    Same lay out as my 2013 Chevy Malibu. My alternator just seized up and caused my serpentine to blow. Looking at some videos on how to do it myself. Thanks for the upload

    Went more or less as you showed it. I found it a little easier to put the car on ramps so I could get to the bottom easier. Also the only way I could move the tensioner was from the bottom with a long breaker bar. Damn thing was tight. Had to remove some plastic shielding underneath but other than that not much was different. All the bolts were 13mm (I don't think you mentioned that). Hardest part was getting the new one down in through the opening. Thanks for the video!

    is the 2014 Malibu LS Fleet the same ? I put in new battery, and it wouldn't crank up four days later there wasn't a battery warning light alert. After charging it up, I tested the alternator with a volt meter and it only read 10.24

      Hopefully that helps, but without actually knowing the symptoms it’s hard to say.. does it just not crank after driving? After sitting for some time? Will it stay running after you’ve jumped it until you turn off the car?

    • @zachmiller289

      You could have a bad battery that isn’t accepting a charge from the alternator. When the car is running it usually gets all the electricity it needs from the alternator. If the battery doesn’t charge while the engine is running you’ll have to jump start it each time you start it up.

    I agree with the other guy in the comments. The Malibu in this video is a 2013-2015 8th generation Malibu. There's no way this is a 2016 Malibu. The 2016 Malibu is the 9th generation which is the current generation and the engine bay looks completely different than the one in this video. The engine bay in this video looks just like my 2014 Malibu. I was hoping to see how to take the serpentine belt off but you skipped it. Also would have been nice to actually show how to bolt the new alternator in. Oh well, time to hunt for another video.

      Sorry but both of you are still wrong. The VIN doesn’t lie. And I apologize I didn’t show everything as my phone died during this recording. But I did explain how to remove the belt tensioner @3:20 All you need is a half inch drive ratchet or breaker bar inserted into the square hole I pointed to and then turn counter clockwise. Very easy.

      Hello! Sorry I can’t remember why that segment of the video is gone but I think I ran out of battery or something. But I just used a flexible head ratchet with a 13mm socket to get the bottom bolt off. You basically just have to feel for it. I wouldn’t have been able to get a very good shot of me doing that bolt either just because it’s so far down there.

    Poor diag. the problem is you did not diag. this correctly you had a smart alternator you replace it for nothing your problem is at your ECM not sendind signal to the alternator to star charging Bad call .

    • @zachmiller289
      @zachmiller289  2 года назад

      You’re entitled to your opinion, but I didn’t perform the diag for this vehicle. Customer brought it in from another shop stating it needed an alternator. Before replacement while running the voltage continually decreased, after replacement you can see around 13.5V which would charge the battery. So I’m not sure where you’re going with your comment, but the alternator fixed this customer’s issue. Good day.
