No matter what happens, ultimately everything ends with minor pentatonic shredding 😅
It just works!
And we love it ☺️
Hi Paul
you don't know what you're talking about...oh wait 😳
Had a bowl of cornflakes this morning, Surely enough i was ripping into those little crispy flakes with minor pentatonic licks and a little dance
This guy personifies pure musical joy. And he transmits that same contagious joy to his listeners. Like a musical virus whose only symptoms are second-hand guitar faces and a total, systemic numbness. Unbelievable.
Jason Mraz is another artist who just has a ton of joy in every one of this song, and many sound like a jam session, such a great vibe to them. His live stuff is excellent.
@@TheTommyCraft Definitely appreciate Mraz's songwriting, he's got some beautiful songs. But I'm sure you'll agree with me in saying the subtly juxtaposed combination of Mayer's voice, lyrics and guitar chops just... works. A beautiful, complimentary trifecta of talents that you just don't get from most artists these days.
Tell me you’re an infectious disease doctor without telling me you’re an infectious disease doctor
@@tomtankengine0 I concur that Mayer is the better artist, no doubt. I was just pointing out that pure joy of expression, jubilance of having fun is consistently in Mraz’s music as well. It isn’t anywhere near as technically accomplished, but you can’t help but hear the fun Mraz and his band is having and a lot of his music lifts your spirit regardless.
Mayer is another level though, no doubt.
@@TheTommyCraft My bad, I misinterpreted your comment completely. It has become so easy to assume people are just sparking 'Mayer vs XYZ' arguments these days! Mayer, Mraz and Jack Johnson are all in a similar, 'warm-hug' kind of vein.
His pure joy in his face during that beautiful solo. Legend.
This is spiritual
All time Favorite from John Mayer. He's one of the Greatest Guitarist I've ever heard. He's got it going on and is freaking GORGEOUS 🥰😅
The band is chefs kiss 🤌💋
love how he gets lost in the music when he plays , shuts his eyes and the magic begins
The ballad version is poetic, inspiring and truer to the truth of his words. Johnny’s music evolves in every re creation. Into something sublime.
Thanks belove 🥰 hope you won't stop listening to my music
It’s just insane how beautiful his music is
Ahh he is so good!!! I d like to see him and Joe Bonamassa together on same stage. !!
Huh, I'll have to really listen to this a few times.
I did enjoy watching you play. It's been a while.
Thanks, John Clayton. ✌🏻💙

Killer! Soulful! You uncovered a new essence to the song. #WellPlayed
Funny, how İ somehow come across your songs just about around similar stages of my life where i keep going around.and a familiar cord is touched each time where i find myself as if back on square one with a different yet similar taste... A nonsense could have only made a sense like this.

I would love to see you do a duet with Susan Tedeschi!!
Hello Bev
I agree with you, indeed John Mayer is a great and
talented artist who's songs never goes out of style,
he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and
always heals the Soul…
Great 80s ballad !
Deff can hear the tone diff from his fender to this , step down imo but hey, he likes it
damn straight, i fell so hard when I heard gravity for the first time and then the rest of continuum. I have a couple tattoos that I connected with so much so I see them all the time and they are still in most meaningful to me
helped me the mos I was with a very Mentally emotionally abusive person for 17 years I thought that was how was going to be forever it took some time But I finally left and got divorced took more time to heal and love myself again and I know John Mayer does not know how he’s helped me so much to have the courage and the wanting to be happy again and he still does his music is beautiful and connects with so many people, and usually good people the bad people not so much, like I had that were bad in my life do not like John much so they lost out I won and this song last train is probably the most beautiful intro acoustically that I’ve ever heard except one exception if you ever watched John Mayer on his own on RUclips it was a concert and the intro to hummingbird is on my loop and I’ve listen to it and slept to it a lot of times and I have it looped just for that intro because it’s that beautiful I use it to calm down when I have anxiety I listen to mostly acoustically when I’m feeling anxiety and when I’m feeling good I get to listen to the best guitar player in my life probably in a lot of generations and I get happy and I dance and I sing and I love his blues I love it hard and I love it soft, his music will always be part of my life I know what I’m watching and he is the best I’ve ever seen and or heard and I feel so lucky that he stuck with it and as his fans we’ve all watched him come so far from the beginning I love as much as I love what he plays now. You know how he always says thank you after every song in every concert I’ve always wanted to tell him NO, thank you for helping me get through life ❤❤🎉
😮 👍🏼
Is that the SE he's playing?
This song makes me want to go home to my wife and dance with her, but I can't dance and I'm not married.
Well said!! 😂😂
😂
😂❤
LOLOLOLOLOLLLLL😅
Feel you Sir 🗿🙂
The older he gets the more soulful he gets. Constantly improving....respect.
He’s the gift that keeps on giving. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Sob Rock is my most revisited album this year. I've played it during a hard days work, long hours on the road travelling to site, late nights and early morning, ive played it in the bedroom, I've played it for my parents, friends and co workers. The production is like a warm blanket and wild blue gets me everytime.
Hearing Sob Rock on his tour next year will be breathtaking!
Exactly the same, it’s sooo comforting ❤️
Yup 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Well said! It's definitely my most listened to album this year by far. It's incredible, and the production is absolutely stunning. 👍
i completely agree. this album has been everywhere with me. so many experiences and memories with these songs. it never gets old. always find myself reflecting on life and growing more every time I listen to it. i think john mayer is one of the modern GOATS. people that bag on him know nothing, and are probably living in the shadow. we all have to go through it.
I knew this record was going to be special when John grew out his hair like he did for Continuum and Born & Raised.
Months into it, we're still getting releases. Sob Rock is the gift that keeps on giving.
Aye lmao I'm subbed to you, you're a true fan ❤️
I hear you, but it can't be just his hair! He stole the color of my Staggocaster! I demand a rematch.
Yeah lol, nice hair leads to great art....🙄😬
@@danrebolledo8385 no talent does but he's just saying that because continuum was arguably his best album and he had long hair for that one
@@ChilliCasperCorbett that's a great record by any definition. And while it changed a lot of people into Mayer fans and produced a couple classics, Room for Squares changed music (short hair) 🤷♂️
Feels like he made this version just to jam out during the closing solo
hey man can you blame him?
@@brandonh1977 nah i’m thanking him
I read this as “closet solo” and now all I can picture is him playing guitar in a closet.
lol - for sure!!!
@@lisamiller4096 He's a deeply closeted soloist
Any version of a John Mayer song that has an extended guitar solo section is a version I'm excited to hear 🤩
I feel like each times he performs live he never play the same version of the same song
That’s what his love shows are like! Plays the song with an extended guitar solo. I remember hearing him say that he takes that into account when writing a song

Fantastic band & incredible performance! And John, you sing, play guitar so sweet!! So happy to hear this!!
Hi Tomo, good to see you here. Have a blessed day.

Is it just me or does he just keep getting better and better? I used to be like “I wish he’d do more albums like Continuum”…but now I’ve realized JM gonna follow his own vision and man am I glad he has because he’s a one of a kind talent.
that " do more like Continuum and now i realized ..... " same thought... and it is absolutely true
I think the diversity of his albums is what makes him so special. Not many artists have the guts to experiment with different sounds like he does.
@@sicboi I hope John sticks to the thought of loving melodic songs, but you could be right and he might experiment in the jazz direction one day.
Srsly man.. i didn’t know that his guitar playing even can get improved more, because he has been a master player for last decade. And now i’m like.. wow.. that touch
I am glad he went a different way with any album, continuum remains one of my favorites, but sob rock CD is staying in my car whenever I need some good 80s sound
He’s phenomenal. While I agree the solo is beautiful; I’ve never once heard a John Mayer solo that wasn’t breathtaking. That said, I’m mesmerized by the intro on this song. There’s just something about it that I can’t put my finger on, but it’s soul deep ❤️
Amen.

You know it’s a brilliantly written song when the lyrics hit harder the slower the song is. God bless you John Mayer, this version sent me places ✌🏼♥️

It goes to show that guitarist will jump in and play on ANYTHING
The guitar can.
Agreed. This version is definitely better than the original, which I can't listen to because it sounds like Africa.
Mary Spender
Best musician of our generation, that guitar solo was breathtaking!
Is it just me or did he just reinvented a signature riff that he also used in Ryan Adams' song, F*** the Rain? It's just so good
I always thought it lacked a solo. Now it is done 👌🏾👌🏾
AGREED!
Seen him live a few times and I get chills everything he goes in to the zone with these solos
Mayer used put importance on originality. Now hes just regurgitating a whole decade of boring ideas. I bet the 80s sound is pretty neat to fresh ears. But to the rest of us it's a thousand wrong turns that led to the most excessive decade in the record business.
That solo has almost no relationship to the song other than being mostly in key...typical 80's 🤷♂️. Hes John Mayer, his bends shouldnt bush league....
I'm 68 years old and thought I have heard it all. But this one really touched me in ways that no other has before. What an incredibly beautiful song, and the blues riff is one of the finest.
I'm with ya my man. Reminds a lot of _"Prince."_ ei Were he still alive I could 100% see him singing performing this song. The guitar similarities are uncanny, the way on occasion you can't distinguish it from his voice (or vice versa) as they both convey so much raw emotion that's chaotic, almost pleading, but somehow still under control.
@@crzyces1693 Nothing like Prince at all. What are you talking about? Lol.
Hey I'm 80 and I'm with you all the way on this. I think his best song ever is Gravity, and I've listened to various renditions of it probably a hundred times or more, but this guy is really special and this song made me tear up the first time I heard it not even halfway into it. Thanks for posting, I'm glad to know I'm not the only person into senior citizenship who thinks this guy and this rendition are bleeping AWESOME!
Mayer somehow somewhere manages to make atleast one really good stand-out track in his albums. I believe it's the most difficult things to do when you're sort of confined to one genre.

John Mayer is the kind of artist that writes and plays a song that makes you think "there is NO way this song could get better, it's just THAT good"... then he releases something like this & can hit you with a whole different set of feels. Those electric solos ughhhh 🤯 🙌 🙌
Can we all stop for a minute and actually appreciate how Johnny stepped up his voice game?
That ending solo is what makes a John Mayer concert legendary. I swear he sounds better live instead of any album. 🔥
Can’t wait to see him live for the first time in Toronto in 2022! I was going to go to the 2019 show but decided against it and then covid hit - I said to myself I was going to the next show whenever it was.

He's got to be proud of what he's done vocally over the last few decades. People always drool over the guitar but the steeper obstacle in his career was the vocal training.
In my opinion his vocal work is better now than it has ever been. And that's even after losing 2 or 3 notes in his upper falsetto range, post vocal surgery. He has gotten away from the throat whisper thing he did his first 2 or 3 albums and he sounds better for it.

Hello 👋 Thanks to you all I call my fans, I appreciate all the support and love you have been given to me all this years you all made me whom I am today I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your kind gesture towards me and am most grateful to have you as my fan...❤❤
Every Mayer-fan knows that he dropped this version just so he could sqeeze in this amazing solo... cause that was missing in the first one!
Thanks tho 🥰 hope you won't stop listening to my music
I agree with you, indeed John Mayer is a great and
talented artist who's songs never goes out of style,
he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and
always heals the Soul…
This is my all time fave John Mayer song. The passion he has playing it's just so beautiful. Takes you deep and far away as music should. Just soulful❤
I was so excited to learn that John was doing a ballad version of “Last Train Home” as we all know this track was totally 80’s inspired, and what better defined the 80’s than the power ballads, from Giant to Van Halen and everyone in between. This version folded back more depth and revealed a much deeper intimacy to the song that I absolutely love, you feel and see John putting his heart on his sleeve so to speak while singing. On a final note as I backtrack to my comment about the 80’s power ballads, their is one in particular that stuck out to me while listening, so in 1984 Paul McCartney released a film called “Give My Regards To Broad Street” which if you’re any kind of McCartney fan you’ll appreciate the movie even though it was cheesy and really didn’t have much of a story, but anyway there was a single that came from the movie called “No More Lonely Nights” in which the ballad version made its way on the radio waves back in the day, but the song is used throughout the movie as an instrumental, all the way to a dance version at the end of the film, but in this case the reason why it struck a “chord” with me, (sorry had to put some guitar humor in there) is because John’s playing especially the lead reminds me of the lead David Gilmour played on the McCartney song, very similar washes of delay and chorus effects in the guitar and a touch of similar style of playing. So with this direction John took with song sounded more like McCartney’s song rather than Toto’s song which here is a fun fact, two members of Toto performed in the McCartney movie which was Steve Lukather and Jeff Porcarro, who were the guitarist and drummer for Toto, in which case they did an updated version of the classic hit “Silly Love Songs” which is incredible you should check it out for sure! But to wrap this up yes I love this version also for different reasons, and that’s what I love about the complete genius of John’s musicianship he’s always reaching for that next thing he didn’t know he had yet! Love the song and hope you will enjoy this ballad version of “Last Train Home”! God bless!!!
I got the same vibes of no more lonely night as well!!!
Really from Abba to ZZ-Top
This really does sound like the solo in "No More Lonely Nights!" Great 80s vibe here. I'm a big fan of McCartney and John Mayer too so it was fun to see someone point out this similarity!
I got them Toto vibes for sure
Just when I didn’t think it could get any more 80s, somehow you did it. This song is a treasure and it just keeps on giving. Thank you for sharing your art with us!
there’s something magical that occurs whenever john plays his guitar…it’s impeccable and unexplainable after all these years ✨
This is exactly how music should make you feel.
If you haven’t seen him live…
I’d tell you please save some money.
The way you’ll feel there has no price.
It’s insane the emotions you will go through.
And if you think he’s a beast on the solos…
Oh boy oh boy .. you HAVE NO IDEA what’s in store for you live.
Go live it!!!
I tried but he cancelled all of florida
Dude I chased him back to back in 2013 saw him 3 times that summer, after coming out of the pause year for his throat surgery and got to hear, born and raised plus paradise valley.
I scored a state fair ticket just so I could be as close to the stage as possible. I have a huge problem with not being close to the stage just annoys me being in seats plus constrained but the state fair I got standing tickets and literally was one of my favorite concerts ever.
It's hard to convey what it's like seeing him live it seriously is. I'm just glad I've seen him 5 times but should have over the last 20 years seen him like 40 times plus had gone on the mayer curiseship.
@@ryan0150 why’d he cancel Florida?
Agreed! I just saw him in LA a few days ago and my god was that show special. Like you said, you will go through so many emotions and every bit of time and money to be there is worth it
He was being very spontaneous in Denver. He emotes more than many players I've seen live. And his band is top-notch. I'm just happy to be alive at the same time he's here.
The passion this man has for his art is on a Godly level. John never fails to deliver period! 💯 😍
I HAVE NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE THAT SOLO. JOHN SPOKE WITHOUT SPEAKING. ABSOLUTELY HEAVENLY.
I love the image of everyone warming up in the studio and getting ready. John just walks up, says nothing, straps on his pink PRS and lays down this track in one take like a boss.
Most likely it's not even too far away from the truth
See if you can spot the bum note.
There is quite a bit of editing there. What makes you think it was only one take?
This man knows how exactly to do it!! Gotta love him!
Hello how are you doing it’s nice meeting you here
Biggest problem with this version is it wasn’t long enough!!! Could have easily listened to 10 straight minutes of that. Well done John… well done
True that
Real John Mayer fans who've seen him live would know this solo was super organic and he actually must have played it at one go. This is what happens when you leave good musicians inside a studio and do not overproduce. ❤
Hi to
Oldies but goodies
Yes he told that it was a one taker! Incredible musicians ❤️
Best concert I've ever been to, Stockholm 2019. Absolutely unmatched with everything i have been to.
💯. Twice I’ve had the pleasure.
Man he was in the zone during that solo, quite a talent John Mayer playing the guitar.
Man, this hits me so hard. It feels nostalgic yet modern and real.
One of my favourite corners in the internet is a John Mayer comment section! The support and love for what he does so incredibly well warms my heart! I love this community so much! ⭐
Thanks for your kindness and support
How are you doing ??
Same!! 😍
This is gonna hit right in the feels
One year later, and there's been not a single day I didn't listen to this phenomenal song !
No kidding. This is pure magic.
Esta nueva versión da una vibra diferente, y es magnífica como siempre es la música de Mayer.
