Bought it when it came out, then went on to buy the XT3, XT4 etc ... Gave the XT1 to my brother, convinced him to stick to Fujifilm cameras, trained him, and he went on to become a world famous wildlife photographer thanks to that camera !! (his name is Solly Levi)
@@eikoniseI paid $290, and you can look at the eBay “Sold Items” section and there are lots of them sold between $250-$350 in the past 60 days. I won’t make a statement, or video like this, without evidence.
I just picked one of these up locally a few months ago. I am a Canon shooter, owning the M50, 5d MkII, R7, and R5. I have to say, the XT1 is my favorite grab and go camera. I recently took it to a wedding in Washington DC, and became a 2nd shooter of sorts. I took all the images in B/W, and the family whose son got married, raved about them. Keep up the good work, love all your videos on the M50, and more.
I bought an XT-1 about a year ago. It is honestly the best camera that I've ever owned. I also got a reaaly great deal on an XT-3 and 2 Fujifilm lenses. The XT-3 fills the need for great video and also takes great stills. Sometimes I take both cameas for pictures but I alway grab the XT-1 first. The XT-1 is a magical camera.
I'm a stills photographer (no need for vid) and I can't decide between the XT1 & XT3 - is the autofocus with a lens like the 35mm 1.4 noticeably better? is there any real difference in image quality - perhaps the XT3 is a bit sharper? I want this camera to be my 'just get up and go and just take photos' camera. Street, people, objects, scenes.
I started with an x100S, eventually picked up an XT2, XPro 3 and X100V. I sold everything except my XT2. Took advantage of the Fuji hype and sold most my gear at inflated prices. Love my XT2, that’ll never leave my side (:
What I love about the X-T1 is the size being 'just right'. The X-T2 is big and 'professional', whereas the X-T1 feels like pure joy to me. Wish they'd go back to that size and I'd happily trade in features to accomplish that.
honestly for the speed and usability it is well worth speeding a little more to get a xt3 or 4, or even a xh1. they are going to be way faster to focus, have more features including usable video, have more options for film sims and effect like film grain and black and white filter options, more buffer space for continuous shooting, faster write speeds to cards, and in the h1's case a way better feeling grip for larger hand. but the biggest reason i would not recommend anyone by a xt1 in 2024 is parts availability. The brand really did not start pushing numbers till the xt2, meaning there are way less xt1s and xt1 parts in the world for when they break down. I can tell you from experience that new parts are very rare and replenished parts are getting harder and harder to find. Most repair will end with fuji offering to replace the camera with a t3 or 4 at this point, because even if they do have a part, it is going to be more to repair than you paid for the camera. This is based on the North America region, you might live in a zone where more bodies sold than here or there is a lower demand for parts. I know i always loved the feel of the h1 over most of the t series cameras, but i also have huge hands. honestly from some one that handles a lot of fuji cameras, i think the best deal right now is the xs20 and the 18mm 1,4. just a great walk around combo with an amazing hand feel for its size and a jam packed feature set. it really ends up feeling like a xh2s for half the price and half the weight.
Totally agree. Not to mention i do not like the xtrans ii sensor. I bought an X-T2 for $400 on ebay in very nice shape . It is alot more camera for not much more money
The xt1 was this sickest camera of it’s time, was following the insane rumors before announcement and got it day 1 and couldn’t believe it existed. Also it got insane firmware updates during the first years adding actual new features. It was insane.
I had the XT1 and then 'upgraded' to the XT2 because I wanted more of a hybrid Photo/Video camera. For stills, there is something about the X-T1 images that I prefer over the X-T2 and thankfully never sold the X-T1 so have gone back to using it. Paired with the Fuji 23mm 1.4, it produces beautiful images!
Thanks. You've convinced to keep my X-T1 that I purchased in 2019. I just received a Olympus EM-1 mkiii with four lenses. An absolute spaceship of a camera with amazing image capture and features. I do love it. I sold two fuji lenses and was thinking of selling the rest and the camera. I use the 27mm f2.8, what fantastic all arounder combination. It's good around a party table, on the street, small and powerful. (why was I going to sell it again?) I'll keep it now along with my 7artisan 12mm and fuji 35mm f2. Good video thanks.
Agree 110%. The XT-1 is a special camera. May not have the quickest autofocus or the latest video capabilities, but the X-Trans 2 sensor with the right lens makes great images. And , also it is Made in Japan :-)
I used to shoot with Fuji, I used X-E1/2, X-T10/20, X-T1/2. They were ok cameras, but weren't really that great, so I just dropped Fuji and was shooting with FF Sony and Nikon cameras. Nikon Z cameras are really great, love them, but they are bigger/heavier. I always wanted a smaller body for travel, so was keeping an eye on Fuji. That was until Sony came up with A7C and later with A7Cii/A7Cr. Those Sony cameras basically made all APS-C cameras, including Fuji (especially taking into account that Fuji still can't really make a good AF), totally unnecessary.
@@ElementaryWatson-123 Glad you found the camera that works for you. All cameras have compromises, and I am told the Sony’s are too clinical, need to dive into menus to make some changes other cameras have dials for, and yes have fabulous autofocus, dynamic range etc etc. I have two Fuji’s - older models and these are more than adequate and have a great colour science and look to the images. I also like older Canon bodies like 5D Classic and Canon 6D and these cameras shoot great stills and have great colours too. If I was more into video and needed crazy megapixels I’d maybe consider a Sony, but not my area of interest. It is great today we are spoilt for choice with newer cameras, but ones even from 10 to 15 years ago still hold their own if you know how to shoot with them.
@@ElementaryWatson-123 I shot Fuji, Leica, Sony, Nikon Z, Canon EF, Ricoh GR and Olympus extensively and I never sold a camera as quickly as I did with my A7C.
Totally agree. Great EVF, weather sealed and a flippy screen. Images are sooo organic. I feel that the x trans II might just be the best sensor of all time.
Im 16 rn, that camera got me started with photography a few yrs ago. It belongs to my dad, he bought it when the xt2 just came out. Even though i now have an xs10, which i als love, theres still a really great feel to the xt1, and the images coming out of it are crazy good. I still usethat camera, as long as i dont need the good afc and stuff from the xs10
I shot the X-T1 & X-Pro 1 for weddings and reportage back in the day. Made enough dough to step up to Leica. But always try pick up a few of these Fujis every year for back-ups as the prices were low used. Not so much these days. 2 X-T1s and any of the 18mms and 35mms is all you need for a standard kit. But the 16mm and 56mm are special ones too. The cheap 3rd party batteries was a bonus for me.
Interesting video - thanks! I have been all over Fuji as an ambassador for Fuji for 6 years. And I have always said that the sensor i the X-T1 is absolutely the best APS-C sensor Fuji has ever made ;-)
I’ve been shooting Fujifilm for a few years now. Had a few at first to test the waters, wound up choosing the X-T1 & X -E2 as my keepers, preferring them over later models, with which I’m still not tempted. As a single frame shooter who doesn’t give a hoot about video, these two (same sensor) suit me like a glove in more weighs than one 👌
this was my first digital camera ever.I shot it until it literally broke, and honestly, its only suitable as a beginner camera. The sensor rendering leaves so much to be desired and why not just upgrade to a used x-t2 instead? you can find them for $500 used in great condition and will give you much more milage. I dont really miss the x-t1 but I'm glad I started with it
Hi Mark, I got the X-T1 a couple of months ago. I love this camera. I paid a little more. $450.00. I got the limited edition black and silver. I just got the grip. Some time ago, I got the TTArtisan 17mm f1.4. This video motivated me to go out and take some photos with that combination.
Great video I'm in Australia so probably that will be retailing for around about 500 or $600. But that's still very affordable here. I teach photography in my local community at beginner, intermediate and advanced level stuff for my Advanced students and I cannot remember the amount of times I have recommended the Fiji XT one and XT2 cam they are just such great value and they also teach Photography within the camera itself. What do I mean by that having the dials on the top actually gets you to understand compensation. It also gets you to understand the exposure triangle.... Thank you for a great video
Short story, I remember the Fujifilm X-T1 was what made me fall in love with the proper mirrorless cameras. Because back then, my father had a Nikon d300 which I would use to practice street photography back in 2016, I was only like 16 years old at that time. Now when Fujifilm announced the X-T1, I was stoked and amazed at how beautiful the camera looked. It looked so timeless (both old and modern at the same time). And then they released the X-T2, I was more excited because I literally couldn't stop thinking about the camera up until today =) there comes a time where I would ask my parents yearly if they could give me one because the Nikon d300 isn't getting any younger but they couldn't since it's out of their budget. Fast forward to 2023, I finally graduated college last 2021 and managed to save up money and buy the X-T2 paired with the 35mm f2 and 7artisans 25mm f1.8. I guess the breaking point for me was because film rolls are getting more expensive that time compared to when I was shooting film last 2019. Going back, It is still one of my best purchases ever, and the X-T1 and 2 are still so powerful as photography cameras up to date. I never do video at all so I'm super duper satisfied even though the X-T2 is old now. Anyways, I think that cameras don't age as fast as smartphones which I'm totally glad. I plan to stay with the X-T2 maybe for 5-7 or maybe 10 years more if I can, I'm still justifying if I can upgrade to more recent Fuji cameras. I just love this camera so much, I feel like my inner child is so happy since I longed for it dearly.
Ehhh….. GREAT review. I love my Fuji cameras but as a reportage-wedding photographer I loathed the x-t1 due to the utterly poor auto focus. I’ve shot weddings on the x-t3 and this is a stunning all round body. But now I’ve borrowed the x-t5 from Fuji I am blown away by the focus capabilities. Also, I like I IBIS for using old Russian lenses so for me the -xt5 is the best all-rounder and I no longer need two bodies: the X-H1 can go.. I agree all your other views re other lenses.
The X-T1 is the camera that really sold me on Fuji cameras in actual use, but the X-Trans II is the only sensor I don’t love from Fuji. Upgraded from the X-T1 to the X-T2 the day it came out and stuck with the 2 for 7+ years.
i haven't even started the video yet but I just love how you advocate photography on a budget. I do watch a lot of other RUclipsrs as well and their suggestions are always like "Just buy this 2000 dollar camera with this 3000 dollar lens" 🤣
Cameras/lenses may cost a lot, but it's not like you are buying them that often. I've spent a bit less than $10k for the last decade, it's just $1k per year, less than I spend on bottled water.
@@ElementaryWatson-123 it depends on what country you are from. for example in India an entry level mirrorless camera costs 60k which is a full month's salary for an average joe. it is worth it if you are a professional but if its just a hobby you are better off with cheaper options rather than spending 6 months worth of salary on a full frame camera.
Yes.. all of the gear-heads, promoting buy-your-way-to-realize-you-still-are-not-a-photographer, are tiring… and endless! Hopefully something new will be better than what precedes it… obviously, but not always true! Anyway! Having way too many cameras, I can honestly say, that the camera you want to grab and go, is the camera to stick with!
Bought my T1 several years back for $200. Great little camera. I'm planning on having it converted to full spectrum and reselling my A10 Full Spectrum. I also have the H1 and T3.
A fabulous camera. For some reason I sold mine a while back and very quickly regretted it. I couldn't get hold of another X-T1 at a reasonable price, but found a barely used (almost new old stock) X-T2 for a great price. I do think the small upgrades are worth it (I could have bought an X-T3 or 4 at the time, but honestly couldn't see the value in going further up the chain). I have a few cameras and some of them are better for some purposes (particularly fast action) but the Fujifilm is still my favourite. Just a beautiful camera with a beautiful output.
I own the T2, T3 and H2 and you are definitely right, the upgrades are worth it. But in Studio I shoot T3 and especially H2 due to that massive improvement in face recognition.
Yup, XT-1 Baby! I do not need the latest and greatest. I have three of these beauties, built well, and the images are out standing! I adapt my vintage M42 Takumars to my Xt-1 with amazing results! Glad you did the review!
I agree with those TTArtisan lenses. I have the 17mm and 50mm manual focus, the 27mm AF and the 100mm manual Tilt/Shift. I also have a 7Artisans 18mm. I use these from time to time on all of my Fuji cameras, X-Pro2, X-T2, X-T3, X-T4, X-T5 and X-H2. Nice video.
When I use a manual focus lens…. I shoot black and white JPEG and RAF. B&W JPEG allows a B&W viewfinder and combine that with focus peaking in red. Great contrast preview and red focus peaking showing me whats focus at a glance. Of course I can edit the RAF files. Also up the grain because Fujifilm does a great job with the film grain.
Incredible. I started with X-T1, sold to my dad and sticked with my X-T2. both very lovely. I also have 27 f/2.8 and 35 f/1.4 (from fuji) and I love them both.
I still keep my X-T1 with an adapted Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 and shoot in B/W. I will look into those TTArtisan lenses, they keep the overall size smaller than when using an adapter.
Most of your points are spot on, apart from the autofocus argument, and that it was great in it's time. Continous AF performance was never that good (when it launched it was nearly unusable, it needed some big fw updates to be formidable. The A6000 came out at the same time and it's way stronger in that regard (andd in video as well)
Actually paired with 50-140mm f2.8 it worked quite well for kids baseball. My other gear at the time was 5dmk3 with 300mm f2.8 IS and Fuji nailed similar in focus shots. Yes it is much slower to AF than new gen Sony bodies but overall I liked my XT-1. Nailed more in focus shots using 56mm f1.2 compared to 85L on 5dmk3. Still have it but now I shoot with GFX.
XT-1 is pretty solid but one con that is annoying is the focusing glitches. I'm not sure if there was a firmware to fix this issue but when I went to the XT-2. WOW. X-T2 blows it out of the water. Everything is improved. Now if you are needing more video work, definitely go up to the T-3 or T-4. But if you are only wanting a camera body for stills. Then the X-T2 is the best bang for your buck. I like it better than my Sony A7 ii. I would suggest getting the X-T2 used and invest in a pretty dang good lens and you are solid for a very long time.
Thanks to this video I bought an XT-1. I've had it for a week and love it... It has an "it" factor that I can't quite explain. This is a good companion to my XT-4.
Before you revealed the model (X-T1), I knew it was the unit you were talking about. I still have mine. It was the gateway drug into the Fujifilm ecology that has cost me thousands of dollars. (Ahahahahahahaha) Don't get me wrong, I have no regrets about buying Fuji products and I will keep my X-T1 (and use it). And, I agree with you that an individual looking to get into APS-C format photography can do no better than pick up a nice X-T1 and a selection of primes. The kit lens (18-55mm f/2.8-4???) that came with mine is actually very good. It has stabilization, a useful set of focal lengths, and is relatively fast for a kit lens. (They are also not cheap on the used market.) I used to obsess over sharpness and MTF of my lenses. Now I find myself buying vintage glass because I prefer the less clinical look for much of my photography. I notice that the best vintage glass is getting expensive because a lot of other photographers (and videographers) are buying up the supply because they produce such nice images. Now back to your video. Arrrgggghhhhh... I can tell you're gong to cost me some money! I'll have to pick up some of the recommended lenses from your list. I have the Fujinon 35mm f/1.4 in my bag right now. Although the newer (more expensive) 33mm f/1.4 is a great lens, I like the IQ of the older lens. I have read, but not confirmed, that it is based on the Sonnar formula and the results seem to confirm that. I would also recommend the Fujinon f/2 lenses. They are small, less expensive, relatively fast, and produce lovely images. They are also autofocus. The new 27mm f/2.8 has an aperture ring and is weather sealed! Of course, they cost more although I still consider them budget lenses (for Fujinon glass). Great video... thanks!
My first camera was a Fuji X T100 , Because I watched your review on M50 I got an M50 because I shoot videos and photos. Recently I got an X T10 now I do have X T1 and partnered it with 35mm f2 XC.
Hi Mark, strangely enough I just purchased the fujifilm X T1 and was just looking for your take. Got the X T1 ( less than 200 actuations), with a Sigma 56mm F1.4, Fujifilm Grip VG-XT1, Fujifilm Flash EF-42, 4 batteries and Dual battery 2-input charger for under $900 CDN (around $650 US). I love the look and feel of the old style Fujifilm cameras. 16 MP is a bit low these days, but unless you're cropping it should be plenty. Thanks for the indepth look at the camera. Cheers
Hi @DanaPushie, I’m in Canada and was wondering where would be a ‘safe’ website etc. to purchase an X-T1 or X-T2? I’ve heard so much praise for these two Fujifilm cameras that I’m convinced to get one of them over Nikon, Canon, or Sony. Thanks!
Hi Hugh, Depending on where you live even local camera stores can be a good source of used gear or try photography clubs. Any online source might be worth checking, from Amazon to eBay or more local such as Facebook Market Place or even kijiji. You might be more comfortable with the more well established sources i.e. eBay, although I always try to buy within Canada. Good luck.
I'm about to turn 76. I'm about to ditch.....well...retire to studio and teaching only. my 2 Canon 80Ds replete with battery hand grips. When I add the lenses that I use (10-24, 24-70 and 70--300) they weigh in at almost 8lbs each. I need the auto focus, the anti shake lenses and the little audible chirp that the Canons give me when they focus (yes, my vision is that bad). I've been looking at mirrorless for a year and have been flummoxed by the vast number of really good devices on the market. You have totally sold me on the Fuji line. they seem to meet or exceed my needs at the price point I can reach I need two bodies, as near to identical as possible. I am crap at video so I don't need that. I have been editing in Photoshop (I experimented with capture One when it was still free and found Affinity pretty neat and the price would let me stick my proverbial thumb in the eye of the Photoshop CLOUD mafia. I would never edit in camera. I will be following your lead and I thank you for your guidance
Excellent video. However, I would say the X-T2 is a much better bargain: 24mp sensor instead of 16 on the T1, 4K video capability, better menu system, better native ISO, build quality is better. And you can have all this for only about $100 more than the X-T1.
I bought one new from B&H, about 6 years ago on closeout, sits on the shelf while I continue to use the Canon R and R5…I’ve only used vintage glass in it, i guess I will have to use it
do any other brand cameras have the film simulation being talked about in the video? Would we not need any lightroom/photoshop for finishing the photos?
When you said $300(ish), I thought X-T10/X-T20. I know that if one were to search for deals, an X-T1 can be had for $300 or less, but you'd have to work for it. The X-T10 is not a bad camera. I used one up till earlier this year when Dad gave me his broken X-T30 (which I had repaired and now use). I almost prefer the X-T10 because, like the saying goes, "less is more" and its simpler and has less settings and slightly less features, so its easier to use and easier to get stunning photos.
Hmm, how did I know which camera? I've had my XT1 since 2014! I still use and love it. While I have a faster focusing and a greater tracking Sony, this camera has been a continued source of inspiration. I've got all the "lightroom" I need with it as well!
Seems like you convinced me cause immediately after watching your video I went to my local second hand site and bought an XT-1 for 270€ and the 35mm f1.4 new for 90€.
Bought mine about 3 years ago, Fujifilm serviced it, replaced the rubber grips for new ones incl. faulty ports door, I have also purchased VG-XT1 for extended battery life and it's great companion with extraordinary image quality. EVF is better than one in X-T3, the only thing I am missing is the AF joystick. Don't buy one, buy two!
In my opinion, if you are going to get a 35mm F1.4, I would pick the Fuji one, yes it's 3 times the price of the TTArtisan one but you will have a much better time with it and it's overall an excellent lens to keep should you ever decide to invest moire into the Fuji X mount lenses line-up. Sames goes for the 27mm, if the idea is to go stealthy, the Fuji is smaller and a lot less prone to vigneting full open, unlike the TTArtisan where you ideally prefer to start shooting at F4, but at almost 3 times the price difference I can understand why the cheaper option is more appealing but the Fuji one is also Weather Resistant, so more forgiving too use under light rain. I have had my X-T1 since the release back in 2014 and while I really love that camera it's slowly showing its age, I will be upgrading toward the X-T5 that finally give me a reason to move up in the body, the IBIS is a feature I have always wanted to have as I shoot with a lot of legacy lenses (Super Takumar 105mm F2.8, Helios 44-2 58mm F2, ...) and those lenses could really use the extra stabilisation. Funny how the Auto focus was one of you positive point of the camera when it was maybe one of its most glaring weakness back in the days, Fuji had to release several FW update to correct the issues with it. Nowadays, it's all fine if your subject is mostly immobile or move less than a brisk walk. Another point of attention, anything higher 6400 iso get really noisy and the X-Trans is more complicated to de-noise than the classical Canikony bodies. Most image editing software have made league of progress compared to back in 2014 but X-Trans still remain a "non standard" sensor and is known to be a bit more finicky to adjust your raws in some fringe circumstances.
I am a huge fan of the X-T1 (and X-T10) cameras. Those two models are currently the best value for money in the system. Like you I really appreciate the focus assist button on the X-T1. I primarily use my X-T1's for manual focus and the X-T10's for AF (with a bit of crossover now and again). The X-T10 has better AF performance. Ergonomically I find the X-T1 almost perfect. It works for me either with a base plate like yours or with the battery grip. The later cameras unfortunately for my taste put on a bit too much size and weight. I have just two ergonomic criticisms. The drive mode is too easy to knock out of place and the rubber covering has a tendency to lift and peel. The 16mp sensor is more than plenty for almost anything except large amounts of cropping and produces nicer looking images IMO than the later ones. A sensible choice of lenses recommended here. I would also consider the TTartisans 25mm and 50mm f2 pancake lenses. I would question though whether that TTarisans 35mm f1.8 is the best budget AF choice as the XC 35mm f2 can be had for much the same money, does not flare and is a touch lighter or a used XF WR version will not cost much more. A word or two on the 27mm f2.8. I find it better than Fuji's own, especially when it comes down to handling and AF. Yes, it vignettes a bit but if you remove the hood less so. The front element is already well recessed so you don't really need it for protection. Don't throw it away though as it fits on the TTartisans 35mm f1.4 very well, protects the front element, cuts out flare and barely changes the profile of the lens. As my copy is a slightly different shade to the lens, it provides a really nice aesthetic touch to the lens's appearance.
I've just taken the plunge and won a X-T1 on eBay for £257 ($326). Upgrading from the Nikon D5100 (which I love). I am little shocked and excited to get it. I'm going to start with the TT Artisan 35 1.4. Wish me luck :)
do any other brand cameras have the film simulation being talked about in the video? Would we not need any lightroom/photoshop for finishing the photos?
Good content, sir. I'm still using mine professionally for weddings, architecture work, street photography, and every other work that needs a camera 📷 to take pictures.
This was the camera that I took the leap from point-and-shoot cameras (Canon G12, Lumix LX3) to interchangeable lens cameras about 3 years ago. With my priorities being budget and being able to photograph my kids(sports, vacations, etc.) it came down to the Lumix G85 until I saw one video that compared the XT20 and the Lumix G85. That video got me interested in Fujifilm enough that I ended up getting a used XT1 with the awesome XF 18-55mm kit lens for just under $600. I liked it so much that I bought an X70 and an XA2(Bayer sensor) well before Fuji prices skyrocketed. I eventually bought an new/unused Lumix G85 for cheap and am happy I did but I would still be happy if the XT1 was my only camera. Great video and thanks for the lens comparisons/reviews. I have been eyeing those TTartisans but wasn't sure where to start.
Great images, unless you want to use AF to get moving images. Yes, you can go manual for this, as in the old days, but these aren't the old days. Great for static subjects or street photography. Getting a few shots in focus, if someone is walking or running, then good luck.
the X-T1 was my first Fuji camera in 2014, and even though I own other Fuji X-T Models I bought a second X-T1 a couple of years ago, new and costing only a fraction of what I paid for my first body. Still love that camera.
I own an X-T1 and I kinda do not agree with the statement that's it's a pro camera that you can build your career on. It may have been this way in 2014, but it clearly isn't the case anymore in 2023, for one very specific reason : Video. And if you're taking a camera for pro work in 2023, you cannot not have decent enough video. Video on the X-T1 suuucks really really hard. You can't configure the image, you can't choose how the camera is taking the video the only thing you can change is the resolution and frame rate. The dynamic range in video is abysmal, you have no shadow recovery whatsoever, the highlights clip super easy, you have very bad pre-amps if you want to record sound, and maybe most importantly the autofocus is useless in video. It's very much a photo camera only. Also, I do not agree that the autofocus is great. It's fast for AF-S shooting, as long as you stay within the center phase detect points, but it's pretty lost for anything else. AF-C is very slow and very unreliable. Tracking? Forget it. It's fast and snappy enough that you can use it for slow moving subjects using AF-S but that's it. To me that's not "great autofocus", my D60 from 2008 has better AF-C than the X-T1. Now, if there was ONE very high value Fujifilm camera that I'd recommend, that would be the X-T2. The leap between the X-T1 and X-T2 is not at all reflected by their difference in price. For 100 to 150 USD more than an X-T1, you get : - accurate continuous focus, with tracking that actually works and is fully customizeable. The difference is huge. I cannot rely on the X-T1 to do portraits in AF-C, I shoot sports and BIF on an X-T2 - better controls : you have a back joystick to change focus points, the ISO dial isn't locked by default (which is annoying when shooting a gig), and both dials are lockable with toggle switches instead. You can repurpose pretty much all the buttons on the camera (thing that you can't do on the X-T1) except the Q, back and menu button. Command dials are now click-able, adding more buttons (and keeping the focus assist function of the X-T1) - 50% more resolution and about a stop better high ISO performance and dynamic range, with a faster readout for electronic shutter (which can shoot up to 14fps with AF-C) - a second UHS-II card slot - a dual axis tilt screen (if you shoot portrait orientation a lot, this is absolutely huge. I know it was for me) - a higher refresh rate viewfinder (50Hz in the X-T1, 100Hz in the X-T2 reducing latency and improving your reactivity) - GOOD 4K VIDEO with internal Log profiles, free LUTs provided by Fuji, the access to 1080p120fps and good pre-amps on the microphone jack for extrernal microphones (+ headphone jack on the vertical grip) - Decent video autofocus (similar to photo side of things, you can customize it) - way better menu system - more film simulations Not mentionning the fact that you are getting all the same things that the X-T1 already has (magnesium alloy body, weather sealing, X mount, etc) the cost for it? The camera is 2 to 3 mm wider and heavier by 50g. And the colors are not as warm out of camera (that's a good thing, the X-T1 can produce images that are way too warm which is a pain to correct in post). That's about it. Buying an X-T1 for 300 when the X-T2 is available for 400 is wild to me, if that wasn't obvious. The X-T2 is a camera that I can use professionally without any issues, while the X-T1 is full of them. The price difference is SO WORTH IT, could triple it and I'd still go with the X-T2 instead. (by the way, did you know you could do RAW conversions directly to the film simulations you want in the playback menu instead of shooting film simulation bracketing which is unpractical to say the least?)
Love my XT1 and XT3. However, I wish I never sold my Canon 5D mark 3 and lenses. The images were better especially when using Lightroom and the big body is so much more ergonomic. I got caught up with the mirrorless hype but found no real advantage and regret it. Just buy a used 5D 3 for about the same money as the XT1 I say. It’s full frame as well.
I still use it too.. along with X-Pro1 and X-Pro2, depending on the mood, where I go and the ... colour of the camera body I feel at the moment. They are all good, maybe the Pro1 is a little slow if compared to those others. Really great machines, I paid them around your price, I see I can have all of my money back if I sell them today (save for the Pro2 thay I bought new, sealed, in a real shop). I own also a pretty Canon EF reflex system, and I'll be damned if I sincerely have a single reason to keep it, save for primal fear of losing those large zoom "appendices"...
This Fuji has an APS-C sensor. I've just paid €225 for a Sony A7 (my 2nd) that has a Full-Frame sensor. The difference in image quality between APS-C and Full-Frame makes the choice of going for the latter really easy.
Very nice that you're recomanding "old" cameras that are still woth buying. Would be good though to mention that the Fuji recomendet has not a 24mp but a 16mp censor. And even more important that it has a MFT censor what especially comes into play with the lenses you`re recomending. At least these informations about the camera I got opening the link on ebay you have in the description. Think it would be usefull for buyers to have a more complete image about what they're going into... All the best and greetings
I use the XT2 and i keep trying to find a reason to upgrade. Then i take some photos and realize a new camera would not improve my photography appreciably
They look like they have went up again. Just looked at Ebay and they are all around 500.00 plus. I had one at one time and wish I had kept it. The 16mp had a more film look in the images. As for me now, still rockin the X-T2
thanks for the effort and sharing. i still use my XT1 (and XT2!) on a regular basis. your description of the suggested lenses is pretty darn tempting. thumbs up.
Sweeeet, almost got that as my first Fuji received few weeks ago the X-T2 after much research and pricing, seemed perfect. So one model up, couple hundred more but sensor and last one to be made in Japan. I love it!
@@viencafeoh on the pricing, I actually misspoke. I had been looking at another model the E-t10 and that was twice as much as the xt1. When I looked now and the prices have gone up it's crazy they're close to a thousand bucks in Canada for the xt2 (on eBay) any xt-1 is about $800 or so by comparison. So 25% more I guess, the extra features and I was more interested in the x-trans sensor II which is in the xt2 rather than the original sensor in the xt1.
I’d love a film simulations camera with a great phone app integration. These prices are getting crazy though. Lots of older and affordable cameras still take great pictures.
I would add the Fuji XC 35 f2 (for around 170€ in Europe) as a very good and inexpensive AF recommendation instead of the yet unreleased TTArtisan 35 f1.8 (lens 6). The Fuji is lighter, smaller and has a much narrower minimum focus distance of 35cm instead of 60cm. A few months ago, I switched from a Nikon D7200 to a used Fuji X-T20 and was very lucky to get a defective one for just 180€. The internal buffer battery is dead, so it loses all settings when the battery is removed. But I can live with charging the camera via USB cable. Together with a new XC 35 f2 I got a great starter kit for just 350€. 😁 And with an inexpensive Nikon - Fuji adapter I can use my vintage Nikon lenses (105 f2.5, 50 1.8, Micro 55 3.5).
LOVE the suggestions based on a budget. I just wish Fuji glass was a bit cheaper/had more options on the used local market by me. Just starting the video but excited to see where it heads
there is the Viltrox 13, 27, 33, 56 and 75mm which are fantastic. I've got the 23/1.4 which is nice, but not corner-to-corner sharp. there is also the Sirui Sniper edition, 23, 33 and 56mm, all f1.2 - but I cannot report on the quality!
Excellent camera, have been shooting one for a few years now and have tried a few others. Nothing felt as good and the improvements over the XT1 didn't seem worth the $$. The sensor has just a lovely look, and I don't feel that there is much room for improvement. That all being said, when I DO upgrade it won't be another Fuji, but an older leica digital such as the SL (type 601) Seems like their sleeper older digital.
I was wondering when the XT1 would get its due. I switched from Canon to Fuji and there's something special about the stills on the XT1 especially with the film recipes. I always get asked if my photos are edited, and people are blown away that they're straight out of the camera
Been following your channel for a while, mainly for budget lenses, and finally decided to take the plunge and buy the Brightin Star 35mm. To help the channel I tried to use your affiliate link which, for me, resolves to Amazon UK. Fair enough. However, the price on Amazon UK is in the area of £390 whereas on the Brightin Star website the price is £190.99. How does that work? 😂 So my apologies, Mark, I didn’t use your affiliate link.
Bought a second hand XT-1 because of this video, i was so excited when i got it but i quickly discovered my unit had a persistent "f0" error... The seller had to give me an XT-20 as a replacement, which i am happy to own right now =) one day i'll probably swap this to an xt-1 though....
I've been a great fan of the combination of TTArtisan lenses and the XT-1 as well since I bought the set some time ago. I have for example got some fabulous northern light photos with the 17mm, street photos with the 35mm and some blurry background photos with the 50mm. I've started playing with Russian lenses now. That's fun as well.
Looking for a first camera. Been looking at the sony a6000 (or 6100...) and then I see this one... Love the clear setup of the controls. How would you compare this fuji to the sony? Thanks for your great work.
you guys have to stop complaining about these videos driving up prices. youtubers have been raving about this camera for years. I bought mine off ebay for $120. You just have to be patient and make offers.
i use the ttartisans, 17,23,35. personally, i recommend the 23mm the most for its design, size. it weights abit heavier than the 35mm on camera. also the extra wide angle allow you to have more shooting angle. the 35mm is the sharpest among all, great image and great details. The 17mm, however is the weakest among all despite having 17mm. even if i stop down to f4, you can see harsh lighting and least sharpness compare to 23 & 35mm. have yet to get the 27mm f2.8 but planning to get soon. am skipping the AF 35 1.8 (since i dont like 35mm focal length tbh) and skipping the 50mm f1.2 as well (since i am using sigma 56mm)
You was lucky , I keep a very close eye on the xt1's and mostly avg $500 . Im steady waiting for that $300 one to pop up. Mpb avg 430 to 550, ebay and fb avg 500 plus. I think ebay is the highest on older cameras. I got lucky on a Canon 7d mkii @ $200 with no issues.
Hello Mark. My surgery went very well. Long recovery though. Been planning on getting the Canon R5O and lens u recommended so that we can travel once I fully recover but this camera looks amazing as I really do not intend to shoot video. Would this be a better option for me. I love street and landscape with the lens capabilities of zooming a bit for landscape. If so what automatic lens or lens should I consider? Can’t tell u how much researching prices and YT R50 tutorials helped prepare me for an intense surgery by keeping my spirits up. I owe u for helping me ❤.
Hang in there! Keep researching the cameras, the Fuji experience is totally different from Canon. Your main decision is which user experience and the ergonomics you prefer, keep watching videos with this in mind, it will help guide your decision.
NOTE: I paid $290 for mine. If you look on eBay, by "Sold Items" you will see that recent sales are between $250-$350, but some are higher. You can often get the best prices on FaceBook Marketplace.

Just googled him out of curiosity, ridiculously amazing photo's 😮
Wow
What is he and you using now?
He has amazing work.
Followed him for years....... just returned to the T1 as definetly prefer the colours to the newer sensors
Nooooo....stop driving up the price of used Fuji gear😂
It already up by 100 bugs 😝
Damn a whole 100 bugs
I literally thought the sane 😅😅😅
Nope it was never fucking $280 to begin with.
What lens did you use on it for the wedding? Thanks!
It's worth replacing the eyecup on the xt1 with one from the xt2. It gives much better light seal for seeing in bright light.
@@AndyNormanPhotography I do believe I have the XT2 eyecup already.
It was insane.
that's insane
XT1 graphite owner here, I use one with Olympus OM lenses and Novoflex adapter. Excellent sharpness and colours. Bliss.
Olympus glas is so underrated. Gems
Oly zuikos are dirt cheap.
Can you describe what that 'something' is with the XT1? Trying to decide between an XT1 & XT3...
Still use my XT1 all the time. My fav lens is the Fuji 35 1.4, for sure.
I love that lens too.
@@ElementaryWatson-123 A7C was my worst camera purchase EVER
@@RayRayTheKing why, curious to know. I was going to go sony a7c before i decided on xt1.
I'm still rocking this in 2023. I focused on glass and some day will upgrade the body. Great camera for astrophotography. Get the Rokinon 12mm 2.0.
The X-T1 was the camera that started my Fujifilm journey. It is still my travel camera.
Also, I like I
IBIS for using old Russian lenses so for me the -xt5 is the best all-rounder and I no longer need two bodies: the X-H1 can go..
Yah, often the setups being recommended cost more than people's cars.
popular youtubers like peter mckinnon now only try to push us 6k dollar leicas to us
Cameras/lenses may cost a lot, but it's not like you are buying them that often.
The XT1 and 35mm 1.4 is an incredible combination, I use it more than the X100V
Great video! I still have mine along with the x100s. I can’t believe it’s going on 10yrs. Love this camera!
I have the same two bodies...Very cool cameras.
Fantastic lens. I was gifted it along with a Canon T70 by my older brother when he switched to digital.
(They are also not cheap on the used market.)
I used to obsess over sharpness and MTF of my lenses.
Great video... thanks!
That 7 artisans f0.95 35mm is brilliant. Thank you for recommending it
My first camera was a Fuji X T100 , Because I watched your review on M50 I got an M50 because I shoot videos and photos.
Good luck.
@@DanaPushie Thank you so much for that advice. It’s greatly appreciated!
And you can have all this for only about $100 more than the X-T1.
fully agree. actually I have seen recently X-T2s under 300CHF
I own two xt2's, great camera!
Good to hear your feedback esp about the camera's video capability ... for me, it must be a good hybrid.
I've got 2 Fuji's, bought both used (x-pro2 and x-h1), fantastic gear
Started my fuji journey with XT-1 just to test the experience. Never looking back since.
Seems like you convinced me cause immediately after watching your video I went to my local second hand site and bought an XT-1 for 270€ and the 35mm f1.4 new for 90€.
where?

Bought mine about 3 years ago, Fujifilm serviced it, replaced the rubber grips for new ones incl. faulty ports door, I have also purchased VG-XT1 for extended battery life and it's great companion with extraordinary image quality. EVF is better than one in X-T3, the only thing I am missing is the AF joystick. Don't buy one, buy two!
I’ve had a x100s, xe4, and the xt1 is the only one I kept. It’s a solid camera.
I bought a XE4 for myself and XT1 for my wife. I ended up giving her the XE4 because i just loved the images from XT1 that much more.
❤Oh, I've got the X-T2 and I think it's a real upgrade in any way!
And I've got the X-T3 which is an extra update in terms of autofocus.
Love my XT-2 and XT-3 Fuji cameras. These are great cameras and have great lenses along with.
Great to hear! Thanks for sharing.
Killer Lauten mic! Theyr'e truly oustanding for voiceover work!
It's literally one of my favourite things on earth.
Bought a xt2 from a guy for 300. Another sleeper is the canon 5d mark ii plus you can find cheap glass for it and its full frame.
the X-T1 was my first Fuji camera in 2014, and even though I own other Fuji X-T Models I bought a second X-T1 a couple of years ago, new and costing only a fraction of what I paid for my first body.
For 100 to 150 USD more than an X-T1, you get :
- accurate continuous focus, with tracking that actually works and is fully customizeable. The difference is huge. I cannot rely on the X-T1 to do portraits in AF-C, I shoot sports and BIF on an X-T2
- better controls : you have a back joystick to change focus points, the ISO dial isn't locked by default (which is annoying when shooting a gig), and both dials are lockable with toggle switches instead. You can repurpose pretty much all the buttons on the camera (thing that you can't do on the X-T1) except the Q, back and menu button. Command dials are now click-able, adding more buttons (and keeping the focus assist function of the X-T1)
- 50% more resolution and about a stop better high ISO performance and dynamic range, with a faster readout for electronic shutter (which can shoot up to 14fps with AF-C)
- a second UHS-II card slot
- a dual axis tilt screen (if you shoot portrait orientation a lot, this is absolutely huge. I know it was for me)
- a higher refresh rate viewfinder (50Hz in the X-T1, 100Hz in the X-T2 reducing latency and improving your reactivity)
- GOOD 4K VIDEO with internal Log profiles, free LUTs provided by Fuji, the access to 1080p120fps and good pre-amps on the microphone jack for extrernal microphones (+ headphone jack on the vertical grip)
- Decent video autofocus (similar to photo side of things, you can customize it)
- way better menu system
- more film simulations
Not mentionning the fact that you are getting all the same things that the X-T1 already has (magnesium alloy body, weather sealing, X mount, etc)
the cost for it?
Someone left the bathroom door open and the light on,
so I'm having trouble concentrating on watching this video.
Now I can't unseen it.!
It's annoying for ocd.
They look like they have went up again. Just looked at Ebay and they are all around 500.00 plus. I had one at one time and wish I had kept it. The 16mp had a more film look in the images. As for me now, still rockin the X-T2
thanks for the effort and sharing. i still use my XT1 (and XT2!) on a regular basis. your description of the suggested lenses is pretty darn tempting. thumbs up.
May I ask which one would you like more ? Xt1 or XT2 ?
Thank you
You can easily buy a MC Rokkor 58mm f/1.4 for cheap money manual focus with adapter.
Sweeeet, almost got that as my first Fuji received few weeks ago the X-T2 after much research and pricing, seemed perfect. So one model up, couple hundred more but sensor and last one to be made in Japan. I love it!
I really didn't understand which camera you were referring to.
@@viencafe x-T2 I mean
@@stephen-wahl Thanks. But what's the main reason you got the X-t2, even that it's twice the price.
A 35mm lens on a crop sensor camera is approx the same as a 50mm on full frame/35mm film camera. 35x1.4 or 1.6 etc
Yes, great camera to start with photography.
I’d love a film simulations camera with a great phone app integration. These prices are getting crazy though. Lots of older and affordable cameras still take great pictures.
I owned the X-T1 since 2017 and although its really bad at video, photography (esp in b&w) rocks!
That’s a good trip. Thanks.
My brother in christ, the XT-1 does not go anywhere near $290......... I WISH
Maybe $500
Got mine 3 years ago for 200 back then, last year it was still like around 300 bucks now they are no less than 400 it's wild
Yeah …
Been following your channel for a while, mainly for budget lenses, and finally decided to take the plunge and buy the Brightin Star 35mm. To help the channel I tried to use your affiliate link which, for me, resolves to Amazon UK. Fair enough. However, the price on Amazon UK is in the area of £390 whereas on the Brightin Star website the price is £190.99. How does that work? 😂 So my apologies, Mark, I didn’t use your affiliate link.
I use the graphite X-T1 with the 23mm f2 R WR lens…..wonderful combination.
i have the X-T1 and it also pairs nicely with the Viltrox XF 75mm f1.2 pro lens.
Love your videos and recommendations! Great job!
I have XT1 and I love it so much. For the photography is the best.
@@markwiemels It will help take my mind off other things. I appreciate u!
I can't agree more. I have two of them with different lenses in case of swift work. National Geographic ranked it highly.
If they were the same price: xt-20 or xt-1? I want to buy it to travel. Also do you have a budget zoom lens recommendation?
