That pink guitar looks the same one that given to Blackpink Rose as a gift from John Mayer.. (not sure tough if exactly same thing as seen this video or just same model.. )
I don’t care what anyone says, John Mayer is one of my favorite musicians of all time. I mean his level of musicality is out of this world. It’s almost abnormal. I appreciate his mastery so much and hope to finally see him live someday. ❤

Dude I chased him back to back in 2013 saw him 3 times that summer, after coming out of the pause year for his throat surgery and got to hear, born and raised plus paradise valley. I scored a state fair ticket just so I could be as close to the stage as possible. I have a huge problem with not being close to the stage just annoys me being in seats plus constrained but the state fair I got standing tickets and literally was one of my favorite concerts ever. It's hard to convey what it's like seeing him live it seriously is. I'm just glad I've seen him 5 times but should have over the last 20 years seen him like 40 times plus had gone on the mayer curiseship.
Agreed! I just saw him in LA a few days ago and my god was that show special. Like you said, you will go through so many emotions and every bit of time and money to be there is worth it
He was being very spontaneous in Denver. He emotes more than many players I've seen live. And his band is top-notch. I'm just happy to be alive at the same time he's here.

Just when I didn’t think it could get any more 80s, somehow you did it. This song is a treasure and it just keeps on giving. Thank you for sharing your art with us!
One of my favourite corners in the internet is a John Mayer comment section! The support and love for what he does so incredibly well warms my heart! I love this community so much! ⭐
😂 it’s because he’s basically doing an impersonation of an album from the 80s. Listen to some Springsteen and Phil Collins and then Bon Iver Bin Iver from like 15 years ago. I mean this is a good JM song but he’s very obviously and deliberately (he’s fairly self-aware) standing on the heads of giants. Don’t get it twisted. He’s kinda always got a schtick in an “I know I’m an asshole” kinda way. I actually like this vibe for once. But it’s nothing new, this vibe is as old as him.
I was so excited to learn that John was doing a ballad version of “Last Train Home” as we all know this track was totally 80’s inspired, and what better defined the 80’s than the power ballads, from Giant to Van Halen and everyone in between. This version folded back more depth and revealed a much deeper intimacy to the song that I absolutely love, you feel and see John putting his heart on his sleeve so to speak while singing. On a final note as I backtrack to my comment about the 80’s power ballads, their is one in particular that stuck out to me while listening, so in 1984 Paul McCartney released a film called “Give My Regards To Broad Street” which if you’re any kind of McCartney fan you’ll appreciate the movie even though it was cheesy and really didn’t have much of a story, but anyway there was a single that came from the movie called “No More Lonely Nights” in which the ballad version made its way on the radio waves back in the day, but the song is used throughout the movie as an instrumental, all the way to a dance version at the end of the film, but in this case the reason why it struck a “chord” with me, (sorry had to put some guitar humor in there) is because John’s playing especially the lead reminds me of the lead David Gilmour played on the McCartney song, very similar washes of delay and chorus effects in the guitar and a touch of similar style of playing. So with this direction John took with song sounded more like McCartney’s song rather than Toto’s song which here is a fun fact, two members of Toto performed in the McCartney movie which was Steve Lukather and Jeff Porcarro, who were the guitarist and drummer for Toto, in which case they did an updated version of the classic hit “Silly Love Songs” which is incredible you should check it out for sure! But to wrap this up yes I love this version also for different reasons, and that’s what I love about the complete genius of John’s musicianship he’s always reaching for that next thing he didn’t know he had yet! Love the song and hope you will enjoy this ballad version of “Last Train Home”! God bless!!!
This really does sound like the solo in "No More Lonely Nights!" Great 80s vibe here. I'm a big fan of McCartney and John Mayer too so it was fun to see someone point out this similarity!
Never ever have I seen John smile with sheer joy as he did at the end of the video, he was really pleased with himself. This version is a masterpiece. The guitar solo is unforgettable

I haven't listened to an entire album of his for a long time, but a single track is enough to remind me of how beautiful his music is and how much I want to listen to many of his songs.
How do you define "craziest"? If this solo, with its unlimited amount of feel and soul, isn't crazy, then I'm sorry to say it, but you have a warped understanding of the term "crazy" from a musical perspective. This is crazy in its purest form.
I agree. The runs aren't crazy super long or intricate. But Mayer almost always builds a solo to the best that solo can be. Atleast for me, its about the feeling Mayer leaves me with after a solo like this one. He plays in an almost vocal manner and my brain loves that shit. I'm aware you weren't bashing Mayer lol, you'd have to be ignorant not to acknowledge his talent and ability. Just stating my two cents i guess.
I find it wonderful how the rhythm section gives space for the song to literally unwind itself. They never over-play and keep the energy going from beginning to end, which for a song like that needs a ton of groove and "pocket". (And they don't "give" everything too fast). First class act guys ! It give John the space to be "in the song". True professionals ! It makes the great performance of John even better !

This is beautiful. One thing I've noticed as to why his soloing is so good and soulful, he comes up with melodies to sing that would flow well over the track and "transcribes" them in real time @3:59 as an example.
I love how John is one with his music. When he plays the guitar it is so intimate. Just him there. And I love how he will “sing” the guitar parts; Like giving them words.

This song understands you've had a long stressful day. It knows what you're going through. It's here for you. Take it in. Breathe it in. Let go.
Can we all stop for a minute and actually appreciate how Johnny stepped up his voice game?
This version makes the lyrics hit in a different way. Absolutely gorgeous. A masterful performance.
He makes the guitar sing like a human voice. And his vocals have greatly improved
Can we take a short minute here to talk about the amazing vintage synths Greg Phillinganes is playing? Such warmth in the tone!
I agree! Do you know which ones he's using? :D
That setup is #goals
They make this song for me. Love the sound. Feels like the ending of a great 80s movie.

It’s amazing how much just slowing things down and making it a little more vibey transformed this already awesome song 😌🤙🏽
Indeed.

2 years later, still back. Still listening. Still vibing. I love the intensity. It’s like John has a compulsive passion within him to play, and almost can’t bring himself to stop. It’s so contagious. As much as he keeps going, I’m compelled to be here for it. ❤
There is an aura from this song even watching it on here that reminds me of the feeling one gets seeing John live. It envelops; warmth; comfort; a palpable sound. And then, John lifts the cozy blanket and leads us from comfort to pure joy with the outro. Slow. Clap. Mr. Mayer.
what an excellent comment of yours! Thanks.

This man. Those feelings. That music. My God...
He’s phenomenal. While I agree the solo is beautiful; I’ve never once heard a John Mayer solo that wasn’t breathtaking. That said, I’m mesmerized by the intro on this song. There’s just something about it that I can’t put my finger on, but it’s soul deep ❤️

Modern music is a shit.
Last time a modern song felt so timeless ? Maybe- " Gravity " ?
this isn't really modern. Song could have been made and performed in the 1980s. It's great though both the original and this slower version :)

@@johnmayer1918 this version of this song is the only video I’ve watched for the last 48 hours. Thank you 🙏
I love the image of everyone warming up in the studio and getting ready. John just walks up, says nothing, straps on his pink PRS and lays down this track in one take like a boss.
Most likely it's not even too far away from the truth
See if you can spot the bum note.
There is quite a bit of editing there. What makes you think it was only one take?
Just amazing🥺 and that pink guitar...😌
Never thought the rug lady I like to watch would be here
That pink guitar looks the same one that given to Blackpink Rose as a gift from John Mayer.. (not sure tough if exactly same thing as seen this video or just same model.. )

Man, this hits me so hard. It feels nostalgic yet modern and real.
I don’t care what anyone says, John Mayer is one of my favorite musicians of all time. I mean his level of musicality is out of this world. It’s almost abnormal. I appreciate his mastery so much and hope to finally see him live someday. ❤
If you haven’t seen him live…
I’d tell you please save some money.
The way you’ll feel there has no price.
It’s insane the emotions you will go through.
And if you think he’s a beast on the solos…
Oh boy oh boy .. you HAVE NO IDEA what’s in store for you live.
Go live it!!!
I tried but he cancelled all of florida
@@ryan0150 why’d he cancel Florida?

Souls needed to hear this! 🙏🏾♥️🙏🏾
This is exactly how music should make you feel.
There’s so much 80s - 90s vibe in that solo intro. Love it.
I get 50s - 60s blues vibes with this solo of Johns. It's his command of the major pentatonic that does it for me here.
2yrs, and THE WAY this song STILL makes me feel
Mr. Mayer, well done, thou good and faithful servant.
A guitar solo that makes you literally cry. John you’re on a league of your own, an absolute master on your craft. What a privilege it’s been ❤️
A lot of people are probably going crazy for that amazing solo, but I tear up at the intro and start of the first verse (first 90 secs...ish). Feels like some one transcribed my soul straight to music. Phenomenal work by John and all musicians involved 🔥
Beautifully written
Every time, that intro gives me goosies on my cheeks 😊 his sound moves me like no other. “Not myself” way back when, was the first time I didn’t feel alone. And ever since my heart fiends for his sound ❤

Go for it!!! All the best to you!! Keep it real! Stay humble!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I hear you, in college all I listen to was John mayor burning room song 😁😁✊🏿😂
I got the same vibes of no more lonely night as well!!!
Really from Abba to ZZ-Top
This really does sound like the solo in "No More Lonely Nights!" Great 80s vibe here. I'm a big fan of McCartney and John Mayer too so it was fun to see someone point out this similarity!
I got them Toto vibes for sure
Never ever have I seen John smile with sheer joy as he did at the end of the video, he was really pleased with himself. This version is a masterpiece. The guitar solo is unforgettable
as an old 80's club singer, I tremble at John's guitar work. It's really another vocal presence.
How I miss musicianship like this.

Awesome song. Thanks for existing John 🔥
The slow down is so beautiful
His guitar solo runs aren’t the craziest, but they just seem to do it. So mush soul in his playing, and that's what makes him the best at it.
How do you define "craziest"? If this solo, with its unlimited amount of feel and soul, isn't crazy, then I'm sorry to say it, but you have a warped understanding of the term "crazy" from a musical perspective. This is crazy in its purest form.
@@alebo0 lol shut up if u don’t get what i mean.
@@ronaldmckee7542 perfectly said.
He leaves such a tasteful amount of breathing space, and makes every note count. His outros always remind me of a Houston/Dion/Carey-type crescendo.

I always enjoy what you share on here but I never got the chance to say Hello 👋
I find it wonderful how the rhythm section gives space for the song to literally unwind itself. They never over-play and keep the energy going from beginning to end, which for a song like that needs a ton of groove and "pocket". (And they don't "give" everything too fast). First class act guys ! It give John the space to be "in the song". True professionals ! It makes the great performance of John even better !
Absolutely, his band are wonderful.
Hands down. Best guitar player from when he began till now. Huzzah Johnny 🌟💫🌟
I like that "groove & pocket" aspect!

People are talking about the solo, but my god the chord changes have so much breathing space here. Feels like I am sipping on a smoothie for ever.

Real John Mayer fans who've seen him live would know this solo was super organic and he actually must have played it at one go. This is what happens when you leave good musicians inside a studio and do not overproduce. ❤

His pure joy in his face during that beautiful solo. Legend.
The level of emotion that John plays with is unparalleled, it truly makes him so uniquely special
Perfection. I can feel it down to my toes. Tears down your face good.
