You can remove it without going underneath. I just did mine completely from above & had it out in about 30 mins. Most difficult part is removing the old alternator you have to maneuver it through all the hoses and mounts. My advice to anyone would be remember which way the old one came out to put the new one in. I noticed the best option was top 2 mounts out first then work it out. Took me around an hour to do start to finish. Great video thanks for the help!
@@azziespindler8412 Thank you man I just finished removing it from the top and the trickiest part to me was the tensioner. It needed a 3/8 ratchet. I've never seen that before.
You just need socket set ( preferred long ones), flat head screw driver to remove that rubber line, and star torque bits to remover engine cover. I would also suggest using 1/2 inch wrench to remove belt,

This is very helpful! I had question. If the alternator is going out, does it effect your air condition?
Yes, bad alternator effects your AC
@@azziespindler8412 Thank you for replying back. I appreciate it. I was about to buy a whole new battery.
@jaclynbee4784 u can take your to auto zone and they can tell u if u have bad battery or bad alternator.
When taking off the bottom bolt and the connector did you do that from underneath the car?
Yes I did it from bottom, but u can do it from top. It's just easier from bottom

Where is the starter located on this model of Malibu?
Hi, sorry for late notice. But Starter location is under car, behind oil pan drain plug and above it. It’s like right above drain plug.
@@azziespindler8412 thank you sir!

Why did I get charged over $500 to replace my alternator? Labor looks to be minimal.
A new alternator can be 300-400 for the part and the 1hr of charged labor probably was 150ish.
The alternator i sonly $160 i f you do it your self it be better ! save tons of money !
True
i just bought an alternator for this cat for 190. but i had to search high and low. the rest were 300 and up
