Steve, your a good mechanic/machinist. I have a 2008 Chev Malibu hybrid and it called for that Chevrolet tool EN 48932, and it is no where to be rented and the $300.00 tool cost had me almost stumped on what to do. But now I can go forward to get my car running again. Thank you for sharing your brilliant tool ideas.
You should have done it yourself from the beginning I’m the same way sometimes and I end up going to a mechanic because I don’t feel like doing it and then regret it
I alternated between a huge pair of channel lock pliers and a pry-bar to slowly get a hose clamp tight enough to hold the spring compressed. Or just take it out and do it in a bench-vice. Cranking down on the hose clamp by itself will just bust the clamp.

Use a 5inch c clamp you got to remove the whole motor mount....
I wish I saw that 1 year ago. I made my own tool also but like your design better
You said you had to take the idler off because it was still too tight but last time I did one of these it had a second normal tensioner on the bottom
I spend 3 days trying to put this belt on and still no luck I remove the spring I just can't get the belt on the middle pully any help thanks
just had this job done at the dealership and spent 1000$ easy I hate that I had to spend that amount seem like the parts cost more then the labor
Thank u
Good job
Your oil leak is the crank seal its throwing oil
Did that fix belt problem?
Yeah you helped me out I'll make sure to never buy the car that you're working on, that looks like a nightmare. WOW $800 in labor over a belt

A 5inch c clamp works great
