Always needs to be on trickle charge if you dont daily it pal. Back in the day the battery was 3k ish so you are lucky the price has dropped… Once it drops below a certain voltage it’s RIP . You are part of my club now (not gang) 😂
I'd imagine it's a lifpo4 battery, if you open it you could try and charge each cell individually to bring it back to life or change whichever cell is dead.
When I saw the end of the video, I kind of agreed and disagreed with Mat's remarks on batteries. The problem is that there just isn't a lot of knowledge on how to take care of them, so it's hard to expect people to just magically know everything when anyone older than 30 is likely used to the idea of tossing AA's into a drawer and just pulling them out whenever. Unfortunately, since the Urus sat for a year, that likely killed the battery. It can happen to simple things too. I have an older Apple Pencil that I kept forgetting to charge, and it's just dead now; won't take a charge. (Especially so since you can't change the batteries.) When I deal with LiPo batteries for RC vehicles, I keep them at a storage charge of only about 40%, because it's not only bad to let a LiPo battery drain all the way, it's also bad to leave them charged all the way. My DJI drone batteries will automatically start discharging after about 4 days if you leave them charged.
If you haven’t done this already, it’s worth a try. These lithium batteries tent to get unrecognized by a battery charger when that computer inside of it turned it off. Your battery charger needs some kind of reading above 3-6v to start charging. For my lithium battery the trick was to put the charger on it, attach another charged 12v battery (can be any type of car/motorcycle battery) to the combination for 10 seconds or so with some wires. Your charger will now messure a current above the bottom threshold and will start charging your lithium battery. At least that’s what worked for mine.
G'day Mate I'm a 74-year-old fart who loves utube for the past 9 years. I Love car shows the most, but once I discovered your show, it's been my favourite watching a least two a day and love the closeness you and your dad have something I never had so I hope you both appreciate what you have. Cheers mate and please keep doing what you both are doing because people like me appreciate watching it.❤
I often look at videos of guys with their dads and wonder what that experience is like. As a young guy I'd always ask other guys how they learned to work on cars and a lot of times, they'd say they learned by watching their dad and helping them work on cars. I never had that either. It sucks having to figure things out alone, but at least our fathers taught us what NOT to do, if nothing else. Either way, we learned from them.
I'm so happy you kept the grey and chrome bits. Plus the wheels. I think it looks superb! Side skirt could be covered in carbon fibre effect vinyl wrap
To be able to charge your battery that has gone to low in voltage, you need to use another battery to trick your charger into thinking it"s still alive. Basically you put a good battery between your dead one and the charger. Done it on my land rover and worked like a charm. I have a Cayenne with that same battery. A few companies sell a retrofit kit that allows you to run an AGM battery. I thought my battery was having issues as well and was shocked about the price of a replacement. They also have a few companies that can refurbish the battery as well.
Hey Matt, little tip to ROUGHLY set the camber. Use a straight edge vertically on the face of the wheel and use a level app on your phone. You can usually get it within 0.5-1 deg accuracy. Not perfect but will get you on the road.
Wheel Alignment - Old school method. Tape measure from inner wheel to other side, measure front and rear of each wheel. Find measurement that balances both sides, congrats your wheels are now aligned 👍🏻 Did this method, took it to a laser alignment and was within a degree.
The BMS has a pre set minimum charge that it recognises. Once the battery falls below that level the BMS no longer recognises the battery and won't accept a charge. Get a vehicle with the same battery. Hook it up for half a minute. The BMS will allow the charge. Once the charge is above the minimum it'll happily charge. Do NOT ditch your battery. It can be saved.
This particular BMS is VIN locked and needs to be reprogrammed to reset the BMS after the cells have been "manually" recharged. It's not simple but there's a place in the uk that'll do it for £400 same day. Which is quite a bargain all things considered. It's that or send the BMS to America and they'll resest for you for £170. If you're confident recharging the cells yourself.
it seems to be the same issue that dji drones have, when you drain your batterry it has a system in it so it saves from draining but then afterwards you can not charge it up lmao and to do the trick you gotta do what you are saying ....

Love to see the progress being made on these cars! A trick for at-home "italian-string" wheel alignment is to use two layers of cardboard and some plastic in between - takes away the friction of the rubber to the floor; also best to 'drive' the car a few meters after lifiting it up to let the wheels settle well. Not that it'd have mattered much with busted arms.
at 44:50 Matt, when a battery is dead in these cars, especially the frameless ones, you can not close the door like that. The windows usually go down a bit and close when there is battery power. In this case, there isn't any juice in the battery, so the window wont move. Just be more gentler next time when you close the door not to damage the window. (given the battery is dead) Have a nice day.
100% correct, when my porsche battery died, nearly cracked a window due to slamming the door and the window wouldnt go down, due to lack of power from battery .
@@procrastinatingrn3936pretty common feature especially on a car of this spec, he’s completely correct however I feel there’s probably a feature where in the case of the battery failing the window will drop that couple of mm as a precaution.
Just read about li/ion batts. I have an EV changed out the 12V. Didn't go with that technology due to the need to keep the V in a certain range. Touchy things. 1K, huh? Ouch.
Well have you tought that your string aligment only works if the front and back wheels have the same offset. And also front and the back axles need to be the same width. So to get this to work you would need two set of strings and set those paraller to each other and the center to the wheels front and back. After this you can doo quite precise aligment.
Correct. If the rear axle is wider than the front, you’ll always be adjusting the front wheels wrong if you’re theming to make them straight off that crooked line.
For alignment in race cars, we have 2 simple stainless 12" plates with grease between. Park on them to do alignments and they allow wheel movement. Also lower your car onto them after adjusting suspension on the lift and they allow the suspension to move out to ride position.
Yeah done that a couple of times with lithium batteries. Just charge the individual cells bypassing the BMS. Depending on how smart or dumb the BMS is this could work.
28:40 those two geniuses completely disregarding the fact, that the rod end is mounted further to the inside than where they are measuring, so every change on the rod end will result in a far bigger change at the rim.... EDIT: I didn't mean that hostile in any way :D I just love the calculation, that is just complete nonsense. Gave me a giggle
I think the differences are less talked about. Including the drag co efficient of the air on the hull. Look at the crew and hull. The foils and sails, but normally the kiwis are wining with a smaller jib.
When you say the battery won't charge, do you mean the external charger you are using won't charge the battery. This is usually because the battery is so very low the charger errors. I have had some success by connecting another battery of like voltage to the dead battery to bring up its' voltage. Once the dead battery takes a little charge, then quickly connect your charger and cross fingers the charger does it's job. Sometimes I even connect the second battery and the charger to trick the charger into reading a higher vootage. The second battery can be removed once the charger starts to charge. I have done this process with various lithium batteries from 3v to 72v with much success. I hope you read this and can revive your $1500 battery! Good luck!
Does you charger reset the BMS ? I have a battery charger (Optimate TM390 for LiFePO4/LFP) with a BMS reset button, I as able to successfully charge a lithium battery from 0.2V to 13.4V.
I hope he this this or my comment earlier, I have been succesful by setting a charger to lead instead of lifepo to get just enough voltage to bypas safeety low voltage then you can charge it normally, I guess your trick using another batter does the same.
Actually this green color (may b a bit darker) was also used by the Japanese to paint their Zero fighters during WW2, so it can match. When I customized my GTR on NFS, i picked this green color and added the zero emblem(red circle, with a white outline), with some yellow accent, like the plane and it looked pretty sick! Your videos are always a treat to watch! Thanks, Sonia :)
There will be a cut off voltage when the battery drops to a certain level, the BMS will switch off and isolate the cells from the outside world. There should be a way to get into the battery and charge the cells directly (bypassing the BMS), once the cells reach a set voltage the BMS will kick back in and the battery should start responding again.
Unless some or all cells discharged even more after the BMS turned the battery off, I think this should be done by the car and/or BMS automatically after you jump started the car.

Hi Matt, You can recover these batteries when the protection contactor opens. You need a lithium compatible battery charger, open the battery up and connect directly to the main battery busbars inside, charge for a while and you’ll hear a positive clink as the contactor shuts. Charge for another hour or so and reassemble and refit to. Vehicle.

Hey Matt. With the carbon 2 option. Sand it down until you don’t feel scratches( if the scratch is very deep don’t send all the way just as much as you can) carbon fiber is layers. There will still be carbon underneath so then you just clear coat it. Option 2 sand it down fully and just wrap it carbon. It’s still real carbon might be hard to wrap it but I bet you can do it.
on the battery u can probably reset the bms by putting the negative on the positive (after u open it up a bit) u can fnd how to on any bms manual.. the battery isnt really broken the bms just needs a reset.

@@procrastinatingrn3936pretty common feature especially on a car of this spec, he’s completely correct however I feel there’s probably a feature where in the case of the battery failing the window will drop that couple of mm as a precaution.
Even the BMW Mini's go down a bit

Just read about li/ion batts. I have an EV changed out the 12V. Didn't go with that technology due to the need to keep the V in a certain range. Touchy things. 1K, huh? Ouch.
Tony is the real hero of these videos😭🙌🏽 The GTR looking unreal, pretty unique colour/car combo🔥
Nice to see Big Tev and Keran wrapping your car Mat💪
For alignment in race cars, we have 2 simple stainless 12" plates with grease between. Park on them to do alignments and they allow wheel movement. Also lower your car onto them after adjusting suspension on the lift and they allow the suspension to move out to ride position.
You should do a 80s classic your dad would be in his element
You can open up the Battery and charge it off the Terminals inside the Battery bypassing the board. Once charged reassemble and fit back on the car.
I could really see the computer (BMS maybe) needing to be reset in order for it to allow the battery to output voltage again
Yeah done that a couple of times with lithium batteries. Just charge the individual cells bypassing the BMS. Depending on how smart or dumb the BMS is this could work.
If you make a car British racing green. You have to make the wheels gold. But that Urus is a thing of beauty 😮
Agree 100% got to go gold 👍
Nah paint each one a different color Harlequin style - you're never going to make everyone happy, but you can definitely make everyone mad.
I prefer silver wheels with british racing green - the paint job is the main event!
Bro stole tj hunt style
That looks wicked in the British racing green - I thought the bonnet vents in silver could of worked too.
I like the Nissan color just as much as Tony does.
Same looks disgusting gtr was my favourite car till I seen it in green 😂
Don’t like the colour liked it grey would have went with black for the wheels with the grey body would have looked a lot better
I vomited in my mouth when the color was revealed.
Yea the green is not a nice shade
Matt’s dad is pure comedy and vibes
At 42:17 lithium batteries will have a bms inside them helps control everything battery voltage e.g.
I love the Comedic dynamic Between Camera man Matt and Tony, im always laughing along side this Duio ^^
Definitely needs some dark bronze wheels to make that green pop
I was thinking exactly that! I personally don't like the colour but bronze wheels would help
Disagree completely, green and bronze is played out
I wish I could like this comment twice... You read my mind, or I yours.. Great thinking
Imagine it with yellow headlight units 😍🤤
@brianwalter8483 great minds mate 👌🏿👍🏿

Brilliant result of the Nissan GTR wrap. Black and Green the best colours bever seen. Same our Regimental Colours , The Rifle Brigade.
1:30 I'm sorry, what's your dad doing?😅😂
Striping 😂
Usually its the MOM’s stripping 😂
Used to see those guys on Yiannimize! Wicked colour though!
I knew i wasn't bugging. Ive definitely sen him on Yanni's channel. I think it was a wrapping comp

Tony looking like Eddie Jones with that England Jacket.😂😂😂
0:28 looked a bit green to me🤔
I can't believe that you got kean from yiannimize to wrap your car
@@MAXS200 If Matt can get to directly to the battery past the BMS like you said amd others said, I suspect he will be successful.
Some yellow stripes would make that green pop. Green/ Yellow is very much racing
thats what i thought of when they said "sun strip"! a big yellow go faster stripe!!
Green GTR looks great. Would look even better with bronze wheels and blacking out the chrome bits.
Should have blacked the spoiler too
So basically his old m4's colors
Actually this green color (may b a bit darker) was also used by the Japanese to paint their Zero fighters during WW2, so it can match. When I customized my GTR on NFS, i picked this green color and added the zero emblem(red circle, with a white outline), with some yellow accent, like the plane and it looked pretty sick! Your videos are always a treat to watch!
Thanks,
Sonia :)
New video of yours makes me smile every single time

Dad is having the most fun of anybody there. I love it!

Thanks for the content young people really need to not let this petrol car stuff die out and Mr Mathew you are A great inspiration as well as your father keep on guys ❤❤❤ 😊
Love the colour but I agree with Mat! Even before he mentioned it I thought bronze wheels suit the green better than silver! Looks sick though!
Hi Matt,
You can recover these batteries when the protection contactor opens. You need a lithium compatible battery charger, open the battery up and connect directly to the main battery busbars inside, charge for a while and you’ll hear a positive clink as the contactor shuts. Charge for another hour or so and reassemble and refit to. Vehicle.
Am a massive fan. I watch all your videos. As a petrol head I enjoy your channel more than any of the others, so keep up the good work. Enjoy your honesty and sense of humour
BRG coloured GTR, now that’s awesome!!! Absolutely crying out for gold rims, in my opinion. Car looks EPIC!!!!👍💪

Mat, I could be wrong but carbon fiber vinyl comes in a gazillion weaves and finishes. It's essentially ...PPF. Why not simply repair your "crash damaged" side skirt and then cover it with the same weave and gloss in carbon fiber vinyl? I'll bet 3M makes exactly what you need!!
Lovely to see Kian again. When you said his name, I hoped it would be 'Yiannimize Kian'. He is such a talented wrapper, i hope his business is going from strength.

tbf the chrome would look pretty sick. if you made that front bit chrome, the front pillars chrome and the window trim chrome that would look fire. atm it looks like its just been forgotten to be done
