- In this video I want to show you how to diagnose a BMW using the BMW original equipment that is ISTA+ , and how important is to use the OEM equipment compared with the aftermarket ones !

Now I have an E83 x3, 2008, and it is not so "flexible".

The diagnostic procedure is very well described, which will certainly help many people to use ISTA correctly. It is not advisable to mechanically process the pins, this only solves the problem temporarily, it would be better to replace the pins or to process them with a special silver cleaning solution. The contacts are silver-coated, removing them with a file or similar will damage the contacts and they will quickly corrode again.

Great presentation! I like the process, it's what I find valuable in most of your videos. This was an easy job that does not show the full power of ISTA. On my previous car E60 I solved a PDC fault (in the end was due to a wire fault, not a pin) using a simple OBD device and an online database to see pins as I suspected the PDC module. My point is that for some tasks less is needed and often more than enough. Logic, working carefully and clean are the most important tools.

Oh and ISTA works best with an Icom, not a k+d can usb cable.
Is it the only option to buy the ICOM device from a BMW dealer? Now don't talk about some copy that doesn't always works.
@@leiflillandt1488 you can also use a passthrough J-box (J2534 protocol) like one from a reputable brand , Autel, Bosch etc...ISTA+ has native support for J2534 no hassles and it works just like the ICOM, but it's not cheap, it will cost you anywhere from 800€ to 1000€, and the advantage is that it can be used with any brand not just BMW.

I think you haven't worked enough many hours/days/weeks/years with it...😆
I guess one quite big problem is to learn what the abbreviations stand for. After that you have to learn what the different modules do and what triggers them, and why some of the modules interconnect.
What can the problem be if you don't have connection to a module, etc, etc,
Another thing is to understand the limits of a diagnostic tool.
There are reasons why you first need 3-4 years of education and on top of that 10+ years of experience, and to attend 1-2 weeks of education each year, and still you may not be able to solve an electrical problem in reasonable time.
But with quite little "knowledge" you can still solve some issues, especially with help of videos like this.

Nice Video. Just a small observation...never use continuity to test for the integrity of the wire (your pin inside the connector was visible and easy to spot it, but inside a harness you'll have problems with this kind of testing). Always use resistance check and voltage drop testing! 👍

Take the connector apart, pull the affected male and female pins. For male pin, use readily available scotch Brite, for the female pin, use any old pin that fits and create some knurls on, works like a charm every time

Hello, yes you can, they implemented old GT1 in IstaD, you can also diagnose e30 after 1990 😉
Hey cool video ! Question about the tree …what Will say “zgm” ? All the modules are connected with the zgm.But for example , is the Frm module connected to the dde?

Thank you for this useful video, but I have small question and need your help, I did coding to replace led rear signal lights by Bimmercode but after that the rear position left light stop working and there is no error code on the head unit. In your opinion can I find something on ISTA+ solve this issue?

Do you know whether or not which version of ISTA is still accessible to us the clone users of iCOM with ISTA+? I understand that BMW are trying to keep a very tight close loop on licences from version 4 onwards...

Hi M.Ovidiu just a quick question with ISTA do you know which module the power windows falls under as I have an issue with my passenger window on my BMW F36 GC all the other windows close with one touch power , I have tried the sync method and that doesn't work. I scan the car for errors I get a 030095 popping up, any idea what this could be, also if I use ISTA will it remove my performance mapping I have on my car? Any information will be appreciated.

Does the ICOM need to be connected to a wireless router, or can it create its own network for the pc to connect to?

In the UK 99 mechanics out of 100 would never call anything on the car 'ugly and I don't like it' and then go ahead and rectify it, but instead they would like for ways to get more money out of their customer! If they come across a fitting with 3 screws, they'll try to get away with doing just the 2! This guy needs to be cloned and brought to the UK as a subject matter expert! I'm no mechanic or even DIY expert but do like watching you work and rectify problems!

You can delete errors after you remedy the problem!!! you can not delete errors if they are present!
Salut Ovidiu. Am un bmw f36 2015 la care farurile nu se mai misca. Se ridica cand le pornesc si coboara la 3 metri in fata. Mi-ar placea daca mi-ai da un sfat care ar fi problema. Foarte interesanta munca ta. Imi place ceea ce faci. Multumesc.

Salut. Cum ai connectat ICom-ul prin wifi ? Exista vreun modul special de wifi dau icom.ul are wifi integrat ? Apreciez munca pe care o faci si incerc sa învăț de la tine cat de cat, fiind foarte greu de lucrat cu astfel de mașini.

@@MOvidiu I'm a biker, new in the car world 😅 some donor salvage parts need to be paired to the vehicle you are putting then in, like an ABS module for example. This is my real question, if it is possible to do so with ista+ or ista D or inpa. Sorry for not explaining myself properly. And thanks for the reply
Welcome in the club! at the beginning will be panful but you will get used to it :)) . if you need to replace modules yes they will need to be coded on the car ! most of the jobs can be done with istaP, and depending on what model of BMW you work on = Esys, winKFP , NCSexpert....but for the first time I advice you to find someone locally to do that for you!
