🌿Citric acid information:
When citric acid and sodium hydroxide lye (NaOH) are combined, sodium citrate is created. Sodium citrate works as a chelator in soap.
A chelator traps metal ions such as calcium and magnesium that can be found in tap water.
These metal contaminants can cause rancidity and soap scum in handmade soap.
A chelator binds to these metals so that they can’t bind to the soap molecules. This way the soap won’t react with them and the soap's lather improves + shelf life increases.
Citric acid does not lower the pH of soap. Instead it consumes some of the lye and increases the superfat. Add 6 g extra lye for every 10 g of citric acid added to a soap recipe if you want to keep the superfat % at the same level.
How much citric acid should be added to soap?
Usage rate in bar soap is 1-2% of the oil weight.
How to use citric acid
Add citric acid to the distilled water and dissolve completely before adding the lye, or make a separate solution of citric acid and distilled water and add to the oils.

Never thought watching someone making soap could be that much peaceful ❤
💯 agree with you 😌
Absolutely! Transported somewhere far and beyond while learning😍

I make an aloe and cucumber soap every year. This was a reminder that it was time. TY!
Sounds wonderful🤗
Wow. What is the process of combining aloe and cucumber? Im so curious
It’s probably about that time again ☺️
Wow! I didn't realize how much work goes into making soap! No wonder it is so expensive! Thank you for making this peaceful and informative video. Your hubby and doggie seem sweet, I'm glad you have them to keep you company while you work hard! 😊
But soapmaking is so much fun and so addictive! This soap maker is internationally known in the soaping community for her work!
Aw thank you🥰
One of my favorite parts is that you eat the ingredients. I don't know why but I feel like this is how our ancestors enjoyed making things. Thank you for this craft you share with the world.
I make my solutions into ice trays and I find it easier. I also use a blender for the pulp. Just saying everyone does soap a bit different with the same out come. Thank you for these fine videos! 👍🏼💖
That's true😊 Thank you💝
Juicer maybe?
I add real aloe in too
@@sharonhamilton6107 I was thinking about the juicer too, so that I can skip the straining step.
I thought about juicer too. However, if you use it for other things, probably not ideal for hygiene reasons
Absolutely wonderful! I also tried your watermelon soap recipe and it was a hit! I added a small amount of peppermint to it. Many thanks for sharing!! Appreciate you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much💝 I'm so glad it was a hit🤗

Very relax to the mind to watching the video Thank you sissy
Thank you😊
This is very nice! Thank you. 🎉
Thank you😊
Excellent work😍. It is very important to highlight the process of curing the soaps for at least 4 weeks since that is when it is safe to use it because its acidity levels are respectful of the skin. If used before time it can cause damage to the skin due to its high level of PH.
I was literally saying 4 weeks !!!! Thanks for explaining.
what lowers its ph over time?
@@victoriadeery2081 What makes its use safe is to allow 4 weeks to pass before use, no less than that. The advantage is that these soaps can last for years stored ready for use or sale, so you can prepare a large quantity and store the soaps without any problem.
@@leonardoospina7110 okay. How does the ph change just by time alone? It had high ph and then 4 weeks later why does the ph go down?
Super creamy😊 thanks Nico for your support
🤗
