For this project, we used:
SWD-1501 Machine
2 sheets of thick cutaway stabilizers
F hoop
75 /11 needle
40 weight thread
This eye-catching portrait embroidery project is a fantastic product to provide to your customers and stand out from other apparel decorators.
Now let's discuss profit potential.
This project brings in more money than others because the SWD-1501's 8S panel automatically digitizes files in JPEG or JPG format. So, you don't have to pay for a digitizer.
We bought one yard of the stabilizer at a fabric store for $5, but you could probably get it cheaper if you buy it wholesale. This portrait that we are doing can be sold for $50 and up, but because portrait embroidery is such a specialty item, you can price it however you want.
If we sell this portrait for $50 and only invest about $6 for paper and thread, you're looking at a $44 profit.
Now, let’s go over the steps...
The first step is to insert the USB into the machine and select the file with the design. Then, press Save to save the file to the machine's memory. Remember, the file needs to be either a JPEG or JPG. Now go to the machine's memory, find the file and click on the checkmark. Once the machine has recognized the file and opened it, change the embroidery size to 300, press Enter, and then the panel will auto digitize it. Then, press the checkmark, and it should automatically take you to the home screen.
Next, you'll want to center the design using the arrow keys. If the design doesn't fit in its current orientation, then you should flip it by 90 degrees. After the design is centered, lock the machine, and enter the embroidery status. Our next step is to choose the colors. When selecting the colors, they should be in this order: yellow, red, blue, and black. Now press the checkmark button, and we will now trace the design. Once you do all of that, the machine is pretty much ready to start your portrait embroidery; this design is 367,000 stitches and we'll be running it at 1,000 stitches per minute. Once you're ready, press the Start button.
After the machine finishes embroidering, all you have to do is take the portrait out, cut around it, and put it in whichever frame you like.
And there you have it! That's how you create a photorealistic design using the SWD-1501's 8S panel. This a unique product that will keep customers coming back for more and, as a result, generate more revenue for your custom apparel business.

Just Invested in the TC 15. Did not know there was a machine with Auto Digitizing! I am waiting on my new investment! This module suggested to me as a new Embroiderer! Still exited thought! . Even thought it does not apply to me. Thank s for sharing.

amazing! I have the same machine... can I use this feature to make smaller pictures as well? what minimum size would you recommend?
Yes you can! It comes with multiple hoop sizes for a variety of embroidery needs.
This is a great tutorial. i have a question regarding matching the Yellow- Red - Blue - black Sequence input on the machine. as it refers to the thread colors you have on the machine. I see that Number 3 is not the yellow cone and black or the others are not on the specified cone position.. do they have to match or it pretty much takes any Y-R-C-B cones we specify?
It takes any cones you specify!
@@ricomatv that is exactly my point. I thought you would assign Yellow- Red - Blue - black matching the numbers where those color threads that are on the machine to the panel.. (Put yellow thread on pole 1 and assigned number one on the panel. What willy did was different,. I am still not understanding the procedure of thread assignmet !! (:
What an awesome video Willy. Can we use the Chroma software to make thus on the EM model? Is this SWD new to Ricoma?
The SWD was launched a bit over a year ago actually! You can definitely manually digitize a picture using a digitizing software like Chroma but the auto digitizing function for pictures is only available on the 8S panel which the SWD models are equipped with

Yes only the SWD-1501-8S has the new 8S panel, and this portrait embroidery feature is only available on the 8S panel
Great video it would be really nice if you guys can add that feature on a future firmware update for all other machines like the TC-1501

There will be other models in the future with panels that have this feature but models already manufactured can’t be retrofitted with an 8S panel

The EM-1010 won’t be able to auto digitize portraits and pictures since this feature is only available on the 8S panel which the SWD is equipped with.

You wouldn't be able to, it's just a fill stitch
so it is just load jpeg run cymk and will work ? no need to color preperation in cs or like sw ?

My SWD 1501 only will recognize DST on the USB. How do you make it see the JPG or JPEG?

I ordered a MT 1502 and am waiting delivery. I was watching the video here and thought that was what I bought. Unfortunately it wasn't. I wish the salesman had offered this machine. I would have gone that route since that is what I am expanding my business to include (framed embroidery Photos) The one I bought software and all was $23000
Can the MT1501 do the same at reading jpeg?
This feature is only available on the 8s panel. Unfortunately, the MT-1501 has a 7s panel.
