Fun Fact: The script for this move was based on a spec script Jonathan Hensleigh had originally conceived as a Brandon Lee action film before the actor's death, with the working title Simon Says. The script was considered for the fourth installment of the Lethal Weapon series before being picked up for Die Hard. Also he placed one of the scenes near his New York apartment so he could watch them film from his bedroom window.
At 36:17, Jane starts to figure it out, but the movie edits out the method for actually solving the puzzle. Basically, you fill the 5 gallon jug and use it to fill the 3 gallon jug, leaving you with just 2 gallons in the 5 gallon jug. Then you empty the 3 gallon jug completely and pour the 2 gallons into the 3 gallon jug. Finally, you refill the 5 gallon jug and pour one gallon into the 3 gallon jug - filling it completely - leaving exactly 4 gallons in the 5 gallon jug, puzzle solved. But the filmmakers/editors decided it was too convoluted or confusing to explain, and to be fair, there's more than one way to solve that problem, so they just skipped it and emphasized Zeus' racism instead. But they do show the end of the puzzle by having them pour out one gallon from the 5 gallon, leaving just 4 gallons, so they DID use the method above, even though it wasn't shown in its entirety.
Yeah, the water formula was pretty easy to figure out. Of course I don't know if I could have done it under that kind of pressure, but the one that I still don't get is how they related 21 out of 42 to Presidents.
What has four legs and is always ready to travel? An elephant always has his trunk? McClane sees "Nord Des Lignes" (North of the Border) on the bottom of the aspirin bottle. Nord Des Lignes is a large truck stop just over the border in Quebec. McClane knew that was where Simon bought the aspirin and took a shot that he would go back there. The scene was actually filmed at the TA Travel Center in Jessup Maryland.
Fun fact the actress who played the mute is actually from California and she's a singer . They made her character a mute because they didn't have enough time for her to learn how to speak German so they made her mute
36:00 When you fill the big jug, it holds 5 gallons. By dumping all you can from that into the smaller jug, the big one has 2 gallons left in it. Dump out the smaller jug. Move the 2 gallons left from the big one to the smaller one. Now the small jug can fit 1 gallon more, and the big jug is empty. Refill the big jug from the fountain and dump one gallon into the smaller one, so that it's full. Since you only removed one gallon from the full larger jug, it leaves 4 gallons to match the amount you need.
I actually worked at 74th and Broadway on the 4th floor of the Apple Bank building and watched them film the pay phone 72nd St scene over the course of two days. That was a real pay phone. A lot of those people were not extras. They taped off the payphone during filming but those are real people going in and out of the station. And yes at that time on 72nd St you could look down through the grates and see the train. Except for the obvious fake yellow phone on the train it's one of the more realistic portrayals of the NYC subway on film. Also met both of them on a random day when some office peeps went to lunch at DALLAS BBQ and they were both there. Mr. Jackson was holding court at a booth like a boss. Mr. Willis was very low-key but they were both really great and accommodating to every person who came up to them. Oh and also ... loved the reaction! You guys are so great.
"There's a difference between not liking your brother and not caring when some dumb Irish flatfoot drops him out of a window" - Jeremy Irons is great in this.
He always plays a native american in the movies because he is one .His name is Graham Greene and he is a member of a first nation reservation in Canada. Rarely gets the starring role except in Dances with wolves.
What I love about this movie is that the bad guy, while not at all good, isn't entirely evil either. "I'm a soldier, Mr. McClane. Not a monster." He wasn't. It was so refreshing.
@@dstreet4599 Plus they didn't want to shoot the police officer.. it was s substitute that did it. Even the store in the beginning was empty. BUT they would have definitely killed a lot of people on that 3 train if McClane hadn't found the bomb..
METHOD 1: Pour 3 into 5, pour 3 into 5 leaving 1 in 3, empty 5, pour 1 into 5, pour 3 into 5. 4 gallons in 5. METHOD 2: pour 5 into 3, leaving 2 in 5. empty 3, pour 2 from 5 into 3 leaving 2 in 3. pour 5 into 3 filling 3 and leaving 4 in 5.
36:00 Fill the 5 gallon. Pour it into the empty 3 gallon, you have exactly 2 gallons left. Dump the 3 gallon tank pour the 2 gallon from the 5 into the 3 gallon tank (the 3 gallong tank now holds 2 gallons of water). Fill the 5 all the way up again and pour 1 gallon into the remaining 3 gallon tank and the 5 gallon tank now holds 4 gallons of water.
Or fill the 3 and pour in 5, then fill 3 again and pour in 5 again to top it off, and it leaves 1 gallon in 3. Then empty 5 gallon, pour remaining 1 gallon from 3 in now empty 5 and you have 1 gallon in 5 and empty 3. Fill 3 and pour it in 5 and you get 4 gallons. It's really not a difficult puzzle, I don't know why people have problem with it.
Water fountain puzzle. We did this exact puzzle as kids in elementary school. Fill the 3 gallon and pour into the empty 5. Fill the 3 again and pour a second time into the 5. This movie was actually supposed to be much more violent, but the city was trying to change its image of being a violent city. So the script had to be revised several times before it got approved
The bomb that went off on the train was always supposed to go off, even if John had joined Zeus, because as you know they needed the explosion on that spot of the train specifically for the heist and if it had taken out John & Zeus thats a positive to Simon...LOVE you guys and the reactions. Yes, a medallion is what cab drivers in New York used to pay almost a million dollars for in order to operate a taxi. There's a documentary about medallions and taxi drivers. Let's just say, it doesn't end well for a lot of these drivers.
On any Die Hard with a Vengeance reaction I NEED to recommend the movie 16 Blocks. In my mind, it is the unofficial final Die Hard movie. Bruce Willis plays a down and out, close to retirement cop and it was directed by Richard Donner, the director of the Lethal Weapon movies. It is SO good and doesn't get nearly enough credit as a GREAT Bruce Willis movie!
The one thing I don't like about this movie is that it breaks up John & Holly. Especially after the first two movies spent so much time having John go through so much to save her. But, the actress didn't want to come back. Other than that, it nearly ties with the first Die Hard for me. Which I prefer between them really depends on which I've seen more recently.

The best description of he movie I ever heard was "It's a Bruce Willis movis where Geena Davis plays Bruce's role. She kicks butt.
The film cuts away from the key part to solving the water jug puzzle. So you fill the 5 all the way, transfer to the 3 till it's full leaving 2g in the 3 with 1g empty space _but then you empty the 5_ and fill it all the way up again, so when you transfer till the 3 is full this time, it will only remove 1g from the 5 and hey presto you have your 4 gallons.
with the water jugs: you fill the 5 gallon jug, pour it into the 3 gallon jug until that's full - leaves you with 2 gallons in the 5. Now, empty out the 3 gallon jug and pour the 2 gallons from the 5 into the 3. So there's 2 gallons in the 3 and now none in the 5. Fill up the 5 gallon jug. Fill up the 3 gallon jug from the 5. The 3 gallon had 2 already in it so it can only take 1 gallon. So that will leave you with 4 gallons remaining in the 5 gallon jug.
Any or every person has to face his or her own demons, and John McClane most definitely faced his.....in the form of a vengeful brother of the man he dropped out from an open window of Nakatomi Tower building in the Golden State(California).😬
The main villian (Jeremy Irons) is not the same as Malfoy's father although I suppose their is a similarity. I used to confuse Irons with John Malkovich. Jason Isaacs is Malfoy's father. Also played a decent Captain Hook.
Ok the jug of water puzzle. Fill up the 5 gallon jug full. Then pour water into the 3 gallon jug from the full 5 gallon until the 3 gallon jug is full. This leaves 2 gallons in the 5 gallon jug (5-3=2) Then dump the 3 gallon jug. Then pour the 2 gallons in the 5 gallon jug into the now empty 3 gallon jug. The 5 gallon is empty and the 3 gallon has 2 gallons of water and 1 gallon of air. Fill the 5 gallon jug full and then poor water from the 5 gallon into the 3 gallon jug. It will take 1 gallon to fill the 3 gallon jug which currently has 2 gallons of water and 1 gallon of air. (2+1=3). This leaves 4 gallons in the 5 gallon jug. (5-1=4)
how is an elephant always ready to travel? it has a trunk. my favorite part is the tune of "the ants go marching" plays while the thieves steal the gold.
I think if Zeus did try jumping on to the boat from the bridge, it still would've ended up worse for him. LOL, they should've had a post-credit scene where we see Zeus's shop still intact, LOL. The Die Hard trilogy is 1 of the rare batch of movies where the 3 movies of the trilogy are all just as great, if not even better, as the original. Die Hard trilogy and Lethal Weapon trilogy always come to mind immediately when I think of the best trilogies. The Last Boy Scout is probably my other most favorite Bruce Willis movie beside the Die Hard movies. I think J.V. would love, if he never yet saw them, the G.I. Joe movie with Channing Tatum & its sequel with The "Rock & the TMNT movie from 2014 & its sequel.

Laurence Fishburne (Morpheus himself) turned down two big roles that went to Samuel Jackson. Tarantino wanted Fishburne for Pulp Fiction, but his representatives convinced him not to do it. He was also the first choice to star opposite Bruce Willis in this film, but his salary demands were too high. The rest, as they say, is history.
Water Riddle Answer: Fill 5 Gallon Pour into 3 Gallon leaving 2 behind. Empty 3 Gallon Pour 2 Gallon into 3 Gallon Fill 5 Gallon Pour One Gallon into empty space if 3 Gallon filling it. Now you have 4 in 5 Gallon.
Samuel- he didn't say HeyZeus He said Hey Zeus My name is zeus as in father Apollo mount Olympias Don't Mess with me Or I'll I will shove lightning up your butt zeus !!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂 That's my favorite line of Samuel Jackson in this movie
there is a weird mistake that happens when Simon says that a bomb is located in one of many schools, Zeus children were at school by that time of the movie and he knows that, but he didn´t say anything about it or you can see him worried about it, he goes there and there with McClane but he never mentions his children to be at school, then he reacts when he learnt that the bomb was in his children´s school, a thing that is really weird cause there were 1446 schools and there is a BIG casuality that that bomb was placed in Zeus children´s school! and you will probably tell me ¨he placed that bomb when he knew Zeus was helping McClane¨ I don´t think so, Simon´s plan was designed before, all was prepared for his mission.
I may be mistaken, but Zeus wasn't in the van when Simon revealed there was a bomb in a school. John just asked him who the 21st President was, but didn't tell him why he was asking. In addition, the school janitor told the police the bomb was delivered that morning. So it is likely that Simon, who had eyes on John, researched who Zeus was and sent the bomb to that school specifically. To keep Zeus "motivated" to play his games.

I think it's one of the most difficult to recognize, I think only a Hungarian recognize a Hungarian accent. One of my favourite episodes in Die Hards. Very good trio for the main roles. Love you guys!😊
Fill the three gallon jug. Pour the three gallons into the five gallon jug. Fill the three gallons again. Pour water from the three gallon jug into the remaining two gallon space of the five gallon jug. You now have a full five gallon jug and a three gallon jug with one gallon in it. Empty the five gallon jug. Transfer the remaining one gallon from the three gallon jug into the five gallon jug. Fill the three gallon jug. Pour the three gallons into the five gallon jug with the one one gallon already in it. You now have a five gallon jug with four gallons in it. 😉
They referenced the phone scene in the incredibles. They even made the cop look like the actor who played the cop in this movie. And sam jackson was in the Incredibles as well.

Fun Facts: The sign John is wearing was edited in post to put the racist words on it but the real sign said something else for obvious reasons. Also the stealing of the gold was so realistic that the real place had to change their security procedures to stop what happened in the movie from happening in real life because it was possible to do the exact thing.

This is my favorite of all the Die Hard movies!
A big happy tenth to you both!! My favourite giddy couple on here for sure.
I hope you get to the fourth DH outing as well, it does have it's moments.
Any or every person has to face his or her own demons, and John McClane most definitely faced his.....in the form of a vengeful brother of the man he dropped out from an open window of Nakatomi Tower building in the Golden State(California).😬
14:30 No, It's Pulp Fiction, no dime. My Samuel runs through many films. His king Is Jules
The main villian (Jeremy Irons) is not the same as Malfoy's father although I suppose their is a similarity. I used to confuse Irons with John Malkovich. Jason Isaacs is Malfoy's father. Also played a decent Captain Hook.
28:25 We had cell phones in the 90's, they were not ubiquitous. America did lag behind, you caught right up
We make fun of them so we make fun of you Canucks
Jv the kid who played Zeus youngest nephew is in the black adam movie and in the invisible man movie. He also was in the 5th die hard movie
Imagine John McLene was your Superior Officer and he had to show you the ropes 😂
“No more head punches”😂😂
What has four legs and is always ready to travel?. An elephant. (They have four legs and always have a “trunk” (luggage))
Jv and Jane the actor officer Rick was in the first die hard , if you go back to the first he's the cop sitting next to Sergeant al Powell
They were closer to the roof. The kids were on the 4th or 5th floor.
An elephant has a trunk, so it is always ready to travel. It's a pun on "trunk".
An elephant has 4 legs and are always ready to travel cause it's got a trunk.😂
Ok the jug of water puzzle. Fill up the 5 gallon jug full.
Then pour water into the 3 gallon jug from the full 5 gallon until the 3 gallon jug is full. This leaves 2 gallons in the 5 gallon jug (5-3=2)
Then dump the 3 gallon jug.
4:40 - 4:46 Die Hard 2 got retconed, so Die Hard 3 is a direct sequel to Die Hard 1
Am I the only one who saw “The Incredibles” throwback when Zeus was dealing with the nervous cop in the subway?
how is an elephant always ready to travel? it has a trunk.
my favorite part is the tune of "the ants go marching" plays while the thieves steal the gold.
The elephany joke. What has 4 legs and is always ready to travel. It's an elehpant because he always has a trunk.
Elephant has got a trunk, in which he can carry the clothes and other things that are needed on the trip.
33:35 Elephants have a "trunk".
Edit: Happy Anniversary 🎉🎉🎉
at the end Jane was singing Austin Powers and JV was singing James Bond lol
20:20 Yeah, it was the 90's
Sö
You guys should do SPEED with Keanu Reeves. Also would love to see the mission:impossibles and james bond series
5:30 Dare to do this now. I love the 90's, major movies broke ground.
Now, micro aggression? Sweetheart, we have a bunch for you. We don't care.
The 90's broke the formula with ID4 and this at the center.
Our gen are happy, your gen keep calling us to battle.
And to think, Laurence Fishburne was a regular on Pee-Wee's Playhouse as Cowboy Curtis.
He was also supposed to, according to the director, play Powell in the original
Happy anniversary, y'all! I so enjoy your reaction videos. Hope the anniversary was amazing.
Water Riddle Answer:
Fill 5 Gallon
Pour into 3 Gallon leaving 2 behind.
Empty 3 Gallon
Pour 2 Gallon into 3 Gallon
Fill 5 Gallon
Pour One Gallon into empty space if 3 Gallon filling it.
Jesús, the Spanish name, is what John thought they called Zeus.
there is a weird mistake that happens when Simon says that a bomb is located in one of many schools, Zeus children were at school by that time of the movie and he knows that, but he didn´t say anything about it or you can see him worried about it, he goes there and there with McClane but he never mentions his children to be at school, then he reacts when he learnt that the bomb was in his children´s school, a thing that is really weird cause there were 1446 schools and there is a BIG casuality that that bomb was placed in Zeus children´s school!
and you will probably tell me ¨he placed that bomb when he knew Zeus was helping McClane¨ I don´t think so, Simon´s plan was designed before, all was prepared for his mission.
The one guy who plays native American in every movie is also Canadian.
elephants have a trunk, so they are always ready to travel
Great reaction. Jane, Jane, Jane, chef’s kiss for wearing that shirt. Justin, all I can say is, you da man! Happy 10 year Anniversary. Justin, it’s now time for Jane to give you a “Happy Anniversary Reaction”, eh. Justin, you know what to do, just don’t wake your kids.
No reviewer has ever gotten the four legs and ready to travel. It’s an elephant because an elephant has four legs and a trunk
The younger nephew of Zeus is Hardison from the TV show Leverage.
Being a former Marine I don’t think the bullets from a 9mm berreta could penetrate a truck door like that. It wouldn’t sound like that either. Looks cool though.
This teaches us all that even with a hangover, you can still save the day lol
What has four legs & is always ready to travel: It's an elephant, Jane, bc it always has it's "trunk" with it..🙃
I watch "Top Gun as a kid and I love "Top Gun Maverick. I have in 4K. And I love the "Mission Impossible franchise. I would really love to watch those spectacular movies with you two.
This was definitely shot in NYC. It was a big deal and they shut down a lot of blocks while filming. I think it was one of the biggest NYC productions until I Am Legend came along.
This was not in a studio
Fun fact: many movies have Hungarian references, but very few are correct. Targo - left hand of Simon - isn't a Hungarian name and he hasn't got Hungarian accent.
😉
Congrats on your anniversary
Good movie, great pick!
They referenced the phone scene in the incredibles. They even made the cop look like the actor who played the cop in this movie. And sam jackson was in the Incredibles as well.
5:15 - This is the same lady who was in the movie coming to America.. Toward the end of the movie, when Semi was trying to convince the girl to marry him, he got off the train to chase her. That's when this lady got in front of him and said, "If you are really a prince, I will marry you." to which he gave her the earrings.
Ms Birdie Hale.. a great NYC character actress. She was also in Juice. She passed away some years back.
So was Sam Jackson.
2:33 and already figured it out huh?
Must be a new record; well done.
Everybody gets confused at the riddle about the elephant. Elephants have trunks. Get it?
13:50 Guys! Respect! Greatings from Hungary
They changed it because of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
?
Happy Anniversary you two. Love this movie.
Some people had cell phones then, usually law enforcement!
Fun fact: Samuel L. Jackson actually made a movie called “The Samaritan”
jane was singing the austin powers theme. the one that plays during the openings.
Murder at 1600 has an underrated elevator scene
