Actually instead of getting extra batteries for the ZV-1 you should buy a good portable power bank and a lightweight USB power cable. Some gimbals can even power your camera from their own internal battery. Changing the ZV-1's battery while it is mounted on anything like a rig or a gimbal is impossible and unmounting the camera will inevitably mess up the setup. Plugging in a good powerful power bank will also avoid additional heating up of the camera caused by the battery itself so it will run for a longer time without overheating.
Thanks for the great advice! Feel free to let us know if you have any questions!
Loved the video and that you compared it to a full production cinema camera, just to show how well the ZV-1 does. Honestly for most people, the ZV-1 does a great job. Crazy to think this little pocket camera is such a powerful tool for creating content.
Thanks! Feel free to let us know if you have any questions!
I agree, i got 2x of these ZV1 for either live streaming or something I can sneak on the side as an alternative pov.
I have it setup in a small rig with a 10000mah battery that can record for a whole day. I think it is a very underrated camera.
We use pp10 hlg2 or pp8 slog3 cine2 if working with other sony FF cameras.
For travel i really love that it has a hotshoe since i can do OCF photos with it.
Great video! Appreciate your perspective using it as a mini cinema camera
Thanks so much for the additional info and we're really glad you enjoyed the video!
I love this camera. I had it, sold it, missed it so bought it again. My only wish for a next version of it would be wider angle lens, and 4k 60fps ability. Literally those are the only things that would make it perfect. Well, maybe better battery life too, but that may be asking too much for such a small cam that does 4k.
Get the Ulanzi add on lens - makes a big difference.
Yep! We're looking forward to using (and reviewing) the next version too!
@@wakeywarrior Yep! It really does!
Or splurge a bit and grab the Neewer’s bolt on adapter. You dont need to stick any adapters on the lens.
Excellent video and a very very nice comparison for video and audio, much appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to film, edit and share.
This is by far the best comparison video related to the ZV-1. For sure you got a new follower here. Love your contents and very informative ! :)
A very helpful video - thank you! My ZV-1 is coming later today. I'll be using as a B camera to my Blackmagic 6k Pro. I really wanted the autofocus & image stabilisation. Lots of tips in your video which I'll be sure to use!

I noticed the jitters as well and considered a gimbal as my only choice to get rid of them as I didn't think the std stabilization was that good, this has really helped thanks
Thanks! Feel free to let us know if you have any questions!
Enjoyed the video a lot! This real world test was eye opening!!
Thanks!!!
"Active" mode is the same digital stabilization as Catalyst Browse, but without rotation axis correction and with a feature that prevents jittery smudged footage: if the motion speed is high enough to create motion blur on the current shutter speed setting, it won't correct for it but let it shake instead. Natural shake sometimes can look better than blurry gimbal-stabilized footage.
Great Video review, help me a lot. How about overheating is this an issue? thx
Great info- thank you

Thanks for this, I've had this camera for a few years and I feel like I'm barely scratching the surface with what it can do. I started using it for cinematic-styled vlogs and I'm having a lot of fun with it! If there's any would-be filmmakers out there reading this, it's a great camera to learn with before you go spending thousands on an FX3, sigma 1.4, and all that other stuff you don't technically need to start filming stuff.
Great input and glad you're enjoying it!!!

Loved this video. Succinct and to the point on all the camera features. How would this compare with the new ZV-1F? Any thoughts on how the Sennheiser external mic compares to the Sony ECM-G1? NEW SUBSCRIBER!
Thanks! We haven't used the ZV-1F yet, but from what we've seen about it, it probably would rank the same as the ZV-1. We also would always recommend Sennheiser mics over others, since even though they aren't a camera brand, they tend to ALWAYS produce the best sound. Thanks for the video, very helpful 😊 I can’t see where you say what you’re using to attach the ND filter?
You actually would need both the wide angle lens attachment as well as the ND filter, since the wide angle lens comes with a step-up ring, that allows you to attach the ND filter:
Sony ZV-1 Wide Angle Lens: amzn.to/3kqj89v
Sony ZV-1 Variable ND Filter: amzn.to/3Jz1ht1

I just purchased the Sony zve10 and its another step up again incl better battery. thanks for your vdo - I like your presentation no BS style, have ordered the WL-3 wide angle thats screws on rather than stick on.
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it and are liking your Sony!
Hey @Envy Creative you wouldn't h *appen* to know why I can't get the Inkee Ironbee Tripod Remote Control to work its bluetooth magic on the zve10? its gets * completely stuck and nothing happens,* cheers
@@speakerscoach I'm not completely sure, but in my experience, I have never really gotten remote accessories to work with any of our cameras with Bluetooth... Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
@@envycreative thanks. I’ve asked for a refund. All I wanted to do was turn the record button on from my standing position which I can do with the phone app.
Great video! Answered a lot of questions I had. Do you know if you can clean HDMI out to a Ninja V or similar monitor/recorder with the ZV-1?
Thanks! And yes, you can get a clean HDMI out to an external monitor. We have used this for monitoring, but we have not tested it for recording externally. Feel free to let us know if you have any questions!
Two years ago you compared 4 cameras. Since cameras are updated frequently, maybe you could do another comparison? I'm a total newby to vlogging and searching out what is available today. Many thanks!
Thanks for the feedback! Yep, we agree that it is time for a new comparison video. We got caught up with some videos that did not work out, which is why we haven't posted in a while and have a backlog of video ideas (see our latest video with the failed videos we tried). So, we should be coming out with regular content again soon. Thanks again!
Hello guys excellent video specially for new users as myself I bought the Sony ZV-1.
I notice in all the tutorial videos that they use the wide angle lens and how much better it looks using the wide angle lens, unfortunately non of the videos shows how it install the wide angle lens and were to buy it maybe a part number so it will easier to order .
Thanks in advance
Bob
Thanks for the question! Here is the lens that we use that works great (amzn.to/3kqj89v). Also, the lens comes with a small, adhesive step-up ring you install to the front of your lens (which is the ring you see around the outside of the lens on our Sony in the video). Then, you screw the wide-angle lens onto that. Hope this helps! Feel free to let us know if you have any questions about anything!
@@envycreative thank you 🙏 ‘ I will try to find the lens via a other channel as I live in Indonesie and so far we cannot order via Amazon.
Maybe during my next trip to Europe.

Thank you for this video. Was on the fence about buying the zv1, but after watching your video, I’m certain of the purchase. Loved at the end when you mentioned the lens adapter; how it can be used to widen the shot, or up close using the macro. That was the seller for me. I definitely want a wider shot.

hi! great video. I'm looking for a compact powerful camera for on the go 4k videos, and I'm thinking about the ZV1 and RX100V. I really like the bigger zoom range of the RX100V. What do you think? there are other good options in 2022? thank you!
The 100V has essentially same lens it doesn't zoom more you are thinking of 100VI However after the 100V they don't give you the inbuilt ND. Also note the external mic input was only added in later models

Wowww
hi, good video, just a question, STANDARD COLOR PROFILE is one of the profiles? or is without a profile?
Yes, "standard profile" is one of the profiles. Sorry to say that this camera doesn't have a mode where you can go without a profile. The closest thing would be to choose the "neutral" profile or a custom one where everything is set to 0. Hope this helps!
thank you for the hard work: my question is as I research, would the Sony Zv-E10 be the better buy or the Z-V1. as right now the cameras are about $50.00 difference. I am looking to do product reviews with it and I use my action camera for just going around thanks for your advice.
The main difference is that it looks like the Zv-E10 at that price is without a lens, since it is an interchangeable lens camera. The Sony ZV-1 has a fixed lens, so you can't change it. The ZV-E10 is definitely more capable if you want to get a starter mirrorless camera! Thanks! Feel free to let us know if you have any questions!
@@envycreative thank you, I will most likely go for the Z1 as that will suit my needs.

Was the rode wireless mic taped under his shirt? Did you use a lavalier mic plugged into the rode wireless or just the rode box itself? Thanks for a great video :)
We had our lav mic plugged into the Rode Wireless Go transmitter and we had the Rode Wireless Go receiver plugged into the Sony ZV-1. Hope this helps and let us know if you have any other questions!

Wonder how Sony ZV compares to Sony Alpha's. I haven't really used any sony's yet. I am a canon guy, but I'm interested in Sony ZV for vlogging.
Yep! We are Canon users also and don't have any Sony Alphas (yet), but if we get one, we'd definitely want to make a review about the comparison. Thanks for the feedback and let us know if you have any questions!
I just got the Sony ZV-1 white version blogger kit from bby..looking to expand my channel and do you tube more seriously thanks for you video very detailed and helpful
Thanks! Feel free to let us know if you have any questions!
I would love to buy this camera but none of the reviews, seem to talk about battery life, how hot it gets, how tough it is.. can you simply replace the battery when it gets low for a new charged one?
Thanks for the question! The battery life is pretty bad on this camera, since the batteries are so small. So, we would definitely suggest picking up some other batteries for it. Here are some cheap ones we use that work great (amzn.to/3ECGsJm). It doesn't get hot at all though, even with long recordings, so that is nothing to worry about. The camera feels like it is made of tough plastic. It is pretty sturdy on the outside of the camera, nothing that ever made us worry about breaking it. However, behind the LED screen, there is a part of the camera with thinner plastic, that looks like it could crack if the screen is not closed when traveling. Hope this helps and feel free to let us know if you have any other questions!
Does Skin Smoothening still works if you output the video using HDMI to a TV or a monitor?
It should since we use an external monitor to see the video signal larger and can see it on there. But, we haven't tried actually recording externally.
Great video! I have a question.
I’m not a pro or blogger, I’m jut looking for a camera that can take great pictures and has a decent zoom lens, what would you recommend for under $1000 😁
Thank you for your help!
We would definitely either recommend the Sony ZV-1 or the DJI Osmo Pocket 2 (which is what we actually find ourselves reaching for more often). We did a comparison video here, in case you want to see the differences (ruclips.net/video/WDCJzVnoHPo/видео.html). Feel free to let us know if you have any questions about anything!

what tripod did you use for sony zv 1 in the beginning of the video?
We actually just used a cheap, $30 tripod on Amazon, but this is the quick-release we used and would recommend (amzn.to/3zh0APu). Hope this helps and feel free to let us know if you have any other questions!
how does this ND filter work with ZONY ZV 1? I mean is it a 52 mm? I didn't see that in the sony lens? Or is it comes with an adaptor?
The camera has a built-in one-stop ND, but the adapter comes with a step-up ring with an adhesive strip that you need to put on the front of the lense to make it work (which comes with the ND filter) - amzn.to/3Jz1ht1
Thanks! Feel free to let us know if you have any questions!
ZV1 is awesome. Amazing. They really messed up by removing the phase detect AF on the 1-F. Completely ruins the camera.

We were using Final Cut Pro X. Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions!
Unfortunately when you use it with the crane M2 or any other crane gimbals the monitor goes black and there's not much you can do about it
We have an M2 gimbal and it works great! Just be sure not to actually hook it up to the gimbal's interface.
@@envycreative I did that. I guess you cannot zoom or turn it off and on from the handle but the rest works good
Does this camera shoot 24p? Just wanted to know. Thanks.

i just bought this camera yesterday when i try to record videos, i look so orange ... i tried to adjust the temperature/white balance/etc i end up looking fuzzy/out of focus i dont know what to do
Did you look at it on the computer? We found that the LED screen is not that accurate when it comes to seeing focus or even the image color, but when we bring it into the computer, it looks great. I think you forgot to apply crop factor to the aperture. So Sony says 1,8 but if we apply crop factor which is 1,5 for this app-c sensor it will give us result of 2,7 - the actual aperture. And this is why you see different depth of field between zv1 and you camera.
It is really misleading that Sony doesn't apply crop factor but I can understand 1,8 makes a better selling point. But why you don't?
Thanks for the feedback! We actually tried to move further back with our Cinema Camera to try and get the same field of view. Crop factor does not affect the aperture or the depth of field. If you took a full frame a crop sensor and took the same picture from the same tripod, you would have the same picture. The crop sensor would just be a cropped version. The crop factor comes into play, where if you took a picture with a full frame and a crop sensor, and wanted the same picture of the same subject. In order to get the same exact framing, you would have to move back a bit with the crop sensor, to frame the subject so that it appears to be the same size in the photo as it does with the full frame.
its a great little camera but not having an interchangeable lens system really limits your use cases for this camera. something like the ZV-E10 is just much better because of that interchangeable lens system and it had almost all the same features as this camera.
I can’t even tell the difference Sony just that good
2:28 wtf is bro doing lmao

This camera is good, but I can't buy it yet
Couldnt you connect it to a power bank via micro usb. And even to external monitor via micro hdmi. These 2 features would really make it a mini cinema camera.
Yes you can
if you compare the sony to a full frame camera the f1.8 is more like a f4...and this is not soooo famous as you said...by the way, cool "director" T shirt
Iso keep it on auto
Has anyone had the experience of shooting any proper short/feature films or documentaries on the Sony ZV1 and how was it? Much appreciated if anyone can share any insights.
For outside events. I found it overheated. Often. Even when it was 65-70s. Battery life? Not great. For long events expect 30 to 45 minutes of record time. Don’t buy their handle. Mine quit working after a few months. Have yet to discover why. Gorilla or a selfi stick work better. That said it relay. Very portable and excellent picture quality. Zoom could be better but…
