  • So wife’s car broke again but this time I decided to loan her the navigator and fix it myself. I jumped on amazon and ordered a new air bag for the the air suspension for only $25 (link below). It took maybe an hour total time to swap out and can be done with only a few tools. Don’t let BMW Charge you 4hrs labor and $300 for parts.
    Order part here:

    I have a gt..not a bad car for the money. I've had issues with same symptoms however mine turned out to be a wear hole the size of a pin hole in the feed to the proportional valve (bit with blue and red pipes) the black pipe from the compressor to valve was rubbing on the compressor mount metal chassis. I'd say it's a bit of a flaw. Check this first guys as it only lowed one back depending on where it was when car switched off.
    Excellent video though well done I just thought I'd add something to check before. 6mm pvc pipe works great as a fix if you save the olives/flare rings from the threaded sections on compressor and valve end. Also lube the little arms both sides on the lower rear arms so no false height measurements. 🙄

    Thanks for the DIY video...My wife's 2013 535i GT is going through the same issue. The BMW dealership where we live wants to charge $1500.00 for this job.

      It's honestly very easy. Just be careful removing the hose lines they can brake if you pull to hard. Also i realized they raised the price way up on my link. I found another great one on eBay. I had to change other side recently. The seller and brand on eBay we maxpeedingrods. I think he has a website too

      Thank you Pete, I appreciate the info and the video. However, I'm now wondering if my GT has a different issue that caused the passenger side air suspension bag to leak last night. After I noticed that my vehicle was low on the passenger side, I parked her on a level parking lot and waited about and hour or two while I researched the issue on Google/ youtube etc....it's when I came across your video amongst few others. Of course this happened after 1 o'clock in the morning, and I was about an hour plus away from my home. So naturally I was originally thinking tow the vehicle to a shop, but all the shops are closed, so I figured I'd drive her home. After almost 2 hours when I finally mustered up the courage to take a chance and slowly started driving, I noticed that she was starting to feel smooth and look level once again. Got to a well lit gas station, parked, got out checked from all sides and noticed that the suspension had leveled itself. I wanted to jump in joy and kiss my baby. I immediately went on the system menu to check vehicle status and found that my Brake fluid is low. As puzzling as this was, I drove home, parked her in the driveway. Now, my next plan of action is to add Brake fluid and see if she agrees to behave.
      So my vehicle, she is a 2013 535i xdrive GT/ F07 GT. She is under 5yrs old and has about 35K. Well, I'll let you know what happens. In the meantime I'm gonna go ahead and order the part, better to have and be ready then not. Thanks again for reaching out.

      @@JournyOfaPeacefulRuller honestly what it sounds like is you have a slow leak in airbag (aka what I changed). This runs off a stand alone pump in rear. This pump can go bad to or burn out if you have leak. So basically pump will keep attempting to fill until bag is all the way up. With slow leak like I had you will notice when car is on it will fill but your pump may fail if you continue. With Mercedes brake fluid runs the hydraulic shocks like in my w140 but in these cars it's all air into airbags. Let me know if you need more help or have any questions. I would love to help in anyway possible

    Prolly didn't have to do that. Like absolutely nothing. Sometimes u jus need to clear any vehicle check through the dash and in about 2 days or so the car will go back to its norm.. but if not then diagnose the problem, usually it's the motor itself, on the housing valve or solenoid that holds the air calibrated due corrosion it can be weak.

      What in the world are you talking about. In Florida there’s no rust. That’s merely surface rust and car had 50k miles on it at time. Also you obviously don’t watch the channel because I did a full brake replacement on the car as well.

    • @petescarport
      @petescarport  5 лет назад +2

      @@fireman480 you can take off the hose lines either from the compressor to see if air is actually going out of it or take line off the actual air shock. You may have a break in the lines or ironically both shocks went at same time. You have to test each system. If you start by removing the shock hose line you should get air to come out of the line when you turn on car. If not there may be a break on line or bad compressor. Then test at compressor. If you get air at the shock inlet then bad shock

    • @petescarport
      @petescarport  5 лет назад

      It should be the same procedure although you want to check by cross referencing the part online. You can usually do a search and it will let you know. Best way to tell if it's air ride is if car is tilting to one side. This was very easy to install.

    Hi Pete, I drive a 2012 520 GT The other day I was driving on a little bit of a bumpy road. A Light came on my dash saying Chassis- Drive moderately. I then noticed the rear left side of my car going down and feeling very rough. I went home and parked it and just after several hours, I had noticed the right rear sitting down too. I noticed leaks on the shocks and drove it to the mechanic. He mentioned that the Compressor had gone and needed a new one with a Relay. However, I had tested the Pump on a battery pack and it worked normal, good flow/pressure of air foming out and sounded normal. Does this mean that the pump wont do anything at all if there are leaks on the air spring? Could the air just be leaking out excessively from the air springs or is it that The pump is finished? Mechanic said we need to fit a new pump and then see if the air springs are leaking. Is it worth me buying a new one when I know theres leaks. Shall I take my car elswhere? This mechanic is not willing to invest some time looking into it carefully. Look forward to hearing from you.

    • @petescarport
      @petescarport  3 года назад +1

      I can't be 100% but I am pretty sure pump will shut down if it detects a constant leak. There is even a chance you broke a hose line or one came loose. I would remove the bags, since they are very easy and investigate lines. My guess is pump is fine since you tested it exactly how I would have. Most of the time it's not the pump and that can be a costly mistake replacing. Good luck and keep me updated

      @@petescarport Hi Pete, we tried the new Pump, came all in one package including the Relay. We fitted it but only one side of the car was up. We took out the air springs manually put air in and put it under the tap for any air leaks but none. We fitted the original pump to the car, it pumps up both of the air springs whilst on the ramp in the air but once we dropped the car down they would deflate again and car would go straight down. We check qll the pipes to see if there are any leaks, disconnections. What do you think is causing the air springs to go straight down when we drop the car?

    Thanks man! Ive noticed with my wifes 535 that same pass side issue and i was sure its a bag leak, but... at times it would sit in a garage for 2-3 days and its perfectly leveled and at times its down in an hour. Any ideas? Im about to order level valve on top of bags im expecting. Are those red/blue hoses controlled by same level valve aka pass thru?

    • @petescarport
      @petescarport  5 лет назад

      So it's ironically I am dealing with same issue you have now with other side. Some days it's crooked but other days good and my wife doesn't drive all the time. With the side in this video it went way down overnight and we couldn't drive at all. I'm guessing now I have a level issue as well but I picked up the other side bag just in case. These are all pretty easy fixes but if you go to dealership you will pay a fortune.
