Lyrics:
Giant steps are what you take
Walking on the moon
I hope my legs don't break
Walking on the moon
We could walk forever
Walking on the moon
We could live together
Walking on, walking on the moon
Walking back from your house
Walking on the moon
Walking back from your house
Walking on the moon
Feet they hardly touch the ground
Walking on the moon
My feet don't hardly make no sound
Walking on, walking on the moon
Some may say
I'm wishing my days away
No way
And if it's the price I pay
Some say
Tomorrow's another day
You stay
I may as well play
Giant steps are what you take
Walking on the moon
I hope my legs don't break
Walking on the moon
We could walk forever
Walking on the moon
We could be together
Walking on, walking on the moon
Some may say
I'm wishing my days away
No way
And if it's the price I pay
Some say
Tomorrow's another day
You stay
I may as well play
Keep it up, keep it up
Yo yo yo yo

Me: What instrument do you play?
Sting: Bass and vocals
Andy: Guitar
Stewart: The Saturn V

Technically the F1 engine of the Saturn V, but I digress....

I love how, across every music video by the police, Stewart will always drum on some random object. Class.
Lol totally
well beyond brilliant for posterity !!!
In most interviews, Stewart humbly claims that he's just a guy "who bangs on shit". He says he's random, and maybe that's true, but we all know that he always found beats that nobody knew even existed in time, which makes his drumming...well, timeless.

This proves that music doesn't have to be complicated. Less is more.
yes dude😉
I'm sure it's much more complicated than it sounds and that an average person wouldn't be able to replicate the sounds on offer-particularly Stewart Copelands drumming and percussion.
There's few elements, but I guess they (or at least a couple of them) are more complexified.
What they did between 1978 and 1983 is just unbelievable. What a band. So much space for afterthought in their music, but still you don't miss a thing. Minimalism, energy, attitude and skill.
Great comment right here and well said. I guess we're showing how much older we all are now.

I saw Sting last night in Sydney. Wow, that guy oozes talent. Still sounds and looks great. His show took us all back in time and reminded us what a big influence The Police and he as an individual artist has been.

Just reacquainted myself with this song after so many years. Didn't appreciate just how clever and beautiful it is. The drums especially are played like a lead instrument while the bass compliments and the guitar provides the beat. Great group, great musicians.
Great observation 🥰
It really is quite standard reggae drumming. There is one drop, steppers and rockers. Then, of course they throw some rock style drumming in the mix...

Then..... Who stole our future?
I was born in 69. MTV started when I was junior high. I remember watching these videos before and after school. I used to listen to the Police, Rush, Pink Floyd, AC DC, Metallica, Guns n Roses, The Cure, Depeche Mode, New Order, Madonna, etc etc etc. I could go on and on. Plus that was when Walkman's were invented... the pre-IPod era. Music today does not even compare. Also, we used to go to the arcade to play video games. We'd all get together and have tournaments away from our parents. Then, we used to play football, baseball, basketball, frisbee, hacky sack, bikes, skateboards, etc outside with all the kids in the neighborhoods. It was truly the best time to have grown up as a child. I feel sorry for these young kids... they are so deprived... they have no idea!
@@tommyzeus2802 Yeah. We thought nothing was going to be the same again. We thought we were the Bomb then. It felt so good. The Police didn't take themselves too seriously, at first. Their videos were said to have a bit of Marx Brothers energy to them. High praise back then...

One of the most influential 3 piece bands in music history. Each member brought a level of pure talent to the band that few groups could boast on their best days. That sound/grove/blend of genres that The Police mastered is so ubiquitous to them, they have a profoundly unmistakable sound. Sting may be the greatest bass player ever. No, they wouldn't be a huge band and let me explain you the reason why: The three of them are great musicians but the formula that made them popular back them was good for awhile but then they became repetitive so that wouldn't last that long, same would have happened with Nirvana if Cobain still would be alive. I think the only band that could succeed using the same formula over and over again is AC/DC, they have a unique voice, a unique guitar sound and even though they've copied themselves many times people still love their music.
