    When Tom Cruise says "There's a dead guy in it" after 39:57 I bet he's also describing how he feels inside after coming to terms with the fact that he cant save the love of his life and therefore is "dead" inside. 51:10 its probably been said 10 times, but that kiss wasn't scripted. Blunt thought it was a good place for a kiss and just did it.

    The Omega has the ability to reset a 24 hour day. So, all the previous resets Cage had was from after the invasion. When Cage, Rita, and J-squad go after the Omega it's BEFORE the attack so the final reset is 24 hours from the point of it's destruction. That puts the time early morning of the previous day when Cage was just arriving to meet with the General. Cage was able to reset the final time due to getting covered in the blue blood a split second before the Omega is completely dead.

    • @StewartCB
      @StewartCB Год назад +23

      That is the best explanation I have ever read. Thank-you for sharing. I thought that since Cage has the blue blood going forward he would reset when he dies, but there is no Omega so he will just die.

      Nope because he didn't wake at different times when he died at different times. What I think is that the first reset happened when the alpha died when Cage was in the helicopter but Cage didn't remember it because the alpha hadnt bled on him yet. Then the second or third or thousandth reset cage gets the blood on him when it gets to that point and steals the ability when the omega died everything reset to the very first death of of the alpha not cage.

  • @jvant4850
    @jvant4850 Год назад +92

    The way I think of it is that the Omega exists kinda outside of time, so even though he destroyed it in the future and returned to the past it was still gone because it doesn't exist in a linear way like we do.

    • @RedmoonIndustries
      @RedmoonIndustries Год назад +14

      This is how I explain it. When Cage first kills the Alpha with the claymore mine, it still dies at that time. So at the end when he kills the Omega, it still dies so the "enemy" can't fight since it does not have an Omega to command it.

    The reason the Mech suits looked so slow in the beginning is because they're brand new tech that everyone is still learning to use. Cage and Rita are able to do crazy maneuvers in the suits by the end because they have trained for literal months with zero fear of death. This let them find the true potential of the suit and their own bodies in a way very few people ever can.

    Such a fun reaction -- thanks, you guys! And for one of my favorite movies. To add my 2 cents, this last day was different because remember, Cage IMMEDIATELY went to HQ with Rita the day before to talk to the General and get the gadget. So when they ended the Omega it was still the previous 24-hour period and the battle hadn't even happened yet (which is when Cage usually reset -- or after it). So he got the one remaining chance from the dead Omega -- to restart the day where he was arriving on the chopper. But this time the dead Omega (and army) is still dead because it is a fixed point in time. Cage is alive but the Omega remains dead.

Since they started the last assault earlier in the morning and the reset takes you back 24 hours, that's why Cage was in the helicopter before his meeting instead of waking up on that pile of uniforms at the barracks.

    Something that occurred to me just now as a contributing factor to the landing being a disaster. Because she was able to reset the day at verdun, she was able to become very proficient using the suit since she had the time. But to everyone else it would like like she could get into it with very little training and be effective, which the press reports. Thus most of these troops either haven't had the time or necessary training which gets so many killed on the beach.

    • @YukoValis
      @YukoValis 11 месяцев назад

      Well think of this. The enemy could reset the day right? So how many times has the army been on that beach before Cage got the power? It could have been a hundred times where the enemy got better and better on that beach. Knowing how to hit the transports or having mimics hide in the sand to attack squads. That might be why one of the alphas was part of the front lines because if they died then it wasn't as a complete victory so the day would reset. I like to imagine cage could have faced that alpha a dozen times already to be quickly killed so that is why the alpha wasn't concerned.

      One doesn't have to completely desert the service to desert. He was guilty of "deserting his post". Though refusing to show is usually classified as dereliction of duty, since he had INTENT to remain away from said post permanently, it can be classified as desertion. Rare but ACCEPTIBLE UNDER THE UCMJ during a time of war. I know of a fellow who refused to be stationed in Okinawa with me, he said he would accept being posted stateside or even Europe but not Cuba or other places... He was LUCKY it was the late 90's and it was not a time of war. He got a dishonorable discharge for refusing an order during a time of peace.
      An officer can be striped of their commission if court marshaled and serving time; they are demoted to E-1. Once there, it would be impersonating an officer.
      Also, on the side - If you used a PROGRAM to gain a commission (MECEP, ROTC, etc). If you "quit" or fail to complete any obligations to retain your commission, you can finish them as enlisted.

    • @killermist
      @killermist Год назад

      "A deserter, impersonating an officer" is a plausible "how he was trying to escape" mechanism. We know that it was blackmail, and that the general countered the blackmail with his whole toolbox.

    So the first time he gets the blue alien blood on him it creates a 'save point' 24 hours in the past, so every time he dies he gets reset to that point.
    He loses the save point ability when he gets the blood transfusion.
    They leave before the invasion starts to kill the omega and when he gets the blood on him again it creates a new save point 24 hours back. This new save point is before the first one because he died many hours before he originally died at the beginning of the movie.

You should definitely check it out! (Fun Fact: Andie's character is named Rita like Emily Blunt's character in this movie.) 😁
    Another movie called 12:01 came out in 1993 as well, and it was based on a short story written 20 years earlier by Richard Lupoff called "12:01 P.M." but few people saw that movie or its 1990 predecessor by the same name. As far as I know, this story story originated the idea of a day repeating for someone (but I've never read it or watched either movie based off of it, so I don't know if they'd be worth your time to react to or not).

    The thing with movies like this is, trying to explain things messes with it. Generally, trying to explain it, ruins it. Like horror movies, often the best monsters are the ones you don't see, or cannot see.
    That being said, Cage took the power and every reset he restarted when he woke up. He wakes up at two points, on the chopper flying into London. The day after when he wakes up in the Camp. These are fixed points, I guess, to use a 'Doctor Who' concept. Cage is the one who resets, though he uses the power of the Omega to do it, and he does it by dying, or the act of dying makes him reset, maybe?
    So, when he gets the power from the Omega itself, and dies/resets, it is the night before d-day and so his reset is the next previous time he wakes up, the chopper into London. And, of course, he has just killed the Omega, 'burst of energy from Paris....has taken away the enemy's ability to fight'. What that means? (Shrug) That is going too deep into a plot that was never meant to be that deep. You get lost going too deep; especially if it not that deep to begin with.
    It is a movie plot, after all. 'They all live, (happily?), ever after......blah, blah, blah. Don't think about it too much.

    Ending: my assumption is that the Omega is temporally linked; if it dies at any time, it dies at all times. However, if that were truly the case, the invasion wouldn't even have happened, given how the Omega would have been dead before the invasion even happened. But the point of a movie is to entertain, not to be temporally consistent, so...

    It's fascinating how people watching a film don't have the patience to wait for the explanations the films will give. If we want to understand a film we watch it attentively until the end without chattering to say nothing!

    One thing I've always wondered is, at the end of the movie the day had reset to the morning before etc. But what happens when he dies years later of old age, illness etc? Will he revert back to that morning again or do deaths after 24 hours not count?

    • @johnhoney657

      No Omega to reset time any more. So he just dies.

    As always, very entertaining Reaction to Edge of Tomorrow, good folks.
    Here’s my take for the explanation of the finale “Reset” scene.
    The day wasn’t ever resetting, Dr. Carter misconceived the Omega Mimic’s power was reversing time when an Alpha Mimic dies. The temporality only involved telepathy.
    When an Alpha Mimic loses consciousness upon death the Omega Mimic telepathically transfers its experiences back to its last state of unconsciousness.
    As detailed in the movie, the dying Alpha Mimics lost their power to Cage and Vertaski assuming it upon absorbing their blood as they were dying.
    Upon losing consciousness at his death, the Omega Mimic transfers Cage's experiences back to his last state of unconsciousness before his and the Alpha Mimic’s mutual deaths, awaking arriving at the FOB.
    The slain Omega Mimic lost its power to Cage assuming it upon his absorbing its blood as he succumbed to the guard Alpha Mimic's fatal goring, and Cage transferred his experiences back to himself at his last state of unconsciousness before his and the Omega Mimic's mutual deaths.
    The reason why the finale scene wasn’t Cage awaking arriving at the FOB but on the flight to his meeting with General Brigham is because seemingly the Omega Mimic’s power being temporal means its loss transferred back in time, consequently rendering Alpha Mimics incapable of relaying their experiences to their past selves, so the battle in London in which Cage had his mutual death with an Alpha Mimic never happens. Timey-whimey cause and effect.

      Was this written by AI? Some very notable errors exist in this narrative. Protag wasn't Farrell. (that's pretty big). Some rest mimics (for lack of a better word) other analysis already on youtube.

I have actually been trying to get them to make us an affiliate so I can directly link all my tops with a discount code, but even without it, it was $10 CAD. Message me on Instagram if you want the link to the exact top - they have a million versions you have to sift through and look at the real pics people post. My insta is Jane_Vickers_Realtor
