You didn't like Mickey in the first one, because Mickey didn't respect Rocky at the start of the movie. However, it wasn't because Mickey didn't believe in Rocky, but rather, because Rocky was a money collector for the mafia. Mickey said he was wasting his talent, and that's why he didn't respect Rocky, even though, he knew Rocky could fight.
The moment Adrian said "win", Apollo was done. There is nothing Rocky couldn't do without the support of Adrian. Who doesn't strive for the kind of complimentary relationship they have? (Rocky: "She's got gaps, I've got gaps, together we fill gaps.") And Apollo Creed is a stellar, well rounded antagonist and adversarial character who doesn't come off as a villain. Instead Apollo becomes human and realistic, with or without the bluster. A testament to Stallone's screenwriting and Carl Weathers' acting.
To be fair Apollo whooped Rocky in this second one and he would’ve won if he wasn’t hell bent on knocking him out but Rocky was never going to give up and that’s what’s so great about the Rocky series. He’s all heart
My favorite bit of dialogue in the entire series: Gazo: How's about investing in condominiums? It's safe. Rocky Balboa: Condominiums? Gazo: Yeah, ... Rocky Balboa: I never use 'em.
I saw this at the theaters back in 1979 when I was 8 years old. When Rocky and Apollo knocked each other down at the end, everyone in the theater jumped up and screamed for Rocky to get up like we were at the fight. My dad tried to lift me up but I missed the whole ending of the movie. I wouldn't change that experience for anything. It was a different time back then.
I was 11 yrs old when I saw in theater. At the end "Yo Adrian ..."the theater erupted in applause. It was loud! Like the end of a stage play. Never seen that before or since in a movie theater. So awesome...
This series is about healthy masculinity. Tough and gets back up after being knocked down, but also tender and vulnerable to those near him. It's a wholesome series and hope you continue in it.

'Rocky II' is my favourite of the whole series and my second fave film of all time. It takes what works about the first one, refines it (gives it more of a budget too), develops the characters and ups the ante. The way it drags Rocky down to the depths of despair and pulls him back is perfectly done. I adore this film.

Carl Weathers was a great athlete and a great actor. His portrayal of Apollo is so multi nuanced. The final moments after the fight show genuine sportsmanship between both men.
The baby in the movie is actually Sylvester Stallone's real son named Seargeoh Stallone. At the age of 3, he was diagnosed with Autism. He is now 45 years old. Sylvester's other son named Sage. Who sadly died in 2012 from heartdisease. Also plays Rockys son in Rocky 5.
@@scottwilson3741 The actor who played Rocky's son in Rocky 4, is named Rocky Krakoff. Funny coincidence he had the same name as Rocky. Maybe that's why he got the part. lol
ROCKY 2 TRIVIA !!! Stallone badly tore his left shoulder/chest muscles during training and had to go in for surgery. This was just a few weeks before filming was supposed to start. He rerwote the script so there was a reason for him to fight right-handed. When the "switching hands" scene came up he still hadn't recovered enough to use his left arm convincingly so in-story decided "no tricks!" so he could keep using his right.
Born and raised Philly chic... So happy you stuck with this franchise. They get better and better. Cant wait for Rocky 3. TBH, you're gonna love Creed as well. Its hard not to fall in love with the cast. ❤
15:15 "It must have an advantage with bein' a southpaw." Well, Dawn, Rocky explained this in the _first_ movie. When he was taking Adrian on their first date at the skating rink, he explained that no one wants to get in the ring with left-handed fighters, because they throw off all your calculations.
As lazyperfectionist1 probably knows but will add information. Southpaw means lefthanded. Lefties are around 10% of the world, so for good boxers it is very hard to find good sparring partners that are lefties. So right-handed fighters are simply not used to fighting against lefties. While the opposite is true for lefties, since they have been fighting against right-handed people all their life. And it is easier to learn how to fight against someone that fights like you. Right to right and left to left. There are many sports being a leftie really is an advantage since the opponent are not used to it. The most famous is martial arts(boxing, kick-boxing, mma) but also Tennis(Rafael Nadal as an example is a leftie) but especially in fencing. Someone might correct me but isn't it the last 50 years in olympic fencing it has only been 1 right handed champion? Rest has been lefties?
I love Duke telling Apollo to let it go, let it go because Sly used it again in First Blood when Rambo tells it to the sheriff. You’ll enjoy the next one also.
Some fans of the movie using Mapquest or Google Maps figured out the most logical path Rocky would've had to run using the landmarks he ran past at the end of the training montage. To run past all the places that he did Rocky would've had to have run 30 miles, which is longer than a full marathon which is 26.2 miles. So more than likely they just filmed Stallone running past different locations for the film. However, fans of the movie did organize a Rocky themed "fun run" where they ran that 30-mile path dressed like Rocky.
I read a while back that in an early draft of the script for the first Rocky film, Gazo was supposed to be Rocky's half brother. A "brother from a different mother." They grew up street wise with Gazo learning to be a loan shark while Rocky was the (implied) muscle despite him not wanting to actually hurt anyone. They had to trim the first Rocky film down quite a bit since they were going with such a small budget. They trimmed down a bit of backstory for Paulie being so miserable as well. He was supposed to be a war veteran drinking his pain away. In his house, you can see a picture of him young in a Marine Corps uniform which was also a real pick of Burt Young since he was in the Marine Corps before taking up acting. He also took up boxing while active duty and had a solid record of wins.
Everyone at the time loved Burgess Meredith, he had been an icon actor for decades but was most famous for playing the penguin in 1960s Batman. This character was so different from anything he had done before that we were amazed!
6:33 It's not so much that Apollo's getting hate mail. I think that phenomenon is about as old as mail. The crazy part is that Apollo's letting it _get_ to him instead of having fun with his family.
Rocky was paid $150,000 for the first fight. USA Federal and State taxes at that time could easily have been 60% combined for that high of a pay day leaving $60,000 left. A boxing manager, Mickey, would make about 15% of the gross so subtract $22,500 and leave $37,500 left. And Mickey would also have to pay taxes on his $22,500. Rocky bought a modest home and a car. He had nothing left after that. In 1979 for real, Sugar Ray Leonard fought for the world championship and received $1m and his competitor, the then current title holder, received $1.2m. So I imagine the 2nd hypothetical Rocky match would have seen payouts closer to that.
This was always my fav Rocky. Just tugs at you so hard with the struggles and his love for Adrian shows a whole other level in this one. Best fight also and the music score is epic
The one thing I really love about Rocky finally winning in the end is Apollo, without any humility being the one to give Rocky the belt and raise his hand knowing that the better man won. In all the emotion of the moment people gloss over that fact.
21:20 Fighters lead with their opposite hand and block with their dominant hand. So Rocky, who is left-handed would have his RIGHT hand closest to the target, that way when he punches with his left, there's more power behind it because the fist comes from further back.
What gets lost, sometimes, is the reason the Rocky franchise is iconic? Because Stallone is such a brilliant writer.❤ when she wakes up from the coma? And says the magic word? I am beside myself!
I about lost my sh*t today! I was at work and had to download this so I could watch as soon as I got home. My late wife and I couldn't watch the end of this movie without crying
Great reaction Dawn. This is my favorite movie of the series. But 3, 4, and especially Rocky Balboa are really good too. If you continue with the series, you'll laugh, you'll cry, it'll become a part of you.
So the reason why Rocky 2 starts off with a flash back to the end of Rocky is because at the time they couldnt be sure the audience had seen the first movie…. Or even remembered it…. Rocky came out in 76, the sequel in 79….. HBO didnt get started until 72 so it wasnt very big and 3 years wouldnt have been enough time for it to have made it to TV yet….. oh yeah and movie rentals would not have been much of a thing…… thus Rocky MIGHT have had a second run in the theaters just before 2 came out….. but then again maybe not….. thus a “catch me up “ segment
Actually, their friendship truly began with that scene when Rocky asked Apollo at the hospital whether he gave him his best. Rocky showed the champ respect, and Apollo countered by showing Rocky respect when he said “yes,” when it was clear, at least early on, that Apollo didn’t take the fight seriously. He could’ve gone all macho and be like, “Nah, man, you haven’t seen all I got!” But the media weren’t there, and he could be more humble and treat Rocky like an equal, instead of rubbing it in to the underdog.
Dawn, You’re so much fun to watch. Love it! You’ve got to watch, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. So good. And RED and RED 2. Both are really good as well.-Thomas
23:07 No but he needed to make that journey from the bottom in the first one. He needed to prove he could go the distance, that he has what it takes, so that they CAN get behind him and be chanting his name on his way to the ring.
The best line in the movie is when Rocky asks Adrienne,"What are you doing for next 40 or 50 years, if you wouldn't mind marrying to much?" And Adrienne said"what did you say? Being surprised that he asked her to marry him. When you see the rest of the movies who Rocky lives, not just Adrienne but everyone.
As an Italian from Philly I can confirm yes, everyone went crazy in the theater. There's a funny joke about Rocky films that Eddie Murphey did that's 100% accurate. Minus the racism. Lol
25:15 Yes re-matches happen in any sport where there is a dispute or the public arent happy, Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali had 3 rematches and each of their fights is amazing to watch, they where both made of concrete and couldnt knock eachother out
19:24 OK, at first I thought he was reading a William Burroughs novel which had me very worried for their marriage! No, this is 'Deputy Sheriff of Comanche County' by Edgar Rice Burroughs who wrote adventure novels.
Three and four four are great. Five is misunderstood in the final movie. Rocky Balboa is one of my favorites. Keep rolling with this wonderful franchise
You got that right! Knowing there is more spoils things as has happened to many, many others! Its sad if you really think about it. Probably one of thee most important aspects of reacting because as with seeing meme's, etc. it detracts for the basis of 'reactions.' Thank you Dawn Marie! :)
Best....reaction....ever! Dawn, I can't begin to tell you how much I love your reaction to this iconic movie. I couldn't wait for you to continue this journey. I know you're just going to love the others. I compare the franchise to an item on a bucket list. It definitely needs to be checked off. I hope you decide to continue to watch the Rocky franchise. Arguably one of the very best franchises out there. As always, we love you and look forward to your reactions. Take care and God bless.
Awesome reaction!!! One of the main reasons WHY Rocky went to fighting right-handed was because Sylvestor Stallone suffered a bad injury to his left side - forget what happened. The movie was in jeopardy of being dumped/canceled but they came up with the "learning to fight right-handed" angle and re-worked the script. The fight scene was filmed first to get it out of the way and give Stallone's body a chance to heal. Also, do not feel too bad about liking this movie better than #1 - pert near everyone does, even at the time the movie was released. #3 is awesome but the next best "Rocky" movie would be #6 called "Rocky Balboa". #4 is good but is a product of its times. #5 gets all kinds of hate but is really not as bad as everyone says it is. "Creed" is awesome. Really have not seen "Creed #2 or #3" other than these types of reactions, so cannot really say too much about them.
Rocky is the bestest movie ever win, lose or draw because if it doesn’t matter to Rocky that he lost the fight, it shouldn’t matter to us. He proved to himself that he could go the distance and he had won the heart of his woman. One of the best lines of the film were that there would be no rematch. And here we are with a rematch.
Mick just sitting with Rocky when he wouldnt/couldnt train was a showing of Micks character and his respect for Rocky. but as soon as Adrian said "win" Mick was up and ready to go
Love your reaction Dawn . Did you know that Burt Young the chap who played the character Paulie use to be a professional Boxer . Apparently, he had 17 professional fights and was trained by Cus D'amato who was the person who trained Mike Tyson. Just thought that I'd mention it . Take care and best wishes .
I miss the days when sequels started with the end of the previous film. This was done since not everyone might have caught the previous film in theaters, and there wasn't any such thing as home video, so you wouldn't have otherwise seen it. I do have to laugh that, in the first movie Gazzo's driver was cutting on Rocky, telling him to take Adrian to the zoo for their date. Then, Rocky ends up proposing to her in a zoo in the sequel.
You didn't like Mickey in the first one, because Mickey didn't respect Rocky at the start of the movie.
There is no Rocky II without the first. It was a great set up. Great!
I am so excited for you as you have so much to look forward to! Rocky III and IV will blow your mind!
You got that right! Knowing there is more spoils things as has happened to many, many others! Its sad if you really think about it. Probably one of thee most important aspects of reacting because as with seeing meme's, etc. it detracts for the basis of 'reactions.' Thank you Dawn Marie! :)
I probably commented this on your reaction to Rocky I but Rocky III is my favorite. I can't wait for you to react to it.
Couldn't have the feelings for II without the experience of I.
Thanks Dawn!
Rocky's so sweet. So precious. And Dawn is really loving him for it. That's awesome to watch.
Appreciate the reaction, ma'am.
And you're right . . . it does happen!
Dont worry. Apollo gets his come upins. Later in life, on a golf outing, he gets his hand bitten off by an alligator
too soon
What a great, funnn reaction! I just love your energy and adorable giggles!🥰
"Holy Shit" at the end.....Exactly and I've seen this 100 times
"this is hard, this is hard" , "that's what she said." 😂
Best laugh ever. And with a beautiful soul
You gotta watch the 3rd one now! You'd like that as well!
#3 is my favorite of the franchise. I'm anxious to see Dawn's comments on it when she sees it.
Let’s do Rocky 3 SOON!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Burgess Meredith's playing Mickey in this movie was a fantastic role.I think he was better in grumpy.Old men
Again, Adrian shows why she is the true MVP of this franchise. You'll really enjoy next one, best Rocky of the franchise
I really, really like a lot of reactors on RUclips. Dawn is my favorite, and it’s really not even close.
I love that Dawn is a Rocky fan!
Great reaction, thank you! And, your laugh is a knockout...
My favorite sports movie, and one of my favorites to see on my favorite reaction channels. Thanks! Can't WAIT for 3 and 4.
Dawn has the greatest giggle ❤
Mick just sitting with Rocky when he wouldnt/couldnt train was a showing of Micks character and his respect for Rocky. but as soon as Adrian said "win" Mick was up and ready to go
Absolutely knew you'd love this one Darlin! I think the hype of the first film did affect your opinion of it. But knew this second one would grab ya!
Loved watching Dawn enjoy this!
