How to make 100% coconut oil soap - Simple cold process soap making.
In this video I show you how to make 100 % coconut oil soap. This is a very simple, unscented cold process soap great for beginners. It’s made with a 20 % superfat to counteract the high cleansing effect of coconut oil.
You will only need 3-4 ingredients to make this soap. One of the ingredients is lye, please be careful and wear safety equipment when handling lye and don’t breathe in the fumes.
This soap needs a 4-6 week cure before it's ready to be used, I forgot to write that in the video :)
100 % coconut oil soap recipe with 20 % superfat
This recipe is calculated with soapee.com/calc...
Total batch weight: 707 g
500 g coconut oil
124.6 g distilled water ( 37% lye concentration)
optional: 10 g citric acid
Citric acid will react with lye and neutralize some of it. If you want to keep the superfat at 20% the lye amount have to be adjusted. 10 g citric acid neutralizes 6 g of lye.
if using citric acid:
79.3 g lye
if not using citric acid:
73.3 g lye

Remember to cure this soap at least 4 weeks before using on your skin❣️
Do you really have to? I've used soap a day or two later after making it because I'm impatient.
@Robin Corprew I would never recommend using an uncured bar of soap because the cured soap will just be much better in so many ways. In addition to water evaporation the soap also goes through a crystallization and acidification process during the cure. This is a big reason why the soap becomes milder, harder, longer lasting and starts forming better lather after the cure time.
@@tellervo. thanks
Why do use a spoon when pouring it in the mold how long do u let it cure for
you are lier because you wrote its free but then ask 20 usd to recipe.
Woah in the tropical climate here in Singapore coconut oil definitely can't be sold in blocks like you have there .. They're 100% liquid at room temperature. I've never seem coconut oil sold in any other form besides in jars!! Beautiful bars too, so white 🤍
Yeah probably only works here in the north😁 Thank you💕
Keep ur oil in ur fridge
Coconot oil in cold climate usually in solid form. Even here in Indonesia, in cold supermarket AC, sometime they have solid form. Not liquid as in room temperature 23-32 C
I live in Florida and mine stays hard on shelf. It's not as hard as hers but still takes some digging to get out of the jar.
Same here in south Florida. 😂
This video is so clean and straight to the point. I'm going to try this. Thanks
One of my favorite bars was a all coconut oil bar. It's not good to use everyday because it will dry my skin out. But, amazing cleansing properties.
I made some of this tonight. The batter is kind of runny, but it firms up fast after you pour it into the mold. Beautiful pure white.
I made some but i used a different recipe i made too thick imma make running next time
नमस्ते, kindly leave it for 50-60 days to cure. It will probably eliminate the toxic effects of sodium or potassium hydroxide.😊❤
This recipe never fell 👍🏻 the most gentle soap I've made ❤
Even without adding a white colour, it still looks Very beautiful
What is the best place to purchase coconut oil bars like you were using ??? Thanks
BEAUTIFUL pure looking soap! I love the simplicity of them.
Thank you🥰
@@tellervo. I like your soap
That cocoanut oil u use where can I buy it and in
I am in the UK
I just love the wrapped bar of coconut oil
Thank you........making it soon I am watching it again and again Very nice thank You!
I adore the video it’s so pleasing. I love making 100% coconut oil myself, but adding citric acid is not needed. When super fatting you can either keep lye constant and add excess oil, or keep amount of oil constant and add less lye. The only benefit to adding citric acid is maybe that it creates sodium citrate salt which will cause the bar to harden even faster.
What can I use instead of sodium hydroxide?
@@loanicastillo3327 You can add potassium hydroxide but such soap will be liquid. Hydroxides are neccesary to react with fatty acids in coconut fat.
If I’m not wrong, you need to wait several weeks before using your made home soap….. Nice job 👍💕
Correct, usually 6 weeks
that is truly impressive pouring skill.
Bellissimo! Proprio oggi farò anch’io questo sapone 🤩🤩🤩🤩 meraviglia
I really like the clean and clean soap~ The purity is beautiful!
Thank you💕
Why do we put a spoon in and then pour in ? Complete newbie , thank you for making this so easy to follow 💞
Hello may I know the purpose of putting citric acid?
Love this video . Thank you
This soap looks so pure and beautiful. ❤️😊
Thank you so much for sharing how to make coconut oil soap. I do like the white color of the soap.Could you please show us how to pack each soap with paper and the clear plastic ?❤
Is it possible to add Essential oils? What about using hot processed coconut oil, here in the Philippines it's often hot processed. I also get cold processed but I have to drive a more or purchase online. Another question is, does it solidify properly here in tropics climate? I am new to soap making and I hope you'll answer me 😊 thank you! Love your Videos, watched a few already and I really want to make soap myself!
Kumusta, it doesn't matter what type of coconut oil you use in the soap recipe, the term 'hot and cold process' refers to the way (the process) the soap is made. In Cold process soap, the chemical reactions cause some heat but then the soap is poured as soon as the ingredients are mixed. When making hot process soap, the mixture of oils cooked for a few hours in a crock pot or similar, before being poured.
@@jonnyboy4662 in thank you... I just thought that the texture might be different as well as the nourishing contents when I sent use the cold pressed coconut oil. I will try it soon :) salamat hehehe
Hi
Today i have made the soap exactly as per the measurements shown in the video and the soap came out really well
Seriously im shocked
I have learnt soap making 7 month back and each time i did i create a mess ( it becomes gluey sticky or it cracks or it becomes oily )
But this time im really impressed :)
Great job keep it up👍🏻
I just wanna wanna know the ph level of this soap
I'm glad your soap turned out to be good😊
Merhaba sabunu kullandın mı? Memnun kaldın mı? Bende yapmak istiyorum ama cesaret edemedim
@@tellervo. tell her the ph level
Does it smell like coconut? Or does the smell disappear after adding the lye?
@@sueclemente4030 buy some test strips and check it yourself if you're that concerned. Because if your scales or measurements varied from the video even slightly, your soaps ph will also be different.
Does the bar turn out really hard or the 20% superfat prevents that? Growing up in Brazil coconut soap was the cheapest thing to buy but it was unpleasantly hard. Love the videos and recipes! 👍🏽
I used 25% superfat, but my bars were still rock hard. I'm ok with that, personally I like a hard bar, they last longer.
I like the foam it makes
I appreciate of you because of sharing your experience with us....if is it possible please share a video and show us how can make basic soap with glycerin and other ingredients❤🙏
Great video, I tried the same recipe on the soap calculator the conditioning and creamy parameters were below the lower range, 10/44, and 12/16 respectively, and hardness cleansing and bubbly were over the range, 79/54, 67/22, 67/46 respectively. IS IT OK / I applied recipe exactly
Love your video easy to fallow, please can you tell the utensils that you used it is safety to use it for regular kitchen use after or is your to make soap, because the ley on the bottle that is poison. Thank you
Very pretty white bars with amazing bubbles! What is the reason for citric acid? Blessings! 🤍🤍🤍
Thank you so much Cynthia❤️ I use it as a chelator, I usually send people to this article: www.ultimatehpsoap.com/post/soapy-science-citric-acid-in-soap-making They explain the benefits really well!
@@tellervo. thanks for the article
most relaxing soap making video thank you very much I learn alot just simple and easy to follow plus thank you for using grams
Is this soap used for hands or for washing purposes such as dishwashing, clothes washing?
Thank you for the wonderful video...
I do have 2 questions
1. Can use it directly by storing it in bottle with a pump without placing it in mold?
2.shud i go with the exact measurement as you have shown?
I'm new to soap making. I made a batch of these and the result was amazing. But do cold processed soaps generally last much shorter compared to the synthetic store bought ones? Or is it something I've done wrong with the process?
I fell in love with this video already 🌹🏆
Love the simplicity of this one! Well done!
Thank you so much Joan🥰
Hii this safe to use on face and body? I'm new in soap making..
Maam i m new soap making ur video is very simple to try .
Maam distilled water and citric acid and lye all there we have to mix
At what grm of citruc acid amd lye
What is the benefit of adding the citric acid? Does it effect the lather? I made some olive oil soap and I didn't really like how it turned out, as there was very little bubbles and lather.
Hello, citric acid is the raw material used to give soap cleansing properties. You can also use sodium hydroxide.
Thank you so much for sharing this. Your oil bar look so beautiful and white 😍
Sorry to ask, could you list the ingredients and measurements please? I couldn't really see the writing in the video. I would love to make this for my family please
It's in the description
Just so I’m clear… the citric acid allows you to use the soap after a few days instead of waiting two months?
The soaps that you teach are used only for the hands?, or for the shower as well?. I saw other videos that do practically the same thing but use them as shampoo bars! Is it correct? Thank you
What a beautiful looking soap.
I can't wait to try it. I am very new to soaping and was wondering can I add fragrances to this recipe...and if so, when and at what stage do I add it?
Thanks for your wonderful videos. I can't wait to try some of them as soon as I can. 💖
you really should get Sarah's formulation workbook. i've been making soap since 2014...there is good information in her manual.
This was so relaxing and motivating to watch!
Can we use coconut oil instead of coconut oil bar ?
Can i dissolve caustic soda in coconut milk instead of water❤❤❤
Fantastic presentation.
I would love this soap, the lather is so luscious! How do we prevent drying from coconut oil?
Is it dry the skin ..? What we have to add to make it for every day .
Very nice clean video. Can we add essential oil for perfume and soap colour and what shoud be the amount.thanks
Hello, you can add different oils at the rate of 10%. Add essential oil at the rate of 5%.

What size silicone molds are you using? I really love your video. Very satisfying.
Where is the best place to store them while they cure? Do you freeze them?
Wow your totally match your face 😍😍 thanks for the video but one question .. the reason I watch you video is because I’m looking for something safe and natural but every video un RUclips have lye in it 🤨 so I don’t feel safe so is it really safe to use ?
You are by far my favorite to follow for soap making ! Can you do this recipe with coconut milk as the water and in The Hot process method ??
This is beautiful and simple soap and I LOVE it! I just made my first small batch of 100% coconut oil soap with 20% superfat. I hope it turns out. My mixture was verrrrrry watery and I even added fragrance oil, mica powder, and poppy seeds. I"m not used to dealing with soap at just emulsion because being new, I most of the times end up with it either seizing on me, or me having to rush because it gets thick fast. I used the river stone molds and it's in my oven right now for an hour at the lowest temperature so we'll see if it is a success or a fail. Still learning so I'm fine with it if it doesn't turn out perfectly. It's still soap, right? ;-P
Thank you😊 Your soap sound lovely, I hope it turns out!
How did it turn out, Heather?
@@gristlevonraben will like to know also🤔
Oh my, I'm so sorry for the slow reply @Gristle & @Farida. 😞 I didn't even remember my comment. I am so very sorry. ❤
I am thinking this is the soap I made that I used my rock looking molds for a masculine scrubby soap. If that's what I remember correctly, it did actually seize up on me (but I've read that coconut oil soap heats up fast so maybe that's why?) and I had to rush to get it in the molds, but the bars absolutely looked like stones because of it. I'm going to try again this weekend with just doing half uncolored, half colored (with pink), in the pot swirl, and a rose fragrance oil because my mom's birthday is coming up and she loves the scent of rose. I'm just scared the fragrance oil is going to make it seize up again. We shall see. Soap makers = scientists, right? LOL!
Again, so very sorry for the slow reply. I didn't see the notifications soon enough. Would love to hear if either of you have have tried 100% coconut oil soap and if you had to deal with it getting super hot, super fast, (I have read that it does) and if you had plenty of working time (I have also read this too which makes it confusing because they seem to counter one another).
Need to learn that for my sensitive skin
love your videos and i love how you test the lather in the end of your video too
Hey, lovely recipe .......can i add 1.5% citric acid + 1.5% table white/processed sugar to this 100% coconut oil recipe to the water when I add in the lye? Also, when I add extra lye for accounting for the citric acid, should i also add more water or should water remain unchanged?
I love this recipe, but I would like to add color to the bars for my daughter's baby shower (light pink). When would I add the mica powder to this soap? I'm still a newbie...🙂
Very pretty soap, thank you for sharing.
It is suitable for all skin?
I made a soap as per your protocol
Within one day it is hard
I used for bathing
Its awesome
I used 100%coconut oil
I checked the PH of the soap by dissolving in water its neutral 7-8
Is anything problem for immediate use
Waiting for your reply
Please do not use this for immediate use. This will cause burns and irritation to your skin. If you want to use soap immediately consider the hot process soap making method.
Hi, I've tried 3 times now, with 127g of distilled water and 73g of lye, I can't quite get all the lye crystals ot fully dissolve, any idea what I might be doing wrong? How long stirring should it take to dissolve all of the lye. I mixed in a glass jug would that cause the problem?
Love the soaps! Just one question, with they melt if i heat them?
Anther question are we suppose to cure all the soaps for 6weeks or we can use it before?
I'm new to soap making and I have only done melt and pour. I absolutely LOVE the simplicity of your videos! However, before trying, I would like to better understand the soaping ingredients and the process of using them. Like the ratio of lye touse w/ or w/o citric acid etc. Do you have any instructional videos? Btw...thanks for sharing!!!
Thank you so much! This is pretty much the type of videos I make🙂 But please do ask if you have any questions. With citric acid you just add 6 g of extra lye for every 10 g of citric acid to keep the superfat at the same level!
@@tellervo. Thank you and I will continue to watch...keep them coming🥰

That makes me so happy☺
Hi, can i use this recipe for HP soap?

Lovely simple product. Does this mixture take to having essential oils in it such as lavender or rosemary? 🤔
Hello, you can add different oils at the rate of 10%. Add essential oil at the rate of 5%.

Very very good coconut oil is good, how many percentage of foaming does it have over other oil
Just the simplicity, I love it

Hi can I add essential to this soap? What would you recommend? Thanks.
Lovely simple soap, thank you so much for sharing all relevant information to make this, much appreciated 💕
From Ghana West Africa,am now getting into soap bussines kindly give me more teachings
thanks teacher but i want ask you about your soap its without perfume right?
hi.. thank you for the video.. the coconut oil used is food grade?
Which pour and melt soap brand do you use? Can u share link please.i want sulfate free, ordered one drom uk which said aulfate free but in ingredients all sulfates were mentioned.
Wow beautiful ❤️. I will try it. If u don't mind to tell wat is the benefit of using citric acid plz? Thank U
Thank you💝
It's used as a chelator. A chelator traps metal ions such as calcium and magnesium that can be found in tap water.
Metal contaminants can cause rancidity and soap scum in handmade soap.
A chelator binds to these metals so that they can’t bind to the soap molecules. This way the soap won’t react with them and the soap's lather improves & shelf life increases.
Can you use filtered water or mineral water? Thanks.
Is the citric acid necessary or can it be made without?
Hi. Do you have a coconut oil recipe for laundry and dish soap?
You would want a 0 superfat for laundry soap or dish soap.
I picked up a 50oz soap container. I think this recipe makes 24oz? Curious if I am correct about that, and also is it possible to just double all ingredients to double batch this?
Do I have to wait four weeks for it to cure
The soap I made is very sweaty, can you please tell me the reason?
This Soap can i use for wash my hair ?
I really enjoy watching your amazing videos! They truly calm my nerves! Thanks so much!!
can i use this soap you made here as a soap base for melt and pour soap making?
Hi there! I love ALL of your recipes, I made this and it has turned out to be my favorite soap I've made to date (I have only made 6 different recipes so far). I just ran your numbers through soapee, and I could not come up with what you came up with.
Are there other numbers in this formula that are not included above such as a different water:lye ratio or % water discount? did you use 2% of citric acid? Please Help! , Reverse engineering Soapee using another recipe makes me feel like I don't understand soap calculators at all! (and I have been watching soap videos and researching for 9 months before I started soaping). 😭
How much time it take to get solid soap please mention it
Hi, why you want to neutrelize the lye? Isn't it accurate fun the first place?
How long should I wait for it to cure? You used yours after a few days but doesn't curing take a few weeks?
I made my first batch of coconut soap. But mine wasn't blended properly like yours. Shouldn't I use that soap?
If no then after how long I can use ?
Bought some coconut oil recently to make homemade magic shell, good to know there's other uses!
Hey 👋 look I made watermelon 🍉 and also cucumber 🥒 soap how do u do with ur packaging 📦 it foam nicely and on my skin it was oily so nice
i have a question, do i need to add lye if i don't add citric acid into the compound?
How long do you wait before cutting 100% coconut soap into bars? Is a thin wire type tool the only safe option to prevent damage?
Your are using sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide as lye? Please explain
Hi how long before you can use the soap? Do you leave if cute for a few weeks/months? Your soap looks amazing 👏
At least 4 weeks, the longer the better
Hello, can you use this soap on face ? Thanks
I don't really recommend it
Thank you!! Can we use this soap for hair as well?
No unless it is PH balanced. Otherwise it'll strip your hair of oils and make it so dry it'll split and feel like hay
Is there an alternative to that can be used instead of lye?
These soap bars came out so beautiful. How many days should they be cured ?
Thank you! They should be cured for the usual 4-6 weeks🙂
Nice recipe and amazing video making of it all.
