2024 Frontier Pro-4x here. Love this truck. Heavy steering? No telescoping wheel? Grow a pair. It's a truck. Wouldn't even consider a new Toyota. Frontier is a keeper.
Test drove a new tacoma it felt so odd that it came with electric steering, so light and doesnt have good road feel, glad this one still offers hydraulic steering that feels heavy, but good road feel
The Frontier is horrible off-road, that is the main problem with the truck. Even with a rear locker, the wheel braking to assist in difficult situation is horrible. And this is a fact, if you search online -- you will find this is the work midsize truck off-road out of all the major brand trucks available.
@@glow4417 Have you ever driven one off road? Because I’ve had a couple and shown up 80 and 200 series land cruisers. Most people I wheel with are constantly surprised how well they do so maybe you’re just reading something from people on the internet that don’t actually know what they’re talking about.
I was speaking to my tech at Nissan. He said he’d recommend the new Frontier to family and friends. Says it’s been extremely reliable…no consistent issues cropping up so far. My 2022 has 21K miles. Zero issues. It’s been a great truck so far.
@@Falinzin Me too. I bought my 2022 Pro X when they first came out and now have close to 30,000 trouble free miles and zero issues. I also like Toyota trucks but my last two vehicles have been Frontiers based on what you get for the price.
I currently own a 2022 Tacoma. I had a 2022 Frontier as a Co vehicle, as well as older Frontiers over the years. Head to Head the Frontier is a great truck that doesn't get enough credit. Even though I'm a Toyota guy, the Frontier redesign is a great truck. Their previous Frontier models were great trucks. You're right, a truck is a truck. Nice rig by the way.
Just bought a 2024 Pro-4X. Bluestone Pearl. I understand the steering concern, but not a focus. All in all, mine will never be an off-road grinder. Totally a boat hauling machine [4K I/O boat] with the looks and accessories that fill my demands. The Fender sound is a must have! All in all, cruise and shift pattern is not anything that grabs me. Yet. at 1,500 miles... I'm still feelings things out, but totally in love! Great video! Thanks!
I love that color. I also like the Fender audio. For the money, sure you could buy speakers and replace everything, but I'm not in high school anymore and just wanted it already in the truck and it's good enough for me. Congrats on the trucks guys!
No kidding, Im actually old enough to remember when people used to prefer a little more weight to their steering. They called it a "Euopean steering feel" because American cars were known for having very light steering with no communication. And after my negative experience with the electric steering assist on my wifes Chevy Malibu I prefer a conventional power steering pump anyway
@@edjackson4389 In my father's generation, almost all pickups had no power steering, crank windows, and no automatic transmission. Thst was normal. What a soft generation of snowflakes there are now. They're worried about having the perfect touch screen or just the right texture of plastic door panels. And ironically, they ALL "need" 4wd, but most never use it.
@@jeanclaude7018 I laugh everytime I see some reviewer pecking around and rubbing on the plastic interior of a new model truck talking about the "quality" of the plastics. Are they gonna drive the damn thing or make love to it
I bought a 2024 about a month ago. My complaint is always having to remember to push the auto stop-start button every time I fire it up. That feature should be defaulted to OFF and only turned on if the driver wants it. Also I'm 6'3 and my knees are hella close to the dash with the seat all the way back. Other than that, no complaints! This truck is awesome
Yeah, I also turn off the auto start/stop every time I get in. Unfortunately, that's not a Nissan thing and more a governmental regulation thing. Seems all vehicles in the next 10 years or so will have that feature and it won't be able to be disabled, :(.
@@3RAN7ON Agreed. I turn mine off every time. They say that the starter’s more robust and the battery is bigger and that is supposed to offset it but I still feel like you’re gonna be replacing a starter every 50 to 60,000 miles.
To easily defeat the auto stop start, cut a sliver of thin plastic and slide into to area between the button and it's surround. It holds the button in. I cut a black plastic push on clip around it head used that and it's almost invisible in place.
2023 pro4x owner here..i love mine…yes the steering is heavy at first (coming from a sedan) but after a few days of driving it, I actually really enjoy the steering…yes, turning radius isnt great but oh well, the 360 camera helps with 3 point turning etc…i love it!
@@nvpoolshooter I have one of each sitting in my driveway right now and swap between them a couple times a week and they seem pretty similar to me. 🤷♂
The drone shots are worth the like alone. Beautiful video. Steering is nothing. I often miss my old Mazda b2200 that had no assist steering. After a month I didn't even notice it.
I'm glad I found this channel. I just started my search for a quality truck to tow my car and go camping with. Love what you did to the truck and cant wait to see what more you do with it!
Heavy steering... I'm a very petite 5 foot woman and I have driven these and its so easy... and I hear guys complain its "heavy" lol... The Frontier is easy to drive and drives great. I do hate small beds though... 6ft bare minimum for me, but I don't care to do crazy off-road stuff where it matters.
I love how these comments are primarily all positive comments and not hate towards other brands. i can not tell you how many times I have seen a Toyota channel or something about how "supreme Toyotas, especially Tacomas are to all other vehicles. I love Toyotas and not every Toyota person is that way, but more than any other brand I've seen Toyota to be the most toxic and hateful to anyone else such as showing all the faults and issues of cars From Subaru on road hatchbacks to Big beefy Jeeps and all the others. Love this video, and all the people in the comments.
Good point! I generally try not to bash other brands as I think Toyota makes great vehicles, but I have noticed that the majority of the comments have been positive. Glad the community is pretty nice.
Hey Man I hope you are enjoying your 23’ Frontier! I’m an engineer at the Mfg plan in Canton MS where we assemble it! A lot of the features that are missing that you mention (the quality of life ones like telo wheel and LWB Pro-4X) you mention are coming for 25’ great review also the info is valuable for us!
Hey, great to know! These are such great trucks and I've had several Nissan trucks now and they're really underestimated by many, so just trying to spread the word that they're actually great trucks and that these "issues" are essentially non-issues, in my opinion, for all the value you get with a Frontier for the money. Thanks for all you do!
Owner of a loaded 22 Pro-4x. Absolutely no regrets with this truck. As an interior nerd I have to say this is one of the best places you could sit for a long drive. The amazing seats, the layout, the excellent NVH and decent sound system. All make for a great road trip companion.
@@TheGeneral1861 Yes. It's not the best sound system I've ever heard but it's completely adequate. And I'm saying that as someone who enjoys music and good stereo.
@@Journey_of_Abundancethank you for the reply. The closest local dealer doesn't have a frontier with the fender sound system. I'm looking at them, currently in a 22 ltz Z71 Silverado with the Bose system.
@@TheGeneral1861 I've not heard the standard stereo, but I'm sure it would be worth holding out for one with the Fender if good stereo is important to you.
I just bought a used 2023 Pro-4x 3 weeks ago. I took it out on the K-Trail in Oklahoma and the only issue I had is clearance. I see a lift in the future. Since I bought this strictly for trailing and camping, it's the right size for me. There are a couple of hills that I have to go up getting to our place in OK that every vehicle I have shoots up to 4000+ rpm if I have the cruise on so that's not a big deal. Since I have to drive 4 hours or more to get to any good trails I wanted something that felt as good on road as it does off, and gets good gas mileage. I am getting about the same mpg as I do in my modified Forester. I did consider an SV king cab but the price for a used base SV was only 2K less than the fully loaded Pro-4x I purchased.
I felt fancy springing for the Pro-4x until I looked at the difference in prices too. Seemed like a good deal for all the extra features of the Pro-4X plus then I didn't have to add or modify anything as it had everything I wanted.
I was speaking to my tech at Nissan. He said he’d recommend the new Frontier to family and friends. Says it’s been extremely reliable…no consistent issues cropping up so far. My 2022 has 21K miles. Zero issues. It’s been a great truck so far. BTW - I LOVE the heavy steering. Makes the truck feel super solid and screwed down to the road.
I've had my 22 S model for a yr and a half, and have been very happy with it. Does everything I need it to do. Most of the complaints you mention are just folks jumping on the bandwagon when they see other people complain. I couldn't care less about "heavy" steering, turning radius, lack of telescopic steering wheel, etc. The rear diff will need to be addressed at some point, but like you, I don't see it as a major concern.
I have over 14,000 miles on my 2023 Pro4X with no issues or complaints. It’s a great off road vehicle, and handles just fine on the highway. The ProX4 brings a smile to my face every time I have the opportunity to drive it.
Bought a a '24 SV because I wanted a king cab. A 6' bed is more valuable to me than a little backseat I would never use. Having said that, I wish the SV had a rear locker and LED headlights. I used to own a 3rd gen Taco, and getting used to the Frontier turning radius is hard. Love your vids.
If you’re having trouble parking this truck in a parking spot, there’s a good chance it’s lack of driver skill. I’d also imagine you would have the same trouble parking every truck
Awesome review The important thing about any steering configuration is THAT it steers. I have the Frontier S 4x4 & I LOVE IT. My advise for some would be, to get what you like and works for you - Me? I want light trails get through the snow functionality over gadgets, electronics and cup holders what I have is exactly what I want a mid-size 4x4 with a V-6. I love Toyota I own 2 a Sienna and Camry. I looked for a Tacoma 4x4 with a 6 cyl which are now unicorns for all intents and purposes. My only other choice would be a Ram which is just too much vehicle for my purposes. It all boils down to preferences and everyone has their very own -
Hey, I’m sitting in Zambia right now watching your video. On my 2023 Pro 4x my issues are the drivers seat reclining back after turning the truck off, the radio randomly turning on and one of the USB-C stopped working. All these will be sorted out at the dealer when I return. I’ve had my truck since February and have put 17k miles on it. One trip I drove from Nashville TN to Santa Fe NM and back in 2 days. This is the most comfortable vehicle I’ve ever owned. I had zero aches and pains after driving all day. Zero problems with the truck and I averaged 21 mpg. I guess the only issue that I can’t fix is you really can’t do a proper U-turn because it doesn’t turn sharp enough. Love the truck and would buy again.
I realized it was actually my leg hitting the recline button when I would get out of the truck. The longer it took me to get out of the truck, the lower the seat would go 🤣 I am not sure if that is the case for everyone, but that is what happened to me.
@@BroncoManiac777 That's what I've heard is that somehow people are hitting the power buttons on the side of the seat and that's moving it. I've never had it happen in mine.
I have a 22 P4X, 85K miles, no issues. Love the steering. It isn’t heavy, it’s feedback. Plus it only feels heavy at slow speed on pavement. Parking, you do gotta plan ahead, cut a little wide. The update for the CC is awesome. Love my cruise now. Works like it should have from the beginning. The complaint I hear is camera resolution. Back up cam is fine, I don’t need it to be 4K. The front cam, would be nice if it were clearer. Fine for parking, but on the trails, sharper would be nice. But steep climbs where all you see is sky out the windshield, the cam does its job.
All great points. I've tried to use the front camera off road and the resolution is so bad that it's tough to tell a rock from a puddle, haha. Also don't need 4K but just a little better would be nice.
Have you had any problems with the new 3.8L and 9speed trans? I want a frontier and the newest year I can get that still has the 4.0L 5spd trans is a 2019. It changed in 2020+. Is the new 3.8L worth it is what I'm saying. and at 85kmiles, seems like youre doing ok
Absolutely agree with your assessment on all. None of these are actual problems. I absolutely love my pro 4X and I think nitpicking and comparing to the new turbo 4S with all the new crap there's going to be a lot of interest in the pro 4X in the Nissan and I think people are going to have great luck with it
I really like this truck. I'm an old Toyota guy myself but Nissan is really beginning to shine. And that's an excellent idea about getting the SV & upgrading the rear diff for a lot less money. Thank you for that. Edit:typo
I like that idea, But wonder if that void's the warranty? My 23' sv 4x4 plain jane get's around alright, but ass end slides around a bit. Think this winter i'm gonna throw some sandbags in the back and see if that helps. But would love to get a locker !
@@timberlineconstruction1181 yeah, it is tight into the driveline so there are some concerns there. You could always run it for the first few years without and then upgrade it later once you’re out of warranty anyways. You might find out you don’t really use as much as you thought or that, it’s not necessary.
I have a 2023 Pro4x. I installed the OEM Titan # 2016951 aluminum diff cover I think it is from a 2015, made by Spicer, on Ebay for around 110.00 shipped came with the bolts and fill plug. I also used the Lube Locker gasket # LLR-N44D. I have zero leaks and the cover looks really good. You will have to fab a bracket for the brake cable, but that was easy, I went to Home Depot in the lumber deck section got a galvanized small L bracket for 2.00 and trimmed it down and drilled 2 holes, worked great.
Thanks! I love cardinal red. I really wanted one of the couple of red options but could only find Gray when I bought my truck. It’s growing on me, but the red is really sharp.
@@AllThingsOverlanding Honestly, your gray was my 2nd choice. The only thing that I would change on our model is the cargo lamp switch. I am so use to pushing the top of a toggle to turn things on. On our Nissan's you push the bottom to turn the cargo lamps on. An indicator light would also have been nice. If I can get the switch out in the future, I might add an LED lamp right near it myself. Other than that, I love every bit of my truck.
I have a 2023 Pro4X and the transmission shifting was wonky and the cruise control was almost unusable. I took it to the dealer and told them about the tech bulletin. They were not aware of it but looked it up and after a couple of hours I got my truck back and it was a completely different truck. The cruise control works perfectly and the shifting is overall more consistent.
@GSPDUCKDOG: Prior to the tech bulletin, was your transmission wonky, specifically at lower speeds? Mine seems to act up and can be fairly harsh shifting between 20 and 35mph. Zero issues highway driving, very smooth. Did the bulletin correct the problem?
Yes mine shifted harsh a in the 15-25 MPH range and occasionally at other speeds in addition the the cruise control shifting being a complete nightmare. The tech bulletin procedure fixed it all.
I've never noticed the steering feeling overwhelming. Parking it feels just as easy as any similar sized vehicle. Plus the 360° camera makes it even easier.
My transmission got worse after the update. And it was perfect before. I did the update because of the cruise control. Worst part it didn't change it. Still shift down like a mad man.
Thanks! I do wonder if these people are just buying these trucks sight unseen and then hopping in and saying "Wait a minute...this drives like a truck?!" :D
Great video, I think ppl just complain about small things. At the end of the day if it works don’t try to fix it. There is no perfect vehicle we’ll not for the same price as this frontier.
The limited turning radius is to keep you from flipping. It’s not corvette kids also old hydraulic steering is great so everyone back to the gym that’s complaining or go drive an old 90’s hardbody with no power steering then you won’t complain.
In Canada for 2022 and 2023 they made a PRO4X King Cab version with a 6ft bed. It is the same overall length as the Crew Cab + 5ft bed. The only sacrifice is the space in the back of the cab is smaller, but there is no offroad sacrifice as it has all the same approach and departure angles. I have this version and I love it. It's great for hauling lots of gear and plenty of room for my wife and I to sleep in the bed. The most common major issues I read about this truck is the e-locker switch goes faulty and grenades the rear diff and it's cheaper for Nissan to replace the entire rear end. This will be very pricy once warranties are up. Another one is the screen on the head unit delaminating and that will also be several thousand dollars once out of warranty (they replace the entire head unit) ... dash and cowl warping and paint peeling are a few other common issues.
I have a 2022 Pro-4X and I love it. I have 32K miles on it now, many of them driving from Phoenix, AZ to Homer, AK. And then from Homer, AK through Canada to Montana in January. I had a full U-Haul trailer the whole time both directions and was in 4 Hi the entire way through Canada in January on the Alcan since it's entirely snow and ice covered almost the entire way with plenty of mountain roads. This was right after the polar vortex when everything was around -20 F. It's been flawless. And those seats are magnificent. Also I'm 6"3' and I've never needed a telescopic steering wheel.
That's an awesome testimonial! Cool to see them do extreme stuff like that. I took mine through the Wyoming BDR last July for 2 straight weeks withonly 2500 miles on the truck and it was awesome throughout that (and those seats were a god send driving 5000 miles in 2 weeks, haha).
24 Ford Ranger 4x4 - 20-24 mpg 24 Colorado 4x4 - 19-23 mpg 24 Tacoma 4x4 - 20-23 mpg 24 Frontier Pro4x - 18-22 mpg I don't think you lost anything but the potential longevity problems of a turbo-4.
I have a 2023 Pro 4X. I got used to the heavy steering pretty quickly. I do find the lack of telescoping steering pretty annoying. I'm 6' and constantly adjusting the seat because I always feel like either my legs are cramped or the wheel is too far away. Gas mileage has been not great in the city. Generally I'm pretty happy with it though. It's a sharp looking truck and I like the shifting of the 9 speed.
Yeah, these trucks have never been great on gas. I'm coming from a 2008 2nd gen Frontier with a Titan swap and 35's to this so my gas mileage before 33's was almost double my old truck and even with a lift, 33's, and lots of gear, I'm still probably getting about 7-8 MPG better than my old truck, so there's a bit of bias there for me.
I have my first Nissan 2024 pro 4x same color as yours boulder gray I put a bed cover on it I love mine so far but I only have 1200 miles so a long ways to go
Just picked up a 2024 Frontier SV after 30 years of owning and driving 3 Ford F-150 over that time. And yes the steering is heavier on the Frontier right off the bat than all my fords. I didn't notice it on the test drive vehicle. But the truck i bought was really noticeable when i took it home. It was a pain the first month, but now meh it's alright. You get used to it and not a deal breaker. Love the truck. Love the smaller size. Peppy V6 , no turbos. That's the main reason I picked the Frontier. Not a fan of turbos on gasoline trucks. Just more stuff to wear out.
100% agree with Fletch about the steering. Heavy steering was what I had on my '69 &' 78 Chevy C-10's and 65 Mustang which all had manual steering. Man up America! Don't be a wuss.
Overall a great little truck and well priced as well. I like the steering, perfect especially on long trips. Transmission shifts nicely, for heavy towing through the rockies as well.
I love these trucks and can’t wait to get mine. My only complaint, mind you it’s coming from a non owner, the infotainment has 1st gen Blackberry sized bezels. The cab could be 6 inches longer for the rear seated people and the cameras are dated looking. None of these are gonna keep me out of one.
Haha, good point. Part of why I like the new Frontier is it's based on the previous gen and they kept what worked and updated the rest (interior, exterior looks, technology) to catch up with the competition while still offering a solid, reliable truck. My only long term concerns are the technological additions and how those sensors will hold up, especially with a decent amount of offroading and potential abuse.
the worst complaint is the small back seat. Really?? don't buy a midsized truck then...right?? Buy a 4 door sedan or a full size truck if rear passenger leg room is important to you. seems stupid to complain about.
It has 4 doors so people expect the backseat to be useful if no they why even have those 2 extra door. It might not be as spacious as a previous gen tundra which is massive but if a backpack is wider than the seat then that’s probably what they are complaining about. Last time I checked one out I was able to fit 2 car seats back there but I am very short so my seats are closer to the front 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah, it's a midsize truck backseat, so despite the 4 doors, it's not got a ton of space. But, I've had 3 people in the backseat and it's tight, but you can definitely do it. I probably wouldn't drive across the country with 5 passengers, but it's possible, haha.
Or maybe manufacturers can simply extend the cabins by 6 to 8 inches. However, they won't do that in order to milk ppl of all their money. The only other option is to buy a full-size pickup, but that costs an extra $15k to 20k. Also, most ppl dont need the power of a half-ton pickup anyways. A midsize truck with about 38" of rear legroom would make a lot of ppl happy.
We bought a 2020 Frontier. In my opinion it was the best bang for the buck. 3.8L engine 9 speed transmission and looks like a Frontier. My only complaint with the new generation is, "they look like a Tacoma."
Haha, yep, the 2020's are a great mix of the two. I love hte new truck's styling and I like that it finally looks upgraded over the 2nd gen, but if I was going to buy a 2nd gen, it would be a 2020 or 2021 for sure. Congrats on your truck!
I have a 2023 as well and my only complaints are the front seats are kinda small for bigger folks, the back up camera has crappy resolution, and the infotainment screen is slow at start-up. The complaints you mentioned, I have no idea what those folks are talking about
I can tell you the front seats have always been an issue for some people. Was that way with the Xterra and previous Frontier. I did notice it on my Xterra, but I did get used to it, so when it came to this Frontier I didn't notice it.
2024 SV crew 4x4 6ft bed no complaints here. Had a 2022 2wd 5ft bed before and the added length and weight on my 24 really make it a smoother more stable ride on road. Off road have not notice any real difference between the two bed lengths. It's fun playing with DHD too, works well.
Well, according to some comments on this, the long bed actually doesn’t add any length behind the rear wheels so it doesn’t change anything Offroad. So, I was wrong about that, haha.
@@AllThingsOverlanding That may be but the wheelbase is still longer so there's a little more chance for high centering. I wish there was a solid option for 4" suspension lift though. I have a 2 1/2". I don't want to Titan swap the front and the RC 6" body lift only helps for bigger tires.
Love my 2022 Pro-X, as you can tell by my pfp. I like the heavy steering and have always been used to it since I owned a 2006 Titan for 8+ years as my first truck. This is my second truck/vehicle, and I never had any issues so far
I recently traded into a 23' SV 4x4 with tech and convenience packages, so far I love this truck. I had a 13' Nissan frontier SV 4x4 lwb, it was a great truck. I've owned 3 full sized trucks in between, a 15' Sierra, a 16' Ram (complete nightmare), and a 20' Tundra. So far this 3rd gen Nissan is probably one of my favorite trucks. Definitely a little bit of an adjustment coming back from full sized trucks, but most of these complaints are just nit-picking. I like that Nissan stuck with an old school N/A engine, it has plenty of power and the 9 speed has been very smooth so far. From highway driving, to mountain roads, to the city it's been a pleasure to drive. The cruise control is definitely a bit of a concern which I'll talk to the dealer about, not a fan of how it just romps it to speed up 5 mph. Otherwise it's a great truck.
Yep, cruise control before the TSB flash sucks. But glad to hear the feedback with all your experience with other trucks. I'm loving mine so far after a few other Nissan trucks. Great upgrades, but they kept it simple and Nissan through and through.
Love my 24 Pro-4x. Getting 22-23 mpg in mixed travel driving. Comfy. Performs well in sand and moderate off road. Only complaint I share with others is the turning radius… just like my 2012. Have a tight turn on my own street… adapt and move on!
I have a 2023 Pro 4x in Glacier white. My first ever brand new vehicle. Bought it in November 2023 and I love the truck. Install an oil catch can, the TSB update for the transmission sorted out the cruise control high shifting.
@Blue-moon12: My transmission seems to act up and can be fairly harsh shifting between 20 and 35mph. Did you have that issue, prior to the TSB update? Wondering if the update would fix my '23. Zero issues highway driving, very smooth.
Congrats on the truck! All Dogs Offroad RC Killa lift and 285/70R17 for the tires. I have 1" spacers which do cause rubbing, but I've heard that without the spacers, you can remove the front mud flaps and be ok. Here's another vid I did on my specific set up and what I had to do to make the 33's fit if it helps: ruclips.net/video/peH9UUQNUS0/видео.html
I'm a toyota guy. I love my 3rd gen tacoma pro. No complaints. But I like to look at different trucks to see what they are about. The pro 4x looks pretty decent. I would definitely take Nissan before any ford, Chevy, or dodge.
Hydraulic steering is the best, to me it’s a plus. If you like to drive and feel the road or off-road path.. you want to feel the road. People complaining about the steering.. really? BTW- really digging the color of your Frontier.
Couple of things...first, I've commented on my truck before, and posted an online review as well so...here goes. While I don't claim the title of "Expert", I will say again that my new 2023 Frontier PRO-4X is the third Frontier I've owned, and it is, by far, the best of the three. Heavy steering wheel? Whomever complained about that has never owned or driven many pickup trucks, especially ones equipped with 4WD. While you aren't going to enter the race at BAJA with this truck, the PRO-4X is designed to appeal to 4x4 shoppers, and excede the expectations of those type of off-road driving enthusiasts. That said, I believe the steering on this model is excellent. You're not going to spin the wheel with one finger like you can on a lot of cars with power steering. Trucks most oftentimes come with "power-assisted" steering, so they drive differently. Turning radius? Same thing. If you're on a narrow roadway, like a dirt road or an off-road trail, a 3-point turn will usually be required. Otherwise, I suggest you stick to driving on the hardtop in cities/towns, in a car or an SUV. As for my experience, my PRO-4X's turning radius is far better than the 2018 Frontier I traded in on it, and I didn't have any major complaints about its steering either. I love this truck, and I truly believe that Toyota, Chevrolet, and Ford better start making better mid-size 4WD trucks for less money, or they are gonna get lapped in the 4x4 customer race. Plus, 310 hp and more torque to boot? NISSAN has a winner with this one. Just sayin'.
My Nissan Titan has tilt wheel, movable seat, and the the pedals are adjustable. Have not found need for telescope steering. Like you said; it’s a truck. I love my truck.
My only complaint is I didn’t buy mine sooner 👌🏻 Also I love the heavy steering. Feels planted and positive. My RAV4 had electronic steering and it was soulless and way too light.
@@AllThingsOverlanding quick question, do you ever notice that when shifting from 2nd to 1st slowing down it is a little clunky like it pushes you forward a little bit? It seems to be just the way that the trasmission works when switching to the lowest gear, I also sometimes can hear a slight clunk though it sounds 100% normal to me, want to make sure I am not losing it lol this is my first truck and only owned small cars otherwise so not quite used to all the sounds and everything
@@trinonx1335 yeah, I think I’ve noticed that a few times. Same as you I’m not all that concerned about it, but I do remember feeling that a few times.
@@AllThingsOverlanding ok cool good to know it is not me, the more research I do I think it is just all the driveline inertia and the torque converter with all the slack coming together at those lower speeds, I also get it when I am between 13-18 mph, it really wants to engine brake and switching between braking and driving is what makes the noise, there is tolerance in the tranmisson, drive shaft, diff, all that so it would make sense
I have a 22 pro4x with almost 41k miles and my only complaint is it doesnt have the passenger side auto window switch. Other than that haven't had a single mechanical issue with it.
Just got a 2023 sv 4x4 for $30k! I am enjoying it so far. More manufactures need to make trucks that just do truck things, we don't need all the fancy stuff. Coming from a Jeep there is a larger turning radios and heavier steering but like you said its not that big of deal. The only issue that I have is like you said the shifting when in cruse control.
Thanks for your insight Love the looks of Frontier and Drive Train. But I purchased a 24 Ridgeline B/E Because Frontier was just missing so much. Living in S Ga. I needed A/C vents in the rear and Front Ventilated seats, Ridgeline has the most interior room for a Mid-size and also has power fold side mirrors, the Driver seat has more settings and, pass seat also is powered I Love the Frontier but for me, it was missing too much
No problem! My wife has a Pilot and we really like it. I probably have slightly opposite needs from what you described. I didn't care as much about the options or tech, but more about ruggedness and offroad worthiness. Plus, I had a Frontier previously and a lot of the modifications will transfer over.
Just bought one as well and the only complaints I have is that it at stock sits lower than a normal SR5 Toyota Tacoma. Also, my transmission seems to search for a gear sometimes. Which makes me feel uneasy
Yeah, they do sit kind of low honestly stock. Pretty easy to fix with a lift, but still annoying when the rest of the brands are making their trucks bigger and bigger and easily able to fit bigger tires. The transmission feels pretty good to me, especially for a nine speed, but I agree that it does shift a lot more than the old five speed.
2022 pro-4x. the cruse control is so annoying great to know they have a fix for that. steering os only heavy at slow speeds and you forget about it after a week or so. who needs a telescoping wheel? So happy I got a 22 no start stop and black accents instead of red on the doors and stitching.
Great review, love your "down to earth" style. Do you know if the Intelligent Cruise Control works under 20 miles per hour, in stop-and-go traffic? It is sometimes called "Traffic-Jam Assist" or " Low-Speed Follow".
Thanks! That's a great question. Never tried to use it that low. If I had to guess, and knowing Nissan, I don't think it has that, but I'm not 100% sure, :(.
Last year I bought a new 2023 Titan Pro4X. I love it. It has a shorter turn than the 2002 F150 Supercab it replaced. The nine speed works fine but it is busier than my wife's Infiniti that has the 7 speed.
@@AllThingsOverlanding My wife's Infiniti is a 2013 EX37 that we bought new and it now only has about 60k miles on it. It came with the 325hp 3.7L V6 and it hauls butt!
I have a 2023 SV midnight black on black n honestly it drives great. I’ve had 3 Toyotas and I sold Toyotas for a couple years and I love them, but the pricing isn’t worth it. Even entry level Tacoma is priced ridiculously high and makes me question if im buying a midsize truck at that price point. I still love the Tacoma I see them driving down the street and they’re sick, but I love my Frontier and the naturally aspirated V6.
Agreed on all points. I think the Toyotas are great looking and solid trucks, but the pricing has gone wild on them. Frontiers are great and very underrated in my opinion.
My favorite thing about when I drove this after driving numerous trucks is that it drives like an old truck. The driving experience on the new Ranger is a manny van compared to this. But that steering is actually quite tough, not even the old 02 Tacoma felt so strong but they rode near the same except with 150 more very active horsepower, which is why I liked the frontier so much. There are times where I want to make a quick maneuver but end up losing the wheel when I try and move quick. If you put all your might and grip into the wheel then you’re less quick and a bit more sloppy.
You are a strong man. Of course the steering is just fine! I am also a strong man and loved my older Hardbody SEV6. My wife needs to be able to park the truck in tight quarters like Costco. We are in our 70s and are waiting for the 2025s to be released. Hydraulic steering is a deal breaker ever if we pay more for the Tacoma trd off road trim. Only if electric steering is available will we consider the Frontier top trim level.
My goodness, how did America survive with that horrible hydro steering for so many decades? My old F150 steered with one finger. My 87 Hardbody with original hydro PS steers easy after nearly 40 years. Why when some complex new gizmo becomes available is it suddenly a "must have?"
The latest refresh you can get the 6ft bed now on the pro4x. Your diff service should be 40-50k miles maybe 30k or sooner if you do a lot of water crossings and don’t have a breather kit on it.
I've heard that! I've done a few water crossings, but did extend the breather. I figure I'll service it in the next 10K miles or so and then replace the cover and use a lubelocker gasket to reseal it with the stronger cover.
I am the owner of a 2001 Toyota tundra SR5 V6 2 Wheel Dr. truck. It is still to this day, my daily driver. I will never sell it, but I am looking to get another truck as well. You cannot go wrong with this Nissan pro 4X.it very well could be the last reliable midsize truck we ever see

2024 Frontier Pro-4x here. Love this truck. Heavy steering? No telescoping wheel? Grow a pair. It's a truck. Wouldn't even consider a new Toyota. Frontier is a keeper.
Yep!
Problem is most trucks now days are just luxury sedans with a bed and a lift. I love the Frontier. The last true truck out there
@@nicksmith8166 Agreed!
Except if you have a pair, you care about off-roading ability and Frontier is horrible off-road -- even with a rear locking diff.
Test drove a new tacoma it felt so odd that it came with electric steering, so light and doesnt have good road feel, glad this one still offers hydraulic steering that feels heavy, but good road feel
I just bought a 2022 frontier pro 4x…my only complaint is that I dont own 2.
👍 love it
The Frontier is horrible off-road, that is the main problem with the truck.
Appreciate it and no hate to Toyotas at all. Both great trucks!
Just picked up a 2025 Pro-4x today - holy crap this is a beautiful truck!
Nice and congrats!
I think it’s a great looking truck. As an owner of a 2013 Xterra PRO-4X my only complaint is that I can’t get a 2024/25 Xterra PRO-4X.
We all want a new Xterra. Totally with you on that!
I saw somewhere that there's a 2025 in the works but who knows.
If Nissan was intelligent at all, it would bring the Xterra back like yesterday...
Thanks!
I bought a 24 Pro4x with Bluestone Pearl as well. I love it.
I love that color. I also like the Fender audio. For the money, sure you could buy speakers and replace everything, but I'm not in high school anymore and just wanted it already in the truck and it's good enough for me. Congrats on the trucks guys!

Steering on these is awesome, compared to some other options I test drove. The people who disagree probably should invest in a gym membership.
😂
Remember, Taco boys now can't even lift their own tailgates now.

Most of the complaints I think come from people driving other vehicles instead of this one. Great breakdown
Agreed.
@@AllThingsOverlanding that's just crazy, it causes way more stress on the starter & battery to literally save only milliliters of fuel

Good feedback! I've heard of the seat thing, but never experienced it. Thanks for sharing!
I realized it was actually my leg hitting the recline button when I would get out of the truck. The longer it took me to get out of the truck, the lower the seat would go 🤣 I am not sure if that is the case for everyone, but that is what happened to me.

My 24 pro x feels solid. Super truck like. V6 kicks 4 banger turbo. I don’t care about mpg
24 Ford Ranger 4x4 - 20-24 mpg
24 Colorado 4x4 - 19-23 mpg
24 Tacoma 4x4 - 20-23 mpg
24 Frontier Pro4x - 18-22 mpg
I don't think you lost anything but the potential longevity problems of a turbo-4.
Good points!
I have my first Nissan 2024 pro 4x same color as yours boulder gray I put a bed cover on it I love mine so far but I only have 1200 miles so a long ways to go
Nice! The color is growing on me and I like it a lot now.
Agree with you and glad you're getting used to the steering.
100% agree with Fletch about the steering. Heavy steering was what I had on my '69 &' 78 Chevy C-10's and 65 Mustang which all had manual steering. Man up America! Don't be a wuss.
SO many complaints and I'm like "What are you talking about?!" :D
Overall a great little truck and well priced as well. I like the steering, perfect especially on long trips. Transmission shifts nicely, for heavy towing through the rockies as well.
Good to hear!
Upside is those 1st gen blackberry’s were indestructible, hoping that’s the case here
Haha, good point.
Love my 2024! That's a beautiful area you're camping in!
They're great trucks and thanks!
the worst complaint is the small back seat. Really?? don't buy a midsized truck then...right??
Very well said!
Thanks!
My steering rack got all noisy around 35000 miles and I got it replaced under warranty. Good video
Good info. Thanks!
Yeah, I could see the seats being a bit small. I'm not a huge guy, but also not super small and I feel like I take up the bulk of the seat.
I like my 23 PRO 4X...
Me too!
Love my 2022 Pro-X, as you can tell by my pfp. I like the heavy steering and have always been used to it since I owned a 2006 Titan for 8+ years as my first truck. This is my second truck/vehicle, and I never had any issues so far
Nice!
For anyone who hates their new frontier ill trade ya my truck for yours lol
Haha
Good presentation. For sure, I'm getting the Frontier Pro4x and fully loaded. 😊
Nice. I'm loving mine. They're really nice trucks.
Love my 24 Pro-4x. Getting 22-23 mpg in mixed travel driving. Comfy. Performs well in sand and moderate off road. Only complaint I share with others is the turning radius… just like my 2012. Have a tight turn on my own street… adapt and move on!
Yep, adapt and move on is right. Kind of surprised how many people buy these trucks and then complain about that. Like, did you test drive it? :D
I have a 2023 Pro 4x in Glacier white. My first ever brand new vehicle. Bought it in November 2023 and I love the truck. Install an oil catch can, the TSB update for the transmission sorted out the cruise control high shifting.
Good tips! Congrats on the truck!
@Blue-moon12: My transmission seems to act up and can be fairly harsh shifting between 20 and 35mph. Did you have that issue, prior to the TSB update? Wondering if the update would fix my '23. Zero issues highway driving, very smooth.
subbed. wife just picked up a leftover "24 Pro 4X yesterday and loves it. what size are Kenda Klever RT's are you running? Stock height? Any rubbing?
Kinda my thoughts as well
Hydraulic steering is the best, to me it’s a plus. If you like to drive and feel the road or off-road path.. you want to feel the road.
People complaining about the steering.. really?
BTW- really digging the color of your Frontier.
Thanks! Yep, they complain all the time, haha.
While you aren't going to enter the race at BAJA with this truck,
the PRO-4X is designed to appeal to 4x4 shoppers, and excede the expectations of those type of off-road driving enthusiasts.
Agreed!
My Nissan Titan has tilt wheel, movable seat, and the the pedals are adjustable. Have not found need for telescope steering. Like you said; it’s a truck. I love my truck.
👍
My only complaint is I didn’t buy mine sooner 👌🏻
Also I love the heavy steering. Feels planted and positive. My RAV4 had electronic steering and it was soulless and way too light.
Nice, :D. Congrats on the truck!
As a guy who love long drives, i love the steering of this truck.
Me too!
I love my 24 p4x, I totally agree, transmission is smooth but sometimes quirky but overall, its powerful, quiet, comfortable and good looking
Agreed!
Good to hear! Yeah, more auto windows would be nice.
I have a 2024 pro x got a great deal on it . The truck has been good I dont have any complaints at all with it
Congrats! Mine's been great so far.
Wow, great pick up!
The lack of telescoping steering wheel and lack of 6 foot bed have been addressed in the 25 model.
I heard that!
I test drove one and the steering was the only reason why I said no. Now I’d buy one over a Tacoma any day. Great paint jobs too
Good value for sure!
Nice! The auto start/stop is the most annoying part to me, but not a huge deal.
Great trucks! What Infiniti? I had a Q50 with the 7 speed and it was a great car.
@@AllThingsOverlanding My wife's Infiniti is a 2013 EX37 that we bought new and it now only has about 60k miles on it. It came with the 325hp 3.7L V6 and it hauls butt!
@@williamwhite9767 I had a 2014 Q50 with the 3.7 and that was a great car!
Good points
You are a strong man. Of course the steering is just fine! I am also a strong man and loved my older Hardbody SEV6. My wife needs to be able to park the truck in tight quarters like Costco. We are in our 70s and are waiting for the 2025s to be released. Hydraulic steering is a deal breaker ever if we pay more for the Tacoma trd off road trim. Only if electric steering is available will we consider the Frontier top trim level.
Makes sense to me. I'm more talking about young people that are simply complaining about it, but somehow bought the truck anyways. :D
My goodness, how did America survive with that horrible hydro steering for so many decades? My old F150 steered with one finger. My 87 Hardbody with original hydro PS steers easy after nearly 40 years. Why when some complex new gizmo becomes available is it suddenly a "must have?"
The diff breather gets clogged causing to much pressure and blows out seals. Get the diff breather mod
Yep, did it the week I brought the truck home. Easy mod.
You cannot go wrong with this Nissan pro 4X.it very well could be the last reliable midsize truck we ever see
Agree with you!
