Does anyone know how to turn off the zooming in sound
You can’t. It’s the motor in the camera
@@VicBarry hey Vic what do I do when I press the record button and it just automatically zooms in ALOT 😅😅
Killing it. Can't find anything else for compact hybrid usage. About €500 used now with cage, batteries, wide angle. I'd take the pocket 3 if I didn't need the 24-70mm photo option - but I do.
Excellent coverage on your channel, thanks, on my way through all of it now. Good man.
The setup was overwhelming for me as a new camera user. You're walk-through is the most detailed and easiest to understand I have seen after watching several other videos first. Thank you your channel is very helpful.
Hey Brett, wow. That’s amazing feedback to get. Thanks for that. Really appreciated. 🔥🙏

Super helpful video, Vic. Thanks very much! After seeing so much of your impressive footage from the ZV-1, I completely trust your guidance on the video (and picture) settings. Sending thanks and well wishes from San Diego, California. 🇮🇪
Thank you so much. That means a lot. Really appreciate the kind words. Glad the video has helped you.
Do you have videos where you explain in detail and for beginners what frames per second, resolution, shutter speed and all those variables mean?
I may get the Sony ZV-1 but all these topics are new to me and a bit overwhelming trying to learn how to use the camera plus understanding the definitions at the same time. Thanks in advance.
You're video is the most detailed and easiest to understand, thank you very much.

Glad you found it useful Nicky
Wow - thank you! I've watched dozens of reviews and videos about the ZV-1 and almost all are just spouting the same basic fluff and don't give much of value. Found this camera at hugely reduced price for new year and I like to research DEEP before a purchase so there aren't surprises...
Instant sub from me! Keep up the good work. :)
Glad you enjoyed it! And thanks so much for the kind words AND subbing! Really appreciate it!
Loved this video, I’ve been having this camera for like 6 months and did not know how to use it at all

@@VicBarry hi. Can you tell me what setting I should look at if brightness is an issue? If you watch my Vulcan model build part 10 you’ll see it’s a little dark? I have now used the zebra function following your advice but is there something else?
Love your videos…. One thing. In video, what picture profile do think is best?
On the ZV-1, HLG2 is decent enough if you're doing some color grading, but to be honest, unless you're planning on doing that, then no picture profile looks pretty great!
Really helpful video - thank you
You're welcome Kris! How's the camera going?
Just got mine in the mail today. So psyched to dive in tomorrow!
Awesome stuff. What’s the plan with the new camera?

Dear Vic Barry, how do I change autofocus/re-autofocus while I’m shooting video on the Sony ZV-1? Also, what programs do you use for post-processing video? Could you do a hands-on video on that?
Great video! I love how you say "thirty" ☺️👊🏽
@Sam Ib you can turn down the playback speed to 50% if your slow 😉
I'm just messing you lol

Awesome stuff Darin. Have fun
@@VicBarry thank you very much buddy also I subscribed to your channel
Good morning. Thank you for your videos, they are very entertaining and with good information. I have a question about the Sony ZV1: Is it normal for the noise of the AF motor to sneak into the audio of the videos? I changed the first unit that came to me for that reason, and the same thing happens to me with the replacement. Thank you so much!
Hey Marino, you’re welcome 🙏 Yes. It’s normal to hear the zoom motor but not the af. Unless I’m losing my hearing I haven’t heard the AF motor in any video.
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Thank you for this! I'm finally going from video on my phone to a camera haha! What tripod do you use that can do overhead shots as well as straight on?
Hey Jessica. Currently I’m using a light stand with a ball head.
Dear @Vic Barry, thanks a lot about tutorial. Can you tell how can I mirror the lcd panel to my computer screen ??
Thank you good sir
thank you extremely helpful
No probs. Glad it helped 🔥
Thank you for this video, we appreciate it, just got one.
Awesome. How are you finding it?
Vic Barry it looks better, than no set up at all, I not good on this and I watched Your video step by step and it helped lots. Thanks 🤗
Maddy Lane's great stuff. There’s a “few” 😂 Sony ZV1 videos on my channel that you might find useful. Let me know if you get stuck
Thanks!! I have a question, I've been trying to figure out how to mount my ZV1 on my 32inch monitor. You know how the C922 logitech web cam just balances itself on any monitor, if there was a similar way to do that with the ZV1, would be great! Any thoughts on mounting without a tripod directly on the monitor. I have a 32 inch Benq Monitor 3280U. Any advise would be great!
Thank you so much!
No worries Nate. Thanks for dropping by 🙏
Great video chap
Thanks Daniel. Glad you found it useful.
Helpful video and awesome shirt.

Mister can you make a video on the best settings for webcam use?
Great tutorial
Thanks 🙏
Dear Vic, a big big THANK YOU for this video. I was struggling with these settings a lot, and the way you explained them has just made things clear. I'm so happy your video popped in my recommendations. I will no longer be looking at my ZV1 with that "anticipating confusion" look - the way I always looked at it before.
Awesome stuff. So happy this helped you out
Fantastic, thanks!
Thanks Danny 🙏
This is great! Do you have a way to fix if your steady shot under movie 3 says disabled? I'm trying to find a way to change it, but I can't.
hey, did you find a solution?
I learned some things. Thanks for posting. 👍🏾
Sweet. That’s great to hear. Anything else you’d like to see about the ZV-1?
Vic Barry Yes can I see some sample photos? I don’t want to carry my a7iii with me all the time and I'd like to see if this camera can double as an every day cam for food, flowers, street photography and casual portraits.
Absolutely. That video will be coming soon. However Lightroom hasn’t been updated to take the raw files from the ZV1 yet 😞
Vic Barry Seriously? That's kind of surprising. Hopefully soon. I appreciate you sir!
Yep. 🙏🙌
1:11 @FPS (30/60 fps) = You'll have to switch to NTSC to see those settings, if you have PAL selected (Europe), you'll only get 25p @4K
Hwllo, Vic! Can you please tell me about the aspect settings with 23.5:1. Does this mean that the camera will shoot with black stripes like an anamorphic lens?
This was great. Thank you. Do you have any idea why under my 4K record settings I only have two possibilities 25p 100M and 25p 60M ? Yiou have 4 options shown in the video.
Hi Mark, that's the only options you have in 4K. For the other speeds like 120P etc. you have to be in Full HD mode
Thank you for the video. It made it easy for me to understand the camera setting, and learn more about my camera. Much appreciation ! P.s of you read this comment, can you help me with turning on the stead shooting, it’s dimmed 😌
Hey Vic, love your advices on Sony ZV 1. I use this camera for travel vlogging while walking around the places with different surroundings, sunlight, clods, foggy, snow etc. what pictures profile should I be using in order to use and enhance colors using LUTs in post? I am confused about SLOG and HLG3. Or should I just not use any picture profile?
Thanks 🙏
Hey Archie, awesome stuff. To be honest slog3 isn’t really suited to the ZV1 as it’s 8 but color. I’ve found HLG2 is decent enough. Again you can’t push it a tonne but you can definitely work with it.
@@VicBarry great, thanks. Is it suitable to set and forget? I am not into color grading and color correcting, just want to shoot and don’t do any color grading, or use a LUT. Do you think I can use HLG?
Thank you!!
Thank you for watching 🙏
Thank You!
You re welcome
Hey Vic, how can I remove the settings of my camera zooming in once I press record? 😊
I'm a geriatric, neophyte videographer, so I really appreciated your presentation... thank you! It was very helpful!
I'm in the process of establishing a channel, and want good quality video. In addition to the ZV-1 for close-ups, I have also decided to purchase the Sony A7siii. Am I making good choices? (I need two cameras because I will often use split screen images.)
Yes. Great choices. Awesome combo. Enjoy
With the sony A7C there is low screen dimming in 4k mode ?. Thank you
Hey man, great videos. You've been a serious help.
You mentioned briefly setting up a proxy in premiere. Been looking for a decent tutorial on it for a while, everything I find just doesn't quite cut it.

Hi Vic, kindly guide how to pause while recording in zv1, and then resume, thanks
Hey. You can’t pause. It’s either start recording or stop recording.
@@VicBarry I wish it was possible, but thanks a lot for the confirmation Vic:)
I had a couple questions since you seem so knowledgable about this camera. I have the Rode wireless go and when I plug it in I am not getting sound from my mic. Also, I was thinking about getting the Pico Mic which is Bluetooth but I also use the Vlog Handle which is also Bluetooth so I was wondering would I be able to use the Bluetooth microphone while also using the Bluetooth vlogging handle?
Hey there, a direct Bluetooth mic should work if you’re recording to a phone but there is no Bluetooth recording option within the camera. As for the Rose, adjust the audio levels to max in the camera and the Rode to see where the problem lies. Let me know how it works out
Can I use this setting for obs ? Or I have to do something different.
Very helpful. Thanks.
Hey Mark, thank you. Is there anything else you’d like to see about the ZV1 ?
@@VicBarry I'm a recently retired old person just starting out with a RUclips channel. I don't have any tattoos, so I'll never hit the big time. In the meantime, I'm having fun just messing around. i used these setting for my camera.
Hey Vic - this video was really helpful. You’re great at explaining things! I have a big question about this camera (we’ll, it’s big and important for me 🤷🏻♀️) - sometimes, but not always I have a little icon in the top left corner of a imported clip (into iMovie) that looks like a sun in a grey square. When it’s recorded in this setting, I can’t seem to speed up a clip without it being horribly choppy and fragmented looking. I’m not sure what this is, how I’m doing it, or how to change it AND I’ve watched so many Sony zv1 tutorials to try and see someone talk about this, but all to no avail!
Do you have any idea about this and can help me out? Thank you!
(It seems to import the clip in turtle mode and has a fancy feature of speeding up and slowing down a clip all on its own, and trying to change it out of that setting is near impossible for me). So confused. Is it a shutter priority thing? 🤔😩
Hi there. What mode are you recording the video in on the ZV1 - and is it 4k
@@VicBarry no. In 1080p and it was in 120p 60M (whatever that means! Haha). I had it on shutter priority and 1/50. I was having problems before where I would want to custom speed up a clip depending on what I was doing, and the clip was super choppy. So I asked someone about it, and he said to do the 1/50 setting with shutter priority. I’m mostly filming me doing a project, not vlogging stuff so much, so I wanted it to be flexible and didn’t think I needed 4K.
Maybe I should just reset the whole camera back to the original settings?
But it’s strange. I’ve tried changing the settings to auto program, from the 120p 100M to 60p 50M, and it still has that setting on there. I have NO idea how it got there. It brings the clip down into the turtle mode with little movie clip icons in the middle of the clip. Do you even know what I’m talking about? Ever seen it before? It’s like a little feature setting and of left as is, it’s a slow motion clip but the last section it ramps back up to normal speed.
Thank you for getting back to me!
hello vic ! question i want to shoot night videos or even day at 1080p which 1080p is the best setup to get great video quality?
Hey there 👋 for the ZV1 keep the aperture at 1.8 and the shutter speed at 1/50 and mess around with the ISO to get the best image. High iso will bring more noise to the image but see what looks good for you 👍
Great video, very useful! Where on earth is the setting to enable the on screen horizontal tilt meter you have??? Shown behind the grid at 8:31
Hey Joe, if you keep pressing Display. It’s normally the up button on the dial. Keep pressing that until it shows up. If you can’t find it let me know
@@VicBarry That did the trick. I'm a Sony rookie!
Awesome stuff Joe. Enjoy the cam 🙏💪👍
Hi Vic
Really top video. I have a zv-1 and don't get the option to film in 30fps...it just doesn't appear. I read something about pal and NTSC but not entirely sure. Also, i'm sure when i got the camera i was able to set it to 30fps. Just wondered if you have any ideas as in your video, you clearly have that option.
Hey there, to get the different frame rates you do need to switch the region from PAL To NTSC ;)
Really appreciate this, Vic. Just bought my ZV1 - a Mooney from Singapore. Just subscribed.
Hey Chris, awesome. Thank you so much. Really appreciate the sub 🙏
Thanks Vic, for the setting content. I took this to a month long vacation to Asia, going from Singapore, Bali, Thailand, and Vietnam. This was my main vlogging camera. Recording in 1080P, with Active Stabilization on. Now looking back at my footages I notice, majority of my footages are very shaky and jittery. When I'm walking the footages are so shaky that it's unusable. Even when I am holding it still, and talking to the camera there's shakiness, and jittery. Am I doing something wrong in the setting?
Hey 👋 I’d hazard a guess it’s because it’s 1080p. Shooting in 4k allows the stabilization to crop in slightly and help with the shot
Thanks Vic. I'm new to vlogging, plus I was going for 30 days, so I thought 1080 would be easier for me and help with external storage space. I'll try to see if 4K is any different. Thanks again.
Hello, I am a newbie to this video world....do you think this is the best camera for someone like me or should I look into another type of camera???? Please HELP...🙏🙏 Thank You!!
Thank you, perfect for a novice like me!
Awesome. Thank you. Practice makes perfect. How are you liking the ZV1 so far?
Vic, my ZV-1 keeps has gone into "Standby mode" after I was able to successfully do live-streaming at one point. Can you make a suggestion? I suspect I'm missing something really basic! I have the Auto Temp Off set to High. and the battery is fully charged and charging with the USB cable I have.
Vic, thanks this was great. Looks like you are set to NTSC. And yet you are in Ireland. Is there a reason you choose this over PAL? Thanks.
Hey John, thank you. Yeah. I use NTSC because it offers more frame rates
@@VicBarry Thanks! Good to know.
This is wonderful tech education
Thank you. Hope you learned something useful 👍
Hi Vic, I know this is an old video but a great tutorial. I purchased the ZV1 about 4 months ago. I’d a problem with the battery this week & now the shutter keeps opening & closing when I turn the camera on. Any idea why this is happening & how I might fix it? Thanks, Maeve
Impossible to say really Maeve. What’s the problem you had with battery? Best bet though is talk to Sony, especially if it’s only 4 months old
The battery exhausted. I managed to charge it back but it died again after a 30 minute video & I had it plugged in to charge while filming. It seemed to not take the charge again & then the shutter problem started. I purchased a new battery & tried that today but the problem is still there. Really appreciate you replying. Thanks. I’ll contact Sony.
Hi Barry, love your videos they're very helpful. May i ask, what quality would you shoot in, to upload videos to social media such as tiktok/instagram reels? I am not sure if i were to film using my sony and upload that it would say the file is too big.
Hey Raquel, I normally shoot in 4k but if you’re editing stuff for social etc the. You can make it whatever size and render at whatever you like in the editing software. Does this make sense?
@@VicBarry thanks for replying! That’s great, I thought shooting in 4k would be too big of a file to upload to tiktok/Instagram reel or too big to send to your phone. So you would film in 4k, export it as a different size? (What size would be good for social media?😭) send it to your iPhone and edit as normal in any iPhone editing app?
No worries. Yeah. Totally. Might be worth checking with each platform to see what their size AND bitrate limits are. For example Twitter only allows a maximum of 20-25 mb/s bit rate for video.
So if I’m using the ZV1 for social stuff I’ll shoot it as normal. Edited in premiere pro and then send the final video to my phone and just upload from there. Or whatever works
@@VicBarry I see, so to do whatever edit you want in final cut as 4k, then export it as whatever birate the social media app allows. Very helpful! Thank you😊
💯 exactly. Awesome stuff.
Is there a quick function to change between 25p 4k to eg 120p hd for slow mo action?? cheers
Use the memory recall setting
Great Video! Thank you learned a ton. I am trying to figure out on Audio Recording Level, why I can't see levels.I push it and it says Shoot mode or Program Auto and mine is on Program and cant change it. Thoughts
Hey Tanya, you have to enable audio levels in the menus and then you have to press the display button once you're in a camera mode to show the levels. Each time you press the display button, it cycles through different elements on the screen, the audio levels won't appear on every one, so if you don't see them first, press it again. Does that make sense?
@@VicBarry I am on Movie 3 in menus. Then I toggle down to Audio Rec Levels and its grey and a dash. That is where it says Program Mode. And Audio Recording is ON.
Hey Tanya, you need to be in movie mode for audio levels to be available in the menus. That's why you're seeing the dash. So, press mode until you're in movie mode. Then hit menu and go to the audio levels.
@@VicBarry YAY! I missed that. I just got it. Thank you so much!
No worries. Happy shooting 🙏

Vic Barry and all here- hello! Thank you for the very helpful videos! SONY ZV-1 is my first camera ever and I'm learning to use it now. I want to use it for NightShot with IR light as well and I also bought SONY HVL-LEIR1 with IR light for it. On the Sony website it was stated that HVL-LEIR1 is fully compatible with ZV-1 so I assumed that I can nightshot using ZV-1 and HVL-LEIR1 together. But ZV-1 doesn't see the IR and I can't fing NightShort function on ZV-1. Is it possible to nightshor with ZV-1 and - if yes - Which settings should I use for photos and videos? And what flash light is fully compatible with ZV-1? Many thanks in advance.
Hey there. I don’t have much experience with this to be honest but I’m pretty positive that there is no nightshot mode in the ZV1
