You don't need ISTA to clear fault codes. Any cheap code reader will do that without a laptop and the hours of faffing to get ISTA installed. A cheap reader gives you codes. About £100 gets you one that tells you what most of the codes mean. About £200-£300 and you might get direct updates, a self-powered device (most useful) and better support. ISTA D is for Diagnosis and ISTA P is for Programming. If your car has 20 or 30 modules and is otherwise fine, ISTA will seem easy. If you have a really sick car with multiple bus and module failures you will struggle. So, for example, an AutoPhix 7910 will tell your car it has a new battery. But you need ISTS P (or something expensive from Autel range etc) to tell your car it has a different size or type of battery. As @Vilius Vasiliauskas said 9 months ago: ICOM is only a completely different approach. With a Dcan alone you can do 99% of programming with WinKFP on E series (and) Mini R series. Head unit is the only module using MOST connection and will require ICOM for this to be used with ISTA/p or ISTA+. Hope this helps someone.

I have the same setup though do not get reading of voltage on my E91 and was told this is only possible using a ICOM. Do you know why? Thanks, Andre
I don't know why, but my obd2 cable K+dcan, it doesn't show my battery voltage, and because of this it is a problem when you want to delete the errors, the deletion operation is blocked. I read that an older version of ista+ would solve this problem. My version of Ista+ is 4.32.15

Hi George, I’m not familiar with this program but I think you may need to scan the car again after deleting codes. Maybe you did this but in the video it looked like you deleted codes and when it had 0 codes you took it as no faults, I think you’ve to rescan it again to see what codes come back. I usually drive it for a bit before scanning again.

George can you run ISTA D to do all checks on the car with the engine running or do you need to just leave the ignition on, as i need to replace my battery or charge it up as i get an amber warning before the car shuts the ignition off. I an issue with the injectors from all accounts 1 or all the injectors are open i spoke to a BMW mechanic through my work. Described the issues, and he said one or all of the injectors can be open and the cause of the dumping of fuel into the cylinders. I saw a person running his engine when checking the flow rates of fuel going through the injectors where he was running the engine on youtube but wanted to ask. Thanks in advance,

Hey mate, what did you do to get battery voltage shown on top right corner? Mine it does not reading it, and i believe that is linked to why I cannot remove the stored fault codes. When asking to turn off ignition and remove key fob, nothing happens. Even though, after I press cancel, the errors are deleted. Any idea ? Appreciate it Cheers
MRmed1a certain versions of ista, after 4.10 no longer read voltage through KDcan cable, therefore it will not read out when you remove the key fob and reintroduce it
@@CostelTarata well that's balls. Hmm so why update ? Got airbag and seat belt code on first days of owning the car I reckon moved the seat too far back and loosened a connection under the seat.
