Rocky and Gandalf give the best pep talks. Thinking of "So do all who live to see such times. But it is not for us to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you"
Fun Fact: At 17:40 Rocky is wearing a shirt that appears to say "Dempsey". Jack Dempsey was World Heavyweight Champion from 1919-1926. After his boxing career was over, he opened a popular bar & restaurant in New York, where he'd tell boxing stories to guests, just like Rocky in this movie. I believe Dempsey's restaurant appears in The Godfather, as it didn't close until 1974.
Boxing changed from 15 rounds to 12 rounds back in 1982 (WBC), 1987 (WBA), and 1988 (IBF), heavily pushed after the death of a Korean boxer Kim Duk-koo. Studies on his brain during the autopsy and subsequent analysis concluded that his brain had become more susceptible to damage after the 12th round. Exhibition matches choose how many rounds they want during the contract negotiations. and is primarily 3-8 rounds depending on the boxers/athletes but for some reason this movie chose 10. Sometimes in exhibition matches there is glove size changes to limit damage received (going from 12oz to 16 oz) as a larger glove weight has quite a bit more padding. Headgear can be used sometimes, as well as minimum amount of certified monitored training amounts (current minimum 12 weeks). Exhibition matches are usually a result of significant age differential, skill level, cross-over athletes from different sports, as well as charity events.
Let's give Addie a round of applause for officially completing the Rocky franchise. 👏👏🎉🎉 Happy Wednesday. The Rocky road now smoothes out with Rocky Balboa (2006). See you soon for Creed (2015).
I love how much these characters mean to you in the short time you've known them. It is a testimony to the storytelling, the heart, and the amazing job each of the actors did in these films. There are few movies that have ever impacted people like Rocky did...and the fact that he could do it in 6 films without fail is amazing. I have watched the Rocky films my whole life. I grew up with them. I saw a few in the theater. And I am now nearing 50 and still cry when I watch these movies!
I love that they gave Rocky a restaurant. Because Apollo, in the first movie during an interview with them both, said that if he can't fight, he can cook.
What I love most about this movie is that it brings the Rocky saga full circle. He started the first film as the underdog, going into a fight he didn't think he would win but only caring about still standing at the end of the fight. Then in subsequent films, he became heavyweight Champion and we saw him in his prime. But by this final film he is an older man, long retired from boxing - so again, he goes into the fight as the underdog and not really concerned with winning, but just about proving he can still do it. It finishes on the same note as the first film - he fought not for money or glory or a title, but to prove to himself that he has what it takes.
I think Rocky Balboa is either my third or fourth favorite Rocky movie. It feels a lot slower than the other five, but it has of heart, and I enjoyed it. I know there were plans for 7, but ending it with this one makes sense.
22:35 Yeah, Stallone switched to digital video cameras for the start of the final fight to really make it feel like a television broadcast of a real fight, good pick up on that aspect...
And it was shot during an actual HBO pay-per-view. I honestly wonder how Michael Buffer felt announcing an 'actual' Rocky bout. (He WAS in the fifth one but it was for Tommy Gunn/Union Cane, IIRC).
I like how Paulie and Rocky kind of switch roles with each other in this movie. Rocky was always there for Paulie and Paulie is there for Rocky during his hardest time in his life.
Hi Addie!😊 Regular boxing was changed from 15 rounds to 12 rounds in the 80s. This one definitely had a feeling of realism. The film is very grounded. Great reactions to this well made Rocky film, Addie!!!!🎬👏👏👏👏
YEAA Addie they waited until a real boxin match was over, and then filmed this in front of paying fans! the punches were pretty real and stallone got stunned a few times. Just an amazing finish to Rocky's boxing career
It is my great pleasure to watch people fall in love with these movies. I’m very excited for your go at the Creed movies. I hope we don’t have to wait too long. 😅
This is one of the few movies I saw in theaters that made me cry. The scene where he has it out with his son hit me so hard. When I was younger and hadn't figured things out quite yet my Dad had a conversation like that with me. I felt every word of that when I heard it.
To me the Rocky movies are not only about boxing. Its more than a love story but its about life. Life has it's up amd down but if you can keep moving forward then you a true champion
The three young girls seen running up the steps to the museum during the closing credits are Sylvester and his wife Jennifer's daughters Sofia, Sistine, and Scarlett Stallone.
I'm 70 and still working so I am encouraged seeing seniors still working hard to make a mark in the world. I'm not ready to make walking the dog my only chore in the day.
Rocky 1 to 6 is the biggest Love Story ever brought to the big screen. Everything revolves around Adrian. Even in this one, where she's not even alive.
Hi Addie ! I grew up in the 80's and 90's, watching Rocky 3 and 4 multiple times (the first times being essentially because one of my brother was very much into martial arts and fighting movies). I actually only discovered #1 and #2 in the late 90's, early 2000's, as I entered adulthood. And it was a good thing cause I'm pretty sure the child or teenage me wouldn't have liked them. But , though I'm not considering myself as a fan, I grew attached to the characters. So when it came out, this last "Rocky" movie was actually the first and only one I went see in theater. The little speech of the young commentator, about how he grew up watching Rocky's match on TV, and doesn't believe he can actually comment one of them, was actually kinda how I feel in the theater. It was kinda unbelievable for me that I could actually discover a Rocky movie, such a monument in the cinema history, in theater.
When you were watching Rocky V and hoped nothing would happen to Adrian, i was like "wait for it missy" and worst of all is that it gets you at the very beginning of the movie
I like that Rocky doesn't react to the taunts and challenges at him. Only when they insult little Marie does he get out of the car to make the guy apologize.
The fight was recorded on a real fight night in Las Vegas. The told the crowd to stay around after the last actual fight but didn't tell them why until right before
18:22 The last time Rocky was with trainer Tony "Duke" Evers was in 1985 per the series' timeline. Here we are over 20 years later and he just shows up out of nowhere. It's never mentioned what he's been up to for the last two decades.
Great reaction Addie! Adrian was the movie. From his daily cemetary visits, the restaurant name, talking about her to others, and her picture the night before the fight. The "beast inside" is what is usually called "the killer instinct". Rocky had a hard time accepting that he had the killer instinct passion to fight that he had in his youth - but he didn't have the physical tools to fight anymore. The exhibition fight drained the beast out of his system, the applause made him feel relevant and gave him closure with his boxing career. React to Stallone in "Nighthawks" (1981) - THEE MOST UNDERRATED COP MOVIE OF ALL TIME! Fighting international terrorism in America 20 years before 9-11-2001.
My take on the series as a whole is that it's the story of 5 broken people, each dealing with things in different ways. Rocky, with his compassion, picks up all the pieces and makes a beautiful mosaic.
It always warms my heart when I see people end up loving this series. Especially if they aren't fans of sports or boxing (I'm not and I love them too). I love seeing how much these characters end up meaning to them and especially how many tears are shed along the way. :) I think a few reactors would probably end up listing Rocky and Adrian as their favourite movie couple.
For those who do not remember this is exactly the way the first one ended. Rocky did not care about winning but only "going the distance" which he did, BRAVO
For those that didn't make the connection, Spider Rico, is the boxer that Rocky fought in the opening scene of the first film. It echoes the relationship between boxers of the past, such as when Max Schmeling fought Joe Louis in 1938. Max Schmeling was German, and after the fight he was shunned by the Nazi party. Max's promoter was Jewish. During the war, he helped two Jewish children survive by hiding them in his basement. He went on to become a successful business man and kept a friendship with Joe Louis, even helping him financially when he fell on hard times. When Joe Louis died in 1981, Max paid for Joe's funeral.
"Lemme tell you something you already know... the world ain't all sunshine and rainbows... it's a very mean and nasty place. And I don't care how tough you are, it'll beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life! But it ain't about how hard you hit... it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward! How much you can take, and keep moving forward! That's how winning is done! Now if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth! But you gotta be willing to take the hits! And not pointing fingers saying, 'I'm not where I wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain't you! You're better than that!" I know that speech like the back of my hand. The day I heard that speech, it stayed with me my entire life. To this day I think it's one of the best speeches in cinematic history. So glad you finally got to this movie and THAT scene Addie! Keep on punching!
Loved your reaction Addie. I had a hard time watching this movie as my father felt the same loss when my mother died. I know with today's societies view on men and women. My father loved my mother with all his heart and loved every part of her and wanted her to achieve all her dreams. On her death bed (due to cancer) she told my dad he was her angel. When my mom passed the look on my dad's face. A strong and compassionate man was broken. It really hit me how much he loved her, and I feel that the way Rocky talked about Adrian.
This is such a beautiful callback to the first film, and a great completion to his journey over the course of the films. It obviously cannot work without the first, but still better than the other sequels in my opinion!
So I love the Rocky films I can quote “The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows” scene almost perfect. Anybody who’s been through rough times can find inspiration from these films. I find myself using several quotes on the rough days. “I’m a fighter” “Going in one more round when you don’t think you can, that makes all the difference in your life” “I didn’t hear not bell, one more round” “It ain’t about how hard you can hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward!” And of course “get up you son a b*tch, cause Mikey loves you”
This is my favorite. Getting older myself, this helps remind me you are never too old to do what you love. ❤ Great reaction looking forward to watching you watch Creed.
This was probably THE saddest of all the Rocky movies... but even though Adrian is not in the movie, Adrian's presence is still very prevalent. I still love this movie. I watch this the night it came out... the theater was quite, I had never seen grown men and kids crying. ❤ this movie.
Underrated movie, I always found it interesting that the judge who didn't want to give Rocky a boxing license here was also his lawyer in Rocky 5. if you get a chance check out the deleted scenes in Rocky Balboa 🥺🥹
Watching your journey with Rocky (and Popcorn in Bed’s journey) as two women who walked in with little interest and walking away so invested and connected with his character has been amazing to watch! Creed 1 and 2 are must-watches to complete Rocky’s story
This series may be about fighting but it leaves the audience fighting back tears and losing in some of them, but it aint how hard these movies, hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and still enjoy them for their messages.
The reason that fight looks so different -- like a real boxing match -- is because that is exactly what it was. That was no movie set, it was an HBO fight broadcast. Those commentators were real commentators, the announcer was real, the crowd was real. In the breaks between the real fights, they would run out to the ring and film a few scenes, then pause while the next real fight was going on, then film some more on the next break.
For me, this is the perfect ending for Rocky. If you go back to the first movie, he just wanted to go the distance; he didn't really care about winning. At the end he didn't pay any attention to the line judges. He just wanted Adrian, and lost the fight via split decision. In the final fight, he again just wanted to go the distance, and did (the broken hand was an excellent way for him to not get slaughtered in Round 2). He lost the fight via split decision, and again didn't even pay attention to the line judges. Rocky did what he set out to do. The parallels are strong. Little Marie was a way to connect to his past, and take the place of Adrian in terms of giving Rocky advice. I'm glad they didn't even try to make it a romantic relationship. Men & women can form deep non-romantic relationships with each other. Small spoiler: in the first two Creed movies, Rocky takes on the Mickey role for a new fighter. I've read he didn't appear in the third.

I read something that Rocky got bigger ovations than Taylor or Hopkins that night. The Rocky-Dixon press conference was shot right after the actual press conference.
For Ocean's 11 I read they shot their fight scene on Thursday night before the PPV (Saturday).
@@megafan2000 wow, that was so realistic to shoot
It's amazing that even w/o Adrian, "Rocky" is still a love story.
Rocky and Gandalf give the best pep talks.
Thinking of "So do all who live to see such times. But it is not for us to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you"
Also the boxer spider is also the guy rocky first fought in the first, in the run down arena.
I literally live by the sunshine and rainbows speech it's one of the best speeches I have ever heard in my life.
Same.i like the Braveheart it's our wits that makes us men
@@atomfallen2409 that's a good one too.🙂
Fun Fact: At 17:40 Rocky is wearing a shirt that appears to say "Dempsey".
"Yo Adrian we did it"
Boxing changed from 15 rounds to 12 rounds back in 1982 (WBC), 1987 (WBA), and 1988 (IBF), heavily pushed after the death of a Korean boxer Kim Duk-koo.
This movie and Rocky's speech to his son is incredible.
Spider was the first fighter Rocky fought in the first film.
Let's give Addie a round of applause for officially completing the Rocky franchise. 👏👏🎉🎉 Happy Wednesday. The Rocky road now smoothes out with Rocky Balboa (2006). See you soon for Creed (2015).
"What do you recommended?"
"It's all edible."
I've revisited this reaction about a dozen times now. This movie, combined with Addie's sincerity, is good therapy.
It’s so inspiring how for Rocky there’s always more to win in his internal battles than the ones in the ring.
Been laughing and crying with you through out all the Rocky movies. Kinda sad that it's over. Been a true pleasure! Thank you for the great reactions!
This proves that age is a number
I think Rocky Balboa is either my third or fourth favorite Rocky movie. It feels a lot slower than the other five, but it has of heart, and I enjoyed it. I know there were plans for 7, but ending it with this one makes sense.
Check out George Foremans comeback. It's kinda what Rockys was modeled after. Long retired, way heavier. But he still could hit a ton.
Only George Foreman was in his late 30s,not late 50s like Rocky is supposed to be here.
@@DanceySteveYNWA he was 45. And.he also won the championship which Rocky didn't. It was just modeled, after all.
So why it editing weird ?
I love this movie. It is my favorite of all the Rocky movies. Thank you for sharing this one with us, Addie. 🙂
Spyder Ricco was the very first fighter Rocky fights back in Rocky. Its cool they brought him back in this film.
Thank you, Addie. For watching these movies. Love you.
I like that Rocky doesn't react to the taunts and challenges at him. Only when they insult little Marie does he get out of the car to make the guy apologize.
Yo Addie you did it. It’s been a pleasure watching through the Rocky Universe with you.
The fight was recorded on a real fight night in Las Vegas. The told the crowd to stay around after the last actual fight but didn't tell them why until right before
The speech to his son, one of the best speeches in cinema ever.
It has been an absolute delight to watch you experience Rocky. ❤
He should have won an Oscar for this speech.
18:22 The last time Rocky was with trainer Tony "Duke" Evers was in 1985 per the series' timeline. Here we are over 20 years later and he just shows up out of nowhere. It's never mentioned what he's been up to for the last two decades.
training fighters not named rocky
@@SutekhDaSteemroller they should have said that. At least one line of dialogue would have been nice.
He was in Rocky V for the first 4 minutes and since then it's a shame.
@@lexkanyima2195 right but those first few minutes took place post-fight in Russia and still in 1985.
@@dylancooper3690 but it was not filmed in 1985 after that. Just look at the difference
SO GOOD! Such an amazing capstone after the prior 5, and remarkable in it's own right.
Gotta react to the deleted scene with paulie now.... Hope to see it maybe.... Good reaction Addie... 👍🏼
Sly has also done another boxing flick since this one, a comedy called "Grudge Match" where his character fights Robert DeNiro's.
Your Reaction to this made my day. Forever Love Rocky!!!
This is the greatest Movie ever!
After the dismal Rocky V, Rocky Balboa is the perfect end to the Rocky saga! Such a high note!
You're better than that!"
I know that speech like the back of my hand. The day I heard that speech, it stayed with me my entire life. To this day I think it's one of the best speeches in cinematic history.
So glad you finally got to this movie and THAT scene Addie! Keep on punching!
The Rocky movies were never about winning. They were about overcoming. They were about proving things to yourself. They were about humanity.
5:51 I love how Paulie grew on you. He has that effect, and it didn’t even take you six years 😂
This is such a beautiful callback to the first film, and a great completion to his journey over the course of the films.
“I’m a fighter” “Going in one more round when you don’t think you can, that makes all the difference in your life” “I didn’t hear not bell, one more round” “It ain’t about how hard you can hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward!” And of course “get up you son a b*tch, cause Mikey loves you”
This is the most underrated Rocky movie.
This is my favorite. Getting older myself, this helps remind me you are never too old to do what you love. ❤ Great reaction looking forward to watching you watch Creed.
“Why you gotta owe somethin’ to get somethin’?” ❤
Great reaction love of the characters comes through you make us feel for them with them. Thanks for the fun until next time.
This was probably THE saddest of all the Rocky movies... but even though Adrian is not in the movie, Adrian's presence is still very prevalent. I still love this movie. I watch this the night it came out... the theater was quite, I had never seen grown men and kids crying. ❤ this movie.
“Jesus wants me to work.” Love Spider 😅
"I'm so worried about Rocky!"
Dixon punches Rocky and breaks his hand.
Now we've got a movie.
That look you give when you're on it! 😂 you look just like my 8 year old daughter watching Disney! Bless ❤😊
Just for yourself watch the deleted scene with Paulie. Just as powerful as the scene with Rocky's son. Incredible.
There's a extended deleted scene Rocky and Paulie in the alley...Paulie really breaks down.
I highly recommend you now to see the "Creed" saga. It´s a perfect continuation... done with quality, love and respect.
It was so well done and Rocky Marie doesn't make it
