      Generally all looking slick, my only though from this vid that might benefit yours is the AF drive speed setting - if you put that on slow the camera will still focus on stuff you hold up to it, but if you just move something like the mince packaging past the lens quickly it won’t move focus accidentally. I need to not watch your content while I’m fasting though - v hungry now 😂

      @@dbvares8745 😅 I need to rewatch things, don’t think I’m shopping correctly as when I come to edit or colour grade it’s a mess. Did try slog2 and 3, settings prob wrong and shooting. I’ll check yours again with hlg3 if I have any luck. I want to get a a7iii or something, but first I need to know my way around as it will just be wasted on me

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  3 года назад

      Good luck with the experiments OMT:) Colour grading is an art in itself so I try to keep my dabbling basic as I learn in the background. I’d say the fine profiles are probably the least headache inducing when getting started while still giving more dynamic range than the default profile.
      I’m not a big fan of slog on camera alike the zv1 as they only record 8bit colour depth. Without getting to techy that limits the room to move things like saturation and exposure when you grade and because slog is so flat I find I want a lot of room to adjust it 😂 HLG I like but need to map it into standard colour space, which again makes things a bit techy 😂
      So yeah, keep up the great work on the learning curve and maybe see how the cine profiles treat you:)

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  2 года назад +2

      Hey Rodrigo, great question! I have actually used both HLG2 and HLG3 quite extensively. I think theoretically HLG3 has slightly more colour range but also slightly more noise vs HLG1 and HLG2 is in the middle. From my experience, especially if shooting in the day and keeping iso fairly low, HLG3 is all benefit and no downsides; HLG2 is a nice balance and good if you need to push iso more. Nowadays I’d say I use HLG3 80% of the time and HLG2 the rest:)
      Hope that helps and let me know any further Qs 😁

    Hi Dave, thanks for another great video on the ZV-1 ! I'm currently trying to get the best fps and shutter speed combination for a subject who is moving on an escooter at approx. 30kph. Wondering if you could do another vid on shooting moving objects to get a cinematic effect ? Thanks again ! Mark.

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  3 года назад +1

      Hey Mark, thanks for the kind words and great to hear from you:) So for the ‘cinematic’ effect it’s still the 24fps and 1/50 shutter. You’ll find that gives a lot of motion blur (but if you pay attention to an action movie you’ll realise how much blur there is in movie action scenes!). If you want less blur you can try shooting from further away or with a wider angle; the opposite if you want more.
      If you want smoother motion then higher frame rates with give you that; it won’t be ‘cinematic’ in terms of movie conventions but if it gives you the results you want then that’s the main thing in my view.
      I think shooting at 120fps can be a nice solution in that case: you can then use slow motion to bring things back to 24fps if you wish or playback at 120 for a smoother less motion blurred image that still fits perfectly on a 24fps timeline.
      If you go for other frame rates like 120 try to stick to the 180 degree shutter rule (so 1/250 would be closest at 120fps) as when you slow things down thst will give more the ‘cinematic looking’ motion blur.
      Sorry for the long response but hopefully some of it is helpful-let me know any other Qs and have an awesome weekend 👍

    • @MarksElectricLife
      @MarksElectricLife 3 года назад +1

      @@dbvares8745 Thanks Dave! I think I need to experiment a bit here. I tried 120fps in order to get clear slo-mo but it still looks blurred when played back at 24fps. I'm thinking maybe a faster shutter would help. I can't use the built in HFR because someone needs to be there to trigger and I'm shooting myself on the scooter with no assistant. I will try again, maybe with 1/500 shutter and see what happens. I'm thinking it will have less blurr but be more jittery. Thanks again! Mark.

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  3 года назад

      All sound like very solid thoughts- often it just experiments until you find something that works well enough for your desired result - fingers crossed you find something you like:)
      It’s ages since I used it but my only other thought: could the HFR mode be triggered with the smartphone remote control app? Might be impossible or impractical but throwing it out just in case it works:)

    • @MarksElectricLife

    • @MarksElectricLife
      @MarksElectricLife 3 года назад

      Hi Dave, FYI, I tried to use smartphone to trigger. You can do this but the range is really small so it didn't suit my situation. I increased the shutter to 1/500th and as expected that gave less motion blur but more jitter. I will continue experimenting...

  • @bigbadbyrnes

    I'm enjoying learning from you, DB Vares. I want to make sure I'm understanding something. Lets say I wanted to make the church at 7:53 and the flower at 8:00 to appear less dark and have more definition and colour - could shooting in a particular Picture Profile like HLG3 then grading to increase the exposure of 'shadows' help? I wanted to test my general understanding.
    Many thanks. I appreciate the combo of gags and education. Entertaining Training. Enter-training!

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  3 года назад

      Hey BBB, great to hear from you:) So broadly the answer is yes. Some picture profiles have more dynamic range-the ability to capture a larger range of darker to lightest in a shot before losing information. HLG, slog and cine profiles all have better dynamic range than the default picture profile for instance. And if you wanted to make some parts lighter, like shadows, you would be able to do that in the edit. Depending on how detailed you wanted to go with editing you could do that for the whole image or use masks, droppers etc to just focus on certain bits.
      I’d still say when first getting started try to keep things simple as much as possible; I can do ok colour grading but I prefer not to if I can and to get the look I like in camera where possible.
      But yeah, that’s the long answer; the short one is yep, your example makes sense:)

      Hey SBM, if you want the blurriest background I’d say stick at f1.8 as you suggest. There’s some tips here on getting the maximum amount of bokeh possible: ruclips.net/video/PfDZs2Zkfq0/видео.html
      If you need to manage brightness then you can either go for a faster shutter (might not be a bad thing for magic given some of the quick motions) or you can use your lighting, iso settings and nd filter to adjust exposure while sticking at f1.8 and 1/50.
      There’s some tips on the zv1 in a studio setting here: ruclips.net/video/FjmUIo5Gf-c/видео.html
      And some tips on iso in lower light here:

      Let me know if you have any questions, consider subbing if you enjoyed and have a great day 👍

    you are going so bloody fast it is incomprehensible especially with your side comments about your other videos. You really need to rethink your review style
