Every Breath became the most widely pervading legacy due to its poppy quality, covers and remixing etc. Message in Bottle, also quite poppy, remains a solid and pretty popular radio song. But Roxanne is THE iconic song. In itself, it is simply out there on its own. It broke the norms and established the band as unique. Still, Walking on the Moon is, for me, the most sublime.

Thank you RUclips for enabling us to see this video. I had the Police's hits recorded on a tape back in the day when I was a kid. I was too young to go out and see them live. The eighties was pretty grim for most working -class people in London. The highlight was -some- of the music. The Police was one of the bands I first got into, along side the Jam and the Rolling Stones. The music from good bands never dies!

TOP TEN SONG OF ALL TIME! ONE SERIOUSLY AMAZING SONG!
Copelands drumming, so original and brilliant. As a drummer myself he's just insanely talented. On the second verse he doesn't use the snare once, very rarely done. The rimshots and little licks are brilliant too. There is multi tracking on this but his basic drumming is awesome.
He's also a multi instrument player. He sings great too. He has solo work on here he did before joining the Police.
Tama Swing Star drum, if I remember well. I played it once, though mine was a Ludwig.
Musical gorgeousity, the drumming.
that's why if guys are intelligent enough that wanted to make it in pop rock, then study everything you can; mainly jazz, which got more important than ever in the 80s to have something else to fall back on. one girl i was involved with briefly in the 90s, didn't like his playing, and i knew right off the bat it was because she didn't understand what he was doing at all. so, you can have the brains and talent, but you still need to understand how to make something like Stuy's drumming work.
Stewart is one of the best drummers of all time. He's a human metronome.

3:53 Stewart hits Sting in the head with a drumstick and Sting's trying not to crack up lol. I just watched the Stewart interview with Rick Beato and he talks about how he accidentally cracked one of Sting's ribs when they were horsing around.
The song is absolutely incredible. The lyrics and the voice of Sting, the amazing riff and tone of Andy and the drumming of Stewart that changes through the whole song. Third verse hi hat work is one of the best I’ve heard.
I don't know about the technicalities of drumming technique, but right from their first album I sensed the drumming was special, and now my assessment has been confirmed in the Internet Age.
The first record I bought. Glowing charisma and outrageous positivism
Replying from the Future- its Summer of 2023,
(Prince and) Morris Day & the Time's '777-9311' being broken down by drummers led me to 'the Pocket Queen' who had THIS song as one of the top five that influenced her. I hadn't noticed how Copeland's drumming changed throughout the song, I'd always concentrated on Sting's Bass playing.
Now, I'm gonna go back and (re)listen to it again...
The breakout at the end with the asynchronous open to the ride is classic Copeland and worth the ticket money on its own. Love the style, love the sound!

"The only police that's good in the hood" - Kanye West
(He accualy said this )
What a madlad.
He would say that
Broken clocks.
This song is funny for people from the former Yugoslavia since we heard "mesečina blato" and it means "moonlight mud" instead of Message in the bottle
If you played Guitar hero 2 🙌 and was addicted to playing this song… yeah this the button for that
Day 199 of me listening to Message In A Bottle every day for a year

Sigh.... I miss this band.
IMHO,greatest band of the 80's
Without a doubt... the thing with The Police is they were able to mix pop, rock, reggae, dance all into one ball and be VERY successful doing it. I am not sure any other band that I know of was able to do that.
Travis Kqaz smiths are pretty good, also aerosmith
T Moody I know Andy Summers, well my gf does. I had lunch with him once, thanks to my gf. I asked him what was his technically favorite album that they made. He said their first album Outlandos D'Amour. He's funny too.
