2. Rocker Panel Replacement | 1961 Chevy Apache Restoration

  • So I decided to make the passenger side rocker panels my second video. I have a passenger door, but It seems to make more sense to replace this first.
    The rocker panels themselves are fairly simple in hindsight, but a little intimidating at first, as I had no idea how they were attached. The toughest part was the collateral damage I found when I removed the panels, specifically the kick panel and door pillar support.
    I'm thinking I'll be replacing the passenger door in the next video.
    Oh, if you guys would like to support me I invite you to check out my Patreon fund here: www.patreon.com/user?u=4716013
    This is essentially my truck fund, so this helps me order parts to keep the videos coming.
    Thanks for watching.

    Thanks for sharing! Now I know what’s ahead for my ‘62 stepside since it has a rust problem on the rocker panels as well.

    Good work, Zack, there is always a simple way to do things without bodging them. Good to see you fabricating those little curves etc as you do..

    Mad skills there Zach. There's no reason to buy things that you can patch or fabricate. Looking forward to more on the Apache.

    ZH you need to get yourself some spot weld cutters. Cheap like $5 at harbor freight and the cutting bit is double sided, so you can unscrew it and have another brand new side.

    I really enjoy your work, do you think painting the backside of the new outer rocker and outside the inner panel would be beneficial?
    Or is it overkill?

  • @rickallen6378
    @rickallen6378 6 лет назад +1

    I have been through a similar project myself, which i will never do again. But I was wondering if maybe you had thought about on those areas that are prone to rust, to treat them with something like POR 15? If you put that on a surface it will never rust again. Since you are taking that all apart and getting into those hard to reach areas, it may be a of value.

      Yeah, I'm hitting the inside of the panels with something similar... I'm sure once I move into a place with a shop I'll take everything down a bit and do a more professional job. It's just hard in a humid/rainy climate with no indoor shop.
