    Great video, I just picked up the R50 a few days ago for the exact reasons you mentioned. I am brand new and outside of older point and shoot I mainly use my cell phone so I messed something Beginner friendly, but didn’t want to not have features I could use as I grew. I have been playing around with the settings and taking pics of my pets and just random things around the house to see what does what. I really have no idea of how things like IOS etc effect the image so trying to figure all that out has been frustrating a bit. Luckily I can set it in the auto mode that allows for some customization so as fool around with it I am still taking at least decent pictures.
    I have noticed that if you get the light right it takes pretty darn good images for a beginner in full auto, but I like to tinker and learn. Camera settings are like learning a foreign language though lol.

    After being non dslr cam user for a decade, I'm considering now to get the Canon R50. it looks like such a wonderful one. I'm considering to get the telephoto 55-210 (might be 200?) and 18-45 kit. It seems like more than an entry level cam that people can grow with. I'm considering to just keep my Sony as a backup cam for low light photos. My only concern is the price of the lenses.

    Hey and thanks again for a wondeful video Paul!
    This is almost the first video in this channel I didn't like so much. Not because the video isn't good and well-made as always. But because I just bought my first camera earlier this summer and it's the EOS 2000D. So not a bad starter camera, but... missing articulating touch screen, focus points and some more. Also the screen is very small for my eyesight. The R50 was and is just way too expensive for me, although of course I could've bought it as monthly pay. The EOS 250D was a camera I was very close to choose, but at the time it was a bit too expensive. 2000D is still pretty good camera for a beginner for me, who is learning pretty fast. Picture quality is great. I think the main issues for me with 2000D are the small screen (I have +5,5 glasses and cant still see well up close). So the 7cm screen in R50 and 250D would definitely help me a lot. I didn't realize how small the screen in 2000D was until I already got it. So both, the 250D and R50 would be great options for me and especially my eyes.. DSLR cameras is still totally fine for me as an amateur, but the big touchscreen would suit my needs. And I still feel making a mistake for choosing the 2000D, even though I got it with the 18-55 IS kit lens, 16gb SD card and small camera bag for 399€.Sorry for the long comment, but this video really made me think.
    Should I sell my 2000D and invest into 250D or even the R50? I've already bought some lenses for my camera which are: EF-S 55-250mm IS f/4-5.6 and EF 50mm f/1.8 STM.

    • @kitd56
      @kitd56 10 месяцев назад +2

      I have all three of these cameras; they are all fine cameras. I cut my teeth on the 2000D. It was like basic training, and it will always have a special place in my heart. I upgraded to the 250D, which is an extraordinary "entry-level" camera that I use every day. Recently, I added the R50 to my stables and am as enthusiastic as Paul is in its quality and versatility. Frankly, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the three. Since you already have the 2000D, go ahead and learn all you can from that, and when you're ready, take a look at the 250D or the R50. You'll do great either way!

      Yes, absolutely. If you wish to pick up a DSLR then the D3500 is a really great camera and has been featured in many of my videos. If you've decided on a mirrorless camera then the Z50 is an impressive camera, however I prefer the Zfc which is almost exactly the same as the Z50 in terms of features but with a retro styling which I love.

    Hey, I need some advice.:
    I wanted to start photography ( so I’m a beginner ), and I was wanting to be able to take great photos. I’m leaning towards the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens, do you think this camera would be a good fit for it? .

    • @photogenius
      @photogenius  9 месяцев назад +2

      Then EF50m f1.8 STM (also know as the Nifty Fifty) is a great lens and fantastic value for money. Yes it would work with the EOS R50, but only with the EF-EOS R adaptor. Alternatively take a look at the RF 50mm f/1.8 STM - this may cost more but because it has the RF mount you will not need to purchase the adaptor.
      Hope that helps.

  • @boftx1
    @boftx1 10 месяцев назад +4

    Great video. The R50 is indeed a very good camera for beginners but the RF-S 18-45mm kit lens has been almost universally panned as a piece of crap lens (even by Canon ambassadors). The RF-S 18-150 on the other hand has been largely reviewed as be a surprisingly good lens, especially for the price when included in a kit.

    • @piahelens
      @piahelens 8 месяцев назад

      I just bought this camera and it was already over my budget but I just couldn’t resist lol but I’ve seen so many reviews about the kit lens is really not that good as the aperture can’t go low enough to make blurry backgrounds. That’s what I was supposed to use it for, product photography with blurry backgrounds. Do I really have to spend even more money to upgrade to another objective?😫 or how will this kit lens do for close up shots? Is the 50mm f1.8 worth it? I know it’s used at 8:43 but in the sample photos it’s still with f5 which also the kit lens has?

    • @boftx1
      @boftx1 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@piahelens Given how inexpensive the RF 50mm is and the vast difference in the maximum aperture then yes, you will notice a difference. And for product (or food) photography it should be a good choice to learn/establish your style assuming you have the room to back off if needed. You should be fine and can look forward to a great adventure learning your craft. :)

    • @piahelens
      @piahelens 8 месяцев назад +1

    looking at prices for this camera i realize the times of a real budget price cameras (400-500 us dollas or euro) is gone because of the rise in quality of phone cameras and popularity of social networks more people who are not interested in pro photography will buy phones instead of r50 so its not justified by the manufacturers to produce 500 even 700 dollar camera and I think in the next years the price of entry level cameras (mostly mirrorless) will rise up to 1000 dollars but it will be even more powerful that the current budget models
