Ok so I followed your advise from another video in regards to scenery.ini order, I then removed all previous Orthoxp files I had previously used. I then followed this video verbatim and paused to ensure I was doing EVERYTHING as you did up to and including the Leipzig Germany area as you did. I made sure and counted every tile you used from ZL16-ZL18 to ensure I had it exactly as you did, I am also using the same programs and all the same scenery's as you do. I made sure my load order was correct, however after loading into X-Plane and getting into the airplane it appeared as if I were in a large valley or hole where the airport was, the roads appeared to run off a cliff and house were situated as if the were on the wall of the cliff.. the outskirts over on the actual flat area of land looked fine, the only exception was the immediate area surrounding the airport which was in a very large valley or hole where the ZL-18 was at. What did I do wrong. I sincerely appreciate your help and the videos are great, I just don't understand how yours looked completely flat and mine looked.. well stupid lol
I will add looking back is I only found +50-010.dsf not +51-012 anywhere with in either x-plane itself or zzz.hd_global_scenery4, I am thinking that could be the problem. I am redoing everything again but downloading open scenery, ff_library as well as r2_library.. hopefully I can find that +51-012.dsf

Thank you for your clarification and compliments, Oscar :) And maybe I didn't use the most correct terms in the video, but I'm indeed intending to extract the elevation data from HD Mesh v4. One question: If Ortho4XP's and HD Mesh v4's elevation data are the same, how does the "curvature_tol" in the settings come into play? Does it still modifiy the mesh triangles like in 1.20b and doesn't that result in different elevation data than HD Mesh v4? With version 1.20b of your tool, I played around quite a bit with that setting and the resulting elevation data was different to the one of HD Mesh v4. Also I will pin your comment so everyone will see it on top.

Hi Oscar. So if I'm following correctly, we can skip the section where we use XPTools? Wait for the all-in-one button to do its thing, then extract the overlay?
@@samuelh31992 You can absolutely do that, but I will stick to my XPTools method since I discovered some elevation inconsistencies with the mesh generated by Ortho4XP, e.g. a building at EDDF on a high plateau. To each their own :)
This is awesome...as a first time user of Ortho4XP this is just what I need to understand the entire process including the advanced features. THANK YOU!
Vielen herzlichen Dank. Alles hat genauso funktioniert, wie du es beschrieben hast. Das ist die beste Anleitung ever. Auch für Leute die davon nicht viel Ahnung haben, wirklich sehr verständlich erklärt! Many many thanks. Everything worked the way you described it. That's the best guide ever. Also for people who do not have much idea, really very understandable explained!
This is really great. I've been wanting to build a nice tile around my home field for a long time. The task always seemed so daunting. You're tutorial really makes this pretty simple. Thank you so much!
Danke, Dein english ist nicht schlect mein Herr!! My german is the same. The video has been a great help to me and I would love to see more from you on this subject.
I have HD mesh installed over the Alps, Pyrenees and Scandinavia. I downloaded a tile for Innsbruck. I experimented with and without the tile. And WITH the tile it looks absolutely STUNNING. I read that the two are not compatible. But its= seems as though they are...:)
Absolutely fantastic. The BEST ortho4xp tutorial I have seen. I would never have known that overlays can only be made in the batch build section. Vielen dank! Saved and subbed!
Absolutely outstanding presentation and information. So clear, easy to follow a difficult concept, when presented this way, step by step. Simply the BEST. Thanks again and keep them coming!
Ops I almost forgot my question. When I use WED and remove the flatten command in WED in the custom scenery (EDDF by Areosoft), the runways are great but some terminals are floating for the most part. Any fix or solutions to this? Makes no difference if I manually remove the flatten command in the apt.dat. Thanks so much!
Thank you so much for this in-depth tutorial! You explained every step and process fluently even though English isn't your first language. Most tutorials that I found for Ortho4XP were either v120 or, if it was v130 it wasn't in-depth. You're the reason I have much more beautiful scenery for my favorite areas in X-Plane 11! Thank you once again!
I too am German, Moin, moin. For the sake of other tubers I will continue in English. Thank you for clearing up a major point about 1.30. So many people produce tutorials purely for the sake of posting and hoping to farm clicks, click-baiting. This is wrong and should be banned but sadly it is not. You, Sir have provided good and factual information here. Mr Pilote would be proud. I have been using 1.20b for some time and I agree with you the learning curve is steep. Many do not understand how this program works and therefore have many problems. The first being that they have watched too many of these tutorials made by people who have no idea what they are talking about. Second is provider selection. BI works well, GO2, I can not get to work. I will follow you and hope to learn more. Thank you for your work.
That was a surprise, help from the Meister himself. It is wonderful to learn from the person who created the program. I am excited and waiting for more information on this subject. Thanks to you and Mr. Pilote, I will try to do justice to your work.
Thank you for taking all the time in making and explaining the latest version of t.his software. I have all the tiles for the UK and some of Spain and I never knew that you can use both Google and Bing together BRILLIANT! I came across your videos yesterday whilst searching around and I cam across the Zibo Video and now this which as made me a very happy simmer.
Hi Simulation Channel Deluxe. A thousand thanks for this tutorial. Have watched many tutorials on how to use Ortho4XP but the end result was never successful. Your tutorial has been the best so far and I was able to achieve the results as expected. Just signed up to your channel. looking forward to other great tutorials. Also thanks to the creator of Ortho4XP. Unfortunately, being the creator, he is the one that should be putting out a thorough tutorial rather than criticizing the work of someone that presented a tutorial with successful results.
this works perfectly on my sim thank you. I am not a fan of the discoloration between tiles in some areas but may just have to follow your tutorial on that one as well. Thanks for the video
I had been struggling with so many questions relative to integrating ortho4xp and hd mesh; this is the most lucid and comprehensive description I ever came across. Thank you so much! Unfortunately the exec version of ortho4xp v1.30 does not appear to be available anymore, so I have to explore the harder python environment setup route.
Thanks a lot! For me the O4XP download is still working, are you looking in the correct place? It's in the signature of the first forum post, and the link is called "Windows binary package for v130".
Thanks for this awesome tutorial, I watched the other tutorial on setting 1.30 up and got so lost, Gave up and stuck with the older version.. TILL NOW. excellent Thanks a mint.
Thank you for this quite brilliant tutorial, like other simmers I have wanted to upgrade the Xplane default scenery at my airports but never knew how, until now. I have subscribed to your channel and will watch your tutorials closely. Now all I have to do is implement your directions. Here goes. Many thanks again.
Wow. Thank you so much for making these videos. This and the 2 other videos mentioned really helped me out. Found an old 3 TB drive and used your instructions and used the shortcuts and XPlane is very different for me! Now I just need to do something with shaders and I'd be happy!
It looks amazing but I think I am having a problem. The DSF files keep becoming "absent." I can build the tiles and they look great but I am missing autogen, I have the overlay folder in the orthoxp main folder, then a shortcut into my custom scenery. When I look in that folder, I don't see the proper dsf file. And yes, I did the "build overlay" function as you mention and yes, the "custom_overlay_src" points to X-plane11 global scenery folder. Its really wierd.
Thank you for this tutorial. Love the way you pronounce "available" to me it sounds like 'awailable'... And you are the first person I have seen who has the libraries at the bottom. )
Yeah I'm working on my pronunciation ;) If you would like to see the rest of my scenery_packs.ini file, I have a new tutorial here: ruclips.net/video/sCRkkpcz_H8/видео.html Cheers!
Thanks for such an informative video! I'm just getting started making my own Ortho4XP tiles, and this video helped explain things quite well. Liked and subscribed.
Thank you so much for this excellent video @simulation channel deluxe! Thanks to you and to this video I'm now creating my own ortho-tiles! And because of that I had to buy another hard disk today (8 TB), ha ha! This is so much fun!
xlt demonstration and explanation, tnx u so much, but the process, well, it will be easier & faster to re-paint the Sistine-Chapel in Rome than to work on all the landscape you are flying over ... & I fly 90% of the time low & slow over SoCal ........ LOL
Is the best tutorial I have able to follow to create use the Ortho4xp, good job please if you have any other update please make a video I like your style of tutorial.
Great video! Thanks a million. I'm going to share your video on my discord. Lots of m YT followers ask me all the time about how to get ortho4xp. Love'd the simplicity of your breakdown. Cheers Brother! I Subbed btw!
Thanks for your reply. I'm gonna go through it again as it was pretty late at night when I viewed your video.....I may well take up your offer of help again...
CAN SOMEONE HELP ME!!... around 19:15, I Zip my dsf file...but my dumbass didn't copy it, i just sled it in the xptools. Then i switch it to 7z but it tells me that i cannot extract it. I... what can i do to fix it? (So for the moment i lost my file)
Everybody appears to have done so well with this tutorial,.. I feel a little embarrassed to say that I got lost when I started looking for the tile in the custom scenery folder. I did NOT have a "z" file. I did however have "data" files for the correct tile AND a single .cfg file for the correct tile but nothing was packaged in a z ortho folder. (24:20) in the video. ?

@Simulation Channel Deluxe, I followed this video to the letter. I struggled with the Overlays parts. I have no night road lighting anymore or cars, but I do have trees. I got lost on making the shortcut, I also DO NOT have those AlPilotX's mesh folders that you indicated in the scenery packs .ini. I am using his mesh, and downloaded them, but when you went to make the overlay and copy the dsf file, mine was only 1kb, it was 15,232kb to start but then went to 1kb and never returned. Can you help elaborate after 24:30 in your video, also my zOrtho4XPxxxx folder was created but not in my XP directory, it was in another location. Did my copy and paste mess things up? My XP11 is on an SSD and I want to keep all my ORTHO on another drive entirely. Maybe this is why it messed up.
Sounds like there's a lot messed up lol. I will try to help. 1) Ortho4XP will create the zOrtho4XPxxxx folders in the "Base folder" directory that you setup in the main window. It's absolutely fine when it's on another drive than XP11, I'm also doing it this way. You just have to create shortcuts to these zOrtho4XP folders in your XP11 "Custom Scenery" folder by right-clicking the zOrtho4XPxxxx folder, drag it on the "Custom Scenery" folder and say "Create shortcut here...". You also create a shortcut to the yOrtho4XP_overlays folder the same way. Then you order the entries in the scenery_packs.ini file like I show in the video. 2) If you have downloaded alpilotX's HD Mesh, then you should also have created the zzz_hd_global_scenery4 folder with the Earth nav data in it like he explains on his website. I recommend reading through it again carefully and setting it up correctly. 3) When it's correctly set up you can then choose the zzz_hd_global_scenery4 folder in the settings of Ortho4XP as the "custom_overlay_src" and then you should be able to create overlays without errors. 4) You don't need to copy the dsf files from alpilotX somewhere else when you want to create overlays, that's just for extracting the elevation data and use it for Ortho4XP tiles. Don't worry about that for now and make sure everything I explained before works properly.
Any Idea how to cut tiles and model them so they fit better with the standard scenery? Like fluent boarders or something? I am trying to make some scenery in very rural areas and the image data is often a wild mesh. I would be totally okay with a 10x10nm airport area with same image quality.
Thanks for the clear tutorial! Very helpfull. Based on the explanation a quick question. If you have custom scenery airport from for example aerosoft, i think that don't have to create special zoom levels on airport level i guess? Thanks again!
I'm glad you like it :) If your addon airport already has photoreal imagery included, then you don't need to worry about very high zoomlevels for the airport itself (but maybe for the airport surroundings as addon airports usually only cover a small area).
at 17:35 i do not have the zzzhdglobalscenery folder, i love this tutorial but this is so complicated for me ive been trying to do this for days and i need help.
Sorry to hear that, did you check out my updated tutorial? It should be more easy to understand and maybe it helps you: ruclips.net/video/MdimKEn2C6Q/видео.html
@@davegrainge4579 Thanks again, even though this tutorial is really old by now. I have a more recent one, in case you're interested: ruclips.net/video/MdimKEn2C6Q/видео.html Best regards :)
Hello sir, many thanks for the tutorials, following your video step by step i have successfully create a tiles with HD mesh v4 overlays with different zoom lever, but when i create next tile for another scenery after creating everything exactly someway i couldn't find different zoom level which should be in the orthophoto folder i only found base zoom B16 folder, also after cut paste overlays folder in custom scenery then make sure my ini file are in order, start sim not airport building scenery, please if you can help me on this.
Very goo d series on this .. I wonder where the details for this were made available ? is there a manual ? Also why is it important to replace the clouds ?
Thanks. No, there's no manual included. Regarding the clouds, you can also leave them in or build your tiles using GO2 (Google) with less clouds in the imagery.
hello , thank you for this wonderful tutorial! Can you recommende me some advises to avoid some flat buildings ! I mean the airport is in 3D but some buildings near that are flat! I made lot of attempts but i can’t fix it !danke
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Indeed not every building in X-Plane has a 3D model at the correct spot. Even when using HD overlays or X-EUROPE etc. It can even happen in MSFS. Some addon airports also cover buildings in the close vicinity, so maybe that helps. Cheers
An excellent tutorial, sir! I am new to Ortho4XP, but I have downloaded many of Forkboy2's US Orthophotos. For reasons I don't understand, I noticed that Forkboy2 avoided creating tiles along the US border that included any Canadian territory, such as the tiles covering Syracuse NY and Rochester NY... Would you expect any issues when I try to create these tiles myself using Ortho4XP?
Thanks a lot! I don't know which image source Forkboy uses for his tiles, but other than a slight color shift for the tiles you create afterwards, there won't be any issues i guess. I'm not familiar with his project, but as long as you place the Ortho4XP entries above Forkboy's tiles in the scenery_packs.ini file, everything should work fine.
Hello and thank you for this tutorial. I have a problem. in x plane i have all the files you said to put in x plane main directory but it is missing the zOrtho4xp_(the coordinates) folder. idk why it doesn't work. I did what you said to do. How to solve the problem?
Hi! I tried to generate the river plate photoscenary in argentina/Uruguay shore but Ortho 1.3 doesn't create it because it's so large. Is there a way to create a photoscenary of a large river?? Thanks
Thanks mate! With Ortho4XP 1.30 runways will not be flattened from what I have seen, even when using it together with HD Mesh v4. As long as "Runways follow terrain contours" is checked in the X-Plane options, there should be sloped runways/airports.
Don't know why that happens, I did tiles with 1.30 + HD Mesh v4 and had sloped runways. Ortho4XP 1.20 did turn airports flat, but 1.30 shouldn't do that...
Excellent video and I was with you right up to the point of using XGrinder. After extracting the dsf file, it would not allow me to drag and drop the file into the XGrinder window. I tried simply dropping the dsf file onto the XGrinder program but that didn't work either. I am using version 1.1 of XGrinder and the XPTools_Win_15-3. Any idea why I can't get XGrinder to function as it does for you?
Excellent tutorial. Interesting reading the responses below. However, for newbies or a person like me who has used Ortho4XP for a while a bit confusing. #1) If we have ortho tiles built along with HD Mesh V4 installed what happens when the sim loads. Assuming the scenery.ini file is in the correct order. 2.) Should we leave the HD Mesh Scenery in XP and then use it for the overlays only? Sounds like the extra step is not required ( yes I understand there was some data issues you experienced at EDDF. 3.) Does the Ortho tile override the V4 mesh since Ortho4XP creates the mesh? Thanks for a great video.
Thanks, I will try to answer some of your questions. What I have read is that theoretically the HD Mesh v4 .dsf files can be deleted if you create an Ortho4XP tile for that area, since the mesh in the zOrtho4XP... folder supersedes any other mesh. That's also true if you are not using the HD Mesh v4 elevation data for the tile and use the elevation data that gets built by Ortho4XP. But I never delete the HD Mesh files, mostly as a backup I guess. When the sim loads, it will also read the HD Mesh in the zzz_hd_global_scenery4 folder before loading the photoreal scenery, therefore deleting the HD Mesh .dsf files could improve loading times. And yes I'm using the HD Mesh for the overlays and that step is 100% required, otherwise you won't have autogen on the photoscenery.
I seem to have ripples in some of my runways (KSFO) even after purchasing a PLUGIN for it... What is the cause of the ripples in runways - I see them in several places in the SF BAY AREA.

I liked the "excuse that it is in German" line. Cracked me up.
Oh vielen Dank haha ;)
This is the best tutorial on orthos I have found, thank you!
Just a brilliant explanation! I had lots of "aha" moments... yesterday I went for it I did my first tile ever. Super happy with the end result. Thanks
Just super explanation and even in a second language! Thank you for taking the time to explain this. Very clear and pleasant presentation.
Absolutely fantastic. The BEST ortho4xp tutorial I have seen. I would never have known that overlays can only be made in the batch build section. Vielen dank! Saved and subbed!
Thanks so much mate and happy new year!
Great tutorial. Thanks for making this, it got me up and running in no time.
No question about it. If I want to know how to do something I just listen to his tutorials. Simply the BEST.
Thanks for taking your time to make these very insightful video's. We would be lost without them....
Danke dir für deine sehr, sehr netten Worte :) Und Google funktioniert bei dir nicht?
That was a surprise, help from the Meister himself. It is wonderful to learn from the person who created the program. I am excited and waiting for more information on this subject. Thanks to you and Mr. Pilote, I will try to do justice to your work.
I have to say this is one the best tutorials that I have seen on this subject great job!
I'm glad you find my videos useful :)
All he was doing is correcting one item that was relatively important. I appreciated Oscar clearing that up.
Lucid explanation on how to get started with Ortho4XP. Thanks a lot!
the first sensible 1.30 video. thank you!
Excellent video! I followed the steps and the results were amazing! Thank you for your work!
this works perfectly on my sim thank you. I am not a fan of the discoloration between tiles in some areas but may just have to follow your tutorial on that one as well. Thanks for the video
One of the best explanation I have seen for Ortho4XP and HD Mesh. Great job!
You are the best! Thanks so much for all of your extremely helpful information! 😁👏👏👏🙏🏼👍
Thank you so much for this advanced tut.. Would have been lost without your help.
Superb - best I have seen on explaining Orth4XP.
Amazing that such a man using a second language can instruct with such clarity and precision!
Great tutorial - This helped me make a zoom tile on my fav airport, it looks fantastic in my Cessna 172
Thank you, this was an excellent tutorial
Thank you for the info. I'm thinking of picking up X-plane and using the ortho4xp tool to give it a graphical boost.
Absolutely fantastic tutorial mate, many thanks for this.
Thank you so much for this, finally got it working!
Thanks for such an informative video! I'm just getting started making my own Ortho4XP tiles, and this video helped explain things quite well. Liked and subscribed.
Thanks for the awesome people who made all this possible including Oscar and you for the great tutorial.
This is a really good tutorial, thank you. Just the basics, I can get fancy later.
Thank you very very much for this. Very imformative and explanatory. I particularly liked the custom zoom section. Vielen dank!
Deluxe ist beinahe noch untertrieben. Super Tutorial!!! Selbst mit meinen sparsamen Englishkenntnissen habe ich fast alles verstanden. :-)
geht doch
Eine deutsche Version des Tutorials ist jetzt verfügbar: ruclips.net/video/4cX7nBcpBWQ/видео.html
Thanks for making this very useful tutorial. Didn’t notice you were German until you said it... ;-)
Brilliant video, and interesting stuff from Oscar too. Thank you both.
Thank you for a good, easily understood tutorial. Dankeschone
excellent tutorial! Excited to make my first tile now :)
LOL
Well explained and very useful. Much appreciated.
Excellent primer and worked just as you described. Thanks so much for posting it.
Can't wait to try this, when I get home. Vielen dank
Extremely helpful. Thank You
17:14 Mesh part.
Just a quick hop when I forget this part again xD
So well done, but still seems difficult for me. Great tutorial.
Is the best tutorial I have able to follow to create use the Ortho4xp, good job please if you have any other update please make a video I like your style of tutorial.
Absolutely fantastic! Thank you!
GREAT TUTORIAL! congrats and thank you
Excellent video, thank you Sir! :)
Great explanation man !!! Thank you very much !
Great video! Thanks a million. I'm going to share your video on my discord. Lots of m YT followers ask me all the time about how to get ortho4xp. Love'd the simplicity of your breakdown. Cheers Brother! I Subbed btw!
Thanks a lot bro, I'm glad you liked it :)
Thanks for your reply. I'm gonna go through it again as it was pretty late at night when I viewed your video.....I may well take up your offer of help again...
thanks - great tutorial and really well explained :)
lmao at the end you said "hell yea" at the same time as me in my head xD
great vid, it was clear, helpful, AND ACTUALLY WOKRED :) xD
Very clear and complete ! Dankeschön ! ;-)
WHAT ABOUT EDGES OF SCENERY? Do you blend them out into default textures somehow? Any hint on that?
There's no way to blend the ortho imagery with the default scenery afaik.
Greatest tutorial! Viele Danke!
I believe because of this I don't have any of the information you had in the .ini file. Just what was originally in Xplane.
Was läuft hier falsch? Ich lebe übrigens in der Nähe der deutschen Grenze, Deutsch ist auch fast Muttersprache. Grüße aus Hengelo Niederlande.

great job Thanks for your hard work in making this
@Simulation Channel Deluxe, I followed this video to the letter.
Absolutely fantastic tutorial sir thank you, are you the same gentleman who does the Swift Vatsim tutorials?
Thanks a lot Dave! And no, I didn't do any VATSIM tutorial yet ;)
@Simulation Channel Deluxe you sound just like him lol thank you for taking the time to do the tutorial it's brilliant
@@davegrainge4579 Thanks again, even though this tutorial is really old by now. I have a more recent one, in case you're interested: ruclips.net/video/MdimKEn2C6Q/видео.html Best regards :)
@Simulation Channel Deluxe Thank you. I have watched that and it seems a lot easier to do, I have just joined your channel, now, thank you sir
Thanks a lot i will give it a try anyway by the sort u say in video but, iam considering of Oscar's comment because i have also HD Mesh scenery v4.
Thank you for this superb video!
Hello sir, many thanks for the tutorials, following your video step by step i have successfully create a tiles with HD mesh v4 overlays with different zoom lever, but when i create next tile for another scenery after creating everything exactly someway
i couldn't find different zoom level which should be in the orthophoto folder i only found base zoom B16 folder, also after cut paste overlays folder in custom scenery then make sure my ini file are in order, start sim not airport building scenery,
please if you can help me on this.
Superb turtorial! Danke Dir! ;)
Great tutorial. Thanks.
hello , thank you for this wonderful tutorial!
Cheers

Vielen Dank!
great tutorial ! Thanks
Thanks
Excellent tutorial, how do I make sure runways are not flattened? Thanks
Thanks mate! With Ortho4XP 1.30 runways will not be flattened from what I have seen, even when using it together with HD Mesh v4. As long as "Runways follow terrain contours" is checked in the X-Plane options, there should be sloped runways/airports.
Thank you for you answer. So many convuluted tutorials, this is the best one.
Tried it and airports do turn flat, I am doing something wrong in the settings...
Don't know why that happens, I did tiles with 1.30 + HD Mesh v4 and had sloped runways. Ortho4XP 1.20 did turn airports flat, but 1.30 shouldn't do that...
Ortho4XP_v130.exe does not launch ...
