From Mattpoisett to Mystic to Bristol, we go from boat show to a short-term home base, take many visitors on board, and motor along to new horizons... just around the corner. We still see people we know wherever we go, though, getting some big hellos from boats passing by.
As far as projects are concerned, we fire up the water maker, which is a high-pressure, reverse-osmosis system that desalinates sea water. Since it's removing dissolved salts, yes it does indeed remove bacteria and viruses as well, which are larger than salts. Satchel does some good explanations on how to start a water maker for the first time. TDS stands for total dissolved solids. What's the power draw on the 12 V electrical system? How much water can this water maker put out?
The last few minutes are a nature show. Enjoy!!

Acorn to Arabella is a wooden boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve started as an amateur wooden boat builder building a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond-sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that classic wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY boatbuilding project will continue well past launch, when he and the crew will travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva.

Been following since the day you posted the lead keel pour and I've never commented but I just had to say your smile on the thumbnail to this video is possibly the most wholesome thing I've seen since before covid, Steve.

Dear Steve, Anne and all others who worked on Arabella,
It’s nice and interesting to see how everything on Arabella is working and how the boat is sailing by her engine. Also her dinghy Victoria is nice built and looks perfect on board. For us this dinghy is rather wobbly and very small as Steve wasn’t able to sit in the back of the dinghy after the electric outboard engine was mounted. Possibly this can be solved by a distance mounted outboard motor mount in style of the beautiful built dinghy. Willeke and I wish the crew of Arabella a lot of happy moments with all kind of destinations and send you love from The Netherlands

Wow, the Rock and Snow tee shirt! Hats off for that! A great little climbing shop in New Paltz. Our first trip to the Gunks in 1985, I pulled up and walked into the store to buy a guide book. My wife was still asleep in the camper parked outside. She wandered in a short while later and asked "Where are we?". The clerk, without hesitation, told her "Wake up, you're going climbing."

Thanks for a great video and congratulations on your award. A couple of things came to mind while watching. If you are going to tow Victoria much then don’t rely on a single tow point; make a rope bridle and attach to strong points on Victoria. A second tow line would also help. The other thing was that, since younger sailors may be watching, it would be good to show that you wear life jackets when using Victoria. You are probably great swimmers but not everyone will be. You can show a good example.

Glad you're having Kieva join you on Arabella. Recommend that you get some artificial turf and cut it into 2-3 ft squares. Place the turf in an appropriate spot on the boat and train Kieva to do her business on the turf. Then periodically wash the turf overboard and then it is ready for reuse. Easy for you and easy for Kieva.

It's awesome that y'all and Bob too got awards for both builds. Your attention to detail is above board, even if it wasn't the highest level of "master class" wood working there, as was Bob's. Both boats are works of art. Of course Arabella still has work to be done, but don't all wooden boats? Enjoy your award. It is most definitely deserved. Your build has something most others don't, I single amateur builder with a non-stop go get em don't quit attitude and a pack of helpers and followers who believe in his project.

Wonderful congratulations to you and Bob on your awards. As I watched you head to Bristol, I realized that I recognized the waters. After the boat show in Mystic two years ago, we had the opportunity to go sailing on a friend and fellow boat builder's, recently launched, Haven 12 1/2 which was moored in Dutch Harbor at Jamestown. We drove across that big bridge in your video and sailed in his Haven, by that light house and bell buoy, around Dutch Island and into Narragansett Bay. This was all on the very day before Hurricane Henri hit that area. We also then, went up to Bristol and went through the Herreshoff Museum, which I pray you had the opportunity to do. Several months later I launched my own Haven build back here in Missouri and thankfully she sailed just like my friend's in R.I. Thank you for this video. brought back some fun memories.

Well done for the award - richly deserved. If you think that 9:35 is close, don't ever sail in the UK Solent especially during Cowes Week.

They are new.... busy harbors, and sailing with friends on other boats will shrink their concept of close.
one thing I made sure to do with a green sailor, was have them take their boat straight at a wall, just because they mentioned it was close. Quick and brutal method to adjust that concept of closeness.
that said, always give others as much room as you can, plenty of water out there for all of us.

Best in Show! Wow; you deserve it and much, much more! Congrats to one and all, but mostly to Steve. Bob deserves some credit too, the final shot with all the ugly rubber ducklings lined up with a real nice tender at the end says it all.

When Steve won the award at the boat show it had to be an emotional moment ; after years of building the boat literally piece by piece . Hat off Steve and his great crew that made the whole experience so amazing . Cheers from San Diego
