RIP Chris Lawrence (Trombonist) what a decent bloke you were! Thanks for the laughs, the lifts home, looking out for my big sister and me...but most of all....thanks for the music Chris 🎶😪♥️
Brilliant cover from one of the top ten bands from the UK. They were a class act the Stranglers no question. They had the aggression, the songs and the look. A real band….
Brilliant!!...remember It well!! me and my wife met In 1983. Had our Daughter In 1988 and played this track to celebrate her birth and our love for one another. Still together after 41 years!!
They don't make a music like this now days., Gosh., absolutely fantastic rhythm., never stop listening. Guys, you are by all means the best in the world!!
I felt that way about The Stranglers version of "Walk On By", too. Usually cover versions are missing a certain je ne sais quoi, but this and WoB most certainly aren't lacking.
I love the Kinks, this was on the first album I bought. I love The Stranglers, who were starting out, when I first started going to gigs. I wish The Stranglers had put their own stamp on this though. They play it well, but it's such a close copy, I think I'll stay with The Kinks, or listen to something a with a bit more invention, like the Scorpions version. I think I need a dose of Rattus Norvegicus now.
Cool to find that video at last, with women in very short and skinny bodydresses of the 80's, they even have that special attitude, like playing the angry diva a bit then laughing like little girls, just few women could keep with that spirit in the 90's, perhaps top model Eva Herzigova but after that ..no fun
like most of you, I have been an admirer ( God , if they only knew) for about 35 years: with and without Hugh Cornwell (You know who? sounds like a H Potter book) saw them pay live a few years ago and enjoyed Giants like mad......
This was Hugh "The Master" Cornwell's last hurrah. While this was a decent cover version, the band were declining. I miss the 1977-78 version of Hugh Cornwell but not the post-1987 version.
I like The Stranglers, and that's partly because they like a joke at its time. This song is clearly a joke and the solo especially is: they've played much better solos and the reason this sounds so cripple is that the solo of The Kinks also sounds quite cripple, its fun but cripple. The Stranglers are a new-wave groep, so they hate wearing suits, they do in this video and combinated with the trumpets and the solo you can clearly see this is a joke, and a rather good one to.
For my money a better version than the Kinks and boy they did a good job. Also, what I like about this great version of the Kinks classic is the way the playback is so 'effin' loud that you can see it in Hugh's face as he twitches and blinks slightly (10 secs in).
No he didn't! It was long assumed that Page played the solo, but it is now clear that Page only might have played in the b-side of All day and all of the night (check out the English wikipedia page of the song)
They are a great rockband and they did a very respectful and decent job on this one, but the Kinks did it better, and that's not because i wouldn't mind covers, that would be a utterly stupid opinion, but really, the Kinks did this in a more original en powerful way.
Ok, yeah might be right. I always thought Page did a lot of sessions for the Kinks et al in that era. Still Wikipedia isnt gospel. What I DO find strange, I KNOW Squeeze (UK) did a great cover of this song also in about 82, but I can find NO YT or any internet reference to the song or the video they made for it. Saw it on MTV back in the 90s and loved it!
RIP Dave Greenfield, we all miss you
I love when people remake other songs but they actually sound really good and not like a ripoff, a talent the stranglers have is being a great band
@@raspberrysherbet5285 agreed :)
One of the few bands that deserves the right to play this song.
Brilliant
@@CarrimanCraft yes for sure
Great version. 👌

Rip Jet Black :( great sound on this cover!
The stranglers did a great job with cover versions of Walk on by, All day and all of the night, and 96 tears. 😊

R O C K S ! ! !
You're kidding, right?
Hugh Cornwell is the Man!!!! Miss him!
Love the original but always adored this version.
Well done mates…well done indeed. I’m sure the Davies brothers from The Kinks would approve.
Brilliant cover from one of the top ten bands from the UK. They were a class act the Stranglers no question. They had the aggression, the songs and the look. A real band….
Rare musical talent, a gifted voice... A real band as you say.
I'd put them in the top 1
Brilliant!!...remember It well!! me and my wife met In 1983. Had our Daughter In 1988 and played this track to celebrate her birth and our love for one another. Still together after 41 years!!
Another kinks gem.
This is the best cover of the kinks classic!
Love the Kinks, this is one cover i really like, well done!
Such a talented act performing a very decent cover of this great classic here! Very impressive!
One of the songs on which the horn section really works well and complements it.
I've always loved this version.
This cover of the Kinks classic has all the power of the original , love this by them and their own song
Skin Deep .
This is for sure the best cover of this song!
They don't make a music like this now days., Gosh., absolutely fantastic rhythm., never stop listening. Guys, you are by all means the best in the world!!
I miss 80s so much...
Great Band paying homage to another great Band
Being a mod, the kinks original.🕺best ever cover version the stranglers nailed it.
RIP Jet Black.
A fantastic Cover!
Always liked this version.
I felt that way about The Stranglers version of "Walk On By", too.

His voice ❤️
Great cover! And i'm a huge Stranglers fan! But, man, they were great in loads of other songs!
i love how JJ dances!

Man, they NAILED that!
JJ's dancing and playing a Steinberger cracks me up. :)
this group could have covered all great songs and made them even greater

The cover song that made me love them. Still discovering their earlier work. Heard the Kinks' version after, so still like this the best...
great cover!!!!
Surprisingly good.
AAAHH I didn't know they did this. IT'S PERFECT
Hugh Cornwell is handsome and genius
Saw them live couple weeks back :)
Yes!
Man, Jet Black beat the hell out of those drums didn't he?
Love this cover! And the chick in yellow is the bomb!
Any idea who she is?
I love british rock

sounds so much clearer and better than the original great cover song
Lol. They've got 40 years of technology improvement on their side.
Still not actually better than The Kinks, fwiw.
@@blackSUAAAVE do you know that music is subjective?
Love it!!!! Love JJ, The cover's BETTER than the original .... gotta love The Stranglers
❤️
❤️❤️❤️
Better than original easily. THIS is how to do a cover version !

Sehr gelungene Coverversion ! Muss sich hinter dem Original nicht verstecken. 🎉❤

Sometimes the Copy is better than the Original
What copy?"Hello I love you"?
What original?"You really got me"?
the kinks released this song originally
Vanhalen
Erwin Klawuttke but not in this case
This isn't one of those times, but it is a very good cover version.
the specials performed this song too. never can find that version think it was only live
classic
@ronaldvanderkleij busy being absolute legends and the first punk band with tunes like this
didn't even know they did this!
Hugh was gorgeous.

Back again. Bought this on release, 87 ?
Hilarious, the guy even maneges to play the solo even worse than Dave Davies himself, great fun!
se la escuché al vecino poniéndola a todo volumen y lptm me flipó
it's better than original
much better, bravo stranglers!
Hugh Cornwell the Stannis Baratheon of Rock. Joe Strummer was his Davos Seaworth!!!!
he even looks like Stannis
😀😀👍
Is that gerard depardieu on drums?

O' ley and all over night
Oley and all of the night
Brilliant cover, in my eyes better than the original... but who are the Stranglers now... with a singing puppy instead of the master, Hugh Cornwell ?
still touring - bands change / evolve - nothing stands still
