Funny fact is that Joe Pesci was told by Chris Colombus that he can't cuss since this is a family movie, so Joe Pesci inserted all the angry mutterings which became a staple to his character. The scene in the moving van with John Candy and Catherine O'Hara was completely ad libbed, so all the facial expressions from Catherine O'Hara is genuine lol.
The movie that Kevin watches, "Angels With Filthy Souls", is not a real-life movie. It was especially created for the scene featured in "Home Alone". One of the most iconic parts of the movie. Brilliant! 👍😁😁😁
@@StandUpComedyFan28m - Yup, the one which he scares Tim Curry and the rest of the hotel staff at the Plaza Hotel with in that movie. "Stay in your rooms! There's an insane madman with a gun!!" Very funny indeed! 👍🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Christmas just isn't Christmas without "Home Alone". I watch this at least once every year. One of my all-time festive favourites. A masterpiece! 👍😁😁😁❤️👏👏👏👏👏
I love that John Candy and Macaulay were reunited in this after Uncle Buck. Even though they weren't in a scene together, close enough. Also the funeral scene by Candy was completely improvised, which makes it even more hilarious. And Marv's spider death scream is legit. He had arachnophobia. The greatest crime in this movie certainly...even tragedy...is that Kevin didn't even get to eat his Macaroni and Cheese...😞
this was the perfect message to parents everywhere...DON'T have big families LOL. Kevin has two sisters, two brothers, five cousins and a sixth cousin on the other side of the family (who is the oldest one). I remember once doing a careful breakdown of each of the family members...just for fun...it really is amazing how they behave sometimes. the aftershave hurts because kevin shaved and that leaves tiny minescule cuts in the skin...when the aftershave goes on it burns because of the cuts. John Candy did some great stuff...he was in Cool Runnings...if you've never seen that i'd highly recommend it, very funny. the guy who played Marv was actually in quite a lot of things they just weren't as well known...i know he was in a film called Coupe De Ville i think that was BEFORE Home Alone.
Great nostalgia movie! One thing about this movie that gets on my nerves though! People always question why the door in the kitchen has a small doggie door at the bottom when they don't have a dog! Kevin's mom said at the beginning when she was on the phone that they put the dog in a kennel for their vacation!
Hey guys. That thing that Kevin hangs on the front door could be a foam shaping tool. People who make miniature train landscapes, and battlefield terrain for miniature wargames can get a block of foam from Home Depot, cut it into the footprint needed, and use that tool to carve off pieces of the foam until it is in the shape that they want it in. A plateau, a graceful hill, etc. It's an exposed wire that gets super hot, so it can instantly melt plastic foam on contact.
Being early 90s babys, we were extremely lucky to be around to catch an end of an era, modern movies, most of them anyways, just DONT stack up to movies from thos era.
Joe Pesci actually bit Macaulay Culkin's finger for real when they filmed the scene where Harry threatened to bite off Kevin's fingers. It left Culkin with a permanent scar.
The hot thing he puts on the doorknob is an electric starter for a charcoal BBQ, eliminated the need for lighter fluid or other chemical ignitors. Put it in and after a few min the charcoal would start to smolder and you can take it out let it cool down and put it away.
In case it wasn't already said. The nail was a rubber one, so he could stomp on it and it wouldn't hurt. The spider on his face was real. They tried a fake one, but couldn't get it to look right on TV when it was placed on his face
A fun fact, you might enjoy. I noticed you like the scream from Daniel Stern when the spider was placed on him beforehand, he was told that it would be an electronic spider that would be put on him, but they decided to put a real spider on him to get his genuine reaction so that it was his genuine scream in the movie
@@ThatDamnPandaKai not true i saw a behind the scene documentaire about that screem in the movie Daniel Stern who played Marv, said the screem is real,Tarantula spiders can't hear very well so he could go all out 😊
Daniel Stern got his fair share of roles after this. In addition to starring in both City Slickers movies, he appeared in AND directed Rookie Of The Year, and he voiced the title character in the Dilbert animated series. That's just what I remember off the top of my head.
When my niece was 4 or 5 she watched this movie for the 1st time and she kept calling everyone a disease cause when the uncle says “Kevin you’re a disease” and that was her favorite part for some reason 😂
Some fun facts/Trivia : 10:40 - They didn't want to use an actual young girl for that picture and make her feel bad about her appearance, so they dressed a guy in girls clothing. 18:30 - They used a small person as stunt double for some of Kevin's scenes (the Zipline for example) but this one required a close up, so they could no use a double. So, they filmed it in reverse. 37:12 - Daniel Stern didn't liked the tarentula, but he agreed to have it on his face ONCE. He mimicked the screaming to not scare the spider, and actual scream have been dubbed later. 40:04 - Joe Pesci, being a method actor, actually DID bite him, and been a little too intense and bit really hard. Macauley Culkin did bleed and he apparently still have a scar on his finger. Plus, Pesci did avoid Culkin on the set to preserve the dynamic of their characters. He didn't want any kind of "friendship" showing on screen between them.
Okay youngsters. Back in the day criminals would scope out areas and Christmas is prime picking. Pawn shops would buy all that crap. Old aftershaves had a lot of menthol and if you’ve never used before, the cooling sensation actually feels like its burning at first. I know nobody asked but I felt compelled…. Damn I’m getting old. Oh… don’t set your auto lights to the same exact time everyday - just advertising you’re not home.
Growing up my favourite parts were always Kevin outsmarting the bandits, but I watched this last year and had a whole new perspective on it, and my favourite part now is the redemption arc of Old Man Marley.
The scene with Marv stepping on the Christmas ornaments is hard for me to watch. I stepped on a car's broken headlight when I was four and cut a major artery in my foot. They had to sew it up twice because it got infected the first time. The worst part was I had a low tolerance to the anesthesia so they couldn't deaden it and they had to hold me down while they operated. It was like I could feel them cutting me. And I had to go through that ordeal twice- at four years old. By the way, the Christmas ornaments in the scene were actually made of candy. Daniel Stern once said in an interview that having the tarantula on his face wasn't as scary as hitting Joe Pesci with the crowbar.
I've been wanting to see your reaction to the tarantula part for some time. Can't wait to see your reaction to the sequel. By the way, are you two interested in watching a Muppet Christmas Carol?
Great Good Fun. Since you mention wanting to watch more John Candy Movies allow me to suggest my personal fave that for some reason no one ever reacts to. The 1989 comedy detective film "Who's Harry Crumb"
If you're still doing anime, one series I highly recommend is Clannad. It's a bit slow to get going, but won't disappoint in the end. The second season is considered better than the first, but is quite a tear-jerker in the last half.
