Lyrics:
Giant steps are what you take
Walking on the moon
I hope my legs don't break
Walking on the moon
We could walk forever
Walking on the moon
We could live together
Walking on, walking on the moon
Walking back from your house
Walking on the moon
Walking back from your house
Walking on the moon
Feet they hardly touch the ground
Walking on the moon
My feet don't hardly make no sound
Walking on, walking on the moon
Some may say
I'm wishing my days away
No way
And if it's the price I pay
Some say
Tomorrow's another day
You stay
I may as well play
Giant steps are what you take
Walking on the moon
I hope my legs don't break
Walking on the moon
We could walk forever
Walking on the moon
We could be together
Walking on, walking on the moon
Some may say
I'm wishing my days away
No way
And if it's the price I pay
Some say
Tomorrow's another day
You stay
I may as well play
Keep it up, keep it up

One of the best 80s tunes ever
And......!!!!
70s actually. :)

@@simongilbert2704Awh, the great winter of 79. I remember being sent home from school because of the blizzards 😅 great memories.
One of the great any decade tunes.
1981, 20 yrs old, in the military, early afternoon walked into a lounge barely opening for the day and a song was playing kinda low but I got hooked on the beat. Asked the bartender the name of the song, says, "Walking On The Moon, the Police"..... never forgot, love this song to this day in 2024!
Well, i like me too this song

My dad gave me the singles record, i started playing on my room in 1992, soon all my neighbours were asking me to borrow the album.

Sting: Bass and vocals
Andy: Guitar
Stewart: The Saturn V

Technically the F1 engine of the Saturn V, but I digress....

well beyond brilliant for posterity !!!
In most interviews, Stewart humbly claims that he's just a guy "who bangs on shit". He says he's random, and maybe that's true, but we all know that he always found beats that nobody knew even existed in time, which makes his drumming...well, timeless.

What they did between 1978 and 1983 is just unbelievable. What a band. So much space for afterthought in their music, but still you don't miss a thing. Minimalism, energy, attitude and skill.

Agree: absolutely amazing group; had the privilege of seeing them play live at Aylesbury Friars in 1983.
There will never be another band like the Police
This proves that music doesn't have to be complicated. Less is more.
yes dude😉
I'm sure it's much more complicated than it sounds and that an average person wouldn't be able to replicate the sounds on offer-particularly Stewart Copelands drumming and percussion.
There's few elements, but I guess they (or at least a couple of them) are more complexified.
A golden rule 👍
That’s the art of production
I am a guitarist and bassist but have always been mesmerized by Stewart Copelands drums. What a great group of musicians.

These guys were on a whole different level, rock style influenced by punk, reggae and jazz. Absolutely brilliant!
One was a jazz/60s rock guitarist and the other two were prog with Egyptian influences and jazz

That's amazing because that's exactly how I used to feel, listening to this in my bedroom on my record player at 10 years old in 1979; mystery and happiness - and maybe a touch of "what does the future hold"? Anyway - it's good stuff.
That's exactly how I feel about this song.

This is timeless. It’s a rhythmic masterpiece. I’ve been in awe since I was a 1980s teen.
Just reacquainted myself with this song after so many years. Didn't appreciate just how clever and beautiful it is. The drums especially are played like a lead instrument while the bass compliments and the guitar provides the beat. Great group, great musicians.
Great observation 🥰
It really is quite standard reggae drumming. There is one drop, steppers and rockers. Then, of course they throw some rock style drumming in the mix...
@@razakza There is too much syncopation and rushing the beat, to be a real reggae drumming.. but it worked for them, so... I like what they did

The 80s must have been an exciting time to be alive. Can anyone confirm?
You are correct
The 80s have produced a lot of great music which is still played to this day. But in the first place the 80s were exciting because we were young back then.
we didn't know how good we had it
The 80s were awesome!
It was! I was a starting goaltender on my hockey team, a beautiful girlfriend, Reagan in office--not a senile, pedophile who can't draw a crowd of 20 yet he "won" 81 million votes? Bullshit. Reagan made us proud to be Americans. The music was awesome: The Police, Elvis, Joe Jackson, Genesis, Dylan's "Infidels", tom Petty, etc. MTV was exciting and we waited for new videos. People were alert and not zombies walking with their iphones. People were nicer and the US society was more polite and crime was punished.
The music of THE POLICE touches deeply my soul! 🥰❤🥰

One of the most influential 3 piece bands in music history. Each member brought a level of pure talent to the band that few groups could boast on their best days. That sound/grove/blend of genres that The Police mastered is so ubiquitous to them, they have a profoundly unmistakable sound. Sting may be the greatest bass player ever. Andy Summers guitar work is sublime & grotesquely under appreciated Steward Copeland's cerebral/introspective approach to all aspects of drumming has put him in a league few could hope to join. If you're old enough to have lived it, I'm envious. To those like me who found them long after their hay day, congratulations on opening yourself up to some amazing music.

This is probably my favorite song by The Police. The mix between Reggae and Rock is very good and the Bass here is amazing.

The best song from The Police for me and I had the opportunity to tell Sting personally while having a drink in a Miami club. Back in 2002 aprox. His group was such a nice and humble people. Mr. Gordon Summer Thx for your music!!!!!!!
One of my absolute favorite bands of all time. A vibe no band copy. This is my beach music with the top down.
The Police progressive rock tried something different. Injecting Reggae into they're sound. And it f'ing worked great!
New wave!!!! Ska and reggae with a crisper sound to it.
@@erinduncan8833 Sometimes a little bit of jazz.
