When he walked into that room and I saw him for the first time, I saw greatness. But I didn't realize how great, I never could have accomplished what we did with Rocky without him. He was absolutely brilliant. His voice, his size, his power, his athletic ability, but more importantly, his heart, his soul. It’s a horrible loss. I'm standing here in front of this painting because it was probably the last moment we were ever in the ring together, and I'll never forget it. He was magic and I was so fortunate to be part of his life. So, Apollo... Keep punching."

When I was a kid, I had Rocky I-V on VHS tape. I recorded them off of HBO, they weren’t even official. I was a fat kid, I got bullied and picked on. Apollo Creed training Rocky in “Rocky III” inspired me to start working out. I pretended Apollo was training me. I was poor, so I took my old basketball pole and poured concrete in 5 gallon buckets (of course I didn’t fill it up, just enough) to make my own barbell. Now I’m 6’3” 220 lbs and I’m running triathlons. I always think of Rocky and Apollo when I’m thinking of quitting. These movies changed my life. After hearing Carl Weathers died yesterday, I saw this pop up in my RUclips feed. I’m new to your channel. Great reaction.

    Rocky IV: Hold my beer
Fun Facts: This is Mr. T's first acting role (impressive performance btw) and he took his mother to see it. During the scene when he disrespects Adrian she stood up, told him she raised him better than that and stormed off LOL Also Mickey and Apollo said to Rocky "You're the best". Some songs were written for this movie including Joe Esposito's "You're the best" which ended up being used in Karate Kid after Stallone chose Survivor's "The eye of the tiger" instead.

Rocky III (1982) continues the saga of Rocky Balboa. Mickey's death after Rocky loses his fight against Clubber Lang was heartbreaking but Rocky training with Apollo Creed was both awesome & heartwarming at the same time because that's when their friendship begins. Rocky got the titles back from the legit champion in his prime thanks to training by Apollo and a dose of reality from Adrian.

She lost the eye of the tiger, and it was a self-chosen decision.

Interestingly, the actor who plays Paulie had been a professional boxer. How weird was it for him, who had real life experience as a decent professional boxer, to act in a boxing movie playing an unathletic drunken shlub who doesn't belong anywhere near a boxing ring, while Stallone (as far as I know) never did any actual boxing beyond just training for the role? In the early scene where Paulie is swinging at Rocky in anger... if the two actors had actually fought for real as themselves at that moment, Paulie would likely have destroyed Stallone!!

  • @PaperbackWizard

Rocky III is *absolutely* my favorite movie in the franchise. It avoids a lot of the pitfalls of sequels and makes the first three movies a true trilogy. Every character from the first two movies gets some new development, new facets of their characters, a new way to shine. Adrian, especially, had that fantastic scene on the beach with Rocky. You'd never guess, from the first two movies, that she had it in her, but it still fits with her so well. And, of course, seeing Apollo in his new role as Rocky's trainer and new best friend fits so well with *both* their character arcs. The first two movies are as much about Apollo as they are about Rocky, so this was a great direction for both of them to take. The franchise just wouldn't have been the same without Carl Weathers.

    • @PaperbackWizard
      @PaperbackWizard 7 месяцев назад

Also? Hulk Hogan, aka Thunderlips, put it very succinctly: That's the name of the game. Wrestling may be fake, but it takes *real* skill and athleticism to get through those matches without permanently injuring yourself; and some get permanently injured, anyway, or worse. Wrestling is not for the faint of heart.

What I thought was always quite prophetic about this film, is that the Original Rocky film was inspired by the fight between Chuck Wepner and Mohammed Ali, but the relationship between Mickey and Rocky is very reminiscent of Mike Tyson and Cus D'Amato, except it was Cus that had Mike Tyson living with him.
This film was released in 1982. In 1985 Cus D'Amato died, not able to live long enough to see his prodigy Mike Tyson then go on to become the youngest heavyweight champion in 1986, at just 20 years and 4 months of age.

I've commented this a LOT on other videos and tribute posts before, but I gotta say it again, as it's a hill I will die on. Back in 2017, I had the honor of meeting Carl Weathers in real life. He came to a convention with Dolph Lundgren (Ivan Drago from Rocky IV) and he was easily - without a doubt - one of the nicest celebrities you could ever meet. He was everything you'd expect him to be based on the movies: funny, friendly, and just an overall awesome guy. It's been at least a month as I write this and I still can't get over that he's gone. I know I only met him once, and for a minute or two, but I walked away happy. I never forgot how awesome he was and I never will as long as I live. RIP, I miss you, Carl.

All of the characters in the Rocky films are so well written that you can't help but feel the emotional weight of their joys and sorrows. The death of Mickey still gets me every time and I've been watching this since the day it first came out. I've said in the past that while Star Wars was always my favorite film series, Rocky is the one that taught me about life. There are so many nuggets of wisdom that can apply to all of life and not just boxing. Adrian's "fight" in this was one of those moments. I won't spoil anything, but I think her conversation here is my second favorite which only comes behind one from Rocky Balboa (the sixth one).
Thank you for sharing this awesome reaction!
And RIP Carl Weathers. So sad to see the loss of a legend who inspired me from a young age!

The second fight with Lang is inspired by a real fight.
The Rumble in the Jungle could be an amazing movie. Ali was fresh back from his Boxing ban for refusing to go to Vietnam out of protest.
He had lost critical years at his prime. He came back swearing to reconquer the heavyweight division.
He even had beat the one man (at the time) who put Ali on his butt at the height of his career (Smokin’ Joe Frazier who had a cameo in Rocky 1)
His opponent was George Foreman (yes the grill guy) who was a MONSTER and NO ONE expected Ali to win. I think at this point no one had ever gone more than like 6 rounds with Foreman.
Ali, wore him down let him beat up on him until he was tired. (While reciting dirty, mean poems in his ear) and knocked Foreman out.
Ali’s pre fight press conference is LEGENDARY.
“I done something new for this fight. I done wrestled with an alligator.
That's right. I have wrestled with an alligator.
I done tussled with a whale.
I handcuffed lightning, thrown thunder in jail.
Only last week I murdered a rock, injured a stone, hospitalised a brick!
I'm so mean I make medicine sick!”

I’m sure it’s already been commented but an fun fact about the movie: Mr. T (Clubber Lang) brought his mother to the premiere of the movie. During the scene where he was harassing Adrian, his mother got mad and said “I did not raise you to talk to a lady like that.” He tried to explain it was just his character, but she wasn’t having it and stormed out of the theater.

Believe it or not that brief shot of Rocky on the Muppet show was footage of Stallone’s real life guest star appearance with the Muppets. Stallone was giving some random groupies some basic punching lessons teaching them how the throw the old one two. For this movie, Stallone actually had Jim Henson come in for an ADR session just for that one scene so you can hear Kermit saying, “It’s the Muppet Show with our very special guest star, Rocky Balboa! Yaaaaaayyyyyy!!!!”

1st Rocky reaction I've seen since the news of Carl Weather's passing). Ugh! As a 51 yr. old Gen Xer who grew up w/Rocky & hv seen each movie countless times, Carl Weather's passing hits. As a kid, I had the poster of Rocky & Apollo posing / facing each other w/the gloves up in my bedroom. Apollo Creed was such a great character. There are some roles that are just meant for a particular actor & nobody cld hv done it as well (Carl Weathers as Apollo, Louis Gossett Jr. as GSgt Foley in "An Officer & a Gentlemen). R.I.P. Carl Weathers 😢
This one shows a different side to the entire cast… well, apart from Paulie, he’s still a shady and self centred drunken bum lol… we see Mickey being the protective father figure after giving Rocky a hard time in the first, Rocky had lost the hunger and found something to lose (not just a fight the title), Adrianne found a strength that her former shy self didn’t have, and Apollo became a mentor to his former opponent and wanted him to win.
