To most people passing on the A27 the building is the COLLEGE not the chapel. If only they knew. A magnificent building, built with traditional Sussex timing. Unless there is another project like this anywhere, it's a sobering thought that this might be the last place of worship ever built in traditional style. Lovely video.
Probably like most of the other pupils there who were compelled to attend a chapel service every Sunday, never really appreciated the magnificence of the chapel as a schoolboy there in the ‘70’s but I do now! My Dad also attended the school but he spent most of his time in the Ludlow area where the school was evacuated to in WWII. Interesting to see the new(ish) West end of the chapel as I’ve not been back to the school since the chapel was finished. Great vlog Kevin. Thankyou 👍.
Thank you, Clive 😊. What an amazing place to have been at school. I think most kids don't really take in their surroundings, especially while at school. But you can appreciate it now that is the important thing 😊.
A magnificent building, tastefully explored and presented, by a man who knows what side his bread is buttered, with acknowledgement to the nuances of the appreciation of the audience gathered here. I rest my case... 👍👍👍
Hi Kevin Cynthia and Steve as if the outside of the Chapel was not fantastic enough, but when you walk in that door it sure takes your breath away it is so fantastic how beautiful it all is . Thankyou so much for a Reay great video ❤
Thank you, Fiona 😊. We were so lucky to have the chance to have a look around the chapel and to be able to look at the chapels in the lower areas. Really appreciate your comment, Fiona
A stunning building and you can see how amazed you were as you entered. The larger organ is so beautiful and the shear scale and height of the building is as you said breathtaking. Always like seeing the stain glass windows.
I loved this video Kevin and the way you portrayed it was outstanding. You saw things that I have never seen during my many visits. I'm so glad the crypt was open for you to see. It's always closed during school times when the pupils are around, and it's amazing what's down there, isn't it. Thank you for coming to see it with us, it was a great afternoon spent with you all 🥰
Thank you so much, Lynn 😊. Thank you for taking us there it was really a special place to go and look around. Stunning architecture and so many wonderful things to look at.
This place has always fascinated me (you can see Lanxing Chapel from the top of Leigh Hill in Surrey). I didn't realise you could go insde as I thought it was private.
Those ornately carved wooden side seats are made of Kentish Oak and were originally from Eton school but it was discover they covered ul old oil painting so they were removed and given to Lancing school.
Glad they finally finished it - it only took 154 years (finally completed in April 2022). I haven't been in there for over 50 years, it may even have been for the centenary service?
My dad used to work at the college and we would go to the chapel lots of times, beautiful place not just the chapel!

I agree people wouldn't know what it is on top of the hill.
Such a stunning chapel and the size spectacular.

I know what you mean, it does take your breath away when you go in.
