Lyrics
Say you stand by your man
Tell me something I don't understand
You said you love me and that's a fact
Then you left me, said you felt trapped
Well some things you can explain away
But my heartache's in me till this day
Did you stand by me
No, not at all
Did you stand by me
No way
All the times
When we were close
I'll remember these things the most
I see all my dreams come tumbling down
I won't be happy without you around
So all alone I keep the wolves at bay
There is only one thing that I can say
Did you stand by me
No, not at all
Did you stand by me
No way
You must explain why this must be
Did you lie when you spoke to me
Did you stand by me
No, not at all
Now I got a job
But it don't pay
I need new clothes
I need somewhere to stay
But without all these things I can do
But without your love I won't make it through
But you don't understand my point of view
I suppose there's nothing I can do
Did you stand by me
No, not at all
Did you stand by me
No way
You must explain why this must be
Did you lie when you spoke to me?
Did you stand by me
Did you stand by me
No, not at all
Did you stand by me
No way
Did you stand by me
No, not at all
Did you stand by me
No way Видеоклипы
Who is listening to this masterpiece in 2024
Yep

Driving the dream away

Me!
London Calling turned 40 years old today, and it hasn’t aged a second.
Jesus saves 🙂
I think it’s 41 years old. :)
cheers 🍺
For real it really stands out amongst other punk albums of the time and every song is still so unique and catchy.
Great music never does!
This is my favorite Clash song.
It’s one of mine to love love love the clash
Yup
Me too
SAMEEE it gives me so much happiness just listening to it
Jesus saves 🙂
One of the greatest rock albums ever recorded, period........
Press REPEAT....F....Yah
Why is this song so fucking awesome?
Rodney Mullen on Almost's round 3
Had to look up the soundtrack to that to find this song, glad I remembered it was in his part after all these years!
After watching it I remembered how I wanted to learn to slide primo like him, I just couldn't figure out how he did it.
***** William Patrick had the best part though, best skater ever!!!!
Best comment I've ever seen in YT, Jeff Panetta. Godspeed man, to you and yours.
In my opinion from start to finish this album is one of the best of all time
"Lost in the Supermarket" definitely a classic, along with many others on the album. And of course, the title track is a masterpiece.
Agreed! Classics like this are a thing of the past and are mostly foreign to todays sissy and robotic musical generation.
F. Crazybone stop listening to mainstream and dig deeper theres a metric shit ton of amazing music out there
M Zach I prefer the first album and Give em enough rope
Aparently the greatest album of the 80s ( seen it on TV forget what pogram ) ... came out in 79 :D
I don't identify with a lot of music, but The Clash were something special. They weren't afraid to write about suffering or injustice or oppression. RIP Joe Strummer and love live The Clash.
Whole purpose of them
Yep
Keith Levene died on Veterans Day 11 November 2022 at the age of 65 from Liver Cancer.
@@Texasmilitarydepartmentvid9654 very sad. Keith's early guitar work with pil was other worldly
Never saw the Clash but saw BAD Mick Jones n they were unreal
It’s physically impossible to not like this song, 9/10 dentists agree.
That 1 dentist: _Peace was never an option_
Lol
I don't know what the hell you're talking about but I'm just going to go ahead and like this anyway.
@@danirankin6130 Thank you, I do appreciate that clarification.
run Caz Always the safe option when talking to me. Suspend your logic and your panties, and we can have a conversation
This is quite possibly the happiest sounding breakup song ever. You just can't help but dance to it lol.
Truee haha
Another one of those sad songs, that if you don’t know the lyrics are happy. Like ring of Fire, or maxwells silver hammer. So happy until you realize those are about burning for eternity in the underworld, and a mass murderer.
my girl broke up with me while this was playing lmao
Tina Giordanella YES!
@@lionide138 It's a song so catchy, most people don't listen to the lyrics.
But they should! Because it's not just about the pleasures of bachelorhood, and the importance of individualism, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.
The riff, the drums, lyrics. Everything in this song is excellent craftsmanship
The harmonica
Yes! The harmonica.
i always thought that the clash were the best musicians in the punk genre
🎯
The dude on rhythm is just a bangin
The day Joe died I drank two bottles of wine while listening to this album. Cheers to you Joe. Thank you for your music.
I'm not a big Clash fan, but I love this song more than I can put into words. Simply put it's one of the greatest songs of the 20th century.
yes yes yes
So beautiful xx
Please buy this album! London Calling. I got it the first time I heard this song. I spent weeks trying to find it in stores. I bought one cassette that turned out to be country. 😢
When I finally found it, it became the soundtrack for two years of my life. All I would listen to was this and The Cars. But then it was 90% this album. Some of the songs from this album have been in movies. "Rudy Can't Fail," another of my favorites, was in a John Cusack movie. My brother would play the drums on the perfectly aligned dash in front of him and we would sing and laugh. We were the only 2 people I knew who listened to it and that made it even better. Then in 1990, Rolling Stone named it the greatest album of the 80's (actually came out in 1979). Then Sandinista, then the album where everyone started loving them, Combat Rock. With Should I Stay or Should I Go and Rock the Casbah (whatever the heck that is). Happy for their success, but sad that they weren't just mine (and my brothers anymore). Crap! How many words have I just typed? Sorry
Beautiful xxx
@@steveg1107 I have the album. I've had it for years.
I also remember when London Calling was a radio hit back in 1979 and 1980, although I was very young. I thought it was a pretty cool song.
Legends never die. Joe lives on through timeless songs like this.
My name is Butch Weatherly and I am genuinely happy to be listening to this wonderful song very, very loud on Sunday, February 25,2024 in Kihei Maui. This song has always warmed my heart and soothed my soul and I sincerely wish nothing but Peace, Happiness, and Prosperity to all who read this. Take Care and I genuinely Love you all! Sounds like you've been day drinking. 😀
@@krisgoldsmith476yeah but butch is in Hawaii. That's absolutely warranted.

Thanks Butch ......same to you !
Album of the Decade 1980’s. Recorded in ‘79.
On repeat until my heart's clamped back together 🙏
That album cover is one of the greatest pictures ever taken in rock
NCAA 2006. Good memories
Yesssss!
Oh wow. EA Sports got good taste. Heard many a choon for the first time on FIFA
One of the all time greatest sons ever written!
And it's sang by the guitarist.
@@anthonyfuqua6988 It has to be sung by the guitarist because Mick Jones and Joe Strummer both play guitar!
Sons? 🤣
@@thesoundlikechameleons2082 You know that I meant to say songs! So I made a typo.
maybe not one of the greatest sons, I rolled a 5/4/6 son, he was pretty neat (bonus points to those who get the reference)
One of the best from 1980!!!!!!
I saw them live !
This is one of my "dozen" songs. I hear it once, and I immediately want to hear it another 11 times.
Fuck yeah, over and over and over why not
That’s how I feel about Roxy Musics first album.
@@Bunny-658 That's how I feel about Roxy Music's second album.
I can’t remember exactly but I think that album is (for your pleasure) I love that one as well.
This song totally rocks. It's impossible to listen to it without swaying your body.
Puts a little strut in ya step for sure
What a beautiful thing to be proud to stand by your man. Quite rare. The level of respect it takes to earn that.
This album was a huge step forward. They had almost completely dropped a traditional punk sound, but kept the punk attitude, while experimenting with all kinds of music. Listening to their 1st album in 77, who would think just 2 years later, they would do a song like this or Revolution Rock?
My favorite by the Clash. Amazing song. "...did you lieeee when you spoke to me..."
Go out door people want play crayfish and free my soul record dig
@@sonoyta5386 What?
I have a very small stream in my yard an can catch a couple hundred crayfish a day. The waters only a few inches deep. Not the kind you'd eat but excellent fishing bait.
This is the best Clash that doesn't sound like The Clash.
This is definitely a different side of them.
They've got many songs like this one. Check out lost in supermarket, charlie don't surf, sound of sinners, should I stay or should I go
+Citadel I agree! Doesn't sound like the Clash but, still a great song nonetheless!
well joe n mick sound exactly alike.n i thought how ahead of its time its clash n its also preview of whars to come late clash n also mick with his band big audio dynamite..which is crazy cause joe is exec producer on big audio dynamite stuff
Citadel 'cause it's DISCO!
I Found this song at rock bottom. Reminded me all I had was myself, made me feel better.
❤❤️🔥🩵
The Clash were criminally understed. When the songs that didn't hit the Top10 are still🔥 nothing like it.
This ones for 5 years down the drain. Lyrics are so appropriate
@Brazilian Tex Atlantis nah man
It is not regret
It is powerful

This has always been my favorite album of all time. No matter how low I'm feeling, I put this on and it puts a smile on my face. My most prized physical possession is my original vinyl copy from 1979. Best birthday gift I ever got!
Interesting tidbit - London Calling was released December '79 in England, January '80 in the states. So it's the best album of the 70's in England, and the best album of the 80's in the US.
What an amazing band. I grew up with them in the 80s and I still love them . Joe strummer was a genius . Rip 😢
I also have an original British pressing, my most prized possession, along with my autographed photo of Bette Davis. Released in the UK the day I turned 2 months old.
This album changed my musical life
YES! Definitely a rollers boogie song!
This is one of those songs that I can listen to anytime, anyplace, anywhere. It's just awesome.
Perfection. No argument. This is what musical perfection sounds like. By all means you can disagree with me. But rest assured you are wrong.
No one is disagreeing.
That’s facts
Anthony speaks the truth
I disagree.
Just kidding.
@@cgfftrophilessspursfan9952 if you put it like that? What is a great song to you? 🤔 If you can’t present a song to compare that is better in your opinion, you have no right to disagree. Don’t come in half way with a debate. Stand your ground all the way, friend. This guy had the courage to put his heart out there knowing the likes of you would assail.

This is one of the greatest Songs of all times in my personal opinion.

Love this song, even though it reminds me of someone I'm trying to forget...
me too bro
My man, we all know that feel only too well.
It’s in the NCAA football 06 soundtrack if you played that perhaps lol
I hear you loud & clear friend. Always loved the song but the lyrics have taken on an even greater significance when my long term "partner" suddenly up and left. She "did'nt stand by me... No not at all... No way".
The first love of my life introduced me to The Clash. Years later, he took his own life. I still feel like a piece of my heart died with him.
Great song from 1979! Man, it's as good now as it was 37 years ago. Thanks for posting this timeless classic!
Agree
Stay in by me
I’m pretty sure it was released in 1980
@@Baseeksj Nope, December 1979 it was released.
100%
Equal parts attitude, reckless abandon, and anguish. Mick, Joe, Paul and Topper nailed it.
One of their best
This album was the anthem of my high school days. Get so nostalgic when I listen. Like going back in a time machine
Thats the magic of good music, no expiration date
my favorite band and song of ALL TIME. still love you Mick. xoxoxoxo
Hot take - One of the best songs of all time. The drums and especially the harmonica rifts really make it something special. The rest is great too:)
It's the locked groove between drums and guitar riff that makes it special
The Clash helped shape my life as kid in the early 80's, such an awesome Punk Band
One of those songs that can find the soul of anyone listening regardless of musical preferences.
Always been one of my favourites by The Clash ❤
This has been my favourite song since I was three, I'm so grateful my mum had good taste in music :)
One of my favourite songs from The Clash, great song!

From atart to finish, London Calling is everything
Very popular song at roller skating rinks back in the late70’s
Reminds me of high school parties! And I graduated in 07. This music is timeless
when i listen to this song on my mp3 player riding my skateboard i suddenly turn into a proskater
I cycle and also listen while walking my dog...Gotta' Pump Up The Volume Full Blast!
i see, another man of culture
That's cool, I wish I knew how to skate lol
Fellow skater 👍
When I was in primary school we sold magazines for some terrible reason and my sister and me always took music albums as our rewards. This was one. I listened to it about a million times.
Only a million? I don't know how many times I have bought London Calling in it's many formats (Vinyl, cassette, CD, Etc.).
I'm from a small Midwest town with no radio station that played anything good. It wasn't til 1985 we got cable and the original MTV. So I just looked at album covers on the flyer and bought anything. I fell in love with all of them. Only Prince I saw on Saturday Night Special and lost my damned mind. Trench coat, boots, fishnets. I think the "what the actual f" 80s were very interesting.
This song is over 40 years old and it's great to know people are still finding it!
Found this song through NCAA 06.
Revisited this song after watching 500 Days of Summer.
Became a favorite years later after developing a taste in real music and realizing who The Clash were.
Jacob Hawkins you have to check out the pixies (my favorite band) They wrote the song here comes your man that the main character sings drunk at karaoke
