If you’re looking for help with digitizing and embroidering small letters on caps, you’ve come to the right place. Here are four crucial tips that will help you master small lettering:
Give your letters space. If you digitize your letters too close together, the details will be hard to make out. Giving space between letters ensures that they will stand out and be seen clearly.
Remove the underlay. When it comes to small lettering, removing the underlay helps with common tension issues and prevents thread loops in your design. These loops are very hard to get rid of, and they occur because the thread doesn’t have enough time to adjust to the proper tension since the letter design is so short and small. Underlays are automatically added to anything you create in Chroma Luxe, so you’ll want to make sure you manually remove the underlay in your settings.
Adjust the push and pull compensation. You’re going to want to adjust your push and pull compensation to a higher percentage to help make your letters thicker and easier to see once it’s embroidered.
Adjust your density. If you’re using a Richardson 112 cap like Willy is, you’ll want to make sure that you set your density to 0.4 or 0.5. What you’re trying to do here is make sure that your letters are going to stick out on the structured fabric and not sink in.
Once you’re done digitizing, watch as Willy shows you how to properly center and trace your design on your cap. In addition, he’ll walk you through the all materials needed to make sure the small lettering on your caps comes out precise.

We use multiple machines, but this one is the MT-1501!

You can switch out the needle or set up one needle on your machine specifically for small lettering.

We recommend 600-700 for caps!
