My menu says face/eye detection is not available in XAVCS4K. Yours does not show that message. Any idea why I'm getting that message? Also, great content as always!
After much research I was able to determine the root cause- if "Control With Smartphone" is turned ON, the face/eye detection will not work in 4k. Kind of funky but at least it's fixed!
@@VintageKicksGallery just looked that up as well. I also saw it might not work in 30p or 25p 4k. I had the problem of it not working when PC remote was on as well
@@KyleWattsTV Mine seems to be working at 4k/30 with both the PC and Smartphone controls turned off but if either is set to on, I get that message that it is unavailable at XAVC S 4K. So weird Sony would block that out. I really thought I had a defective camera for a bit. Glad it's resolved though! One other issue I'm having with this camera is it continues to overheat and shut off despite it being set to the high heat option. I haven't heard anyone else report of theirs shutting off which is odd.
@@VintageKicksGallery yea that’s the first I’ve heard of that problem when turned to high.
@@VintageKicksGallery does it turn off because of heat or iddle? Because mine turns off after a minute or two in no action.
Excellent video thank you. I recently purchased the ZV-1 to replace my DSLR and I have uploaded a couple of new RUclips videos with it so far. I noticed fluctuating light in these recent videos, so I definitely need to set the camera up manually as I did with my DSLR. Saying that, the automatic settings are a massive improvement over my previous 700D.

Very glad to help! The menus on cameras can get difficult to navigate through, sony ones especially. Soft skin is cool just doesn’t work great with and having a beard. Gets kinda weird looking

Thank you. Great video. The only issue I've been having is with the zv1 on a crane M2 the sunny weather display does not work. Which makes it very difficult to video outdoors any ideas?

Sweet!! Good to know everything in detail now, thanks for the video! My Camera was set to Pal so I changed it to the other one to get 4K in 24 & 30p instead of just 25. Now it works as I want 😁
Depending where you live ntsc might make lights flicker on your video. So if you do get that then switch back to pal.

Hi I have followed you recommended setting ,but I cannot take photographs on any of the photo setting ,I set it up but when I press down the shutter it starts to record video.Any ideas plz help
This is helpful. Probably the most naive and simple question here, but I'm kerfuffled ..
What setting in the ZV-1 allows me to shoot in BOTH photo OR video on the fly? Right now when I set it to camera, and I hit the video button, I get the warning message 'invalid in this mode. available in movie mode' and camera freezes. And vice versa. Is there a Camera/Movie setting where I have access to either of the modes on the fly without that warning message popping up? Hope that makes sense.
Are the video settings you just showed us good for talking head video like your doing now? That mainly what I want to do. So once I set it up I don’t have to keep changing the setting.

When the Monitor is facing you in selfie “vlog” position, it automatically switches to mirrored mode

I know nothing about professional photography or videography so I leave everything in auto lol but I did wanted to ask! Every time a take a video the camera creates a separate file for it. Is that something that I can take off?

When you have the camera and screen facing you it’s gonna go into mirror mode but in playback it will switch back to the correct orientation. I don’t think you can turn that off

100 of videos and his video is the only one that explains the settings so nicely 👌 One question though. My zv 1 is set to PAL but when I change it to NTSC my camera says it cannot record videos. Can you tell me what might be the issue? Thanks 😊
If you live outside of North America, you will want to be in PAL. NTSC will result in weird strobing when you get lights in your shot.
Hey! What memory card are you using? Is the zv1 able to drive a sandisk extreme pro 512gb 170MB/s?
I use the Sandisc extreme v30 128gb as cards. I neve go above 128gb anymore because I had a 256gb go corrupt and lost a lot of footage. The 128gb will record a lot and if you run out of space move onto the next sd card.
Can it outmatch the iPhone 13 pro max in terms of photography and image quality?
What’s the best setting for a sooc video no editing required? Just for casual everyday family videos
I would stick to program auto or intelligent video in standard color profile.

I followed along for the photography settings and I am really not sure what went wrong with mine. After following through if I go to take a picture the screen and picture taken is practically black.
Am I better of doing a reset of the camera then attempting to do it again?

Hi, Kyle, i have found "Ultra wide Angle additional 37 mm lens adapter ring SONY ZV1" on aliexpress and it has 170°. Have you heard something about that?
There are some other wide angle lenses out there that work with this camera but the will distort a lot. The ulanzi one is the only one I’ve seen that doesn’t add much distortion or soft corners and still looks natural

Are you in a basically dark room with a soft light on you? What camera and program did you use and what was your post-production?
The camera set up used to film this was the a6400 and the sigma 16mm. I edit everything in Final Cut Pro X. Here’s a video on my lighting set up.

is there a way to have face priority in multi metering mode in 4K ? Seems it works only in FULL HD and its a pain without it if behind you is lot of light , like a window. Whole face is extremely dark, wish it would be so easy as on phone to have it nice automatically exposed for both behind you and on your face
I know it does it in intelligent video but not sure how to get it to work in full manual settings.
@@KyleWattsTV yeah my first camera and I was very disappointed, just because that face exposing thing is only available in FHD and not even in full quality like 100m or so .. not in 4K and after all jazz like intelligent auto and how intelligent it is .. just literally pick iPhone or something from your pocket and it will expose for both in a second , wish they would make it way more clear , also hdr kinda sucks , it’s either your face or bright background that’s exposed
followed the video exactly but when i saved them, in memory recall they pop up comletely different then yours. i dont understand why. also alot of my options are not available like no option 24p 100m but instead i have 25p 100m and 25p 100m???? and same for hd ??
Hello. Thanks for the video, you learn a lot from it. I have tried three units of the Sony ZV1, and in all three the sound of the AF motor sneaks into the audio of the videos. It also captures too much background noise for my taste. I'm a little disappointed in this matter.
Yea, that zoom sound can definitely get picked up. I tend to use a small shotgun mic like the rode micro with the camera

No, you won’t have to do that. your settings will save until you change them again
Hello Kyle and all others... For some reason I can't set my setings for slomo video to 120/100 but only to 100/100 in HD. And with my video settings I only see steps of 50 instead of the mentionned 48/96. Is it mee who misundestood something? Thanks in advance. Reg Mark

How do I change the audio setting to make it sound clear ?
There’s a setting in the menu to control volume settings. The louder you set it the more pre amp noise you will get. You want the meter to read about -12 when you are talking to get the levels right. If it’s possible I would recommend a small shotgun mic like the rode video micro which will give you better audio. As far as making it more clear I use some plugin effects in post like a noise suppressor
I make beauty videos and am always overexposed or washed out when filming in front of natural 4pm sunlight. Are there any settings to make it so that the camera captures me in golden light like an iPhone would?
Changing the white balance in camera will change the tone of the look. Manually set it to a higher Kalvin like 6k-8k

You should go and look for tab 2 on page 1 and click the File Format and click the XAVC S 4K
then go back to the screen cam and rotate the circle button and save it to Memory Call frame 1. Sorry about my grammar, I'm not fluent in English 😢

In my camera I have 100p 100m as the highest option for XAVCSHD and for the hfr settings for example instead of 960 fps I have 1000 fps is that normal?

@@solidz_shadowxx4478 yes that normal. The camera has ntsc and pal settings based on voltage output of different countries power. If you were to switch over to ntsc you would see a lot of flickering in light bulbs.

Can't customizable white balance: While I was excited to go through all these setting, There is a huge issue with with Memory settings on the ZV-1. Somebody at Sony decided that if you use a memory setting you can NOT adjust the custom white balance of your camera once you've chosen a memory mode. No gray cards in any of the memory setting, which effectively makes all of them useless. You can switch which white balance mode you want to use. Choose the any of the 3 custom settings, but you can not "set" any of them. If anyone else knows of a way around this, aside from never using memory modes, I'm all ears.
Any idea why on movies mode, my view is so dark? Like it doesn’t expose the light in the room

My zv-1 gives only record setting options as 25p 100M or 25p 60M how do i change it and should i change it at all?
I should have mentioned in my video that 24fps is for North and south America. It will show 25fps if you like in UK/Europe (your camera is set to PAL) don’t change it to NTSC unless you like in North America

@@hassanhowlader1579 it looks like if you shoot in “M, P, S , or A, they all should work for both video and photo with out having to switch modes. You will be on both video and photo in that setting though.
It's better to attach a photo sample on Google photos link. It ll be more helpful to get aware of photos quality & details.
How
A review by a purchaser on Amazon states that the Sony ZV-1 camera does NOT film continuously. According to that person, although you can film continuously, the camera breaks down into 10 minute segments. Another reviewer reveals that the Sony ZV-1 does not interface with Apple's iOS. I would appreciate a comment from an actual user here. Both of these criticisms are deal breakers for me since I have an Apple MacBook Pro and am planning to get the new 24" desktop. I don't know enough about posting and editing videos on Apple to know why this wouldn't be so.
All you have to do is turn the temp setting in the menu to high and it won’t shut off while recording. I’ve personally used the camera as a overhead camera for over an hour filming straight. And it does work with apple ios. I only use a iMac and Macbook pro with all my cameras and editing software.
This is a great video for beginner like me. Im following your setting, but mine everytime I put ISO125 it became dark. Have no idea why😔.
Please everyone do RAW+JPG instead of just JPG. When I started taking pictures digitally 20 years ago I did JPG for a few years and I REALLY regret it. I have plenty of photos where the settings were off and much of that could have been rescued if I had thought ahead and saved RAW.

The only thing I would think of is to turn up the mic input. Make sure wind reduction is turned off
