    How to make 100% coconut oil soap - Simple cold process soap making.
    In this video I show you how to make 100 % coconut oil soap. This is a very simple, unscented cold process soap great for beginners. It’s made with a 20 % superfat to counteract the high cleansing effect of coconut oil.
    You will only need 3-4 ingredients to make this soap. One of the ingredients is lye, please be careful and wear safety equipment when handling lye and don’t breathe in the fumes.
    This soap needs a 4-6 week cure before it's ready to be used, I forgot to write that in the video :)
    100 % coconut oil soap recipe with 20 % superfat
    This recipe is calculated with soapee.com/calc...
    Total batch weight: 707 g
    500 g coconut oil
    124.6 g distilled water ( 37% lye concentration)
    optional: 10 g citric acid
    Citric acid will react with lye and neutralize some of it. If you want to keep the superfat at 20% the lye amount have to be adjusted. 10 g citric acid neutralizes 6 g of lye.
    if using citric acid:
    79.3 g lye
    if not using citric acid:
    73.3 g lye

      @tellervo.  3 года назад +18

      @Robin Corprew I would never recommend using an uncured bar of soap because the cured soap will just be much better in so many ways. In addition to water evaporation the soap also goes through a crystallization and acidification process during the cure. This is a big reason why the soap becomes milder, harder, longer lasting and starts forming better lather after the cure time.

    I adore the video it’s so pleasing. I love making 100% coconut oil myself, but adding citric acid is not needed. When super fatting you can either keep lye constant and add excess oil, or keep amount of oil constant and add less lye. The only benefit to adding citric acid is maybe that it creates sodium citrate salt which will cause the bar to harden even faster.

I also get cold processed but I have to drive a more or purchase online. Another question is, does it solidify properly here in tropics climate? Kumusta, it doesn't matter what type of coconut oil you use in the soap recipe, the term 'hot and cold process' refers to the way (the process) the soap is made. In Cold process soap, the chemical reactions cause some heat but then the soap is poured as soon as the ingredients are mixed. When making hot process soap, the mixture of oils cooked for a few hours in a crock pot or similar, before being poured.

My mixture was verrrrrry watery and I even added fragrance oil, mica powder, and poppy seeds. I"m not used to dealing with soap at just emulsion because being new, I most of the times end up with it either seizing on me, or me having to rush because it gets thick fast. I used the river stone molds and it's in my oven right now for an hour at the lowest temperature so we'll see if it is a success or a fail. Still learning so I'm fine with it if it doesn't turn out perfectly. It's still soap, right? ;-P

      Oh my, I'm so sorry for the slow reply @Gristle & @Farida. 😞 I didn't even remember my comment. I am so very sorry. ❤
      I am thinking this is the soap I made that I used my rock looking molds for a masculine scrubby soap. If that's what I remember correctly, it did actually seize up on me (but I've read that coconut oil soap heats up fast so maybe that's why?) and I had to rush to get it in the molds, but the bars absolutely looked like stones because of it. I'm going to try again this weekend with just doing half uncolored, half colored (with pink), in the pot swirl, and a rose fragrance oil because my mom's birthday is coming up and she loves the scent of rose. I'm just scared the fragrance oil is going to make it seize up again. We shall see. Soap makers = scientists, right? LOL!
      Again, so very sorry for the slow reply. I didn't see the notifications soon enough. Would love to hear if either of you have have tried 100% coconut oil soap and if you had to deal with it getting super hot, super fast, (I have read that it does) and if you had plenty of working time (I have also read this too which makes it confusing because they seem to counter one another).

    Wow beautiful ❤️. I will try it. If u don't mind to tell wat is the benefit of using citric acid plz? Thank U

      @tellervo.  3 года назад

      Thank you💝
      It's used as a chelator. A chelator traps metal ions such as calcium and magnesium that can be found in tap water.
      Metal contaminants can cause rancidity and soap scum in handmade soap.
      A chelator binds to these metals so that they can’t bind to the soap molecules. This way the soap won’t react with them and the soap's lather improves & shelf life increases.

    Hi there! I love ALL of your recipes, I made this and it has turned out to be my favorite soap I've made to date (I have only made 6 different recipes so far). I just ran your numbers through soapee, and I could not come up with what you came up with.
    Are there other numbers in this formula that are not included above such as a different water:lye ratio or % water discount? did you use 2% of citric acid? Please Help! , Reverse engineering Soapee using another recipe makes me feel like I don't understand soap calculators at all! (and I have been watching soap videos and researching for 9 months before I started soaping). 😭

      No unless it is PH balanced. Otherwise it'll strip your hair of oils and make it so dry it'll split and feel like hay
