    Buy or Rent the Movie - • Star Trek
    The greatest adventure of all time begins with Star Trek, the incredible story of a young crew’s maiden voyage onboard the most advanced starship ever created: the U.S.S. Enterprise. On a journey filled with action, comedy and cosmic peril, the new recruits must find a way to stop an evil being whose mission of vengeance threatens all of mankind. The fate of the galaxy rests in the hands of bitter rivals. One, James Kirk (Chris Pine), is a delinquent, thrill-seeking Iowa farm boy. The other, Spock (Zachary Quinto), was raised in a logic-based society that rejects all emotion. As fiery instinct clashes with calm reason, their unlikely but powerful partnership is the only thing capable of leading their crew through unimaginable danger, boldly going where no one has gone before.

    Spock and Uhura's romance does come as a bit of a surprise in this movie. But it isn't a MAJOR surprise, it goes with quite a few things that happened early in the original series. Uhura openly flirted with Spock a few times, they had a musical combo thing going in one episode, and she actually learned to play the Vulcan Harp.

As I remember, the original Constitution Class Enterprise only carried a small handful of shuttlecraft (25 at most), so unless the Kelvin's shuttlecraft were like a Tardis, only a fraction of the crew could use them to escape. 1:52 Mark! Lord Kalvin, was a scientist who for one invented his method of measuring Solar Heat with his own thermometer. But this is also Abrams way of carrying on his tradition of placing one of his grandfather's names in his productions. 😊

    Kirk and Uhura didn't really have a romantic story line. They did kiss once due to being manipulated by an alien race, (caused quite a stir for some people, was the first bi-racial kiss on TV) but she was one of the few women Kirk did not hit on. I think he valued her too much as crew for that type of thing. There were some hints of her flirting with Spock, but only a little. I think she liked to tease him. No, if there was anyone that was seriously hinted at as an OG romantic partner for her... it was actually Scotty.

    7:58 Wow, I’ve often thought that the guy playing the traffic cop must have been thrilled. He’s a complete unknown and he gets a cool glory shot all to himself (this is probably supposed to imply that Kirk is in a lot of trouble).

    I feel like a lot of people miss the reference at the end of the movie when old Spock just mutters to himself "thrusters on full". Although I did notice Jane got a puzzled look on her face when he said it.
    If you want to get the reference you need to go back and watch Star Trek 2 The wrath of Khan.

    Yeah, Vulcans have a smug superiority to them. It's not like it's without cause, their children can do what we consider University level math. They can tell you when an event took place down to the second with ease.

    7:24 Mark! Originally "Johnny" was meant to be James's brother "George"! But during the editing process he lost an older brother, but gained a friend instead. 😮

    • @JimmieRayGiboney
      @JimmieRayGiboney 9 месяцев назад +2

      @robbob5302 ! No. George was the runaway, and James took the prized antique "Cheverlot Corvette" from their paternal uncle and stepfather "Frank" if I recall right, to either bring him back or join him. But then it got changed to an act of defiance joy ride, and the walker was his best friend instead.
      "Narced"? Thanks to the "Nokia" device, the car was trackable, and Frank would know where his car was and who took it and why. 😁
      I'm not sure about the name "Frank "! I only recently learned that the actor who played the "LAPD" officer in "Heroes" and played a "Star Wars" character and a commander in "Star Trek Beyond" had also been the uncle-stepfather, but was reduced to a voice-only role. 🤔

    On the show, Uhura would try to flirt with Spock from time to time, and he would usually not recognize it as flirting because he tried to be unemotional - it was one of the running jokes. So no, they weren’t a thing in the show, but fans of the show can appreciate why they were in the movies

    This movie did everything right to me. They rebooted the franchise but choose not to hinder the original. The writers were incredibly smart writing it as the original being the prime timeline and the reboot being the Kelvin timeline. That was smart. And this movie genuinely gets better and better overtime. I even think it's quite underappreciated. The trilogy itself, is very consistent. Yes, the sequels weren't as good as the first in my opinion but that doesn't mean it's not good.
    And the CGI, sure rough on a few edges but was very convincing for when it came out in 2009. 15 years on and it's still the best film in the WHOLE franchise in my opinion. Even better than the original series and Wrath of Khan.
    Credit to Michael Giacchino as well. He really elevated the score.
