Hey man.. I've some issues with those black noise that i've taken the shot during the night scenes using zv1, this is the video if you can watch. ruclips.net/video/-Ip9taqBT_0/видео.html I'm using hlg2 pp10 iso1600. I'm not sure if your settings will help. Hope you can reply I appreciate a lot!
I got my zv1 when came out. I was the first one to buy from the Sony store in Christchurch. I'm a bit spoilt for cameras I have a Sony Mk3 and Sony mk3R and G master lenses up to 600mm and dji pocket 2 and was primarily doing landscape photography, this year I have started a RUclips channel Richard Restorations doing restoration projects and I found the zv-1 the best camera to work with have made riggings to hold my cameras from the ceiling and I just use the zv-1 and as a backup, I bought a second-hand rx100 Mark 3 I run a power supply down the rigging to the cameras so I'm not continuously changing batteries I now come to the realization that I need to be more cinematic with my filming and storytelling and hence I come across your channel I have viewed quite a few of your videos and found them really informative and a person who knows what he's talking about so thank you.
i’ll be honest, i bought a sony zv-1 a few weeks ago and i was looking for some tips, and this was the first channel i discovered that made sense. you really explained things from a “i seriously have never used this camera” point of few and been watching quite a few videos since then of yours. really appreciate it!
hey there, thank you so much for the comment. I am really glad that my videos are helping you. I try to make my videos easy to understand for ppl who don't know much about their cameras. I remember when I first started videography, I would constantly be looking for vids that were for beginners, and I rarely found any. Are they any video topics that you would suggest?
@@thefilmalliance i appreciate the reply! since then comment 2 weeks ago, I've watched so many of your camera videos. so many great tips and helpful things. It's wild how affordable this camera is and the amazing things it can do!
top notch help. My zv1 arrives tomorrow and it means that after 1.5 years of vlogging on my iphone I'm finally leveling up! It's my first proper camera (I'm 45) and your vids have given me so much confidence. gracias, - Shauninparadise
silent watcher here. got the zv1 a few days ago. been watching videos daily about it, and cameras in general, since around a month now. ur among the most helpful channel I've encountered so far. watched a ton of ur videos already and noticed just now, after all the videos i watched, how little subscribers and views u have compared to what I thought. i was totally sure u had at least a couple hundret thousands. keep up the great work, its gonna pay off. wish u the best dude :)
Professor Joe - no one could make this video when the camera came out. You are the best one to make this video. Over the years, I've come to regard you as the foremost authority and fan of the ZV-1. Thanks for your work! Over the nearly two years I've had the camera, I've almost gone out and bought the C100mk2, ZV-E10 and recently, the BMPCC6K, and each time I've decided to pass because none of them offer the compactness, ease of use and feature set. Sure, some of them have better image quality but for what I want to shoot and how I want to shoot, they're all lacking.
DUDE, I have been following you since two years (since I bought the Sony-zv1). I have been learning SO MUCH by watching you videos. When I started I had absolutely no knowledge about camera work whatsoever (still so much to learn). In this time I also started my own RUclips channel about the User Experience of products. Most of the videos have been shot on the zv-1. Last week I uploaded my first video again in quite a while. I am still small but learning with every video. One thing that bugged me a bit was the fact that I could not monitor (e.g.)check for a echo my audio with the zv-1 (no headphone jack). I now have found a way to do that. Basically what I do is that I start the streaming option and stream my image to my Surface Pro to OBS and there listen to my audio. On the Go I use the same feauture but then with my android. Because I gained a bit more confidence (filming-wise) and I just did my first (PAID) filming gig. While filming I switched between my k&F concept tripod and zhiyun crane m2. I do have a ulanzi quick release plate to swich with ease between multiple tripods/gimbals etc. Question: Do you advice to balance the zv-1 with smallrig case and ulanzi wide lens with the Ulanzi quick release plate? Or is there a more convenient plate for that setup. I hate the fact that I cannot take my zv-1 off my gimbal quickly. Thank you so much and keep up the goodwork. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Hey there, Its cool how we are all in the same boat learning as we go. As far as balancing I agree on the annoyance. Yes I was able to balance the cage, wide angle lens and the Arca Swiss adapter but I had to throw the arms all the way out and it is sketchy. Is it possible in your budget to pickup the Crane M2s? The motors are so much stronger
@@thefilmalliance Do you think that the Crane M2s is that much better than the Crane M2? I also "hate" that I cannot connect my camera with the crane m2 (need a iphone because it doesn't support my s21). I am going backpacking soon and I want to shoot a lot of videos. I now have the crane m2 but a doubting about keeping the crane m2 + buying Sony GP-VPT2BT (for quick shots when I don't have the time to balance) OR the crane M2S. What do you think? Also the possibility to connect the M2S to the camera is HUGE for me.
thanks again Prof Joe. I took your advice and got a cage for my ZV-1 added a handle, shotgun mic and light (oh and lotsa batteries) and it made so much difference even with me being a complete beginner. I still have to get to grips with many of the things on your list (next it's zebra and manual focus) - but I must say that everytime I have tried one of your tips I end up saying "oohhh now I get it" - so thanks ever so. One thing I can recommend is that I borrowed a friends Beachtek DXA - this enables you to add more mics and also monitor using headphones. Will be my next purchase!
awesome! thanks for the support! It sounds like you really are taking advantage of all the things that make the ZV-1 Spectacular. I bet when your friends see your setup their like "wo, she's not playing around!" Ill have to look into that Beachtek DXA. Do you know where they sell it? Thank you for telling me about it
I used to have GH5, a wonderful piece of hardware, shot some nice clips on it, but had to sell it, and now I'm looking to buy ZV-1 as a budget replacement. And your videos on all things ZV-1 are pure gold! I especially appreciate that you take time explaining how to get the most cinematic look out of it, which the cam is not even built for, but obviously capable of, to some extent. Thank you!
Thank you so much Matej Zajacik. Im glad to hear that you are getting value out of my videos. How do you like your ZV1 so far? And also, are there any videos that you would suggest that I should make?
New here and absolutely love the content! I've got the sony zv1 for vids, canon rebel t5i for pics, and a mavic 3. I have a passion for cars and am fortunate enough to be surrounded by millions of dollars in supercars every single day of my life. I take my passion for cars and filmography and try to make cool things. Ever since i was a kid, I had this canon camcorder i brought with me everywhere! (still sits on my shelf today, even have the original box) and now almost 15 years later i've finally found the time to come back to my passion of making fun videos with things I love! thanks for helping me learn some cool tricks to up my professionalism!
Three comments: 1. in another video you recommended a power bank. This is so key to everything. I did buy 3 extra batteries and a charger but even with that, they don't last long. The power banks are cheap and insane for power - I even power an iPad mini, which I use as a monitor with the Monitor+ app, at the same time I power the zv-1 itself. 2. I just picked up the Zhiyun smooth Q4 gimbal. Game changer, period! I don't put the zv-1 on that but i do use my iPhone 13 Pro to get some B roll, social shots and other shots while the zv-1 is on the tripod. 3. Lastly, as far as audio is concerned. Because I need to record two channels (a left and a right) into the zv-1 1/8 stereo plug, I needed to pick up a pre-amp. I got the DXA micro pro. I can have my Shure SM-57 (XLR in) mic'd to the guitar amp on one channel and my rode wireless for the guitar player/demonstrator on the other channel. It's got headphone monitoring and level control. So, with the DXA micro pro every video that I've seen on a pre-amp and the zv-1 says to turn the recording levels down on the zv-1 to "1". Otherwise, your suggestions are awesome!
Late to this party, but intro: Been Fuji for most of the last 8 years, with a lot of time doing family pics with the XP series of waterproof cameras, then X100F, XE3, XE4, and XT4 to support my long-standing church AV side gig. Currently kept XE3 and XT4. Also have dabbled in Insta360 One R, RS, X2, and Go 2. Just got into compact Sony with RX100M7 and ZV1. Appreciate the videos. Yours are some of my favorites, even if I'm relatively knowledgeable on the topic. Your delivery and content are on point.
I’ve just started recording myself and loved ones using zv-1 starting this year . It was a lot of investment as a noob who have never filmed before. Im taking baby steps, and you are the one who has been helping me take those steps! Thank you!
Thats awesome. Thank you so much for saying that. I am so glad that I am helping you. Do you have any video suggestions for me that could help you out in any way?
@@thefilmalliance can you please make a video for people who have no clue how a camera even works. I watched all your sony zv1 videos but i am still struggling. Love your channel and it helps so much!
Great, I am so glad that you have gotten value out of my videos. That was such a nice comment, thank you for the encouragement. Good luck on your vlogs.
Greetings from Malaysia! I'm a silent watcher in your channel. Your videos helped me a lot since I bought this camera about 5 months ago. Hope there's more to come!
I love my Sony ZV1 and prefer it over my other cameras. It definitely has way more capabilities than I have knowledge to utilize. I appreciate you diving into the cameras abilities.
( french ) i am starting camera with a beautiful european Cruise in 5 days ( france , italy , spain ) with a sony ZV-1 and VND Filter & 3 batterys . Just to say you thanks for all yours video and i hope you gonna explose in youtube because yours contents make me verry helpfull .
I bought my Sony ZV1 7 months ago, but I'm still getting excited on the new possibilities it creates as I learn more about it. I always wanted a camera where I could shoot travel, interview, street walk etc videos. Big cameras just won't do for me. I can't carry all that weight, or hold the huge gimbal for half an hour. So this camera made my dream of making travel videos a possibility. Thanks for your help on showing how I can make cinematic footage with this. I will have some final tests, and maybe I won't take my BMPCC with me anymore for travel videos. Of course that is better quality, but is it worth the weight difference? I think not. (Think that if you want smooth shots you need a bigger gimbal which also heavy). I'd rather take a DSLR with me (which is lighter than BMPCC anyway) to take really nice photos instead. And leave the videos to ZV1. That's my plan for now. I'm really planning to make a comparison video between BMPCC and Sony ZV-1. Shoot the same documentary with 2 different cams and compare.
Thanks man, for you insight and input. I totally agree about how easy to use and lightweight the ZV1 is. I like your idea about making a comparison vid. Thank you again for the comment.
@@thefilmalliance Thanks for the reply. Do you think it would look more cinematic to zoom all the way in and shoot like that, for it looks more like 35mm. I think I'll test that also.
I love my Sony ZV-1 best investment I made as far as camera last year. Definitely, I have been watching a lot of videos on tips & tricks. You are one of my go to channels.
I knew you were out there! All I had to do was make a video on the ZV-1 to draw you out? Haha Its great to hear from you. Yes, the ZV-1 is quite the camera. Did you also pick up a gimbal?
@@thefilmalliance I ordered the Zhiyun Crane M2S. just waiting on delivery. Other purchase were of course, the rechargeable batteries, ulanzi lens and cage. Also picked up the fake battery thingy for keeping constant power when working in a fixed place with a tripod. The Batteries running out is my only real complaint.
I just had to send my ZV1 in for repair 😭 It was overheating :-( And thanks!! Will try the S cine tone PP as soon as I get it back. I don’t like how the ZV1 “oranges” my skin tone. And I don’t have the Final Cut skills yet to color grade my footage
Hey Deb, Oh wow. Overheating? Sorry to hear you had to send it in. Were you shooting in 4k 24? for long periods of time? Yes the PP is super nice bc it eliminates color grading. Aww thanks for the compliment. Also thanks for chimng in!
I just started watching your videos and just bought this camera to upgrade my content for my car channel since I’ve been using my iPhone for so long so this camera seems like a good upgrade for stills and video. I have the ZV1 complimented with a SmartRig, Neewer Expansion tube with Wide Angle Lens & rode micropro. Great video!
Greetings. Thx for all the great tips. My name is Curtis and I will be retiring in 1 year 11 months and 6 days. I will then set off to hike the Appalachian Trail and plan to vlog using the ZV1. This has been the best channel to learn to use the ZV1, so thanks.
Your videos have been a major resource and the reason I chose the ZV-1. These tips and other videos have encouraged me to get out of AUTO and step up the quality of my RUclips videos. I upload fitness product review videos and will be starting a separate tech channel as I learn more about the production process. Are there any tips for shooting talking head and B roll footage for the fitness content? Any tips and tricks are appreciated. Keep up the great work.
Love my zv-1. I was hesitant thinking there might be a v2 out soon. Glad I just got it, my vlog has improved so much since I got it and still improving.
These are fantastic tips! The focus peaking is useful, I'll be turning that on as I shoot outdoors most of the time. I've got 5 batteries for my ZV-1 now and take a power bank charger out with me to make sure I'm covered on long filming days. I do find it a pain to have to take the camera off either the gimbal or tripod to get into the battery compartment, so I'm looking into a L grip for it. Great video!
Hi Courtney, thanks for taking the time to tell us about your gear and journey. Yes I agree about the battery compartment. My work around is the Arca Swiss mount plate. I find that eliminates the battery compartment issue. Great work on the 5 batteries and power bank. That should covet you for a long time.
OK sir. Hello. I use the ZV-1 in my my work for video conferencing, I'm getting into basic cinematography and lighting and so forth. The Film Alliance is my favorite channel for this genre of material. Great vibes, unbelievable content. Thanks for your amazing work.
I just got my camera on Friday and so glad to find your channel. I’m totally new to videoing and photography, but your tutorial seems easy to follow and you really understand how someone without any knowledge is going through. Thanks for all your hard work . I’m working on my Chocolate and Baking channel now.
That's great I think my picture profile video will help you a lot as well. Because I don't think the camera is great when it comes to shooting straight out of camera.
By far your content is the most clear, concise, and informative tips and tricks video related content I've come across in all of my 220+ RUclips camera related channels I currently follow. I highly recommend your channel to anyone wanting to grow their film-making skills and knowelege. What surprises me, is that you don't have 100k + subscribers by now, you obviously have earned that IMO, and then some! So grateful and appreciative to have found your channel, keep up the great work, I am confident you will be richly rewarded for all your hard work going forward! Bob Carter
Hey Bob, that was super nice to hear and very encouraging. I am so happy the videos are resonating with you. I get fulfillment in my heart when I read comments like yours. Thats why I do it, not for the numbers. I appreciate everything
Awesome tips! I bought my ZV-1 in Japan, I thought there was a language setting.. but unfortunately no. Super difficult to deal with Japanese kanji. Any suggestions? I believe not only me facing this issue. Thank you.
Ok, Joe - I will. I rely on your content a lot for getting the most out of a ZV-1; or more accurately, having the confidence to use it more. You really wring the most out of it. My most important use case is talking head interviews (see my little channel, with a learning curve pretty apparent.) My workhorse is an a6600/Sony E16-55; my beater is a a6100; and I recent went in for an a74 with a Tamron 28-75, but I am still too chicken to run around with it because it's new and was expensive. In hindsight, an a7s3 may have been better for what I do. The a6600 only has one card slot which is a concern for talking head interviews that you only get one opportunity for; I have been running the a74 for hours at 24p/10 bit/ 4-2-2 with no overheating issues, so I am likely to put it into the talking head interview rotation. I really appreciate your content and all of the work you do. And having grown up in SoFla, I also appreciate your scenery A LOT. While I think of you as Dr. ZV-1, your experimentation with other bodies and lenses gives context to the ZV-1 and it's best use. Keep it up; we really are watching out here. Regards.
Silent Watcher here, thanks for the consolidated list! I purchased the ZV-1 last year for dashboard storm chasing, but never fully embraced it. Although you've motivated me again. I gravitate to my A7Riii & A7iii, but I wan to get into b'roll and capture camping/kayak adventures. Thanks for what you do, enjoy your channel!
Hi Wendy, Thank you for coming out of your shell. I know what you mean. I to, don't use the ZV-1 like I should. Its so easy to just pull out and walk out the door. Sometimes I find myself shooting video on my phone and Im like why don't I just go get the ZV-1? I think what your using it for is the perfect way to use it with Broll to your nicer cameras.
Hi Prof. Excellent video as always and a few extra tips to help me get the most from my ZV1. I feel guilty for not using it enough recently but with the Sunnier weather now I will move away from Storyblocks and get out and record some B roll and maybe.... some bits to camera myself.
Hi, I'm Felix and just recently embarked onto the initially very bumpy road of content production. Wanted to start with a tight budget but got really frustrated with the ZV1 because it just did not give me acceptable results so far. But that was mostly due to the bad lighting. The journey of learning about videography starting with literally no previous knowledge (didnt even know what iso, f and shutter do) was harder than I expected. My sole focus is on creating talking head videos. An actual lightsource with a decent softbox just arrived today and I am curious to see if that will finally make my shots look acceptable or if I will continue to regret that I did not do more research before getting the ZV 1 but with a few more days of looking into cameras might have found the Blackmagic 4k instead. Even though the many hurdles were frustrating, it was a lot of fun to learn about so much new stuff like codecs, colormanagement, color correction, picture profiles (which you played an important part in) and all the things that go into getting into the ballpark of the currently high bar that is set for content production.
Yes the soft box will be a game changer. Play around with it especially in different lighting scenarios. You may need to close off other light sources in some situations. I will try to make a video in the near future addressing beginner issues. It’s part of the journey and things I had to work through as well. The black magic is much more complex and harder to use for beginners. I say stick with what you have and be diligent on practicing.
@@thefilmalliance It's a game changer indeed. Going for the cheaper LED-panel by elagato as an interim-solution was causing more frustration than helping, on the other hand that's a good rim-light now. I am curious what you gonna put in that "beginner issues" video. What I wish somebody had told me is something akin to: "if you can, try to create on a blank slate a scenario as ideal as you can with your current budget instead of just fiddling around with what you got, always going with somewhat halfassed interim-solutions". Having chosen the latter caused me so much headache. Had I just tried to emulate best practices in a clean surrounding from the get-go, it would have made the learning curve so much more smooth
oh, one last thing. With PP10 set under (P)rogram. When I occasionally take a photo, they are washed out due to the PP10. Something I can do to have photos and videos profiles set separately? Thanks!
Dude, your videos Rock and have taught me tons. I have owned a zv 1 for about 3 months and thanks to you I am shooting decent video and getting better.
haha, people are not shy anymore in this channel :D!!! zv1 is my main camera, I'd love to have a7s3 kind of lens-adaptable camera, but I suppress the urge to buy one. 1) it's expensive 2) it doesn't add too much value to my shooting skills.
Thank for these tips! I didnt know about most of these features. I recently got the Zv1 and i love it. I recorded a service last weekend praying that the camera was doing its job. The playback footage had me blown away. I am coming from a Canon T5i. I got so used to the workflow that the point n shoot felt akward but now seeing how available and ready it is to record at such a high preformance makes this a keeper. Thanks for building a community around the ZV1
First off, Im so happy you are using this camera for your church service. God bless you! Second, I agree. The footage is unbelievable. I really can't get over how great the quality is. I am learning a ton just by making these videos
just got my zv1 yesterday - your vids have helped me decide on this - and the setup. Slight prob - I don't have the ability to edit 4k yet - so stuck in 1080. Next step is prob to choose a gimbal.
Been watching your channel for quite some time. You have inspired me and many many others. I bought a ZV-1 because of you and I love it, "Zelda" is my daily carry. Thanks for taking us along on your journey. It's awesome to see you grow, succeed and stay the same genuine Joe. Keep it up dude, you're doing great!
Hey man, Thanks for saying that. That really made my night. I'm honored that someone who produces such amazing real estate videos is inspired by me. Thats awesome Zelda is with you through the thick and the thin. Thanks for the words of encouragement and motivation. Im happy we are growing together
I'm about to get the camera , I did a lot of research can't wait to start working with it. My cat is getting attention and I want the world to see how handsome he is my phone camera is not giving him justice.
Bought the ZV-1 last week - your tips helped me to finally make that decision! I guess the next invest for me will be a cage. Keep up your good work! Greetings from Germany.
Hey Peter, I am so glad that I helped you to make a decision. I hope that you like it. Are there any specific videos that you would like to see, that could help you out in any way?
@@thefilmalliance Hi there! Since the ZV-1 is very famous one can find many videos on WHAT it can do - for me as a newby to the world of advanced cameras it woul be helpful to know more about HOW to do things. For example, the menu-systems is still confusing to me. Especially the various options apart from the regular shooting functionalities ... such as "stream" or "control by PC" ... that's confusing. I can, for example, connect the camera via USB and my computer receives a video-signal withouth having turned on the streaming option. Maybe it would be an interesting subject for a new video. Or maybe it's already there and I haven't found it yet?
I was looking for a camera and finally decided to buy the Sony zv1 thanks to your useful videos that makes me feel more confident about it. Muchas gracias por tu tiempo y dedicación en cada vídeo.
Glad that it helped you. I also appreciate you taking the time to comment and let me know. The ZV1 is an amazing little camera. Ive owned one for over 3 years and have used it on a lot of different applications
I have an LGV50 smartphone and a ring light. I really like your black background. I'll try using this very soon. I'll upgrade later on. The main thing is getting that first video out.
@@thefilmallianceit's a hobby for now. My goal is to become a useful story teller. But I expect I will be learning more as I start filming my first video for RUclips. The main thing is to get organised, plan, shoot, edit and publish.
Thing I like most about my ZV-1 is it's size, can take it everywhere I go. Don't have to worry about big camera bag and lens, small fanny pack camera and a few batteries :). Sometimes you just don't wanna take A7III and gimbal, always thinking is someone gonna steal my big if I put it down. Anyway bro keep the great content rolling in ^5s
Dang dude you hit the nail on the head. Yes I agree to everything you said. I'm not so worried someone is going to steal it and it doesn't need a lens cover. Im constantly losing lens covers and then have to dangerously transport my bigger cameras without lens covers until I get home but with the zv-1 its like I can just throw it into my pocket and go. Thanks for your encouragement
Hi mate great video. Have been using the zv-1 for a few months now on a channel we are doing. I’ve only just discovered the active stabilisation mode but I have a real problem when playing back when editing it is extremely shaky near unusable footage. Am I holding or doing something wrong? I invested in a gimbal crane m2 gimbal but can’t seem to get Sony to connect to it. Your help would be much appreciated.
I'm waiting for my ZV-1 to arrive today. I'm getting it to supplement my Canon M50 Mark II. Will be working both with my new Zhiyun Crane M3. I have enjoyed your videos.
@@thefilmalliance You're welcome. My first digital camera was a Panasonic DMZ FC-3 (2004). I got the M50 Mark II recently first, but couldn't resist getting the ZV-1 later. To this point, I've been more into photography instead of video, but look forward to doing video soon. I have been pleasantly surprised at how good the ZV-1 pictures can be.
Dude we NEED more videos about the ZV1 please..You're the best!! I'm brand new and trying to find a video about from beginning to end settings, more video then anything and ending up trying to upload to comp.
Ok I will have to continue to post about the ZV-1. You all clearly love it so lets continue that flow. Thank you so much for those kind words. I am learning a ton just by making these videos. What are you editing on?
Hey, I’m Ryan! Happy to chat… I’m currently using a Sony ZV one and an iPhone 14 promax. I would love to upgrade to an FX 30 but that will have to come in time! You already know this, but I’m a huge fan of your channel
Hi! I just stumbled upon this video, I have 700D canon, an iphone 7S, and a samsung g 8 and I’m trying to get in to cinematography. I am getting better at photography with my 700D but sometimes I’m having an issue of the lack of low light capabilities and since i wanna start making videos that camera can only take 720p and my iphone on the other hand is quite old it’s been having hardware issues. So my solution is get a camera that can do many things in a smaller package while being affordable and this is one of the cameras i have found besides the canon m50, m6 mk.II, sony a 6400, 6600, and zv-e10(which are really hard to catch as they are always out of stock and the e10 being discontinued). I’d love to hear your thoughts! Good video too!
Hey Ben, Thats awesome. Thanks for letting me know. Are you a silent watcher or upperclassmen? Also what are you using the ZV-1 for? Vlogs? RUclips? Hobby?
@@thefilmalliance Just a silent watcher! I picked up the ZV-1 because I was interested in trying to pick up video editing for a potential future RUclips channel (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.).
I've been using my ZV1 for the videos in my RUclips videos. The only downside is the battery, lens, and no audio monitoring port. But I'd still use it rather than changing it to zve10
Hi! I am planning on buying ZV-1 as second hand, are there any tips you can share to check the unit? i hope you do a content about that. Thank you! your videos are insightful.
Thank you for your videos, I was in need of a small camera to have with me all the time, in case that perfect shot came along. I use a 5DMkIII and I love it, but it's not the most discreet thing to carry around, especially for urban shots. Your videos convinced me that the ZV1 was my perfect match, and so far I love it. I need to go back to your whole ZV1 series because I watched most of them before having it, so now I can apply everything 😁 Thanks again, and thanks for the "say hi" prompt, I obviously needed it 😀 Alexandra
Hi Alexandra, That is so awesome. Yes, you can use this little camera that is small and discreet and get some amazing video and pictures. One of my favorite things about it is it doesn't need a lens cover like my other bigger and bulkier cameras. Thanks for the "hi" and update on your journey. Don't be a stranger!
Awesome video! I’m wanting to use my Sony ZV1 or even my A7r3 for video, instead of relying on my easy go to IPhone. I’m wondering what are the best settings for recording video outdoors on a bright sunny day. I make simple hiking videos but I want to make better quality videos this year! I finally tried a gimbal for the first time yesterday, oh wow! What a difference it makes! 😃😃
Thats great. What gimbal did you get? Also to answer your question, it all depends on what you are shooting. Are you a vlogger or just trying to get some cinematic-type Broll?
Hey D'Vaughn, Welcome and thanks for coming out of your shell. Everybody here loves the ZV-1 and we are all learning it as well. What do you use it for? Vlog? RUclips?
@@natural2 Yes! Im so happy you have an active plan and are pushing forward. I think a lot of people get this camera and then lose interest. Remember how great of a little camera you have. Don't let it go to waste. Post the videos you take here so we can check them out.
What is the best settings when you are on the road and don't have time to set up all kinds of things. You're probably missing your only chance to shoot something if you have to go through the setting. It should be point to shoot?
Hi. About ready to start. Would like "Set it and Forget It" Settings for talking face vlog. How far away from face but would like a nice border on both side of my head and something like you at time stamp 8:55. Maybe a template to show or if you have a mannequin for demo - might be an idea. Also, would like to add a second angle so should I get another zv1 or get one of the Sony's. Do not want to move cameras around so they are always ready to shoot. Time best spent writing or shooting, not moving or changing camera or settings. I watch ton of vids and yours seem to be the most real life. Also, you look like an innovator. I am going to help creators / inventors get patents, trademarks and believe that inventors are good creators. No Poach Coach!
Hey Trentish, thank you for that. Yes make sure you have a full battery!

I just purchased the zv1 along my xt4 and xs10. I can not find how to turn on the 24 fps option even after I set it to slog2. I ll be watching your other videos and have subscribed to your channel
Silent watcher. Fine. So I have an FX3 which is my current A-cam for this channel, after going through a couple APS-C cams and even a side chick deal with the Panasonic GH line. I have been considering retracing my steps back to a ZV1, ZV-E10 or whatever new crop body Sony finally releases to go with those three new lenses. Not to replace the FX, but just to have a low impact inconspicuous filming option for urban environments. An RS2 flying an FX3 and a Rode SVMX tends to get too many looks.
I bought the ZV-1 for a second camera. I wanted to buy the ZV E-10 with the Sigma Trio of lenses for my main camera but the ZV E-10 is nowhere to be found. I will probably go a bit higher and get the Panasonic Lumix S5. Have you made a video of how to make the ZV-1 footage close to footage shot with a more costly camera?
Really awesome channel and very helpful. I started with a Canon M5 with a few different lenses, then went with the ZV-1. Love that camera!. I also got a full frame A7C for events and what not. Also a great camera. Thank you for all you do. I have been watching your channel since you started with the ZV-1 videos as I got this camera when it came out. To see where you started to where you are is awesome! Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much. I am learning a ton just by making these videos with you guys learning right alongside me. Thank you for the support. Quick question... What video of mine has brought you the most value?
Thanks for the video. Just a comment on using the ZV1 with a gimbal. I find it a real pain to balance my gimbal with the ZV1 as the lens retracts if you are not fast enough and completely throws off the balancing. Any tips would be appreciated.
Great stuff! You seem to be a bit of a perfectionist and I can't help wondering how many takes you need to film your 100mph talking head sequences without a single mis-step, stumble or "err…"? However you achieve it, you pack a huge amount of useful and coherent information into a short, concentrated video and that's just what I need. Thank you.
Awesome videos, i’ve been on the fence about picking up a zv-1 for my tutorial videos i have on my current channel but wanted to make sure i’d be able to use it for some upcoming moto camping vlogs i’ll be putting together. how is the zv-1 with motion blur? i looked for a video on the topic but haven’t seen anything. cheers!
I've watched several of your great videos, but haven't been able to find how to set my ZV1 such that the video stays focused on the background, NOT on me as I move around. I make videos to demonstrate painting techniques for my classes at the Angel Academy of Art, Florence, but am frustrated because the camera doesn't stay focused on the painting, but focuses on my hand while I'm painting. Can you help?
I recently purchased the ZV 1, this channel helped me a lot! This tiny camera is awesome. Is there a way to get good night videos in low light situations or is this beyond the scope of the camera?
I'm wondering if you are talking about the ZV-1 Mark I Or Mark II? @thefilmalliance The reason I say that is the stabilization is pretty different in both cameras. Its actually a lot better in the Mark I due the the lens and the body both having it and in the Mark II its only the body that has the stabilization. Also I am pretty sure the Mark I has a faster lens than the Mark II. (Let me know if i'm wrong please)
Hello I'm hearing impaired! In fact I'm 100% deaf BUT I hear with a cochlear implant. So I hear pretty good for a deaf guy. Testing with my ZV-1 before our first trip on playback the sound coming out of the camera is very very low it's adjusted all the way up but it is very very low how does it sound for irregular hearing people?
Do you have the ZV-1? If you would like to see more videos like this one like and subscribe!
Yes, please more content on Sony ZV-1!
Hey man.. I've some issues with those black noise that i've taken the shot during the night scenes using zv1, this is the video if you can watch. ruclips.net/video/-Ip9taqBT_0/видео.html
I'm using hlg2 pp10 iso1600. I'm not sure if your settings will help. Hope you can reply I appreciate a lot!
I love your content sir, i just bought a zv1 on eBay because of you. Cant wait to start creating with it!
Just bought one, still on its way, your videos sold me on it, pretty sure it fits my needs :)
We need the setting with you shoot this video ?
That was nice and happy to help another brother out
i’ll be honest, i bought a sony zv-1 a few weeks ago and i was looking for some tips, and this was the first channel i discovered that made sense. you really explained things from a “i seriously have never used this camera” point of few and been watching quite a few videos since then of yours. really appreciate it!
hey there, thank you so much for the comment.
Thank you, Im happy your getting value from these videos Whats your favorite video of mine so far?
silent watcher here. got the zv1 a few days ago. been watching videos daily about it, and cameras in general, since around a month now. ur among the most helpful channel I've encountered so far. watched a ton of ur videos already and noticed just now, after all the videos i watched, how little subscribers and views u have compared to what I thought. i was totally sure u had at least a couple hundret thousands. keep up the great work, its gonna pay off. wish u the best dude :)
I need to frame this comment. That was so kind of you
Got my ZV1 and now I am binge watching your videos 😄
haha thanks for the support!
Thank you for all of the feedback. I really appreciate it. I will def use those tips:)
Thanks David for your words of encouragement. I honestly feel like we are a family here.
You are the best man, Got a ZV-1 like a year ago and you make the best videos for them. Been a big help making some of our vlogs so far.
Hi Zafree, I knew you were out there somewhere. Welcome and thanks for taking the time to say hi. Yes there will be ore to come. Don't be a stranger!
I love my Sony ZV1 and prefer it over my other cameras. It definitely has way more capabilities than I have knowledge to utilize. I appreciate you diving into the cameras abilities.
Thanks that's great, yes I agree. I just wish it had more battery life! Did you get the cage for it?
@@thefilmalliance for my current needs I find I don't really need it or would utilize it so I haven't as of yet.
@@thefilmalliance
Get the mock battery for it. You'll be able to plug it in for unlimited power, and connect it to a USB powerbank too.
Dang, that was super nice. Thanks for saying that. Yes ZV-1 from last year. Are you going to pick up the A7IV?
@@thefilmalliance I don’t have the funds for that.

Glad you like them! Thats very kind of you
Silent no more! I went all in on a ZV1 last year thanks to your videos. Love it!
Ok I hear ya, Yes that was my complaint as well. Its like Sony said lets give them an almost perfect camera. Enjoy your setup!
I just had to send my ZV1 in for repair 😭 It was overheating :-(
And thanks!!
Best of luck! thanks for the support!
Just got the Sony zv-1 and already uploaded a few vlogs in the past week or so thanks to your tips.
That's awesome! do you have the zve10?
Your videos have been a major resource and the reason I chose the ZV-1.
These tips and other videos have encouraged me to get out of AUTO and step up the quality of my RUclips videos.
I upload fitness product review videos and will be starting a separate tech channel as I learn more about the production process.
Are there any tips for shooting talking head and B roll footage for the fitness content? Any tips and tricks are appreciated.

Love my zv-1. I was hesitant thinking there might be a v2 out soon. Glad I just got it, my vlog has improved so much since I got it and still improving.
I'm new to video-making, especially with Sony ZV1, and your videos are really helpful and informative... thank you from Indonesia!
Hey there, thank you so much that is so nice of you. Good luck on your journey:)
Bob Carter

Hey Rico, yes s-cinetone haha. I love that profile. It’s so good with minimal color grading
I just bought this camera and thank you for making it easy for me to decide.

Thanks!
Another video for the bookmarks! Great work Joe!
Thanks again!
Hi! Do you have a video on transferring your zv1 footage and pictures from the camera to a windows PC?
No I don't I am sorry. I use Apple. Are you running into problems?

SO happy I could help out. What do you use it for? vlogging? RUclips? Professional work? Thanks for the words of encouragement.
I have Sony ZV-1 because of you fantastic video. I’m studying your video tips by tips. Excellent work thank you! I’m from Italy.
Absolutely no idea what I’m doing ! I’m enjoying your channel 👏👏👏👏
Thanks man, that is very encouraging. What is your favorite camera so far?
I got my ZV-1 today thanks to you.. Can't wait to use it for my future videos productions...
The main thing is getting that first video out.
thanks for sharing! Do you shoot professionally or as a hobby?
@@thefilmallianceit's a hobby for now. My goal is to become a useful story teller. But I expect I will be learning more as I start filming my first video for RUclips. The main thing is to get organised, plan, shoot, edit and publish.
@@jasonosmondfernandes8525 yes Jason, me too. I would love to make a movie someday. Something with meaning
@@thefilmalliance looking at where you are now, you're on your journey to something amazing.
I am hopefully buying this camera soon. Just waiting for the sales. I currently own a iPhone 11 Pro Max and that’s it. Really a beginner.
This is so helpful! Still building my confidence shooting video! Thanks for all your work with this camera!
my pleasure! thanks for the support!
Just bought a brand new ZV-1 through Greentoe at a price lower than the lowest in Amazon history. Time to try these 20 tips.
You have sparked our interest. Please tell us the amount and how you like Greentoe?
Great video. I watch these videos, because otherwise I would always have to film in auto mode. Thanks for all the tips.
Haha that's awesome. Yes please tryout manual until you are locked in!
So glad I found this channel.
Tip 20 about Gimbal ... Does the sony vlog grip (GP-VPT2BT) also considered a gimbal?
I'm waiting for my ZV-1 to arrive today. I'm getting it to supplement my Canon M50 Mark II. Will be working both with my new Zhiyun Crane M3. I have enjoyed your videos.
Thank you for the comment. Is the ZV1 your first camera?
Hey Ryan, great to hear from you again. Thanks for all the support:) How do you like your Zv1?
This is what I need, just reecnty bought ZV 1
Hey there, that's great. Have you bought more batteries?
You were the reason I picked up a ZV-1! Thanks for all of the content that you do!
Also 1 minute gang!
Haha that's great. Yes, just go out there and start using it!!
Great tips! We’ve been M.I.A. Lately but we hope all is well Joe.
I've been using my ZV1 for the videos in my RUclips videos. The only downside is the battery, lens, and no audio monitoring port. But I'd still use it rather than changing it to zve10
Hey there, yes I agree those are downsides but there are so many upsides its hard for me to complain. haha
@@thefilmalliance haha. Indeed. Keep up the good work! Love your content
I need to go back to your whole ZV1 series because I watched most of them before having it, so now I can apply everything 😁 Thanks again, and thanks for the "say hi" prompt, I obviously needed it 😀
Alexandra
Hi Alexandra, That is so awesome. Yes, you can use this little camera that is small and discreet and get some amazing video and pictures. One of my favorite things about it is it doesn't need a lens cover like my other bigger and bulkier cameras. Thanks for the "hi" and update on your journey. Don't be a stranger!
Professor Joe! HOLY SMOKES!! I just learned so much info from you! Thank you so much!!! Keep the Sony ZV-1 videos coming please!
Absolutely. Glad that they are helpful. I know that you have had the Zv1 for 2 years but how long have you been filmmaking for?
Ulanz wide-lens is a must-to-have for zv1, but I hate it doesn't balance well in Zhiyun m2... As a vlogger, I also see m2 is too cumbersome to use
Hey I’m D’Vaughn! I’m from Ohio and this channel helped me learn how to use my Sony zv-1
Hey D'Vaughn, Welcome and thanks for coming out of your shell. Everybody here loves the ZV-1 and we are all learning it as well. What do you use it for? Vlog? RUclips?
@@thefilmalliance I’m gonna do some RUclips talking head videos about Cardi B. Also tutorials for my online courses
@@natural2 Yes! Im so happy you have an active plan and are pushing forward. I think a lot of people get this camera and then lose interest. Remember how great of a little camera you have. Don't let it go to waste. Post the videos you take here so we can check them out.
@@thefilmalliance you have done a great job highlighting all of the features. Your videos made my creative process easier
SO happy to hear that. Thank you
What is the best settings when you are on the road and don't have time to set up all kinds of things.
Another brilliant video Joe- going to watch again tomorrow with my ZV1 in hand to set up properly
Thanks for the comment. I appreciate your insight.
Hi, my camera changes from light to dark during recording! It’s so annoying! 😢 love your videos by the way
Excellent content. Very timely as I just bought a used ZV1. Following up on your other videos as well. Liked and Subscribed!
thanks! Welcome aboard! do you have a zve10?
@@thefilmalliance No, just the ZV1. Your other videos have been very helpful in setting this one up.
This is Sazeeb from Dhaka, Bangladesh and I love your presentation and your channel
Thank you.
Thank you for that. That was very kind of you. I am glad that you are getting value from my videos.
Thank you for the video, will the camera focus on two people in the frame at the same time?
Thank you Joe for these amazing tips! Keep the zv1 content please!
Absolutely:)Are there any specific videos that you would like to see anytime soon?
I recently purchased the ZV 1, this channel helped me a lot! This tiny camera is awesome. Is there a way to get good night videos in low light situations or is this beyond the scope of the camera?
I'm wondering if you are talking about the ZV-1 Mark I Or Mark II? @thefilmalliance
The reason I say that is the stabilization is pretty different in both cameras.
