    I was having same issue on a 5 month old ge washer. Tech thought it was the rods. Problem not fixed. He brought me a new washer and he was going to take the original back to his store to check it out. When we unloaded the new one I checked the tub on the new one versus the older one. Turns out that the tub bolt or nut came loose. The tub would partially lift away from the agitator. Anyway I got to keep the new machine. Apparently the tub bolt or nut was not torqued properly at factory. Just a lucky find. Hope this helps someone.

    Great public service educational videos. How can you tell if the suspension rods are shot? I have an older GE, and the spring suspension rods are in plastic cover. The cover seemed to have some white lube residue inside, but mostly dry. The rods are straight and the springs look undamaged and symmetrical. I put some grease in along the shaft inside the cover and it stopped the rocking unbalanced whirling dervish. But it still sounds like a jet engine taking off on the spin cycle.

    • @DuctTapeMechanic
      @DuctTapeMechanic  Год назад

      It is a bit dicey to visually tell rods are bad (it's usually symptom based). If your washer sounds like a jet the tub bearings are shot (soon enough it will probably seize up and stop spinning all together).

    • @rickc564
      @rickc564 9 месяцев назад

      Went through same thing with ours. Yes it's the tub bearing but wait there's more! You can't just buy the bearing for these. They are part of the transmission box now. So this will set you back about 180 for a new one, providing you do the install yourself like I did. Washers today are made so cheap that half the repairmen won't touch them anymore. New tranny in and now another 80 bucks for suspension rods? I shit canned ours and went back to a Kenmore direct drive that was made in the 90's

    • @caffieneoracle5147
      @caffieneoracle5147 9 месяцев назад

      Open the lid, and press down on the top of the agitator. If you can push it down to the floor without too much effort, the suspension springs are shot.

    Hey man I have the same washer maybe a year older or newer. The machine only wobbles like hits the walls in the first mode sensing. When it’s spinning to drain its fine. I’ve changed out the 4 suspension rods and still having the issue. But the issue is only in sensing mode.

    • @DuctTapeMechanic
      @DuctTapeMechanic  2 года назад +3

      That is a bit strange. Did you buy OEM replacement rods? I have heard of the Amazon ones giving people trouble. Also make sure you evenly distribute the clothes in the tub (try a light load thst is evenly distributed). It could be the tub itself is stripped (this can happen if people constantly overload the washer) if this is the case the wobblying will get worse overtime. Finally I would power it down by pulling the plug for 10 minutes or so to reset everything before the next load.

    • @nadeemyousaf186
      @nadeemyousaf186 2 года назад +1

      @@DuctTapeMechanic Thanks for the quick reply. I ordered OEM parts that came in GE bags from parts select. What really odd is that the wobbling happens only in sensing mode and only if I select a setting on the grey side like "jeans, towles, bulky items" If it was the tub that is stripped where whould I check to confirm?

    • @DuctTapeMechanic
      @DuctTapeMechanic  2 года назад +1

      @@nadeemyousaf186 there is a way to check by putting one hand on the upper lip portion of the inside of the tub and pulling up the tub and seeing if it moves. But at this stage might just be worth it to just keeping using the washer until it fails completely (because replacing the tub isn't worth it).

    i have this washer- from Costco. i wanted one that wasn’t “smart” because paying for a smart washing machine is dumb. This washer was awesome at first, then the barrel started banging against the side of the washer when i try to wash blankets or small washable rugs and pillow covers-it should be able to handle these. I see it could be suspension rods or maybe an agitator screw. I think it may still be under warranty but i have a good appliance repair person I like.

    How do you know if it’s the bearings that are bad? Washer was overloaded and started doing this. Just looked at the rods and they all seem to be in place, I thought maybe one was knocked off. So does the white or green part go bad on these?

    • @DuctTapeMechanic
      @DuctTapeMechanic  Год назад

      Typically if you manually turn the tub with your hands and it sounds like a freight train the bearings are bad.

    They do have some common issues but the thing is… of allll the washers out there.. these are some of the absolute easiest to work on. To change the drive belt is 3 screws, for example. The hardest thing on this entire washer is getting the agitator and auger out but even that once you’ve done it once or twice- it gets easier to line up.

      Not good. Try to make sure it is sitting on level ground if not try leveling the feet. A new washer should not be doing this. Typically suspension rods go bad after 5-7 years. You might have another issue

    Before or after you put in the replacement rods, be sure the washing machine is level. Some floors that the machine stands on are not level so be mindful of that. Make sure there is no wobble from corner to corner, also.

    GTM - Great video thanks, I can handle suspension rod replacements. I tested yesterday my GE top loader looks like a similar machine on the video. I ran through the spin cycle (no clothes) and had no issue with vibration. Question - the violent vibration I have during the high spins cycles - even with few clothes inside of the tub. I rearranged loads many times with no help. DTM - In your opinion, should I proceed with changing suspension rods, and go from there? The machine is 9-10 years old. Yes pretty much all the GE washers for the past 10 years are relatively the same. I would personally proceed with changing the suspension rods as that is what sounds like the issue. Best of luck in your repair! Thanks for watching!

    Just put duct tape on it. The plastic above the spring if it has slid up slide it back down to the spring now put duct or any tape will make it quit sliding back up. Boom fixed. The plastic wears out not the spring unless it is rusty and broke for some odd reason.
