I feel that Gogeta had to put Broly down because, at that point, Broly was not only a danger to the universe but to himself. If you read the DBS Broly light novel, Broly actually suffered a worse beating from Gogeto. Gogeta beat him so bad that he actually knocked him back into his regular ssj form.
I actually haven't read the DBS Broly light novel mainly because I haven't found a good place to get it. Any recommendations on how to get it? I've read the special manga that appeared in the DBS manga, just not the novel.
Regardless, that's a really cool detail, knowing that Broly's uncontrollable nature was endangering himself most of all.

Goku also froze him long enough to try talking sense into him but broly was so out of his mind. Gogeta had no other option but to end him. Goku was probably relieved it didn’t kill him.

Gogeta probably knew he could just bring Broly back with the dragon balls. Also Gogeta was on a time limit and given the stakes he could not risk using a weak attack that would give Broly a chance to counterattack.

The Broly movie as a whole was fantastic, I liked the theme of 3 Saiyans being linked together by fate and Brolys character was honestly written well. I remember watching it in the Cinemas and just left feeling speechless, this movie is honestly a top 3 in the entire Dragon Ball franchise
I agree 100%, from a filmmaking perspective, DBS Broly is easily the best film Dragon Ball has created thus far. In terms of what I enjoy though, I do think it's one of the better films out there next to some of my personal favorites like Bojack Unbound and Cooler's Revenge.

This was a good breakdown on why Gogeta was willing to kill Broly, I never really thought about it like that. I was just happy that a fusion character was actually willing to take the fight seriously and go for the *W* for once in this franchise 😂😂
Thank you, I appreciate that! People have looked at this event in so many different ways, it's interesting to see everybody's thoughts about it and it's cool to learn why those people think the way they do. This is just my own interpretation of the event though, so hopefully it makes sense to people who might think otherwise.

What's sad is that for a split second, during the Goku God Bind moment. You can actually see Broly consider the possibility of stopping the fight. But you just see him realize that he can't because his father will be dissapointed.
Edit: I do feel like Gogeta jumped the shark too quick. Instead of trying to subdue Broly or just knock him out, Gogeta jumped to immediately kill Broly. I get Broly was getting stronger and stronger, but both Goku and Vegeta are fighting geniuses. They could've thought of something to subdue Broly without gravely injuring him
I mean, after reading some of these comments and looking back at the movie, I feel that after the Stardust breaker Broly should have been easily defeated, in the moment of being incapacitated, when he wakes up to see the full force Kamehameha coming at him, he can't even counter it with a Mouth Blast or a Gigantic Meteor. So the necessity of doing the full force Kamehameha makes me question it even more. Either way, had they chose not to do that, he would've been wished back to Vampa by the end of the Stardust Breaker and it would've been game. I ended up watching this whole video when searching why does Gogeta smile ._.

The Super Broly movie was cathartic for those of us who watched the OG Broly movie.
Basically Broly at that point was a mad dog that needed to be put down. Goku was shocked about broly’s blast in middle of movie saying “aw crap! If that have hit the planet, who knows what that would have done!”. Broly in his state was of not thinking straight mainly due to him being in great ape state and being inexperienced with that form made him a wildcard as paragus note “ he can’t control it, he lost all sense of who or what he is”. And with dragon ball with power level they are at where even base goku is capable of destroying universe with Mimal effort that pretty dangerous . And a reason why fighters aren’t busting it is due to ki control that allows them to focus and horn in their attack on a single target, so with broly he could accidentally destroy the planet or even the whole universe from single ki blast or punch which the closest we saw of that was when broly and Gogeta shattered reality that they were transported to different dimensions temporarily in the fight which gogeta basically got lucky there and likely realize he needs to finish it quick before then big attack dose accidentally obliterated the universe, hence after he skips all transformation right to blue and begins to molly whop broly with no mercy.
Also thing to note film clearly shows and novel that broly snapped out of his state and was fearful of gogeta, but given the reason above and that fact of insane power growth it way to risky stop and let him go free.
Well said! People often think of this event from face-value and don't think about what REALLY would have happened had Broly kept on rampaging.

They where equal in power according to the power rank stickers by Bandai, he just couldn’t control his power, he was relying on brute strength instead of skill. It was explained by vegeta while kale was on a rampage in the manga that “Brute strength is useless if it can’t connect”

It goes a bit deeper than just his basic instincts but it could be argued that, since Gogeta is made up of Vegeta's personality not just Goku's, it's possible he's more inclined to kill based off of instincts.
I don't think that Gogeta was trying to kill Broly I think he was trying to power him down sense he was geting too dangerous to the whole universe and himself and getting stronger way too quickly and I think have of Gogeta's mind which was Vegeta saying that they should kill Broly
That's possible! I imagine the Kamehameha had to be strong enough to overpower the already powerful Broly, but it scared him back to his senses and ultimately weakened him that if it hit him, it would've killed him
One thing people mistake is that ......... Gogeta is more of Vegeta and less of goku and vegito is more of Goku and less of vegeta ........ That is the reason vegito plays around gives his opponent chance whereas ...... Gogeta goes for the direct hit

My favorite moment from the movie was Gogeta shaking his head and scowling right before he charged the killshot Kamehameha. That moment was SO subtle but SO good. That's because he threw everything he had to subdue Broly. But unfortunately Broly survived every attack, and only got stronger as he survived and also got angrier and more out of control. Broly also refused to be cleansed even after being hit by Stardust Breaker (that rainbow sphere that cleansed Jamemba), and even a baptism in the sky. He just refused to stop!
That scowl and head-shake will be something I will never rave about enough, because it is at that VERY moment you can feel that Gogeta felt regrettable that he had to kill Broly and put him down like the mad dog that he was. It was not about saving Broly at that point, but about ending a threat to the universe. And it saddened Gogeta to have to kill him. That's why he smiled when he realized that Broly was being sent back at the very last second from the Dragon Balls. He was relieved he didn't have to kill him. It is SO good.

I believe that it’s personality wise, Vegito for example, taunts his opponent (and has not finished a battle) and is very cocky. Gogeta on the other hand, does NOT fuck around, as shown in both of his movie appearances, he simply whoops ass quite quickly.

That's fair, factoring in Frieza could have played a huge role in making the decision to kill Broly.
The reason he got out of rage mode was due to all the internal damage, and potentially even the stardust exploder knocked him out of it. Pretty sure the final Kamehameha was basic royally kind of just waking up to a giant beam blast. And on top of everything a fused full power Saiyan was fighting an opponent so strong that they basically couldn't imagine it. They perhaps just got so deep into the fight that without even realizing it they sent a kill move out

Gogeta Blue: BR had tried to kill Super Saiyan Berserker Broly: BR simply because of the obvious fact that Gogeta Blue: BR would have known that if Super Saiyan Berserker Broly: BR would had been left to have rampaged all throughout the known Universe and kept on increasing his already over-exaggerated Power Level, then there would have been absolutely no one and nothing in all of existence that would have been able to stop Super Saiyan Berserker Broly: BR from causing the complete and utter destruction of the Dragon Ball Super: Broly Timeline as a whole.
Gogeta definitely made this decision in favor of the universe.

The big reason is because of Vegeta, I think Goku gave him full control because he knew that Broly had gotten too strong for Gogeta to hold back. But that is Goku's exact problem, his first ki mercy too Frieza is a perfect example, so he knew him behind the wheel wouldn't cut it, so he had to give control to Vegeta since Vegeta doesn't "share Kakarot's taste for forgiveness" and doesn't hold back anything, which also means straight up murdering his opponents without a second thought, like when almost did when he said he'd send Frieza "back to Hell." I think that's why Gogeta killed Broly, and why it's not out of character for him, because one of the two characters in him would kill without hesitation.
I don't know what others think... But that what the topic of this vid is talking about on this. If others are confused about Gogeta decision on what the *Right chose* was or not. Than most beings aren't thinking faction. There are two thoughts of thinking~~~ *Hard Fact, & Emotional thought* *"Hard Fact"* is the choses a person(s) chose even if there is another way to solve the solution, at the point they are in... They can't change the option of the situation because they are LOCKED! Willing-ly or Not in that situation to make the tuff call of acting up on that Decision. They can't Stop the next step that come after, even if it turn out Good or Bad down the line. *Emotional Thought* is the chose another person(s) chose strongly because they *DENIEGH* the Hard Fact THAT is chosen be chose from another(s), that thinks that is the best Outcome. That is a nice concept in stories that have to tell Good Endings... But doesn't always feel the most Accepted~~~ The point I'm bring to this is .... it's Hard to chose to try an place yourself in the middle of both Answers but just like a coin their are only two sides an it always ends up on one. So don't blame the character(s) if they make a decision the you don't feel like they would do, but what the writers on the the story were trying to tell with the story.
Yeah it's definitely a hard debate over Gogeta's character motivations and what not, and nobody really knows what was going on in his head or even in Broly's head at the time. So it's best not to criticize characters for doing something you the viewer don't like, because they have had entirely different experiences.
I always figured Gogeta was just too INTO the fight. Like in that final Kamehameha, you could see the bloodlust in Gogeta's crazed eyes. He simply got carried away, fighting a strong opponent. It took Broly disappearing for Gogeta to return to his senses.
I mean if he just let broly live he would just continue to grow, then eventually would get even more powerful then gogeta, kills gogeta, then would be a unstoppable threat to the universe since he has completely lost control at this point. To be honest i dont even think beerus could even stop him because if he was going head to head with gogeta they would either be on par or he would hakai him.

I think during fusion there are moments where each character involved takes control mentally and emotionally, Vegeta tried to finish Broly and Goku spared Frieza, Cheelai and Lemo at the end

If you noticed Goku used passive tactics like telekinetic abilities to try and freeze him. As for the movie, I thought it was good, but not perfect. Felt Broly was waay too strong. With proper training he would probably be stronger than Berus and UI Goku. Also frieza shoulda died like with in 10 minutes of their fight lol. No way he woulda lasted with-in all those failed fusion time windows

This whole scene was a study in the proper use of subverting expectation(s).
Goku extended an olive branch to Broly when he used the soul bind, which was out of character for Goku. However, he knew based on the fight thus far that Broly's unique ability to adapt to a superior power level was potentially dangerous to Broly, to them and potentially the universe. When he was unable to overcome the rage, though, Goku knew that they would have to up their game significantly, which is why he ran with Vegeta and attempted to learn the fusion dance.
When they fused, Vegeta's tendency to toy with a weaker opponent and Goku's tendency to want a stronger opponent was a liability. When they were fighting, Broly adapted to their saiyan power boost and this is the moment when Gogeta not only went Blue (full power) but began using all of his strongest punches, kicks and energy attacks in a relentless onslaught of absolute power that Broly was having difficulty adapting to fast enough, but they knew that it was only a matter of time if they didn't end it immediately so they chose to kill Broly and end that threat.
It can be justified that broly would have been a big threat if not stopped but the problem is it was a little bit weird how gogeta was going straight for the kill, he could've at least knocked him out or something and try to calm him down. What about the attack god goku did, he could've tried it with gogeta to stop broly. My point is it didnt even seem like he wanted to calm broly or had pity for him he was going straight for the kill. Although gogeta is my fav character in the whole series i have to admit that was kinda brutal

I actually thought he was trying to subdue him. Once the soul punisher didn't destroy him I think he was just trying to put him down. Yeah maybe it was him going for the kill still because he saw broly was extremely powerful but uncontrollable and would probably result in the earth destruction if he didn't deal with it. Gt not withstanding, Gogeta seems to be more about eliminating evil than crushing his enemies like vegito.
I think what gogeta did was justified. I mean what if Broly got a new form and manage to surpass Gogeta? Would Ultra Instinct be able to stop him? He had a reason.

To me how I understand it its more vegeta's side wanting him dead for several reasons.
1 it's well within vegetas character to kill his opponent
2 vegeta was trying to do that with broly in wrathful form.
3 goku stated he sensed Broly wasn't evil and calm down.
You could say inother gogeta fights and even vegeto fights goku was more in control since why he spared janemba and and played around with zamasu, but and omega.
It is simple fact of we don't really know how the personality of a fusion is chosen when you can argue goku and vegeta have opposite personality traits when fighting. Even then vegeta does toy with foes usually to his detriment.
So I'd say playful and merciful side is gokus personality being in control

I didn’t need to explain Vegeta’s view to kill Broly. Everybody already knew he wanted to kill him. I had to explain the Goku side, that’s why I focused on him.
And it doesn’t just switch on and off on who controls Gogeta’s mind, they both have constant, mixed control. He is the combination of BOTH their thoughts, he doesn’t pick and choose
Gogeta has goku funny personality and has vegeta murder personality and has goku mui attacking personality and has goku mui brave murdering personality which means goku mui taken over gogeta body by taking broly seriously because broly power has no limit to how far he goes we all saw how strong he is
I do like how Gogeta's aura in this film has that sorta purple-ish hue to it like Ultra Instinct's aura.
Summary: Gogeta was trying to kill Broly because Broly was a serious threat to earth since Frieza showed up and he could have adapted to a level Gogeta would waste time to try to beat him. So yeah that's why Gogeta was aiming to kill Broly

I’d like to debunk your statement. The reason why Gogeta was aimed to kill Broly was because of his amount of savagery. Goku may have seen the hood in Broly but Vegeta did notice the vast strength and improvement of Broly during their bout.
With such a force having no regard, with Gogeta only working on a 30min time scale, there would’ve been no other choice but to go out and get the job done.
Vegito is usually cocky in his demeanor. Gogeta is more no nonsense.

I’m sorry but you have made an error, broly wasn’t even close to ssb gogeta, it just looks that way because of how the choreographed the fight, he was however 5 times stronger than ssb goku (ikari is 10 times multiplier and there’s no evidence that he stacked super Saiyan on top) so with super Saiyan, he was stupid strong but he matched ssj gogeta so when he went blue, it was a one sided ass whooping

This is a good theory except one thing, why didn't gogeta go blue from the get go and overwhelm broly while he still in ssj? He didn't defused in the movie while he was lobbing star dust breakers, strobe lights, kamekame's even calling on the heavens to blast broly, so obviously defusing wasn't an issue. And yet people will still try and say"GoGeTa WaS gOiNg AlL oUt FrOm ThE sTaRt"

Also broly wasn't forced to fight he willingly fought without hesitation, even frieza said broly was more than eager to fight, paragus even told broly to comeback when he thought broly was being overwhelmed, so broly didn't have anymore reason to fight

Also in the light novels( fan translation) it stated that broly started to hold back against gokyu after his talk, he even held back against frieza when he was beating for an hr straight and left when he couldn't fight back. Also notice how broly was destroying anything despite being full powered even his mouth didn't destroy the planet when it hit the ground during his fight with gogeta.

Actually, at the end where gogeta was holding his wrist, and pretty much told him if he commits another evil act, they would end him? And sure enough at the end you see Frieza invading another planet. But where was Goku/Gogeta?

*I hate Toriyama cuz he made Vegeta, who is honestly a better character, husband, and fighter than Goku, a side character that gets a balls kicked so Goku can see the opponent’s power*
I've always preferred Goku to Vegeta, but I agree it kinda sucked that Vegeta got shafted in the first half of this fight. Especially considering HE was the primary target for Paragus and Broly this time around.
