Stallone’s writing really shines through in the speeches he wrote for this franchise. Just wait until Rocky Balboa. The speech Rocky gives to his son about winning is nothing short of amazing.
Rocky III was my entry point into the series as an eleven yr old bc it was on HBO in 1983 when cable TV finally came to my neighborhood. So I saw it A LOT. Definite favorite.
The paintings are by LeRoy Neiman, a very famous and prolific painter best known for his sports & action scenes. When he put out a message on social media about Carl's passing, Sylvester stood in front of that painting of he and Carl throwing their punches in the final shot.
RIP Carl Weathers Fun Fact: one of the themes they originally had in mind for Rocky 3 was The theme for Karate Kid "You're The Best Around." the female fan who asked Rocky for a kiss was actually his ex wife she is also the mom of baby Rocky Jr. from Rocky 2 played by Seargeoh Stallone. During the primer of Rocky 3, when Clubber called out Adrian, Mr. T mom yelled at him and walked out of the theater. Hulk Hogan's first WWF theme was Eye of the Tiger.
I remember when my grandfather died, the end of the final open coffin, his daughter (my mother's sister and my aunt) nearly threw herself on him. It took a group to pry her away all while she screamed, "Daddy! DADDY!" as we filed out of the funeral home. So, Rocky's howling, clinging to Mickey's body tight, is really natural.
@@emirlsanchos6302 Thank you for sharing. Isn't so awful we all have to watch loved ones pass. Oof. Hey, if you haven't seen Rocky 5, the movie stinks but there's 1 tremendous scene, flashback scene with Mick. He talks about what you said. I tear up every time
@adampare8088 I've seen all Rocky entries, including the Creed spin-off trilogy. While I didn't think the fifth was that bad, I did find it really bleak. I understood their desire to bring Rocky back to his roots after the grandiose 4th film, yet it lacked the "moving forward" spirit of its predecessors. And that street fight didn't compare to the exhilaration of seeing Rocky overcome the odds in a Ring.
I mean, that would've been awful. 😂 they have many great songs, but not this one. "We will rock you", or "we are the champions", maybe. But it's hard to imagine Rocky III without "eye of the tiger". Imho, that song was the perfect fit for the movie.
Eye of the Tiger was written for Rocky III. Survivor was shown an early cut of the film and they focused on the phrase “eye of the tiger” from the movie.
Love it. I discovered your channel when you started watching “Cobra Kai”. Seeing Apollo and Rocky team up reminded me of Daniel and Johnny joining forces albeit much friendlier between the latter.
Great reaction you two! 😊 RIP always to Carl Weathers!!! This is one of my top favorite movie in the Rocky/Creed franchise. We say goodbye to Mickey. But this was the beginning of Rocky and Apollo's friendship. Not only is the Rocky/Apollo training montage is one of my favorites of the series. But the scene between Rocky and Adrian on the beach is one of my all-time favorite Rocky moments. Although he's a super nice person in real life, Mr. T as Clubber Lang is such a great villian. Just now noticing Robert's 'Hollywood' t-shirt. You guys totally need to watch the 1987 movie "Mannequin". Such a fun movie! And for another great Carl Weathers movie, that I had forgotten that he was in until he passed away, I highly recommend the 1976 "Force 10 From Navarone". Looking forward to the next reaction. 😊
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. T back in the 90s. He was one of the nicest, most polite people I ever met. I always associated him with being a tough badass lol. Made me love him even more.
Probably my all time favorite Rocky movie with 4 being a close second. I go back and forth about which is my favorite. Yeah 4 is so 80's it'll probably make you sick but thats kinda why i love it!
I remember watching the 3rd movie, and the one scene that stands out in this one is when creed says to Rocky is "its a shame we gotta get old" and its stuck with me for years, R.I.P. Carl
The statue is still in Philadelphia. They just moved it to the bottom of the stairs off to the side. There's always a crowd of people lined up taking turns for photos. As for the stairs, people always run up while taking selfies. It's hilarious.
It was originally moved to the Spectrum(where the 2 fights with Appolo took place) until it was demolished in 2010. It was in storage like 6 years then moved to the bottom of the steps of the Philadelphia art museum.
@@russellward4624 Thank you for the history lesson. I had no idea. All I know about the statue is that I was able to take pictures with it during my trip to philadelphia last year. And yes, I was one of the idiots running up the stairs taking a selfie video. 😁
I absolutely love your Hollywood shirt.......absolute classic movie too.....those jelly donuts calling Hollywood in the night 😂 Great video and such a great franchise RIP Carl Weathers such a great actor.....loved him in Happy Gilmore and Predator. Have a great day guys and thank you for sharing this awesome watch along and review. Love your channel so much.
When the first Rocky movie came to my area, it was the DEFINITION of blockbuster: at the Avenue O movie theatre in Brooklyn, the line to see that movie went around the whole block, then across the street and almost to the next corrner.
Both this and the start of the Rambo Saga with 'First Blood', same year. Sly's career was into overdrive. The fights (written by Sly, credited as boxing choreographer) are pretty good. Rocky's 2nd fight with Clubber was a major step up. Mr.T's introduction was golden and pretty much made his career legendary. Phenomenal as Clubber Lang, in his physical prime, talking that s*** (first-ever 'I Pity The Fool'). Burgess Meredith as Mickey for one last time was both beautiful and heartbreaking. Rocky & Apollo's friendship, rivals to friends, working together as true champs. The statue at the top of the museum steps is still such a meta moment. Having up there for so long for real, lots of love and as an kid, i thought it was just for the movie. Eye of The Tiger, the first of 3 songs recorded for the Rocky saga by Survivor. Great movie theme and still is a classic workout song. This was the one film of the saga I had seen the least. But I definitely think this was one of the best '3rd films' in a franchise. Originally, this was planned as the final film in the series and that itself is crazy. If you guys watch Rocky IV; you have 2 choices:the original cut (1985) or the director's cut (2021).
When Hulk Hogan first started he went by the names Terry Boulder and Sterling Golden (not sure which was first). Vince’s father named him Hulk Hogan in 1979. And he was that tall at the time but he shrunk as he got off the steroids.
Rocky (sly) had the statue on the edge of his pool. He recently sold the house to Adele . Now it’s on the edge of HER pool . He left it behind with the house they built and loved in L.A when they recently moved to Florida . Sly Stallone has a new family reality show The Family Stallone now starting its second season.
I love how in the Rocky movies there is a story being told in the actual fights as well, how the action plays out. When I watch some super polished, choreographed to perfection slick modern action I get bored by them pretty quick because they're just a fancy dance with no substance past that.
Rocky Jr was actually portrayed by two of Sylvester Stallone's real-life sons. He was played by Seargeoh Stallone as a baby in Rocky II (1979) and by the late Sage Stallone in Rocky V (1990). 👍😁😁😁💕🥊🥊🥊🥊
Vanessa's pumped!!! 😄😄 But yeah, man, this movie was like the action movie of the franchise. It hits hard, more ways than one! Emotionally, spiritually, even makes you wanna get your ass up and go to the gym. This movie also got a lot of short Italian men in trouble, but that's another story for another time. 😄😄
This Rocky movie is my # 2 favorite Rocky movie this movie had tons of heart and a story of Rocky rebuilding himself after losing Mickey little known fact Burgess Merideth played the Penguin in the original Batman series with Adam West. I think that Carl Weathers in this movie was his best and his character is like a new version of Mickey.
1. My favorite of the Rocky movies. Rocky IV is almost as good as this. 2. Where I lived had that pinball machine and I kicked the shit out of it. (Top 5 scores) 3. Micky's death shakes everyone. 4. "Eye of the Tiger" was from a band called Survivor. Their other hit was "High on You". 5. The woman swooning over Rocky that Micky chases away was Sly's wife IRL 6. Kudos to Mr. T for playing a man with absolutely no redeeming qualities. 7. IRL Clubber Lang(and his ego would be back. In movie land, been there, done that. 8. RIP Paulie/Burt Young.😇 9. RIP Apollo/Carl Weathers.😇
Fun fact hogan was fired by the original owner of the WWE for taking the part of thunder lips . Also him and Mr. T became friends during the filming of the movie and Mr. T and hogan were tag team partners at the 1st 2 wrestlemanias and hogan appeared on 2 episodes of the TV show the A-team that mr.t was the star of
18:30 -- I know he was still a few years away at the time but among real boxers Clubber is the most like Mike Tyson, by far. Though he kinda makes Tyson (in his prime; 80s) look like a Boy Scout!
Also fun fact if you watch the scene of Rocky and Apollo’s first race on the beach and Rocky is having flashbacks of the Clubber fight you see Rocky is in the Red,white and blue trunks that Apollo gives to him later in the movie …………oops
Great reaction! PLEASE spread the word to all your Millenial and Generation Z contacts. Especially now when they're hungry for feel good inspiring movies. In fact, that's why Rocky 1 beat the other 3 Oscar nominees for best picture. America back then was facing inflation, and just being "out of it" - and when "Rocky" came out, everyone cheered!
You must react to Grumpy Old Men and Grumpier Old Men! Burgess Meredith (Mickey) is absolutely hilarious. They have an all-star cast as well. You'll love those films, I promise!😂
Fun Fact: Hulk Hogan was fired from the WWF by Vince SR for appearing in Rocky III and later brought back By Vince JR when he bought the company and while filming his fight scene Hulk Hogan put 3 men in the hospital and left Stallone battered and bruised.
In 1974 Muhammad Ali fought powerful boxer George Foreman and eventually used what they now call a "rope-a-dope". Basically the second round, he put his back to the ropes covered up his face and just let Foreman throw punches at him to tire him out. Foreman wasn't scoring many points during the punches and Ali kept his energy. After several rounds, Ali started really attacking since Foreman ran out of energy just like Clubber Lang and won the fight. Even the taunting was part of it, "They told me you could punch, George!". It's a movie, but the way Rocky wins is based on a real fight and a real strategy that I do believe Ali came up with originally.
Fun Facts: Hulk Hogan was NOT WWE (then WWF) Heavyweight Champ when this was filmed. Very soon after the film was released in theatres, the Iron Sheik had won the title from Bob Backlund. The Sheik was a heel champ who was capitalising on the current crisis of American hostages in Iran. According to Hogan, it was his idea to have "Eye of the Tiger" piped in over the house speakers as he walked to the ring - against the wishes of WWF owner Vincent McMahon Sr. Hogan claims he paid the sound guy $500 cash to do it anyway, and that is how the whole concept of fighters using "entrance music" was born. Hogan defeated The Iron Sheik that night in MSG - the match was NOT televised - and began his historic run as WWF World Heavyweight Champion. He has the distinction of having the 3rd longest reign with the title, behind only Bruno Sammartino, and Bob Backlund. Also, the version of "Eye of the Tiger" heard in the film is actually Survivor's demo version of the song, which is the version Stallone heard when he chose to include the song in the film. The band rushed to get a more polished version in time for inclusion on the film's soundtrack (and single release), but it was not complete in time for final audio dubbing of the film.
Funny thing is, Burt Young who plays Paulie would whoop Sly and Carl Weathers in his prime. He was a legit badass boxer with a record 17 wins and no losses.
One of Hulk Hogan's early ring names was 'Sterling Golden. And he really is that tall - 6'7", if I recall. And this movie killed and made his career. Vince McMahon Sr refused to allow Hogan to appear in the movie, and when Hogan did anyway, Vince Sr fired him. But the huge publicity from the movie convinced Vince McMahon Jr to hire him back. *sigh* 'He's gonna come hard' is funny? Seriously? If there was one word in the English language I could strip of all innuendo, it's 'come.' It's just juvenile.
Mostly everything Hogan does to Rocky, Rocky told him to go full legit on him. Same thing happened he told Dolph Lundren to do as Russian in Part 4.. Stallone paid the price each time.
Mickey claiming he set up whom Rocky would face in title defenses is (sorry) total BS. Same situation happened with first film, Creed was looking at list of fighters. The boxing commission tells you who you will face based on rankings. Despite this being fictional, if thats the case why did the boxing commission strip Rocky of the title for facing Russian in an unsanctioned match.
According to Hogan (in many interviews about this), he received several telegrams from Stallone but Hogan dismissed this as a wrestler on wrestler prank. Hogan then went to Japan, then an associate contacted Stallone which proved the movie offer was legit. But Vince McMahon Sr (I always thought it was Verne Gagne said this) fired him for taking the role saying your a "wrestler not an actor". WOW thats an ironic thing to say.

That was indeed the origin of "I pity the fool".

Robert I can't believe 😮you and Vanessa never saw Rocky III. This was my favorite. Only one where Rocky fights three times in the same movie!!!
He had that voice as well as the acting performances that makes him stand out that you find hard to avoid
rocky IV is def the best@@davidevans5368
Rocky III was my entry point into the series as an eleven yr old bc it was on HBO in 1983 when cable TV finally came to my neighborhood. So I saw it A LOT. Definite favorite.
41:19 Man, those words hit harder now than ever. Carl Weathers was one of a kind.
The paintings are by LeRoy Neiman, a very famous and prolific painter best known for his sports & action scenes. When he put out a message on social media about Carl's passing, Sylvester stood in front of that painting of he and Carl throwing their punches in the final shot.
Neiman is also in the movie. He's the ring announcer with the big mustache during the Thunderlips match.

Rocky had the most natural cry with Micky. Most movies use that standard cry thing, but this is how we would cry if we lost our father figure

With Wrestlemania in Philly, I need a segment with Rocky and Thunderlips. The Ultimate Male and the Ultimate Meatball: 40 years later.
That ending was also done by Dan and Rocha in Houston. I love Rocky III so much!
Fun Fact: The film almost had Queen's Another One Bites the Dust, but it was too expensive, so they used Eye of the Tiger
It was also going to use You're the Best by Joe Esposito but Sly didn't like the song. It was later used in The Karate Kid.
I mean, that would've been awful. 😂 they have many great songs, but not this one. "We will rock you", or "we are the champions", maybe. But it's hard to imagine Rocky III without "eye of the tiger". Imho, that song was the perfect fit for the movie.

Mickie calling the gym Rocky rented, "a house of ill repute" still gives me a grin all these years later.
That's exactly what happened with the Muppet Show clip.
That was Philadelphia's Lincoln High School Band in the statue dedication scene - the same high school Sylvester Stallone attended.
Hogan was standing on a box at the face off. A brilliant touch by Sly to really play up the size difference even more.

Hulk Hogan was called The Incredible Hulk before he was forced to change his name because of the show and comicbook character.

Been nice to let her be surprised in who was in the movie but nonetheless nice reaction
Pauley Pennino...knocking out Sterno bums since 1982!
Rocky is in creed 2 as well, but not 3, creed 2 is also in my eyes a master piece if you count is as a rocky movie or part of the rocky franchise,
First in the comments! Definitely not late to this party! 🎉 Got my notifications on baby!
You're the best!
Next Rocky 4
RIP Apollo
Mostly everything Hogan does to Rocky, Rocky told him to go full legit on him. Same thing happened he told Dolph Lundren to do as Russian in Part 4.. Stallone paid the price each time.
From what I hear, they've removed the statue and put it in the park
Need to know where my dude gets his T’s Hollywood from mannequin come on 💯
Clubber was all strength and no endurance. In the sexual realm he'd be called a 2 pump chump.
Why wasn’t Clubber arrested for manslaughter of Mick?
You should post video Rocky 4 next 0:29
