My best friend thought it was a really bad idea to put this song on the mixed tape that played during my wedding ceremony. divorced now, my former wife remains a good friend. Every year for laughs I send her this song and it never fails to get a positive response. That's nice. Sometimes the little things make all the bad things of the past much easier to handle. Great music seems to do that. This song never fails to make us both realize that failing in a relationship isn't the worst thing that can happen. really bad taste in music is by far the worst thing that can happen. for me the sweet irony of this song will always be a way to connect with a good friend, whom I still love.

HOWARD B. I see where you’re coming from Howard, and I’m pretty defensive too about record companies re-marketing old Joy Division songs to make a quick buck, but when the vocals are made clearer, visuals of the video are improved to look sharper, etc. I can see the merit in changing it, while still keeping up the original version to listen to. If I saw a DVD of Love Will Tear Us Apart slapped with a $25.99 price tag at the shop I’d get a little fussy, but as is a few alternate versions are all right. I prefer the original and the Peel Sessions versions myself because they’re a bit grittier, but no harm in giving fans some variety. I assume a cut of the RUclips money must go to the other members of the band as well.
@@AndrewInCanada99 I can see your point but I don't like Peter Hook and his guitar is way too foward in the remixes and he was the money chaser. I met Ian during the early times and just before he left us. I'll treasure my first pressing of unknown pleasures and the message Ian wrote on the inner sleeve.. Joy D were not meant to be pop. As you say it's the gritty dark sound that is the real band and Peter showed he was a money chaser by the way he exploited the catalogue and New Order. They were a joke in my opinion. RIP Ian xx

I love this song because it has so much soul. It doesn't sound like something they would make for their fans or in attempt to get big and famous. you "germans" aren't special or any better than any others.... so get ova ya selfs...
your right aye between bout 79 and 83 just after disco but before the big hair bands of the mid-late eighties, and hip hop
I have been playing drums for 40 years and this drummer is from a different planet. Unbelievably good

What a tune, RIP Ian in heaven you are now, no more suffering

“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams
The guy was an absolute genius. A working class hero. The band were also incredible proven by the success of New Order. Probably my favourite band of all time.
Yes..iceman90
They’re awesome aren’t they!?!?! A lot of talent in that band
This is the gold standard.
Without a shadow of a doubt 😀
Rest in peace, Mr. Curtis! You live forever through this song.
FOREVER IAN
One of the best songs ever written and song. Even after 20 years i still listen and love this song.
Just now in this precise moment on a day like today but 40 years ago, Ian Curtis took his life, leaving behind a legacy with his song telling of his failed marriage, Rest in peace this legendary singer and may his music live forever
And hes effectively telling us why in this.....
@This is my B00Mstick Never knew that man, cheers.....I knew that he really really meant all of this song and it wasn't created out of nothing....
This song plus that’s entertainment by the jam and this charming man by the smiths, got to be some of the greatest songs of all time.
Cheers to that

Some of the most poignant, beautiful and bitter sweet lyrics ever commited to record
Big Facts
Jayson Davis agreed plus most other smiths songs.
Honestly the best version of the song, the guitar sounds so bittersweet, there's acoustic and a muted electric, Ian's voice sounds so crisp and upfront. I don't see much conversion about it online wish I did and wish this was on spotify or able to listen to it elsewhere
Agreed, the outro is so much better. This is known as the "Radio Version" and it is the one that you're supposed to hear along with the video, the other upload's got it wrong (You can tell they're miming to this one if you look close enough). It was included on this release: ruclips.net/video/rLXNZA5a1ME/видео.html
it's a bitter-sweet song. i remember the feelings when i 1st heard this song.
it was oddly on a rainy day. A day of heavy rain in the 1980s. ☮️🎶-j from mystery wife's RUclips with her permission of course.
Rest in peace Ian. The soundtrack of a generation.
Out of all of the comments I've read, this one must be one of the best

God damn Stephen Morris is a great drummer. He plays that beat for three and a half minutes like it’s nothing!
And not break a sweat!
What good is perfect beat if it dominates / The remaster may have done that
He did two tracks for this song but yeah he’s insane
no matter what version. beautiful song
Have to disagree with that. ANYTHING that was remixed without Ian was done for money and fame. Two things that he didn't want. I'm 6 0 now and was lucky enough to see them alot
RIP Ian xx
@@PINKFL0YD-s2h Hooky's said a few times that the reason Hanett continued to mix and remix LWTUA is because he never felt like his last mix done the song, and Ian, justice. Eventually Factory ran out of money and forced him to stop working on the song. Tragic really.
@@PINKFL0YD-s2h So Ian left specific instructions for you to be his spokesman after his death did he ? I actually prefer this to the original.

Rip Ian curtis 41 years gone but never forgotten
I first heard this when I was 14, am 56 now and it still gives me goosebumps. So beautiful. Miss you Ian ❤️
I could listen to a thousand million versions of love will tear us apart, and need nothing else
I love this song because it has so much soul. It doesn't sound like something they would make for their fans or in attempt to get big and famous. It sounds like just bunch of talented guys jamming together and coming up with this beautiful song that they wrote from the heart. Its very relatable for that reason for me
Rare song that brings both happiness and sadness. Make the most of your time on this rock ❤

Voted the best single of all time. And still amazing
[Verse 1]
When routine bites hard
And ambitions are low
And resentment rides high
But emotions won't grow
And we're changing our ways, taking different roads
[Chorus]
Then love, love will tear us apart again
Love, love will tear us apart again
[Verse 2]
Why is the bedroom so cold?
You've turned away on your side
Is my timing that flawed?
Our respect runs so dry
Yet there's still this appeal
That we've kept through our lives
[Chorus]
But love, love will tear us apart again
Love, love will tear us apart again
[Verse 3]
You cry out in your sleep
All my failings exposed
And there's a taste in my mouth
As desperation takes hold
Just that something so good
Just can't function no more
[Chorus ]
Then love, love will tear us apart again
Love, love will tear us apart again
Then love, love will tear it apart again
Love, love will tear it apart again
In a few weeks Ian Curtis will have been gone for Forty years.......icon , influencer and victim of mental illness ....visionary and genius.

What a fantastic piece of drumming, and a stupendous bass line. An exemplary example of how the backbone of a rock/pop band should work.

I come back to this thread every now and again and the one thing that always strikes me every time l do is the complete love there is for Ian. In 20 years from now I think the same will be true, people like Curtis don't disappear and people like us I guess are the custodians.
I sincerely hope Ian's family and mates know so many people love him, and are being those custodians of his art.
Because it's pretty groundbreaking musically many people don't think much about the lyrics but they're absolute genius
