    My car battery starts losing voltage as soon as the auto stop gets triggered. I have to shut the car off and turn it back on when that happens, otherwise the battery will die completely. If i restart it, the battery goes back to normal voltage. Does this sound like the alternator or something else?

    Did you take the A/C compressor off first to get to those lower bolts? I couldn't really tell in the video but on mine there's an A/C line right in front of one of the lower bolts and looks impossible to remove unless I remove the line. The line I'm referring to is just to the right of your hand at 17:30 but it looks like you've got a little bit more space than I do.

      Chris Robinson no I did not . Would not recommend I’m moving AC line you’re just gonna have to get them from up top use long handled ratchet or air ratchet and it’s going to be a struggle but you’ll get them ! Sorry wish I had more of a Definitive answer for you . Wish you luck !

      Chris Robinson yes I also seen identifix procedure but I did not feel like taking off bumper radiator and fans all that stuff it’s100% possible it’s just a struggle figuring out the right combination of ratchet and socket an extension to reach underneath there and get them bolts!

      Thank you so much for your responses and posting this video in the first place. You've provided a lot of insight. I unfortunetly have to replace the bracket that the alternator, A/C compressor, and tensioner all live on, so it's all gotta come out in my case anyhow, I was just kinda thrown off by the order of disassembly. I have to replace the tensioner in my case so I wound up removing that first which gave much easier access to the bolts on the underside. Still definetely need an air wrench and some adapters for those though.

    How exactly did you get those two lower bolts off of the alternator?

    • @thecarlotmechanic4531
      @thecarlotmechanic4531  4 года назад

      They were a pain I used a smaller 3/8 air ratchet and a 1in extension and a mid depth socket .. I found the bolts with my hand and then stuck the air ratchet under there and tried to guide it with my hand until I could catch the boat and spin it out . found that the rearward bolt was easier to get from the top and the frontward bolt was easy from bottom ... To be honest there’s no set way very tight space...

    • @chrisrobinson6708
      @chrisrobinson6708 4 года назад +1

      @@thecarlotmechanic4531 Very tight space indeed, but at least you're confirming it can be done without removing the bumper and radiator like I was preparing to do. Identifix procedure says to remove both bolts from the bottom of the car, but I can't even see or feel one of the two bolts and the tight space makes it seem impossible.

    Do you have to disconnect the battery to only change the drive belt on the hybrid?

  • @sanchfire
    @sanchfire 3 года назад

    did you switch the high voltage battery off? i have similar issue, i replaced the drive belt.. sound remains, i did put a large pry bar to the valve cover and noise seem to be coming from timing chain. so i took it to a mechanic told me the noise is coming from the "electronic motor" is what he called it. - he don't want to work on it cause he never done one before... scardy cat! so with this video im going to open it up see whats what..

    • @thecarlotmechanic4531
      @thecarlotmechanic4531  3 года назад

      R San nice go for it . No you do not have to switch off high-voltage battery all you have to do is just cut the power right up the battery under the hood and you will be just fine. I had the same problem with that Malibu in the video it sounded exactly like timing chain failure but it was the electric motor !

    • @sanchfire
      @sanchfire 3 года назад

      @@thecarlotmechanic4531 so now im a bit confused.. i removed the drive belt and for the heck of it .. started the car and guess what.. the same noise from exactly the same spot - around the timing chain... the pulley of that there alternator is pretty tight and spins really smooth . . tensioner issue/ timing chain ! eeeh

    • @thecarlotmechanic4531
      @thecarlotmechanic4531  3 года назад

      R San yikes . Yeah if you remove the drive belt and started the engine and it sounds like crap still definitely something internal sorry to hear that man .

    • @thecarlotmechanic4531
      @thecarlotmechanic4531  3 года назад

      R San You can pull the valve cover and inspect the time in chain and you should be able to physically see something broken or the slack in the chain. Fairly simple job there is a bunch of videos on RUclips of them demonstrating how to do the timing on those eco-tech engine common issues with those cars!

    • @thecarlotmechanic4531
      @thecarlotmechanic4531  4 года назад +2

      Wavy Kid hello so My alternator was replaced due to bad bearings in it so my alternator sounded extremely loud and was making a growling noiseThe battery light did not come on because it was still charging the vehicle. Although a vehicle dying as well as displaying the battery light is symptoms of a worn out alternator one thing you can try is charging your battery fully starting your car then remove one of your battery cables and if the car dies immediately usually a sign of a warrant out alternator or otherwise test your negative and positive battery cable with a voltmeter this vehicle should be charging anywhere from 13.5 to 14.5 V anything under that is not sufficient

    So you don’t show the hard part like removing the lower bolts. Makes people wonder if you did it or had some one else do it for you either way would be a great video if you showed how you got them out exactly like tolls and how you accessed them just a suggestion. I need to do it so I guess I am just being selfish lol sorry it was great video.

      A.J.'s Seamless Gutters this alternator is for the 2014 Chevy Malibu 2.4 L hybrid I believe the amperage is over 200 . Www.car-part.com
      Type in your vehicles information and then click electrical then go to alternator and it should tell you what your vehicle has depending on engine size.

    • @thecarlotmechanic4531
      @thecarlotmechanic4531  4 года назад +1

      Ricky Villagomez hey Ricky ! So I found out the Easiest way without specialty tool is to take a screwdriver put it through the whole on the tensioner and put it inside the bolt hole and then take a hammer and tap /knock the spring and the place under the lip ...

    • @thecarlotmechanic4531
      @thecarlotmechanic4531  4 года назад +1

      Or you can use a small c clamp to compress tension spring.

      If you have access to a voltmeter just test the output on your car’s battery if your alternator is charging the normal battery it should be charging your hybrid battery I believe on GM the alternator charging volts should be 13.5 or above With a load on meaning Headlights radio heater all that stuff turned on .

    • @thecarlotmechanic4531
      @thecarlotmechanic4531  4 года назад

      my Alternator sounded so bad that originally I thought the timing chain guides were bad/broke .. Only thing to do is take the belt off and spin the pulleys and see which ones making noise if you cannot accurately hear them with the screwdriver on the case of the alternator or AC compressor.. you can try taking the handle of the screwdriver and putting it inside the opening of like a washer fluid bottle and cut the base off the washer bottle and relisten to both AC compressor and alternator the bottle will really amplify the noise.
