One thing Stallone always tells people is that Rocky is NOT a sports movie, but it is a love story. The dog was Stallone dog. And he also still has those turtles cuff and link today.

He lost. They said it was a split decision and announced "Winner... and STILL heavyweight champion, Apollo Creed!" which is when Apollo put his arms up. The decision isn't focused on intentional, because it didn't matter to Rocky. All that was left was to get the girl, which he then did.

In1970s Philadelphia I think pissed off, stressed out, frustrated and pessimistic were normal, everyday feelings. The mid-late 70s in major urban areas was a struggle. I lived in NYC; it (the city) was bankrupt. Teacher layoffs, cop layoffs, fireman layoffs, closed subway stations, garbage strikes, urban decay, high unemployment rates, overburdened social services systems, high taxes, inflated food and gas prices, oil embargoes, Vietnam Veterans living on the streets. Factories closing leading to unemployment among blue collar workers (Philadelphia would have probably been hit very hard by this; it was a big manufacturing area). I guess people venting at each other was not unusual - - though Paulie appears to have had some other issues as well. He probably wanted to work on the docks because it paid better and also, unfortunately, that kind of work is recession-proof if the boss is satisfied with you.
Skid Row is in LA. I think it was a tent city during The Depression. It must have been very well known as 'skid row' became an expression indicating very rough or scant living circumstances. At Mickey's gym, skid row was probably what the people training there nicknamed the bench or the wall hooks - - a.k.a. the lockerless.
Modern reactions to Rocky on the small screen really bring home how vital the big screen and the appropriate era is to film. Rocky today is a poor shadow of itself. It's no one's fault. But, trust me: in 1976, it was _incredible._
That's because most of the people you see watching that have no personalities and all they want to do is b**** and complain about how things were back then and they're not even paying attention to the movie story they're talkin too damn much I've seen a lot of people do this and they're just not really paying attention to the love story
I can't understand why some people just don't get it. SMH. Rocky said if he just make the distance, he would know he wasn't just another bum from the neighborhood. It really doesn't matter what time the movie came from. It's the story that matters. And the moral of the story. .
It's like when you see certain people watch this movie they don't pay any f****** attention at all it's like he just wanted to go the distance the second one is pretty much where everything going to takes off but you get boring people like this that do a reaction
His win was the thing that he said on the bad with Adrian, he said he just wanna stay in ring and not be knocked out, that was his objective and he got it
"What??!! that was it??" Didn't you people hear Rocky when he said that he didn't expect to win the fight???!!!! All he wanted was to go the distance! Still be standing when the final bell rings! Rocky and Adrian admitting their love for each other was the CHERRY ON TOP of Rocky going the distance!! But you were "in CREED this....." "in CREED that...... "
Stallone went around to many studios trying to get someone to make the movie. A lot of the studios were interested in making the movie, but they wanted to cast a big name star to play the lead. Stallone, on the other hand, insisted that he plays the lead. This led every studio he approached to turn down the movie. He got so broke pushing the script that he had to sell his dog to make ends meet. Stallone finally found a studio that would accept his offer to make the script AND cast him as the lead, but it would be at a fraction of what Stallone wanted. Stallone accepted, and as soon as he got his check, he used that money to buy back the dog he sold. Stallone's dog is the same dog that is featured in the movie. Another interesting fact? The turtles featured in the later Rockys are the same turtle from Rocky 1.
My favorite part of the Rocky story was the time a studio made a deal with Stallone for the script and although he had remorse right after, they wouldn't give it back. So he literally called the Fonz (as in Henry Winkler) to help him. The Fonz got Rocky back for Stallone and the rest is history. I'm not kidding. lol.
Don't worry about it, Jane. I had a viral upper respiratory infection last year that took me five months to get over. After a month I felt better, but it took four months to stop coughing and sneezing.
Sylvester Stallone's journey to making the movie Rocky is a true underdog story, much like the film itself. In the early 1970s, Stallone was a struggling actor and writer, living in New York City, trying to make ends meet. At one point, he was so broke that he had to sell his dog for $50 just to pay his bills. In 1975, inspired by a boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner, Stallone decided to write a screenplay about an underdog boxer who gets a once-in-a-lifetime shot at the heavyweight championship. He wrote the script for Rocky in just three days, pouring his heart and soul into the story. Stallone wanted to star in the film as the lead character, Rocky Balboa, but he faced many obstacles along the way. When he began shopping the script around Hollywood, producers were interested in the story, but they were not keen on having Stallone as the lead actor. They offered him a significant amount of money for the script, with the condition that he would not star in it. Despite his financial struggles, Stallone refused to sell the script unless he was guaranteed the lead role. His determination eventually paid off when producers Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff agreed to let him star in the film, but with a limited budget of around $1 million. This forced the production to be shot in a mere 28 days, with many scenes filmed in a single take due to the budget constraints. The movie was completed and released in 1976, becoming a massive success both critically and commercially. Rocky went on to win three Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and launched Stallone's career as an actor, writer, and director. The film has since become a beloved classic, inspiring a successful franchise and solidifying Stallone's status as an icon in the entertainment industry. The story of Sylvester Stallone's struggle to make Rocky is a testament to perseverance, determination, and believing in oneself, mirroring the very themes present in the film itself.
Fun Fact: When they filmed the kiss scene, Talia Shire had the FLU and didn't want to get Sly sick. That's why she held back so much. Lots of great behind-the-scenes stories with all these films.
This movie doesn't have the fancy polish that the Creed movies or even the later Rocky movies because it was made for only $1 million, the producer's had to put up their houses as collateral to get it made. Its low budget and it shows, but it's still a perfect movie and it won best picture.
I’m 52 and I really enjoy your channel. That said, it’s so odd to listen to your reactions through this. The disconnect of my generation and yours has become so significant that you two don’t understand what seems natural and understandable to me. Crazy. Anyway, thanks for doing this. I saw this movie in the theater and it was very inspirational. And yes, people in Philly back in the day and even today talk like that. I live in South Jersey, just outside of Philly so same with us there. These days it’s a bit more refined.
TLDR story behind Rocky: Stallone was broke af, had written the rocky script and pitched it many times but the financiers either didnt like it or wanted to cast someone else as Rocky. He was so broke and desperate that he had to pawn his dog (the dog in the movie). When the script finally got picked up and he got paid, one of the first things he did was go back and buy his dog back for a ridiculous sum of money. Stallone was really the real life rocky (without the boxing) lol. Really really hope yall continue with all the rocky movies before resuming creed. Makes it 100x better. As a combat sports fan, the boxing is a little hard to watch but the underdog story and the love story are what make this series legendary.
" why does he talk like that?" " is that his accent?" " did they talk like that?" Really? 😂😂 Tell us you've been nowhere without telling us you've been nowhere. This is not the only film that features American Italians and their accent.
They don't know buddy. His voice is extremely unique. It's strong even for a Philly accent. It's less so in the latter movies and the Creed franchise. It is annoying they're doing this backwards.
@brianhayes2429 I hear ya and yep, it's super annoying, and I can't imagine why they decided to do that because it's the growth in Rocky and his getting out of that neighborhood that help soften his accent. They would know that if they started from the very beginning. It's just a weird thing to ask for me. Like I hear their Canadian accent sometimes. I've never been to Canada but understand that people in different areas have different accents. So I got a little annoyed because why would an Italian American write a movie about Italians in a poor neighborhood in Philadelphia and not be true to the accent? And the accent is not "dated" there are Italians on Housewives of New Jersey that talk like this today. Lol! I get what you're saying is still just a really odd thing to ask for me. People of different ethnicities ( black, white, Latino, asian, Italian) from different parts of the world and / or different states have different accents. Even in different parts of Canada, there are different accents, so I don't get their confusion. This is the only franchise that we follow the same characters for so long. We hey to watch the experience ALL the ups and downs of life and we grow to love them because of it. They can actually run this Creed franchise for just as long. The could follow Donnys daughter or go back to Rocky's grandson. Maybe they get married. Lol. The Rocky franchise has legs! I hope the power that be don't ruin it.
It all stems from their Patreon letting them down and insisting on Creed instead of the proper and right order of movies to watch. I forgive them because they honestly didn't know. If you're not familiar you have zero clue that Creed is a part of the Rocky franchise.
Pretty sure they're Canadian and pretty sheltered. There are thousands of movies out there. They've never seen Rocky so how would they know Creed is a part of the Rocky franchise? Again that falls on their Patreons giving them bad advice. The Patreons knew better. They didn't. Unfortunately all this clapback (and most likely bad numbers for their reaction to Creed 2. I didn't watch it. Annoyed with them that they continued) looks like they're not continuing with the franchise. Maybe better off....they don't seem to get it.
"Sometimes when you win, you really lose, and sometimes when you lose, you really win, and sometimes when you win or lose, you actually tie, and sometimes when you tie, you actually win or lose." Gloria Clemente
A night of firsts for both Apollo and Rocky, Apollo's first time being knocked down or going the distance and Rocky's first time getting his nose broken. Yes, Apollo came in not taking the fight seriously, but that knock down 30 seconds into the first round, woke him up really quick.
The ending wasn't Hollywood but realistic. He said he wasn't in Apollo's league. He wanted to earn his dignity and prove something to himself. Stallone's acting in the bed the night of the fight and his monologue at the end of Rambo are two incredible acting performances.
Regarding the end of the fight: Remember that earlier in the film Rocky said that 'no one had ever gone the distance with Creed before.' True Story: Rocky's dog, Butkus, was Stallone's actual dog. In fact, before Rocky was greenlit by the studio, Stallone was so poor that he sold Butkus in order to make rent. He quickly bought him back after he made some money.
It’s the perfect ending. Lost a split decision. Apollo got two judges and Rocky got one judge. He only wanted to prove he wasn’t a bum by going the distance.
If you watch the other Rockys (and you should - Rocky 2 is like if this movie had been given a 7 million dollar budget and had a proper production team behind it) you'll realize that Rocky is not really a big fan of defense. He doesn't block or dodge. He is known for taking a beating, which makes his opponent overconfident, but then he just doesn't go down and his opponent is exhausted and confused as to how this man is still standing. This isn't like a spoiler or anything, it's just his style of boxing.
“It’s so 70s but they wouldn’t do that now” yeah they would! Lol the point was that Rocky’s whole life he’s a loser at fighting, at working his jobs, friends etc and at this championship fight. But he won Adrian overall. She’s the spark that inspires him. He brought her out of her shell and she brought him out of his self hatred and self loathing. They all live in a poverty crime ridden environment with no hope. Rocky’s fight inspires the entire city. - and the cinematography is designed to mimic the documentary style and the fight footage of that era. I think towards the end y’all didn’t pay so much attention to how it ended which is why it jarred you so much.
The reason why Rocky doesn't block punches is the boxer that inspired Stallone to make the movie Chuck Wepner fought like that against Muhammad Ali and thats also where the underdog part of the movie came from and him losing.
That's what happens when you watch a shabby reboot like Creed BEFORE you watch the Oscar winning original. One of the greatest love stories put on film.
rocky is the one boxer you never want to fight because you can hit him with everything you have and he just keeps coming this is why creeds manager did not want the fight.
Rocky Marciano was one of the greatest heavy weights, some say the greatest, of all time. Never lost a fight. But he took some terrible beatings and I think that’s why Rocky looks up to him. Thanks for the really good reaction!
@@Vadermaul400 Well, like me you’ve probably followed boxing and Marciano is definitely going to come up over time. I had a body surfing accident in Southern California that ended my boxing career before my first scheduled pro fight. I’ve actually got a picture of Stallone with mine coach/manager. I still teach self-defense and boxing is still a big part of it.
You never noticed it, but the "screw you creepo' comment from little Marie, the girl he walked home... is the mum in Creed he gives a job to in his restaurant I also loved the way you always said things like ... why this, or how that, Creed was different/better. You need to remember that Rocky was all heart, not well educated, and wears his heart on his sleeve. These films are boxing films, but they are essentially love films and watching him and Adrian grow together, rely on each other and would do anything for each other.... hence why he's a broken man in Creed when she's dead, you would've felt it more if you watched them in the correct order
You guys smh....Apollo won the match. Rocky won because his goal was to "go the distance with Creed"...which is what he did. I don't get the confusion at the end of the movie. He literally says this right before the fight.
@@2KILLAVILLE yeah don't think that's happening, they've already watched creed 2 it's on Patreon and the RUclips cut will probably be this week coming. But I definitely agree with you watch the rest, 5 is a take it or leave it movie the rest of the Rocky franchise are solid solid flicks.
I bet you guys change your mind about the ending. Look at how Rocky was at the start of film compared with the end. A lonely, single loser with a crappy job and no direction. He wanted to go the distance with Creed and he did that. And he got his girl and at the final bell Adrian is all he cares about. Rocky achieving something in life but not winning the fight makes it a wonderful ending. Paulie and Adrian are great characters too with a great dynamic. Paulie is a selfish man who expects things he doesn't really deserve. He's a broken man who unfairly blames others, especially Adrian, for his life not turning out well. Adrian has this terrible shyness affliction that holds her back. Both Paulie and Adrian love and depend on each other but they loathe each other too. It's a really gritty dynamic that reflects reality for many people. Neither of them want to be in the life situation they find themselves in but they are stuck. Then Rocky comes into their lives and brings a bit of hope.

These two would see Creed before Rocky. Wtf...
Yeah...smh. They obviously have no idea.
His win was the thing that he said on the bad with Adrian, he said he just wanna stay in ring and not be knocked out, that was his objective and he got it
"What??!! that was it??"
Didn't you people hear Rocky when he said that he didn't expect to win the fight???!!!! All he wanted was to go the distance! Still be standing when the final bell rings!
Rocky and Adrian admitting their love for each other was the CHERRY ON TOP of Rocky going the distance!!
But you were
"in CREED this....."
"in CREED that...... "
Rocky Marciano on the poster was a real life boxer and world champion back in the 1950's
He’s the only heavyweight champ to retire with an undefeated record.
he did the impossible knocking down the champ and going the distance
Ahh man, you should do Rocky 2 next! In my opinion Rocky Balboa is the greatest movie character of all time.
NOT......if they will be bringing up CREED every 5 freaking minutes!!!! Lol
Didn't win because of love. He said he just wanted to go to distance to prove that he wasn't a nobody. He won cuz he went the distance.
Stallone is a legit underdog guy. He knew he wants to make it.
Jane needs to watch Rocky 2,3,and 4 before Creed 2
Fun Fact: When they filmed the kiss scene, Talia Shire had the FLU and didn't want to get Sly sick. That's why she held back so much. Lots of great behind-the-scenes stories with all these films.
He won to himself and Adrian because he went the distance. Nobody had ever done that with Creed before, remember?
the story continues in Rocky 2.
Sylvester in real like has a mouth accident which led him to talk like he’s talking
It's most motivating drama I'v ever seen. Watching it with pleasure again and again.
sharing bottles probably made us more resistant and healthier than today´s disinfected living, haha.
I seriously love watching movies with you guys btw.. You're the the kinda people I could have a beer with at an Applebee's or something lmao.
Jane I think ur over doing the who don’t push his shot if a female is shy then it takes time to open up to that person
This movie doesn't have the fancy polish that the Creed movies or even the later Rocky movies because it was made for only $1 million, the producer's had to put up their houses as collateral to get it made. Its low budget and it shows, but it's still a perfect movie and it won best picture.
The fact that you're making comparisons between Creed and Rocky is infuriating... You wouldn't watch Marvel's Infinity War before Iron Man...
" why does he talk like that?" " is that his accent?" " did they talk like that?"
Really? 😂😂
Tell us you've been nowhere without telling us you've been nowhere.
@Brian Hayes how do people who watch movies for a living NOT know Creed comes from Rocky? Lol, ok.
The movie ends with Rocky and Adrian saying I Love You to each other.
"Sometimes when you win, you really lose, and sometimes when you lose, you really win, and sometimes when you win or lose, you actually tie, and sometimes when you tie, you actually win or lose." Gloria Clemente
It's funny that she noticed the "acting punches" during the apollo fight.
Jane: "Are they supposedly hitting?"
Lol.
A night of firsts for both Apollo and Rocky, Apollo's first time being knocked down or going the distance and Rocky's first time getting his nose broken. Yes, Apollo came in not taking the fight seriously, but that knock down 30 seconds into the first round, woke him up really quick.
I was born in 1976 so i literally grew up with Rocky movies. The first time i saw the Creed movie i was in tears the whole time.
My parents came to Canada a bit after this, so I don't think they got swept into the Rocky movement. I'm enjoying the journey! -Jane
The ending wasn't Hollywood but realistic. He said he wasn't in Apollo's league. He wanted to earn his dignity and prove something to himself. Stallone's acting in the bed the night of the fight and his monologue at the end of Rambo are two incredible acting performances.
Wait til you see the evolution of ROCKY and ADRIAN's Love Story
Regarding the end of the fight: Remember that earlier in the film Rocky said that 'no one had ever gone the distance with Creed before.'
True Story: Rocky's dog, Butkus, was Stallone's actual dog. In fact, before Rocky was greenlit by the studio, Stallone was so poor that he sold Butkus in order to make rent. He quickly bought him back after he made some money.
One of my favorite love stories. Pretty good Mick & Rock impersonations.
You're skit/ad for the ridge wallet was so good I am going to get one now, very well done.
Thanks!! They're so good
ROCKY! ROCKY! ROCKY!
It’s the perfect ending. Lost a split decision. Apollo got two judges and Rocky got one judge. He only wanted to prove he wasn’t a bum by going the distance.
One of the best ad integrations I've ever seen
Rocky 2 picks up directly from the end of this movie.
Hey! Y'all intro skit was golden 😉👍
Rocky is one of the best love stories of all-time!
judging by her reaction about the street beer sharing, Rambo, the old-fashion tv, the girl seems much much younger than the dude, or much richer, LOL
She definitely seems sheltered lol
rocky is the one boxer you never want to fight because you can hit him with everything you have and he just keeps coming this is why creeds manager did not want the fight.
Rocky, Adrian awkward? Paulie an angry jerk? Do either of you understand REALISM in film, literature, sculpture, painting, etc.?
You gotta watch all of them especially if you are continuing the creed franchise
Rocky was our first date with my wife. Still together. Great reaction you two.
Rocky 3 is the best rocky movie. It shows how they become friends
Rocky Marciano was one of the greatest heavy weights, some say the greatest, of all time. Never lost a fight. But he took some terrible beatings and I think that’s why Rocky looks up to him. Thanks for the really good reaction!
I was getting so annoyed they thought he was Rocky's father. Lol how do you immediately jump to that conclusion? Ugh...smh
Good lord how this woman gets triggered over the date of Rocky and Adrian.
Alot of the younger generation does. Most reaction vids I've seen people are reacting that way. Different times.
Even at the time it's pretty cringe lol
In Rocky 2 Apollo does offer Rocky a rematch because in the public's eyes Rocky won, and Apollo couldn't stand for that.
You never noticed it, but the "screw you creepo' comment from little Marie, the girl he walked home... is the mum in Creed he gives a job to in his restaurant
I also loved the way you always said things like ... why this, or how that, Creed was different/better.
Wrong Rocky movie 😜 She wasn't in Creed. You're thinking of Rocky 6
Lol they haven't, unfortunately, watched that yet.
Burgess Meredith who plays Rockies manager, is in some of the best old twilight zones, you should watch those episodes.
You guys smh....Apollo won the match. Rocky won because his goal was to "go the distance with Creed"...which is what he did. I don't get the confusion at the end of the movie. He literally says this right before the fight.
Great reaction guys, very new subscriber
Definitely watch the other Rocky films so good.
They definitely need to watch Rock 2 - 4 before Creed 2
@@2KILLAVILLE yeah don't think that's happening, they've already watched creed 2 it's on Patreon and the RUclips cut will probably be this week coming.
But I definitely agree with you watch the rest, 5 is a take it or leave it movie the rest of the Rocky franchise are solid solid flicks.
@@evanreid6917 fuhhhhhh..ooo well then
Until around 1980, championship matches were 15 rounds. Until, I think, a Korean guy was killed in the ring. Then championship fights were 12 rounds.
The eyetalian stallion😮
The poster you are talking about is of Rocky Marciano. Who was heavyweight champion that beat Joe Lewis
