Lyrics
London calling to the faraway towns
Now war is declared, and battle come down
London calling to the underworld
Come out of the cupboard, you boys and girls
London calling, now don't look to us
Phoney Beatlemania has bitten the dust
London calling, see we ain't got no swing
Except for the ring of that truncheon thing
The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in
Meltdown expected, the wheat is growing thin
Engines stop running, but I have no fear
'Cause London is drowning, and I live by the river
London calling to the imitation zone
Forget it brother, you can go it alone
London calling to the zombies of death
Quit holding out, and draw another breath
London calling, and I don't wanna shout
But while we were talking, I saw you nodding out
London calling, see we ain't got no high
Except for that one with the yellowy eyes
The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in
Engines stop running, the wheat is growing thin
A nuclear error, but I have no fear
'Cause London is drowning, and I live by the river
The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in
Engines stop running, the wheat is growing thin
A nuclear error, but I have no fear
'Cause London is drowning, and I live by the river
Now get this...
London calling, yes, I was there too
And you know what they said? Well, some of it was true!
London calling at the top of the dial
And after all this, won't you give me a smile?
London calling...
I never felt so much alike alike alike alike...
Will never stop loving the Clash for the electric blend of mod, punk, and rock.

I needed to hear this song tonight. It just seems so relevant at the moment. It should be played on loud speakers across the country.
Especially near the mosques around prayer times. 😎
I saw Joe Strummer by himself in a record shop in San Francisco he was singing and playing his guitar I don't think anyone recognised him but I did. A very special moment almost like a private gig ❤😂
I'm jealous
That is awesome; thanks for sharing.
Lucky you!
Good on you, abbyward!

So gosh darn correct. One of my top ten best albums EVER. Side 3 is perfection.
It did. It does. It will always.
Think it was written because they were having to go back to London because of the threat of a war at the time of something like that. So you were pretty spot on haha
Holy shit miracle of sound comments on music videos!
That's me, a huge Clash fan from back in the day!
GOD BLESS THE CLASH AND THEIR FAMILIES FOR ETERNITY AND INFINITY FOR THIS SONG IN "THE BOYS".

One of the greatest rock bands of all time; and certainly the greatest punk band of all time. Far more musical talent than they were ever given credit for.
I could never understand why they were called punk....
@@oldpoppymaybe because they started out making punk music
A masterpiece.
Fun Fact: At the end of the song on the guitar you can hear SOS in Morse Code
···---···
'SOS remained the maritime radio distress signal until 1999, when it was replaced by the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System.[4]' - Wikipedia, SOS

It's still the distress signal if you're using CW (Morse code)

Personally the best moment in the Clash maybe my whole musical experience is at 3.01 when Joe sings 'London Calling at the top of the dial and after all this won't you give me a smile." Perfect.
I'm obsessed with "forget it brother you can go it alone!"
I'm more of "yes I was there too" like he's saying yeah mf I was! 💯🔥🤘
I should add this a revolutionary track, because it sounds just as fresh and current now as it did when originally released all those years ago, a true master of song writing.
As a professional bassist in a band, I can appreciate the iconic intro bass riff. It's such a cool punk bass riff.
A part of my history I am proud of.
Every time someone needs a soundtrack to go with footage of London.

I feel so lucky that I saw the Clash played live back in 1985. It was a legendary concert that lasts up to 3 hours. They did 4 encores and they play four times the Brand New Cadillac as a request of the audience!

I heard this song on the radio today as I was driving to work. Man it sounds so fresh and vital as it did when it first came out. I wish I could have aged so well!!
Top song. Top band. Sadly they don’t make music like this any more.
They do,you just have to find it.
@@dzimikes how old are you!!. You wouldn't understand. I lived in London when this song came out. It was of it's time. And if you wasn't there, you wouldn't understand. Ironically, the two most important bands to come out of Britain are the Clash and the Beatles. Nothing against the Stones or Sex Pistols but they just don't stand in the same arena as these two (at least for me).
Zeppelin is the best rock band of all time
Look how many groups were formed as a result of the pistols and tell me the clash were more important. The clash were better songwriters and better musicians but had no where near the impact.
I'd argue to put Queen as one of the three most important bands too.
you could argue that cream was one of the most influential bands of all time as well as one of the most talented.
In my opinion, Beatles are boring and overrated

This song reflects what I think is best about British culture, gritty realism disguised as a light-hearted sing song.
Well london has let this go, the state of that city today is a disgrace and a shell of what it was
There are no bad times for British people, just excuses to take the piss out of a situation you really shouldn't be. I blame the weather personally for our eccentric personalities.
