Glad to know I'm not alone! Saw it first in 1997 in the age of 4. I'm now 31 and it is still my favorite movie of all time. That first experience changed me.
This movie is AMAZING!!!!! It was the very first time I've seen actress Milla Jovovich on TV- it also serves as my first memory of her, five years before she was Alice in the Resident Evil movie franchise, and practically her marriage to Paul W.S. Anderson, whom she has daughters by, one of them who portrayed young Natasha Romanoff in Black Widow!!!!😉
I really liked this movie when it first came out, despite Chris Tucker irritating the hell out of me. Bought it when it hit DVD, and every time I watched it I liked him more and more until I finally realized he's the absolute best thing in the entire movie.
I love this film! I’m 45 and I’ve watched at least 20 different reactions to this film and, my man, you are the first person to notice/mention the legendary Tricky as Zorg’s assistant. I was young and American (still am) when Tricky was blowing up in the 90’s. But, I’d dig through the comments and not one person would recognize him…much like DJ Goldie in Lock, Stock & 2 Smoking Barrels. Anyway, just wanted to give props where they were due. Great review. Ps. You guys should be one of the first to review The Way of the Gun. Take itnto consideration. Thanks!
Besson directed this futuristic French fantasy, releasing it in 1997. Initially panned by critics and the general public alike, it eventually became a cult film before settling into the beloved classic it is taken as today. Besson produced a new SF French fantasy exactly 20 years later in 2017, "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets". Set even further into the future, it features a lot more alien races, a lot more alien cultures, and an exceptional opening montage that explains the founding and growth of the City. Just as with "The Fifth Element", the 2017 film was a struggle for critics and the general audience to grasp, so was panned. Still, it's been growing on people and is beginning to move out of its cult category and into classic. I highly recommend reacting to it. But back to "The Fifth Element". The part of the Diva was played by Besson's then wife (song provided by an opera singer and electronically manipulated); Leeloo was played by Besson's new flame Milla Jovovich, a former model who went on to such things as the Resident Evil franchise, "UltraViolet", the Zoolander franchise, and a number of other films, primarily SF and action flicks. I can't help but see parallels between well-known French filmmaker Roger Vadim and well-known French filmmaker Luc Besson. Vadim made "Barbarella" in 1968, a futuristic sexy interplanetary romp, starring Vadim's new flame, young newcomer Jane Fonda. The main difference is Vadim's film was more cartoonish softcore porn while Besson's film had more substance and creativity, including social and political commentary. Besson also used great action intercutting. The 'Princess Leia buns' were an intentional jab at "Star Wars". The head lab technician was played by Christopher Fairbank, who played the pawn shop owner who threw Quinn ('Star Lord') out when he learned Ronan was looking for the Orb Quinn was trying to pawn in the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" film. Props to Gary Oldman, who always disappears into his characters. Interestingly, Zorg and Dallas never meet, even though Dallas works for Zorg's taxi service and compete to get the four Element Stones. I love how veteran actor Ian Holm, the priest Cornelius (Bilbo Baggins, "Brazil", a number of Shakespeare films, etc; RIP) flubs his line and addresses Corbin Dallas as 'Willis'; Bruce corrects him, Ian readdresses Bruce correctly, and neither break character. AND THEY KEPT IT IN THE FILM! LOVE IT! So fun! Love the reaction, the engagement; great job! Pease consider reacting to 2017's "Vaerian and the City of a Thousand Planets".
Costumes were designed by world renown designer Jean Paul Gaultier, famous for his punk fashion aesthetic. We got a close look at the costuming from this movie when came to one of our local museums. We had to get shooed back because we got too close as we inspected his work because it was relieving to see that a big name designer like him still had mistakes in the clothes here and there (like busted rivets, for example). We were just getting into our second or third fashion magazine at the time. He's one of my designer wife's idols.
Milla Jovovich (Leeloo) was indeed a supermodel, and also a singer/songwriter, but her acting career took off before her singing career (though some of her songs were good). I think this movie sort of started her career as an action star, and she went on to do the Resident Evil movie series, Ultraviolet, and some others, though she's done serious dramatic roles, too.
The creator of Fifth Element also wrote and directed Leon: The Professional. Gary Oldman's part in that movie is great. Your reaction would be interesting.
Since you’ve asked for Sci-Fi recommendations - I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the TV Series: Battlestar Galactica (2004) (I’ve watched all seasons THREE times already!
Oh babes are YOU the 5th element, great reaction. Chris was casted after they wanted Prince, the ask him to wear a dress … he said no but was ok with the leopard print xx
I remember clearly when I saw the trailer for this movie on a friends house, we first tought it was a live action Heavy Metal movie, just for the flying taxi. We were kinda dissapointed at first, but then we realize it looked cool.
The director Luc Besson acually wanted Prince to play the roll of Ruby Rhod but he turned the roll down. So when Chris Tucker was going to do the roll Luc told him to do it like Prins would have done it. The divine language spoken by Leeloo was invented by Luc Besson together with Milla Jovovich, who had a little trouble learning and developing it, Milla already spoke 4 languages fluently. The divine language has 400 words.
@@DefenestrateYourself wow someone who knows perfect english, sorry but my first, second or third language isn't english. I'm allowed to make mistakes, I'm sure you never made any.
I remember seeing the first trailer in the theaters. Bruce Willis was not cast yet and he didn't appear in it. What is sad is because the movie didn't do well a lot of the costumes were destroyed. Luc Besson also did Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. It is based on a French comic. I like it and it is a beautiful world like the 5th Element. I think people are too hard on it but a fun movie to check out.
this is definitely a re-upload, I wasn't quite sure when I first started watching but I am sure now. I recommend: deep blue sea police academy (all 4 movies)
@goldenageofdinosaurs7192 , That WAS my point, in a facetious way... an act so reprehensible is portrayed to our children as normal, even necessary, to find your one true love. Sorry if it came across as if I was condoning the act!
Jane and Jv , The actress who played lilo played the main character in the resident evil movie franchise. She also did an episode of " married with children" . Her daughter played young Natasha in the black widow . And yes she started out as a model.
29:02 the smoking has a purpose for the climatic ending. 34:23 Bruce Willis hadn’t heard the song before and his reaction is real. He was really moved by the song. The actress playing the diva had to learn the dance and lipsync in a couple months cause the original person backed out.
One of the funniest and one of the best Sci-fi Action movies ever made! Before Chris Tucker played the role of Rudy Rodd, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Prince, and Michael Jackson were considered for the role, as the character was a compilation of all four flamboyant rock stars.
10:10 It feels European is what it is. The costumes and art styles used are more like the British and other European comic books like Judge Dredd with outrageous characters like Ruby Rod. Also the look is also along the lines of Warhammer 40,000 with impossibly large and weird guns and armor.
Tucker was told not to take this role. It wouldn't be good for his career and he got clowned on by a lot of celebrity friends for it but everyone loved him

By far my favorite Chris Tucker role! He was soooo good in here 😂

My thought when they showed at the end a 2nd moon similar in size was, "Oh, it happened before. So that is where our moon came from."

Yay!!! Thanks for re-uploading! I'm so excited to watch this again with you two!
Thanks so much for fixing the audio.
No problem
Luc Besson was a teenager when he wrote this film, which explains a lot
i recommend you :
- Death Becomes Her (1992) Bruce Willis
- Shanghai Noon (2000) Jackie Chan
- Zoolander (2001) Milla Jovovich
The jackal Bruce Willis
Death becomes her is such an underrated movie. Not enough people react to it
This is what patreon is for...
Death Becomes Her ok Shanghai Noon YES! comedy action.
One of Chris Tucker's best roles. I love this movie.
Oooh…have you done Galaxy Quest yet? That’s a good one.
I can hear JV laughing now if you watch “Friday”

4:48 - Yes, definitely watch Friday (1995).
You should definitely watch all the Friday movies. Lol
This going to be fun. Watch all the Friday films in order.

Yes! The movie about ghosts.
Loved this movie. With Bruce Willis, so funny and quirky.

Fun fact: Corben never meets with Zorg in this movie.
Good point. Corben DOES get fired by Zorg, though. :)
I think honestly Ruby Rhodd is the best thing in this movie. Chris Tucker seriously gave that role his all, he should have had his own spinoff
I remember clearly when I saw the trailer for this movie on a friends house, we first tought it was a live action Heavy Metal movie, just for the flying taxi. We were kinda dissapointed at first, but then we realize it looked cool.
Those soldiers aren't dead. They are simply chilling :)
Hell yeah you should watch Friday
The 5th Element is love 😊
Also yes, the black guy with the British accent that works for Zorg is a musician. Tricky. He was a trip-hop artist.
THINK THINK THINK. BILLY DIDNT examine the professor he only assumed he was dead. And only the alien was trapped in the room
costumes by Jean-Paul Gaultier! and all the ‘flight attendants’ were runway models

Disney didn't create those stories.
