      @@All-Miles-Matter Disagree. I think it really is THAT bad. I've always done as much maintenance on my trucks as possible including twice per year oil changes. This set up doesn't allow one to fully inspect, remove, install, and then TEST a new filter installation. I've seen gaskets on new filters fail when a vehicle is first started after filter replacement. I hate when engineers don't consider ease of access and maintenance; especially on a part which needs replacement with some frequency.

    Good Video. I had a 2012 Frontier with 4.0L V6 and it was a pain to change the oil filter. It is surprising that Nissan did not change the oil filter location with this new 3.8L engine. They kept the same oil filter spot as they had with that old 4.0L engine that was in production 2005-2020. That access panel is worthless. Not all the oil drips down the metal deflector in the front , some will drip from the top and to back side. You need brake cleaner for that part. You always have to remove and install the filter from passenger side as he did. Not sure filling the oil filter and dripping some out while installing the filter is necessary.

    • @toms6841

      Agree. Poor design location. My first thought when he filled the oil filter with oil is that he was going to lose some screwing filter on in a horizontal position.

    If I ever meet the engineer who designed this oil filter location, they might get socked in the nose. It is absurdly and unnecessarily difficult to reach this filter on the ground and hard not to make a mess. At least on my 2017 Pro4x you could easily remove the entire skid plate, giving you clear access.

Cool trick with the water bottle though.

    Seems like all 3 models are a little different.i have the base S model.just take the inspection plate off then take the 4 screws in front under the bumper and the 2 in the back on the skidplate.this loosens up the plate giving u enuff room to get to the filter.its a little awkward but u can do it without lifting it up.use a long ratchet handle for more turning clearance

    I would like to see the same for a 2024 Pro4x- they moved the filter access hole further down under the filter which puts you at a terrible angle to get the filter off when the factory put it on with brute force. The drainage tray under the filter sticks out just enough where you can’t get a full grip on it at at right angle. This is very frustrating!

  • @toms6841
    @toms6841 5 месяцев назад

    Ok, here's a problem with your procedure. If you replace cover and skid plate right away before filling with oil and running the engine, how are you to determine that the gasket on your oil filter is good to go? I've seen gaskets fail on an oil filter change. After you change your filter and add oil, then you start engine and immediately check for no oil filter leaks. To me, who is considering purchasing a Nissan Frontier, this has me wondering about my options. I do much of my own maintenance and I don't have a lift at my disposal. I work on the grass or gravel on my back with a set of ramps to change my oil filters on all of my current and previous vehicles. This set up is ridiculous. I like/need to inspect and clean the surface of the oil filter base. Having to peekaboo to remove, install, and then inspect is a real hassle. They must have been thinking everyone has small/narrow hands and the ability to see around corners.

      We highly recommend a quality catch can kit to combat that www.z1offroad.com/engine-parts/oil-catch-can-c-6_14_83521.html

    What the heck is with truck manufacturers putting the oil filter up in that inaccessible spot that's terrible! But nice job

    How can I fully remove the black panel around the inspection cover? Would make it easier to access the oil filter and less mess to clean up afterward

      If you don't have a lift, it's going to be an absolute bitch trying to reach that oil filter through that tiny hole while laying on your back.

    I’m about to get a new frontier, lol so I have to remove a skid plate to change the oil filter? Lol that’s gonna be a pain

    Excellent video! How many miles would you recommend for the first oil change of a Frontier Pro-4X? I hear some say that a vehicle's first oil change should be at about 1,000 miles and then every 5,000 or 7.500 miles depending on driving conditions. Is this true?

      Correct, if you live in a very dusty area, or like spring time around here we get a ton of pollen, changing engine oil at a higher frequency is a must. Lower quality of oil and the way you drive will also shorten that interval.

    My dealer told me that 15208-9e01a oil filter replaced the one you have on video. Why’s that? They don’t even carry the one you have on video anymore.

    I swear, engineers purposely place oil filters in the most inconvenient places. 😠

    What is silly design! Filter behind the skid plate and you have to rig up some kind of oil catch device...

    Why not just remove the steel skid plate to have more room replacing the filter

      On theD41 Pro4X it is mounted behind the plastic part of the front bumper. Unfortunately, it is difficult to get to without damaging or modifying the front bumper.

    I purchased my 22 Frontier used and it doesn't have the large outer cover that is removed first in the video. Do all 2022s have that?

    • @z1off-road
      @z1off-road  6 дней назад +1

      The silver skid plate would only come on the Pro4X trims. Depending on what trim level you have, you might have a plastic cover.

    After 35 years of oil changes, I don't recall prefilling the new filter. Is that specific to the Nissan Frontier?

    • @richardfalcone6954
      @richardfalcone6954 6 месяцев назад +1

      I've never done it either, including on my 2015 Frontier. It makes sense to do it, I guess, but it would be messy as hell.
