My personal experience (growing up in the US), is that you're *expected* suddenly to know everything and it's stressful because so few things prepare you for adulthood. My parents are the complete opposite from each other about the subject, but the both of them are perfect examples of the US in a nutshell (again, personal experience). My mother expects you to be able to 'sell yourself', get a job, work hard, and acquire the money you need for a good living by a certain age, and with certain ease, even though she never taught me how to do ANY of that. She thinks leading by example is enough for me to know how to do it, too. (But watching someone silently sit at a table with pen and paper 4m away doesn't teach you how to write in cursive, does it?) My mother thinks that teaching someone enough to know how to *survive* will automatically make that person know how to *thrive*. Then there's my dad who is happy to teach me everything as best as he can, the moment I ask. I've asked him anything from how to scan a document to how the stock market works. Whenever he doesn't know something, he admits it and tells me who to ask instead. My point in saying all of this is that, because of people like my mother, I had no idea I could JUST ASK people like my dad. They hold you to impossible standards so you stress out internally so much that you forget you're human and it's okay to ask for help. The only serious issue is actually knowing who to ask... because some people have bad intentions. Different people give different answers, but who is telling the truth? Hard to tell.
I am 32 and I still feel like I have so much to learn and such a long way to go before I 'Adult' the right way.I think of my mom who at my age had an 11 year old and a 3 year old(me)and she seemed to do everything right, but when I talk to her she tells me she didn't know everything and made mistakes and when she didn't know something she asked for help. This video helps me because you always seem like you have everything together,so to know that you have the same worries, fears and stresses that I do makes me realise its not just me wandering blindly through life f**king everything up xxx
I'm 19 and already being pressured to have my own house and car and job and I'm like Wtf. Former friends have always been on me and I currently stay with my brother and his gf and she is always talking about it. I feel like everyone has their own path. I personally don't want a house or a brand new leased car, I personally desire to rent an apartment and own a used car. I stopped being friends with those who thought I was less than them and I'm doing the best to ignore anyone else who thinks I'm not up to their standards or expectations of me just because I'm 19. I have $10k in student loans and I want to save $$$ so I can move on out. I just got my first job and it happens to be retail but I truly want to become an entrepreneur, I just have to think of a service I can be passionate about because I have so many different skills and ideas. This video really eased my stress. I definitely believe in the "Learn as you go" method.
+Katrin Berndt , thank you so much for this video! Maybe I am generalizing but you (Western Europeans) are not as stressed as Eastern Europeans though. By the age of 23-25, EEs are supposed(pressured by the society) to be married, have a kid and own a house and a couple of cars. I am 23 and f*ck this shit! :)
This is why it's great to ask questions when your young, by age 12 my dad was teaching me how taxes work, how to drive, clean, cook, and pay bills, he'd take me everywhere and explain, still don't live on my own but glad I won't be completely confused, ask questions to friends, family, look it up it'll be fine :)
I move out from home, to another city in january and money is also the biggest thing that concerns me. But I am also excited start a new part of my life :) A great video, I like that you were so honest. love and hugs from germany!
I have my own flat & car and currently I'm job hunting und also have money problems but your words gave me strength. Thank you for that, you're an amazing person ❤
Wow, this came at the right moment. I'm almost 20 and I'm moving away from my city for college and sometimes the thought of handling everything by yourself is scary but at the same time exciting :) Such an encouraging video, really, thanks a lot for being straightforward and honest ^^ Also the glasses look perfect on you!
Don't worry too much learn from people it's ok to ask for help you will figure it out as you move forward never be ashamed when don't know how to do something information is one phone call away u are responsible for yourself if u don't go get it u won't have it making money is about adding value thru a service if it is stressing u out face it , take a little step in the right direction when something is going bad what can I do today to be one step closer a marathon is not a single leap but a race
I am 23 years old and I moved out when I was 19 and there's still a lot of stuff I am figuring out. This video is very helpful for people our age who are still trying to figure out how to be an adult. I would love for you to do a video on how to sell yourself and talk more about your company and advice on how to start your own business. Greetings from Portugal!
I know I'm behind on your videos, but I've been hiding from life lately and you really helped me. I just have to try a little harder and ask for help and maybe things will be less overwhelming. ❤️ thank you for this.
I'm 25 and I still don't want to adult most days lol. I think you gave good advice. You have do just step out and learn day by day. It's not that bad. I agree that money struggles are probably the most stressful.
This was super helpful! I am 18 and in my first year of college, what i want to do in life is not a constant job, but I'm going for it! I would love for you to make a video on how to sell yourself 😀 Love ya girl!
I moved out when I was 18 and I looked so forward to have an apartment, be done with studies and stuff. But just one month after i started my apprenticeship, I got really sick, collapsed several times at the hospital. Then they found out that I have Crohn's disease, and now i have to quit the job that I have, and I only get money from Nav, witch really sucks, because all my friends are having boyfriends, having a job and don't have to worry about paying their bills. I never know when i get money, and i cry every time when i get money because i can finally pay my bills etc. I hope that one day i can start working again, maybe not 100%, but hopfully 60-70%.
I'm 35 and still dealing with some issues above :-) I start thinking "what is wrong with me?!" Great video , makes me feel sooo much better I'm not alone ! Amazing and open minded girl you are :) Thank you for making me feel soo good now x
Weird to think that I watched this when this video had just been uploaded and you were 22 in this, and now I am re-watching this being 22 myself. Time sure flies.
I turned 20 today and this video couldn't have come at a better time! I have to move out in a month, find a new job, and buy a car. Mind you this is my second time moving out but in the "civilian" way, believe it or not this was less stressful the Military way lol....
I'm currently 20 years. Worked in a bar as a bartender, waitress, and receptionist. Recently moved to Stockholm "2 days ago" and wan't to work with something I'm passionate about. "tattoos, modelling, clothing, style or something creative" But don't know where to start or how to do it.
OMG! Hahaha we have the same age and i was a little lost about dealing with stuff and money problem and after i watched this video - i know this is a little "old" cause its from September, but i started following your channel for like a week, and i'm loving btw hahaha - and you opened my eyes to go and live and deal with my problems, ask for help and don't be shame to do it! I still live with my parents and i think about living about my own but i don't think is the right moment to do it, you know? But, one step at a time haha! I admire your courage, specially for starting your own thing and thats wonderful! I wish you all the best and luck to make more money, save some and be happy with that! Congratulations for the channel and i'm already your fan! hahaha
I moved in with my bf after I graduated. I'm 18 and I have no previous work experience. I've filled out so many applications, but no one wants to hire me because of my lack of experience (I'm a certified EMT though so I have that but no legitimate working experience). I was involved in high school so I didn't have time for a job. I feel like crap because I can't help my bf pay for anything. Being dependent is probably one of the worst feelings.
Mooovin out the neext Wednesday ,sooo fu**ing excited :D I totally agree on everything you said! Looking for a job(tattoo artist) and starting a new paart of my life is kinda hard, hope so I will make it :D Huge thanks on the advices ! :D HUUGS :D
hi.... katrin when you said that you dont known who are wathching or from where you are so right im from Bogota,Colombia i have to said you are kind of blessed so dont worry about money just look at you and see around the world how things could be difficult for other people when you realize it that stomach ache just dissapear ;) have a nice day
This video was a good idea! Im 19 and living with my bf in a appartment (swe), he have a job but i don't.. to hear your thoughts and so was helpful. Thanks Katrin! :)
I really like the way you think. I'm struggling myslef at understanding what I wanna be when I grow up (I'm 25 -_-) So hard and frustrating. I'd love to see more videos with you advice.
Your not alone all my friends are lost and stopped going to school due to not knowing what to do, it's okay to not have it all figured out as long as your trying to find what interests you, always make an effort but not to the point where it makes you upset or anxious :)
i agree i hate having money problems it makes me feel low.. and im currently looking for a job since i just moved to a new town /city n being pressured with school and everything else definitely does not help. but i try to not stress so much over it
Yes, more adulting videos would be great. I guess its different in your country, but enough things will overlap that it will be useful. It would be fun to hear you talk about how you got your business off the ground and the challenges of it. BTW Im 26 yrs old and still going through the struggle of stabilizing all the "adulting" related things. I've got my own particular set of problems that I have to deal with that have dragged the process somewhat. Most things haven't been very straight forward. I've learned most things from the internet since I have had near zero guidance.
I'm 27 next month!!! How did that happen!? I'm only getting the hang of this adulting business the last couple years :o some how I made it and now have to keep it up... ish! As always, Great video! I showed it to my little sister along with nibbles one too.
I am moving to Sweden soon and my adult life will start there aswell. This video was exactly what I needed. About the glasses, they look super good on you! I wear glasses since I was 6 years old I guess and lenses since I was 12 I guess. I don't even remember how it is a life without glasses and contact lenses haha I personally HATE glasses, I NEVER wear them out, only at home. Everytime I'm out of my house I'm wearing lenses (alright, except if I only need to go to the bakery to buy bread, for example, I don't wear glasses only for that haha). I'll turn 20 in December and I have no idea what to do with my life. Atm my life is a MESS, I can get no job (Brazil is in an economic crisis) and I try to make some cents from youtube :( I feel like I'm nowhere in my life right now which sucks, but I'm always positive about everything and I know things will be alright soon :)
luxusfælden is life! and it is sooooooo amazing! i am always flabbergasted at how much debt the people are in for the sole reason of not asking for help, and instead just asking for more money from other people!
I plan on moving to Sweden. I'm not sure where I plan to go just yet, but I think it'll either be Gothenburg, Stockholm, or Uppsala. I'd like to live in Stockholm the most, but I heard there's a waiting period of sometimes up to 10 years for a place to open up for renting. Is that true? Also, is Stockholm an affordable place to live for a professional piercer?
Did you forget about "deklaration"? I don't know excactly how "doing taxes" in the U.S works. But in sweden we actually declare our income to the swedish RSV (equal to the U.S IRS i believe), once every year. It's called to do a "deklaration" in swedish. RSV send us some papers ("deklarations blanketter" in swedish) where they printed our income, loans and such during the last year. We then have to check if all the numbers are correct, and change what is wrong. After it's done we have to sign it under "on your honor and conscience" and send it back to the RSV.
+MrBushman Well yeah but to me that's just click click click send haha. I never have to do anything advance so I didn't really include that in a "difficult" thing to do
good tips katrin, I'm almost 21 and i still live with the parents. it's nice cause its helpful and i do jump from job to job, no college for me. So i wanna save up for a apartment me and my boyfriend, do you have any tips on that? like should we save up like a half a years rent then move.. what did you do for your apartment situation?
Hey! Why don’t you apply for Apple? They are super laid back and allow you to travel and do your personal life! It’s hard to get in but once you are in that’s it! You make good money and they are very understanding and loving! Amazing video btw! Great advice!
I hope this wasn’t offensive in any way! I just brought up the idea since you said you have your own business and it is extremely difficult at times, this could solidify a certain income (for you to help Sonny with the other 50% of things) and you still get more than enough time to run your business and RUclips! I film occasionally, and edit, and spend time with my wife, and still work a second job. And I spend a decent amount of time still at home after all of that! I could try to put in a recommendation letter for the Apple store in Stockholm if that helps!
I'm terrible at saving money. Do you have any tips for that? I always find myself thinking "fuck it. If I die tomorrow Id die without doing what I wanted to do with my last few bucks" as an excuse. I live with my partner and we both have part time jobs. Any tips for an impulsive money spender?
I'm from Finland and we have same taxsystem here so I'm wondering how can you say you don't know nothing about taxes? You get some salary from RUclips and from modeling right? Of course you pay taxes from your salary. They take it automaticly of course but you pay. Let me know if you have good advices how to get rid of taxes XD! I love ur tattoos, have colourpictures myself:)
In US we pay taxes, and get taxes at the beginning of the yr. When we get our paychecks the state takes out money to fix roads and schools and other government businesses.
You have to stick to the projects you start and realize it's going to take years to get stuff built up to a profitable level. Haul for example, you gotta be modeling the gear, modifying shirts for fun, putting those DIYs on your channel so people can 'get the look'. Gotta tie it all together and be crafty about it. Your attitude about money has to be positive in order to attract it to yourself. It takes a positive attitude but also perseverance.
I don't work with Haul anymore. I do everything in my power to make my company grow and I do work hard. I know it doesn't come overnight. That's why I haven't quit in 2.5 years.
Awesome. Yeah, I was just using Haul as an example of something that you have experience/skills to promote across your social media. It works with everything. Seems like it would be obvious that things don't happen over night and that it takes such a long time... but this was something I had to learn to accept and understand when I became an adult. It was a painful process realizing how hard everything would really be, but experience does make it easier with time.
dont worry, in america people dont know how to sit down and do their taxes either.
Hooping With My Weasels me
I'm laughing because it's true 😂
most accurate comment ever.

this was very comforting ...this topic has been on my mind the past year!
While I do not particularly struggle with "adulthood", I find this video really inspirational. You seem like a genuinely smart and awesome person.

I never have to do anything advance so I didn't really include that in a "difficult" thing to do
You say a video on how to sell yourself! Can this include self confidence please thanks

It's crazy to think that I'm only like 3/4 years younger than you. I don't feel like an adult. I keep thinking I'm still a teenager.
please do a video on selling yourself!
Why didn't I find this video earlier? I've been watching you for a while but YT algorithm didn't offer me the video I needed :(
💗💗
Please can you make that video about selling yourself? It comes in handy with self employed people like us! x
pls tell me what the song in the background is...
how do you go about looking and chosing a flat/apartments? What would you look for when chosing one?
How can I find that poncho a year later!!??
What kind of glasses are those? They're super cute.
Boss Orange by Hugo Boss :)
Can you do a tutorial on how to do your buns
I agree with you, the main problem is the money
Actually, two O's are normally read 'uuh' . Its the other way around of what you said. About the boho thing.
+nothankyouverymuchx The brand is called Boohoo, so it is really pronounced with "uuh" :)
I'm terrible at saving money. Do you have any tips for that? I always find myself thinking "fuck it. If I die tomorrow Id die without doing what I wanted to do with my last few bucks" as an excuse. I live with my partner and we both have part time jobs. Any tips for an impulsive money spender?
the glasses suit you
I live in canada and I also don’t know what to do when I sit down to do my taxes. *sigh*
damn I feel it
How do people pay taxes in Sweden if you don't mind me asking?
+Radical Eddie It's "automatic", unless you run your own company. :) When you get your salary, the taxes have already been deducted.
Whats the background music? :)
I don't have friends nor parents, can I ask you? I'm watching all your videos btw maybe you can help me to avoid some thoughts and improve others.
Omg u so beautiful:)
Thanks a lot for motivating words. Not having $$ .... It's really baaaaad. I know sth about that XD
When you pronounced 'vuxen' wrong you basically said it in danish which is 'voksen' :3
In US we pay taxes, and get taxes at the beginning of the yr.
When we get our paychecks the state takes out money to fix roads and schools and other government businesses.
I don't think being an adult is just paying your own bills..
Taxes fucking blowwwwwwww, just sayin.
