      @@joseedurado00 To be honest he shouldn't have been fighting at all . His mother has said he told her in 1989 he knew he had the virus . He retired in 96 , and later tried to come back saying he never had it , and was wrongly diagnosed . The boxing commission didn't believe his story , and he was denied . So he fought out of the U.S. Not a very responsible guy .

      He was a great fighter. In the 70s, we used to look for the "Great White Hope" to win a title. It was dumb of course, Ali will always be the greatest to me, but Tommy actually filled that moniker. His personal life, life a lot of athletes, was a tragedy that unfolded over years.

    I dunno why so many people hate this movie so much. It was the first Rocky I saw properly and I enjoyed it enough to get into the rest of the franchise. Every movie's a hit for me. 5 isn't the best of them but it's perfectly servicable

      @Shidai I agree. I grew up with these films and personally 4 has a lot of jingoistic undertones going on. This one actually brings Rocky back to his routes where he started as a mob enforcer fighting on the street.

    • @BareThomas84
      @BareThomas84 3 месяца назад

      It's the corniness for me. There's just something about it that didn't feel right in the franchise.
      That said, I've come to appreciate it a lot more recently. The only real scene that I really love is the Micky flashback.

    25:56 "Rocky has such a good heart." Rocky is one of the toughest characters in movie history, but he's also one of the kindest. That's an important concept to pass down to people. That's why I hope the Rocky movies will continue to be popular for a long time.

    • @d.w.strangeman4963
      @d.w.strangeman4963 3 месяца назад +2

      @waterbeauty85 I agree. every reaction I've seen to these films they go in thinking it's all just about blokes fighting but it doesn't take long for the tears to roll. Says a lot about the writing when a pacifist starts shouting for Rocky to hit harder😂
      More than just a sports film I'd say☺️

  • @ConstantineFurman
    @ConstantineFurman 3 месяца назад +3

    So here's the thing with Rocky's son--"Rocky V" itself time jumps. That is, it begins in 1985 and eventually works itself up to late 1990. When they were planning the film, the idea was that Rocky Krakoff (from "Rocky IV") would play Rocky Jr. in the early parts of the movie and then Sage Stallone would play him in the later parts of the movie. But Krakoff was unavailable, so they just decided to have Sage do the part for the whole movie. But if you pay attention, you can see Sage is made up to look much more youthful in the first half of the movie than he is in the later parts. It's not something that's especially germane to the plot, so you're just expected to roll with it. Also, do keep in mind, these movies came out over a span of several years--they weren't meant to be seen back to back to back like this.

    23:41 Rocky talking about boxing being a dirty business full of thieves and gangsters reminds me that, for many years, sportscaster Howard Cosell was a commentator for ABC Sports' boxing coverage because he had a love of boxing and great respect for boxers, but he eventually quit because he couldn't stomach how exploitive to the boxers and crooked the business side of the sport was.

    While making the Rocky movies, Sylvester Stallone learned a lot about real boxers inside and outside the ring and incorporated much of what he learned into the movies to add more three dimensionality to his character. Rocky doing his little trick of pulling something from behind Robert's ear was inspired by real life boxing great Muhammad Ali. Ali loved sleight of hand magic and would perform impromptu tricks to entertain his friends. Later in his life, when there were many concerns about the effects Parkinsonism might be having on Ali's physical and mental capabilities, ABC news did a feature story about him. In the course of the story, they showed instances of him with slow, slurred speech and with his mind seeming to wander, but they ended on a positive note showing Ali perfectly performing and a magic trick for the reporter with all the dexterity, presentation skill and charm of his younger days.

    In real life, Tommy Morrison was a talented boxer, and very briefly held the WBO (World Boxing Organization) Heavyweight Title. However, like Union Kane in the movie, it was a vacant title. Tommy defeated the other top contender, not a seated champion. He lost the title later that same year. Two years later he would win the IBF (International Boxing Federation) Heavyweight Title in the same fashion, but lost it the very next fight. Also, like the movie, Tommy got caught up in the limelight and partying, ...drinking, drugs, having unprotected sex with many women. That's why he was never able to hold on to his success for very long. He ended up dying of AIDS.

    So glad you watched this!
    Your reaction was sooo good!
    This movie was released in 1990, and the first Rocky was released in 1976 - so Sylvester Stallone made 5 Rocky movies within those 14 years.
    We had to wait a long time for the 6th movie, which was released in 2006..!
    So there was a 16 year gap between this movie and ‘Rocky Balboa’. That’s more time than it took to make all 5 of the original movies.
    Also, by 2006 many people thought Sylvester Stallone’s career was over. He hadn’t had a hit for a long time.
    ‘Rocky Balboa’ is great.
    I can’t wait for your reaction!

    No apologies needed for your pre-reaction monologue. I was in the the theater in 1985 when Apollo died. I can tell you the crowd was a mixture of reactions-vocally-both sadness, but mostly RAGE! Remember this was during the cold war. The fact a Russian came over here and said "If he dies, he dies." then he does, people were pi$$ed off yelling at screen for Rocky to kill the Russian. We hated the USSR with a passion. They pushed us in the 60s and 70s to the brink of WWIII. Everyday we jnew could be our last on this planet, and with that given, we hated the USSR.
    We left the theater upset...both sad and happy for victory, but thought the "20 million" was just false hope. Turned out, 4 years later, Mikhail Gorbachev, who the movie meant to show as the head of the Pullit Bureau in the balcony, brought down the Iron Curtain..then the fall of the Berlin Wall. It was a glorious time going into the 90s. The 80s and 90s are really a long decade. We kids who graduated in the early 80s, partied in our 20s in the 90s with the high school kids. We were kinda tied together.
    Great reaction!

    Watch the next movie. It gives a way better ending to the character Rocky instead of this. I'm not a fan of this movie. Like, how do u go from Rocky being on such a high in Part 4 to bringing him all the way down to where he looses everything, his kid gets beat up, he has brain damage, and he is on hard times again. The music sucked also. U go from having all of these amazing soundtracks with classic rock to rap. It just doesn't fit. I actually started to hate Rocky, which is something I thought I would never do. Duke was annoying as hell and I hated every scene he was in. Stallone hated this movie. He rated it a 0-10. That's why he made Rocky Balboa to send the character off in a better way. My only favorite scene in this movie was when Rocky is thinking about Mick. Still brings a tear to my eye. That was a really good scene.To be honest, whenever I have a marathon, I always skip this movie and go from Rocky 4 to Rocky Balboa. This movie just pisses me off.

    Regarding the ageing of Rocky's son, Robert, it's just bad continuity. In the real world, these films were all made years apart, and it seems like the filmmakers can't make up their minds whether that much time has passed in-universe as well or not. Robert already looked too old to me in _Rocky IV,_ considering that he was born in _Rocky II,_ _Rocky III_ is set three years later, and _Rocky IV_ picks up right after the end of _Rocky III._ Also, Rocky and Adrian got married in _Rocky II,_ then in _Rocky IV_ he tells her that they've almost been married for nine years, which roughly fits with how much time had passed in the real world, but not with how much time had seemingly passed in-universe.
    I don't think you can make sense of it, so I don't even try. Just enjoy the films and accept that the continuity is a little wonky at times.
