    The greatest bands have a much bigger influence years after their last Album & Concert. The Clash is a PRIME example of this.

      That is absolutely true. The Clash is alive... even if they haven't been together since 1986. His music is more present today than ever. Everyone who experienced this time will probably carry this with them until the last day. The Clash will forever remain alive in our hearts.

      Josh. Drums on the whole records are amazing! It's incredible what a drummer can do on a cover. This is one of the highlights. But im not sure if it was Chimes or Headon who played on this one. Anyway nice remark

      Chimes was only present for the bands debut album, and anything else would be done by Topper Headon.

      hayden51773 Actually Buddy Holly's Crickets did the original after he died. Bobby Fuller was a remake.

    Saw them do this in Toronto, outdoors. Complete chaos. Fans all over the stage, roadies and security tossing fans left right and centre , fights all over the stage. The band just kept out cranking the tune indifferent to the surrounding madness. Absolutely brilliant stuff. There has never been and will never be another Clash!

      Seen them in 78 here in zGlasgow pal.I went home with a broken jaw and my pal R.I.P.went home with a broken arm.We were all 15 years old.The bad days came later though...

      @@himesilva Yep.Having lived in NYC London Bangkok Detroit Toronto and Ottawa I would say NOBODY loves their music the way people of Toronto do. I was lucky that when I lived there Toronto was the #2:North American spot for European bands to play, right behind NYC.

    Tell you one thing, the Clash really perfected how to record the punk sound. The more you listen to each of the elements in this tune the more you realize how each one sits perfectly in the mix and combines together to make a super tasty track.

    I came back to this song after it was played at my mom's best friend's funeral a little over a month ago on the 26th of July, only to learn later that day when I came home in the evening that the song was released on the very same day in 1979. That was an amazing coincidence and it really cheered me up.
    I'll always think of her when I hear this song now.

      I came here after digging up Sonny Curtis, and as great as the Mary Tyler Moore theme is and his talent, this was one song where The Clash improved upon it greatly and you are right this cover is superb.

      Bobbys version isn't original. Original song was written by The Crickets (Buddy Hollys) in 1960.

    This song was written by Sonny Curtis of the Crickets, Buddy Holly's backing band and recorded by them in 1960, the year after he died in a plane crash. I guess had he lived it would have been another big hit for him back then. The Cricket's drummer, Jerry Allison, did the original 6 gun on the song.

      Sonny Curtis in 1958, most popular version was Bobby Fuller Four in 1965. Clash ain't punk. Way cool though and probably the best cover in wide release.

    I love that little clip of them walking across that ledge in a line...I've seen it in other Clash videos, many times. I just realized that the guy out front in the white pants doing the funky walk must be Topper! I always assumed it was Mick because it looks like something he'd do. It makes me love Topper even more, he looks way cooler than the rest of them there! 😆

    This song sort of brings a kick to your stomach if you happened to come across a montage of footage from behind the scenes of a particular movie whose studio thought would be best for the world not to see so decided to erase it completely from existence and knowing the whole story behind the decision and how it played out. And it just happened to be a film about a very famous persistent cartoon canine who spent his entire life trying to catch a bird.

    I remember when my son Kayden was roughly 5 or 6 and I was playing this on Guitar Hero and after him hearing me play it he would beg me to play the game and song over and over again!!! It doesn't matter the generation we can all appreciate great music especially a band that helped the punk rock genre in so many ways!! Epic music and lyrics!!🤘

      GadgetInspektor: I was young in the ´80s and never heard of this song, may be in my country (I am uruguayan) it was forbidden because we had a military government in those days. But I can hear it now and understand perfectly the complaint, and why the law always won in those days. Even though I loved the clash music and didn´t understand very much the lyrics, they really sing complicated in English for the ones who english isn´t native language, like both of us. Regards.
