Another good video! I’m still looking to purchase a tool but the IM608 won’t be in my budget range as I’m not a shop but I do callouts to run diagnostics and tweaks and currently only have VCDS. I’m hoping to do retrofits and tweaks on other cars the likes of BMW and Mercedes should I consider that OTOFIX or go ahead as planned and get the MK908P? Thanks for any helpful insight BMW Doctor! Jack
I’m so damn confused 🤷♂️ which is the best coding and programming scan tool with key programming ?? Otofix m1 or Autel 908p !! I don’t want buy something I don’t need pls help
I have a question for you so please bear with me as I describe my problem, which will determine which diagnostic computer I should buy as I need one for general maintenance, regardless. But right now I have a pressing issue: I lowered my wife’s ‘16 F82 M4 and I installed the KW Height Adjustable System, which is just a coil over add on system to retain the factory EDC dampers and push button control. The problem I’m having is the ECM senses a problem with the height sensors on the front dampers after I lowered the front about an inch and a half +/- and this causes the car to lock me out of the sport + (M2) feature and locks the suspension in the efficient setting. I sent the car to the dealer but they weren’t very savvy and the service advisor had an aftermarket coil over/replacement strut system where an EDC delete setup is appropriate, and that’s all he knew so he recommended it to me, not understanding it would defeat the purpose of the system I chose for my wife’s car to keep the functionality close to stock. Many people have had this problem online with various fixes that sometimes do and don’t work. I had a couple extra low mileage used height sensors and tried all 4, yet still had the same problem, plus the car was fine before I installed to coil overs. So I feel pretty secure in assuming the sensors are functioning properly. That only leaves the associated wires/connectors - maybe they got pinched, seems dubious but it’s possible. My guess is I can raise this car back up to stock height and eliminate the height sensor faults, but that’s not an option. Can I trick the fault code with Ista or the Otto tool by coding it differently? What would you recommend I do next, because I don’t want to take a stab in the dark by buying new sensors and wires, because I doubt that will fix my problem, though I’ve seen one or two people online have luck doing that. I’ve also seen people spend the money, eliminate the problem, only for it to return in hours or days. Any help you’re willing to give would be appreciated. Cheers from America.
you say its "not worth the headache" of dealing with the "inconvenience" of a laptop. But that linked scan tool is $3000 GBP. $3000! I can download ISTA for FREE. And I get that if your a pro, you're doing this so often its worth it. BUT, if you're really a pro, what are you doing on youtube watching videos like these??
For me personally I would rather use ISPA P / D as that is what the BMW technicians use and gives in depth repair manuals and servicing manuals that go with it. All the other tools are 3rd party that is a best effort service. Each to his own when it comes to what you would like to use but for me ... ISTA all the way
For the electrical diagnostic it’s the easiest way, and the Chinese tools like Launch, Xtool or Autel will not do even have a half of features, especially actuation tests, I’ve used each of them. They good for reading the codes and for go out diagnostic
ISTA wins for me because of the workshop manuals. So annoying that its not publicly available especially for the older cars like my e87. Haynes manual and youtube doesnt solve everything.
even things like torque values - this should be freely available. when i buy a washing machine i get a manual with all this stuff. Why should it be any different for a car. i know if i do certain things it will void the warranty.

I had tried at least 6 different scan tools to try and diagnose an ABS light on my 1998 BMW Z3. None have been able to communicate with the module. The module has no power so that not being the problem,I thought replacing the module would solve the problem. Alright, so if this software IS enemy number one of BMW right know, how they can bring programming updates to single units of the cars, by the other side you said that you can clone ECUs and do whatever thing so, it's suitable for being a single tool to do ecu remappings, i am very interested into remappings but i get Lost with the hardware so many people trying to sell their products and honestly very very few looks trusty for that

Other then the price to buy a laptop (which I can use for anything) and an ENET cable, ISTA cost me some time to find a download. I'm getting WIS/ASRA/XENTRY for my MB vehicle. That's the price of doing things myself. There is no way I'm going to spend hundreds or much more on a scan tool. As far as I know, scan tools don't support programming or coding, so I need ISTA anyway. That's the reality for most people who work on their own cars.

Dean, which model should I get the D1 and D1 Lite as far as our E92 M3 & E60 M5 applications? I can only find the D1 Lite in US. Do you have a link for the D1 Lite so I can support you? D1 Lite support all system diagnostics and 28+ service functions and some other functions for most of vehicles. D1 support all system diagnostics and 28+ service functions + bi-directional control function for most of vehicles.I’m assuming D1 Lite is not Bi-directional; do I need it to be? I have a E92 M3, E60 M5, & F10 535D Thanks

Last resort is to flash the codes out of my ECU. Please consider making a video like that. I would greatly appreciate it!!

The truth is yes you can you can do it all with the otofix if you don't believe me go and see for yourself I have used it many many times on my M5 without the need of Ista for a very very long time.
Hello. I own F25 35i from over one year now. I'm located in Bulgaria and the car comes from USA and I found that the authorised BMW garages here refuse to do some things for me like activating the navigation to work with Europe map, closing my windows from my remote control ( in America it's not allowed this extra) and I was wondering if having this device I could do that without breaking something trying it? I didn't use anything at all in my live messing with my car by my self and I was wondering if it's worth trying something like that, knowing I'm beginner in this? 🙂 Thanks in advance and sorry for the long message.
I have a 2009 525d 3ltr m57, I'm having a fuelling issue, it's only using the fuel out the side of the tank the intank pump is, at the same time it is filling the other side of the tank, I'm guessing the return isn't making it back to the other side, any ideas please
Is Creator 310+ still viable starter scanner tool for BMWs? They recently added throttle control module to their scanners with 12.0v update. I drive with E90 myself.
The IM608 definitely can as for OTOFIX you can but you will need to buy another adapter onto of the IM61 which is around £30 to be able to do it and then the OTOFIX can do it. Overall the otofix is probably the best bang for the buck just you compromise on screen size.
I thought Carly was the best scan tool !!!!!!! LOL !!!!!!!!! Just kidding mate. I threw my carly away after it fried 2 FRM modules and a seat control module. Thanks for this video, I will certainly put the Otofix on my "must have" list.
It does indeed ! Exact fault codes everytime even ones that won’t show. It’s one of the best tools I use now fully and you will see me use it a lot more truly because it’s ease of use.

I had tried at least 6 different scan tools to try and diagnose an ABS light on my 1998 BMW Z3. None have been able to communicate with the module. The module has no power so that not being the problem,I thought replacing the module would solve the problem. I replaced it with one with the EXACT same P/N to prevent recoding and still can not communicate with any scanner. Would the Otofix have any problem communicating with my E36 built in 11/97?
I believe you have to hook up to the dlc connector under the hood in that model.
I bet ISTA could scan it. Other scan tools require power from the OBD2. ISTA does not.
Well explained, for me I will stick with Ista, I never need to do any key coding
where do you get ista, and what is the best version for just diagnostics?
Can this scanner energise the egr on the F31 so it can be refit after cleaning
500$+ for scan tool… when bimmer has a download for less than 20$
hello MR. BMW Docter, thank you for your Wisdom !!
looking at your movie's you goth my trust and i have a question.
i have a BMW K1600GT out 2010 ( my first BMW ) and i use MOTOSCAN it's a basic diagnose tool, does not do every thing.
i want to upgrade my diagnose tool to do my own maintenance, and like to skip the dealer in total.
am I better off whit a GS 911 or get something els ?
Dealer tool is best choice if you want to be able to do pretty much everything.
Can it do service history onto i drive
issue with 2014 BMW 535d F10 N57 Diesel Countdown issue upstream Nox sensor replaced but no start last attempt. any ideas Gents
thanks for your efforts and detailing. based on their website they don't cover older models as I'm looking for e31. staying with inpa or ista or what is better and easier? appreciate. cheers
would you not be better with a generic scan tool since thats based on older less complicated technology?
For older bmws you need ADS interface and INPA/DIS
What's the song in the beginning
Can you recomand a tool for speaking with the ABS block ? The block has been changed i think i got to pair it with the car to initiate the purge . BMW E53 2001 3.0i .
I purchased an Autel MaxiCheck MK808 for my F01. It was waaaay worth the money. I looked up that scan tool and the programming looks exactly like Autel's, but it cost more than the Autel I purchased. The only feature it has I didnt want was the bluetooth function.
Can you do stuff like in ISTA to do a valvetronic relearn where it cycles the eccentric shaft to max and min lift over 200 times? Need to do mine
I have Autel MaxiSys and its been brilliant you just buy the modules you need and boom it has practically every dealer level function available.
@@GodKing804 there are a lot of relearn functions but I’m not sure about that one.
Alright, so if this software IS enemy number one of BMW right know, how they can bring programming updates to single units of the cars, by the other side you said that you can clone ECUs and do whatever thing so, it's suitable for being a single tool to do ecu remappings, i am very interested into remappings but i get Lost with the hardware so many people trying to sell their products and honestly very very few looks trusty for that
Hi Dean.
When are you going to upload a video using IM608 to reset FRM module on the bench?
Which is the best scan tool ?
What if I got ISTA for free?
HELP: Question, disconnected customer's 2021 X3 battery to replace rear passenger handle. Now "Driver Assistance Support Reduced" message and codes are displayed. How canI fix instead of brining it to the Stealership?
I have an E53 3.0 D 2005 with Front and Rear Axel Air Shocks. I need to adjust the height and ISTA with Cable will work for £25-50
Can I get a Scan tool that will set suspension height for less than £50 ? If not... ISTA and cable... !!
PS... Great channel... My First Go To for all things BMW...
What would be the best software/tool to use on an f-series 340i to recode injectors and code m performance brakes if I install the upgraded brake kit?
How about topdon tool…
Which scan tool do you recommend?
Other then the price to buy a laptop (which I can use for anything) and an ENET cable, ISTA cost me some time to find a download. I'm getting WIS/ASRA/XENTRY for my MB vehicle. That's the price of doing things myself. There is no way I'm going to spend hundreds or much more on a scan tool. As far as I know, scan tools don't support programming or coding, so I need ISTA anyway. That's the reality for most people who work on their own cars.
Can this program my ABS for my BMW Motorcycle?
I believe you mentioned it will be able to code in 4 months any way you can do a video when that is ready
Hi!! Asm videos!! I have an autel mx808 scanner, it has the battery register function, but in the option to change the new capacity battery, it not give me the different ah and/or agm option to chose, current battery its a 80ah lead acid flooded, and i bought a new oem bmw 90ah agm battery, i don't know if that the encoding only can make with an insta p?
Hello Dean, I have an R56 mini and need to code a new JBE Module, what tool would you recommend?
What about future subscription
Cost? Your link says it's unavailable
Will this tool work well on a 2002 E46?
What tool do you recommend to diagnose a 2006 R52 base convertible . I think I have a Speed Sensor issue but can’t identify which wheel. My symptoms are ABS, Tire pressure, check engine (P1613) lights and wacky temperature gauge.
Hello sir do you know if there is a way to write the service history in the car ? so not the reset funktion ? thanks in advance
Check out the video in my channel, there I explain it
Is it ok to use Inpa?..😊
So what software can i use as im wanting to do a service on the DCT gearbox?
Great work! Sorry if you have already answered this but which otofix do you use? I'm looking to invest
In my links there is only one OTOFIX
Anyone knows guys a decent guide on what metrics to read if I wanna make sure a car's odometer is not rolled back?
Hey Dean, thanks! Just bought one of these. Do you know if you can buy the IM1 separately? I don't see it linked or for sale separate from the D1. THANKS!
Can this scan tool be used on electric vehicles like BMW i3, ix3, i4 and IX? The dealership use the EOS and ISTA to active the car after replace the high voltage battery.
Can you please make a video guide on how to specifically delete the post cat o2 sensors(down stream, bank 1-2, sensor 2, rear sensor) for a catless car?
I'd done everything from foulers to simulators and none of it works. Even though new o2 sensors and did everything again to see if it would work and it didn't. Last resort is to flash the codes out of my ECU.
Please consider making a video like that. I would greatly appreciate it!!
Not last resort. The first and best way to do this is to disable the error codes in the ECU. This is the method of choice.
Get a tune
What tool would you recommend to code/program a BMW f20? Got a pre LCI like your 135 but with a 1.6T n13 and want to learn how retrofit heated seats. They fitted but need sorting out on the modules... Already got e sys but haven't tried anything
E sys I reccomend my friend 🙏 just VO code it and done code all relevant modules and it’s sorted FEM , IHKA and done
@@BMWDoctor would you know how to get the DRL working after replacing a damaged light? 😭
@@BMWDoctor thanks for the info 💯👊🏽 god bless you man hope you had a good holiday
Is it ok to use Inpa?
Ive had the im608pro when it first came out right before the summer which is the better version of im608 because the new xp400 anyway yeah i downloaded ista + yada yada yada went crazy getting it to work becase its always some stupid fvkery to get bmw software working....and honestly my SCanner does the same shit .....other than custom retrofitting but than again u could use ESys instead of ista ....
I have the IM608PRO, best scanner I've used. Ultra is next.
So if you know every fault now. OK BMW X5 2015 no start. Customer drove vehicle day before. Next day key in dash and start button pressed. Dash lights disappeared and crank just couple revolutions. CAS no communication. Main relay message. So whats the fault.?
You forgot the codes.
I'm the owner of the e61 m5 and e64 m6.
So you can do all the bleeding procedures and clutch adaption and so on with the fabulous otofix? So I can really just put ista in the trash can and spend money on otofix? Is it the smart thing to do?
The way you pronounce Oscilloscope in this video is hilarious LMAO good video nice click bait
I have a 2009 525d 3ltr m57, I'm having a fuelling issue, it's only using the fuel out the side of the tank the intank pump is, at the same time it is filling the other side of the tank, I'm guessing the return isn't making it back to the other side, any ideas please
agree with you,m planning to get also an im608
Is Creator 310+ still viable starter scanner tool for BMWs? They recently added throttle control module to their scanners with 12.0v update. I drive with E90 myself.
Hey Dean great info!! Just to reassure myself, can the Otofix and IM608 update(and fix) DME and FRM modules??
The IM608 definitely can as for OTOFIX you can but you will need to buy another adapter onto of the IM61 which is around £30 to be able to do it and then the OTOFIX can do it. Overall the otofix is probably the best bang for the buck just you compromise on screen size.
I thought Carly was the best scan tool !!!!!!! LOL !!!!!!!!! Just kidding mate. I threw my carly away after it fried 2 FRM modules and a seat control module. Thanks for this video, I will certainly put the Otofix on my "must have" list.
Carly is garbage. Not to mention the surprise annual bills. Subscripton format is a FAIL.
Do you rate Protool .? Cheers.
Not used it so I cant comment and it would be wrong of me to give a opinion on something I have never used.
No any scan tool can program modules
Does these scan tools give as exact codes as ista does?
It does indeed ! Exact fault codes everytime even ones that won’t show. It’s one of the best tools I use now fully and you will see me use it a lot more truly because it’s ease of use.
@@BMWDoctor so it can code bmw right ?
Because wiring diagrams
its sold out
Hello Doctor, first of all thank you for all the knowledge you are sharing with us, i have been struggling for few months trying to find a solution for my little problem. i had ista 4.12 on windows 7 and now i have ista 4.32 on windows 10, both with a K+dcan. i tried many installations on both software but every time i can't have (Delete adaptations the menu Service functions) it's not there..., both ista can communicate with the car ( e46 330d )... can read and delete errors.. read live values..., i can't understand why some submenu are missing.., i do vehicule identification and test at the start..., do i have to put a battery charger on the batterey while i'm using ista to have Delete adaptaions menu ? or the problem is somewhere else ? if there is someone who can help me to resolve this, it's you. i thank you in advance and sorry for my english ( i'm in France). Thx Doc :)
I don't know for sure but some people have mentioned that these options aren't available until fluids warm up to operating Temps. Did you get your issues figured out?
