I honestly was considering buying a Frontier after my last Tacoma saved me from a car wreck, but I just ended up buying another Tacoma hahaha. Still, those Frontiers are looking mighty nice 👀
Nissan hit it out of the park with these given the times. Kept the NA V6, hydraulic steering, no turbos and truck simplicity. These things also feel tanky and tough.
I’ve owned my 2022 Frontier for about a year and a half now and I agree. I love the truck. The old-school tech was a big selling point. The truck feels way better built than my buddies 2020 Tundra. I know that’s sacrilege but it’s true. The Tundra has a thin, hollow feel to it. In comparison, the Frontier feels solid and substantial.
@@thetinysideoftiny7625How is the transmission ? Does it feel like it’s looking for gears ? I test drove a used 2022 with 50k miles and long bed. It felt like the transmission was slipping. Maybe it was just the one I test drove .
transmission and engine are fantastic. Must have been the one you drove because the transmission picks the correct gear and holds it. No constant up and down shifting like the Tacoma’s I drove. Drive train is a gem
Tacoma fruit flavored water drinker here. I got the Taco cause I built em. Non turbo V6. Real gas. If I get a newer truck. Most def. Staying with fossil fuel.
Still driving a 2004 Tacoma TRD Off-Road here. 255,000 miles and still runs good. Good video, if buying a brand new, I would take a hard look and test drive that Frontier. I like that it still has naturally aspirated V6.
I have a 2016 TRD Sport with KDMAX tuning and drive a ‘24 TRD Off Road all week in Detroit. I was expecting the ‘24 to have a lot more low end torque, but it didn’t compared to my tuned Gen 3. I like the new seats and seating position in the ‘24, but would consider the Frontier as well if purchasing a new midsize truck.
As a Toyota tech. I will 100% take the new updated titan and frontier over the Tacoma and tundra. Nissan gets a bad rep because of their passenger cars. Their sports cars and trucks are amazing. You can find 2023 titan Pro4x with 5K miles rn for 45k in Alabama and a few other places I saw similar listing. The frontier is the perfect balance between new tech and old school rugged traditional style trucks. The VQ engine has been around since 2002 in the pathfinder, very refined engine. I will be looking to grab a black Pro4x with leather interior for 35k with under 50k miles soon. Toyota messed up really bad and this is Nissan’s opportunity to pounce, if I was Nissan I would put an updated back up camera in the frontier, add a halo type trim(maybe make the frontier warrior concept they released a few years back. I mean hell bring back the manual trans.
@brandon_buildsDIY funny, because my friend is a master tech at nissan, and he buys ford trucks! Said he'd never buy a Nissan truck. I guess it's because he only sees them when there is something wrong.
Yes, manual option, and a nismo or warrior pack, and make it so cool that it hunts down the Toy trailhunter. This is truly time for Nussan to regain glory like in 1970 when they had the best little truck, the dominating Z, and the great 510.
Absolutely correct on the Titan. I got a 2022 Titan Pro-4x in October with only 4000 miles for 44750. Awesome truck but my mistake was trading my 2022 Frontier S crew RWD. I bought it brand new for $28,000 in 2022 and traded it for around $27,000 with 10,000 miles. The MPG was insane, I was getting close to 30 MPG in that Base Frontier.
well coming from someone that knows has a family member that has a rigged out pro titan, it’s not convenient. He broke a tie rode and had to wait an entire 2 weeeks with his truck in the shop cause no one had the part. Being different isn’t always okay cause of the rarity of parts
2022 Frontier owner here. My 4x4 crew cab has 43,000 trouble free miles on it. I love the traditional v6 power, smooth 9 speed, superior on road drivability as well. Most of all though, it's a traditional truck. Love the truck feel it has. It's everything I want and need in a truck. congratulations on your Frontier.
@@thomaswilder3193 That's about what my wife's Sienna had when the transmission went out the first time, and again at 123,000 miles. Worst vehicle out of 30 that I've owned. You drive what you want..... I'm not a guy to tell how good a Toyota is to.
@@thomaswilder3193Your comment calls your ignorance out clearly. Many folks by now know about the Million Mile Frontier on RUclips. If you're gonna make prejudiced Toi Boi comments, at least make them factual. Frontiers and their predecessors are notoriously dependable. How bout them Taco frames that rusted in half? Amnesia got ya?
@@jeanclaude7018 a bit emotional, eh? I'm not talking about pReDeCeSsOrs. Nissan is nowhere near what they once were. This is well documented. As for the primary point that I made... 43,000 is not impressive for any brand whatsoever. But it's the loudest mfers and their anecdotes coping harder than your dick is while meatriding a brand that doesn't give a fuck about you. As for rusting Tacoma frames, touche lol.
Toyota and Lexus are chasing the computerized hybrid and turbo 4 cylinders bc of newer sr mgmt and it’s a cyclical profit cycle. If Nissan stays with the V6 and just refines - they could be the new Toyota Tacoma for newer buyers who just want reliability and best bang for the buck.
Nissan probably will go to turbo 4 cylinders as well for increasing emissions standards, so I doubt the V6 Frontier will last that long to become the new Tacoma. I wouldn't be surprised if Nissan updated the Frontier next year and stuck the VC turbo engine from the Altima into the Frontier.
I wish Nissan would bring the XTerra back on the Frontier platform I’ve had 2. 2002 base model 2015 Pro 4X These trucks are solid. Would buy a third in a heartbeat. Reliable Who wants space shuttle technology in a truck🤢
Hello from Indonesia. Here in Asia Pacific, we've already got Nissan Terra years ago, which is the SUV version of Frontier / Navara (Asian spec) with 7 speed automatic transmission torque converter. I suspect the USA will get the X-Terra soon, also the Patrol / Armada and next generation Titan
A few years ago I drove a Frontier with a 4.0, I really liked it and thought that that motor felt gutsy. I later bought a 4Runner with a 4.0, and I hate that motor, it feels totally gutless. Amazing how much better the Nissan 4.0 feels.
Agree on all points. Just bought a 2024 Nissan Frontier Pro4X after having 2021 TRD Off Road. Went through all the same thoughts. Only con, same as you, is that I would prefer it sat a little higher and wider with a more aggressive stance and a little beefier suspension but other than that it’s better than my last Tacoma. Nicer interior. Rides nicer. Good power. Amazing sound system. Definitely the best bang for your buck in this segment.
Do your research on a "titan swap" it's the nissan thing lol... front suspension from a nissan titan bolts right up. Gives you about a 4 inch lift and extended travel and wider stance
Thanks for the video. As a former Xterra Pro4x owner myself, and now in a 2022 Frontier Pro4x (and also in Texas), it's great to see others having good experiences with the truck. So far, 20K miles on mine and no issues. Looking forward to getting back out to Big Bend myself.
The places I took my 2001 Xterra and the things it did would sound like I was selling them for Nissan. What finally nuked Xena was me driving in salted road conditions. The entire brake line system rotted out and at 70 years old, I ain't that guy anymore.
Great review! Been a Frontier fan for years even though I’ve never owned one…had several friends in Utah that would run circles around us in theirs. Those things were indestructible and could go anywhere
I have a 2024 Nissan Frontier Pro4x and it looks exactly like yours and I’m in love with it. It’s my first Nissan idk why I never gave them a chance along time ago. The seats are so comfortable, the interior and exterior looks great. The steering wheel doesn’t bother me at all it gives me the feel of a real truck. I’m adding stickers and decals on it to give it a retro vibe. It looks great and I’ve had people come up to me and compliment my Frontier because you hardly see the new models on the road. My already has 7,500 miles on it and I’ve haven’t had any issues with it runs like a gem. (: I’m very satisfied with it and I also choose the Frontier over the 2024 Tacoma.
Frontier's seats really surprised me, I'd always read that they skimped on the interior. I figured that would equate to crappy seats. But after getting my '15 Frontier (super soft seats) and later riding in a Tacoma TRD4, I was shocked that the Tacoma seats feel like doctor's office furniture.
I'm going to be commenting while following along with your video man.. On the, "Everyone and their mom has a Tacoma": I agree with you 100%!! All I see on the road are Tacomas, and yeah they are dope, and yeah I'm a huge Toyota fan, but they're all I see on the road lol. I own a 2006 Tacoma 4x4 TRD Off road, while I love it so much, it's not because its a Taco, but because it was my grandpa's truck when he was still alive. I love the truck and am thankful to have such a reliable truck, but if I never had the Taco, I would've gone with the new frontier 110%. N/A engines vs turbos: I agree with you, but coming from a very basic DIY mechanic guy, I don't want to deal with turbos putting a lot of unnecessary stress on my engine. Reliability of Nissan/Why you chose the Frontier: My wife and I own an 2010 Xterra 4x4 also. I love this truck, it's super reliable, and we haven't had anything break on it yet besides the rear leaf pack breaking but that was because it was out from the east coast lol, so it was pretty rusty. The frontier: Dude my dream would have to be to get the Sand (light brown) color, love that color. The price, yeah it sucks, but the way I see it, if you want something loaded with goodies, the Frontier has a lot going on for the price. I just like the Frontiers, because they're a TRUCK. No fancy bs attached.
I like the look of your Frontier. I have a Gen 1 Tacoma with manual trans. It is super reliable, with 309,00 original miles on the engine. I have driven a Gen 3 Tacoma and the auto transmission was very poor. Not a fan of the newer Tacos.
I like these frontiers too. I got to do production for the Nissan booth at the Texas state fair last year and I got to drive the same frontiers. Not far but still liked it very much. We've also come from a Toyota background. We have had the Tacoma with crawl control and 4x4 4runner.
I'll add that this version of the 2022 Frontier (3rd gen) is pretty much like the 2016 (3rd gen) Tacoma. Nissan has a tried-and-true model going this direction. Nissan can do this because they don't sell as many vehicles as Toyota. Toyota buy high, sell high. Nissan buy mid, sell mid. Essentially a wash.
My very first truck was a 2014 Nissan frontier I had about 131,000 miles on that truck. It had zero problems and I’ve owned it for five years, and I just wanted something a little different so I got a Tacoma, because of the modifications that you could do to It there’s definitely a good amount of modifications that you could do to the frontier which I did. both trucks are my favorite but honestly the Nissan frontier was a really solid truck and people don’t want to believe it sucks for them. 😂
@@foodreview3187 I will say that the rogue, Altimas/small cars that Nissan makes are not good only because of the transmission choice that they made, but the trucks and Xterra on the other hand, have a normal automatic or manual transmission that do not fail like the other Nissan cars do I would only recommend Nissan if they go for the trucks but that’s pretty much it.
I probably won’t get another nessian if I want a truck I’d prolly wait for the Toyota stout or the ford maverick but I heard there a ton of recalls on those
Great choice huge Toyota junkie here I would never ever buy a new rig always had older Toyotas recently bought a tacoma 2007 it’s the newest I will ever own just way to many electronics for me because I enjoy wrenching on my stuff excited for this video 🔥
2:54 similar story. My father is a nissan guy, he had Cedric a luxury nissan sedan in 1980s, he bought Nissan hardbody 1998 or 99 model d22, i grew up on that pickup. Then he bought 2003 altima, which he sold in 2020. Nissan is like my childhood my family a comfort brand/car for me, feels home when i set behind a steering wheel with Nissan logo. And love Nissan making Tacoma like truck
I’m the proud owner of a 2013 Nissan frontier and now a 2023 (same trim level as you) frontier. No complaints and in this market they are more affordable than the competition.
@@richarde1355the Tacoma V6 comes in at 275 HP, while the 2023-24 Frontier comes standard with a 310 HP V6. Better torque and towing capacity. I would say the Nissan is the better option based off price. Toyota does have better longevity as a vehicle due to better manufacturing and parts quality IMHO
Best looking midsize truck hands down Nissan's traction control is really good. They just don't make it an advertising thing. Crawl control not needed when you have a rear Locker.
I love my Yotas, I'm blessed to own a Scion xD and a AWD Venza, but the Frontier just makes sense. Cheap, reliable, dependable, easy to maintain and a NA V6 plus it's on a ladder frame and it's basic. I love my 2019 Frontier Midnight because it's the last year for the 4.0L 5AT and it's soooo simple. I mainy use it for camping and winter weather driving but sometimes I help family and friends move or tow small vehicles. People always hate on Nissan trucks but IMHO it's better that way because it keeps prices down.
I still have my 2005 Frontier Nismo edition. I bought it in Texas and have used it in all scenarios from dry beaches to muddy country roads. Its been solid. I now live in Canada, its gotten me to work on days when the city has shut down due to snow and ice and it hasn't failed once. The 4wd and rear locker has gotten me through many snow and ice storms. With the mountainous terrain the downhill assist has also been solid on rainy and snowy days. I'm driving it till the wheels fall off.
I have a 2023 Pro 4X. Bought it November 2023. Just hit 8000 kms. Since the transmission update it is smooth as anything. Make sure you install an oil catch can.
@user-xh7cy3uj8x Because it's a direct Injection engine, catch can is needed to capture blow by/oil that would get dumped back in the engine. Well worth the money. I have a J&L one.
Glad I’m not the only thinking of going with Nissan. I’m personally thinking of the Nissan Titan. Toyota is losing loyal customers due to dealer markups. Nice Frontier.
switched to Titan from a F150 after 10 years. I love my Titan. its a better truck in almost everyway. only thing the ford has on it is a flat floor in the back seat. thats the only thing i miss on the Ford. if Nissan kept the engine in the Titan and put it in a Frontier looking Titan they would sell out in minutes. Titan is the only truck you can buy with a V8 (400hp) without engine start stop and without cylinder deactivation (I believe) I love it.
Only truck that hit every box for me. V6. More comfortable cab than any other model. Normal shifter and not that stupid knob. Manual parking break. Feels and sounds like a truck. Couldn’t be happier!
Love your truck. Much respect for your opinion. I have a 21 TRD Pro in Lunar Rock and a 2003 TRD Off Road Tacoma. Never any problems, but will admit the Nissan Pro4X is a damn good looking truck. And I will only stick with tried and true NA engines... at least for as long as I can.
I sold my 1997 tacoma on bringatrailer couple months back for $30k! My daily is a new 4Runner. I refuse to drive american made. The low quality isn't worth the risk. Timmy C Arizona
@@Blue-moon12the sad thing is neither has almost any car/ truck company, besides Toyota. Not perfect by any means, but as close to than anyone, exception is old Nissans.
Do you think "hecho en Mexico " Tacoma will be great? Taco was American made until Toyota betrayed us. Frontier is American made but with Japanese values.
I came from Toyota as well (fully built FJ Cruiser) to the new frontier. It is a good truck if you are looking for an answer to the 3rd gen tacoma, but if you want all the latest tech the 4th gen tacoma is superior (at an increased price point). Had my Pro4x for over a year, and it has been solid.
When you mentioned lack of aftermarket support for Frontier. Look up Z1 Offroad (Truck division of Z1 motorsports) in Georgia, they are Nissan/Infiniti performance specialists who work directly with Nissan and NISMO and have an internal engineering division that creates parts for the Frontier/Xterra/Titans, I have the older D40 Frontier (05 -20) and my truck has tons of after market mods from Z1 and NISMO, for suspension I got that from All Dogs Offroad in Nebraska which also has a lot of Nissan support, (A few of the guys in the shop have Frontiers), but I went with them for suspension just because you can get heavier better quality springs both front and leaf, than I found anywhere else for Nissan, plus they carry a wide range ( Bilstein/Koni/Old Man Emu/ Fox/and King) of options for frontier shocks
I had a 16 trd off road that also go a squeak in the rear spring after some off road use. Long story short try this, anything that can touch the spring when it flexes or a bushing, spray a little bit of lubricant in there, I used a little bit of silicone spray if memory serves me correctly, wont be a permanent fix but can help you narrow down which part is causing it
Typically 4 to 10% less few economy. Quite a bit more engineered from oil analysis due to fuel delusion. There’s some good science videos from engineering explain and lake Speed, junior.
My 2011 Frontier SL has 120K miles and not a single issue. Paint looks bad now days but runs like a champ. Had a 96 hard body back in the day and a 92 Toyota. Wife drives a 23 Pathfinder. Great vehicles.
That creaking you hear is either the bushing from the leaf shackle to the spring or the tailgate against the bed. My issue is the tailgate, mind you I have a 2010 P4X
I don't know about the tailgate, My 2010 cheap grand Cherokee. Does that same creaking type of sound when you're going over minor hills. I'm assuming that's the same type of sound he's hearing.
I’ve been driving nothing but Toyota for 38 years. The newest version is way too complicated with so many electronic features to fail. (And many already have) The beauty of the Nissan is its simplicity. I am most likely jumping to Nissan.
I feel like even the 3rd gen Tacoma was too much. That engine and transmission combo was just terrible, and it seemed like it had a lot of issues the first couple years. I remember when it came out in 2016 I was thinking that Toyota had just phoned it in at that point and was coasting on their reputation.
Prior Nissan Xterra Gen 2 owner. 6 speed manual with Off Road package. Side airbags went off when I was driving on a dirt road. Nissan refused to handle the repair. Also had numerous problems with the catalytic converters and CEL issues.
Cool video dude, love the comparison. Especially you being a Toyota guy as well. I will admit I like the new frontiers, they have a few more functional options over my gen Tacoma(2022) but it would go against my Toyota blood
2024 is a good year for Frontier. 3rd year of the redesign and all the bugs 🐜 have been worked out. Wise choice. That 4 cylinder turbo in the Tacoma is a rat 🐀
They actually started putting the new 3.8 and 9 speed in the 2020 my brother bought a brand new one in 20 for that reason he loves it it's got everything he wanted and none of all this new tech crap plus it was the older body style so he got a killer deal on it.
I’ve had my ‘23 Pro4x for a year and a half now and 22k miles on it. Not a single issue and love the drive. My complaints were similar, terrible cameras, wish all windows were auto instead of only the driver, annoyed they there isn’t seat memory presets. Biggest wish is a 6 foot bed option. Minor stuff. I put the Nismo 1.5 inch lift on it and it looks and feels great. Slowly building it into an overlander for some offroad, but we don’t have anything too wild in Minnesota. It’s a tank through the snow up here.
I got a 2023 Tacoma 4x4 because it's bomb proof powertrain. Also, the value retention is literally unmatched. I consider the 2023 Frontier, but my neighbor has a 2022 and has had issues with the transmission. Also, he said the turning radius sucks.
Nice truck bro! I just bought a 2021 Tacoma trd off road and I love it, I still have a 2004 Nissan pathfinder LE with 184k miles. Has served me well on and off road, main problem is a small oil leak from the rear main seal, but being a 20yr old car I say it’s doing well 👍
Shoulda bought a Titan! I did, a 2023 Pro4X. It ain't got stop/start. Love the V8 sound and power! It's a hot rod! The seat is the most comfortable I've ever had and I'm 80. One reason I bought a Titan is that my wife's Infiniti EX37 bought new has had 0 problems in the 10 years and 58k miles she has put on it. It came with the 325hp 3.7 L engine, 7 speed auto and RWD. It's definitely a hot rod.
I loved my 2020 Pro4x Titan very reliable lots of HP to spare but over time it was starting to look dated. I think the down sides were terrible info screen with radio and navigation very large turning radius and of course the thousand dollar question how long the CVT transmission would last.
@@williamwhite9767 My bad I think your right , However I noticed when its cold and I put in drive it wont easily move forward until a few seconds warming up.
Literally sold my 2020 TRD off road Tacoma last night. Already miss it but due to growing family I need more space, looking at a 2019 Tundra TRD off road package in cement. 3rd gen tacomas are the best looking imo. The new gen of frontier is also a good looking truck, reminds me of the Tacoma in a lot of ways
I traded in my 2003 Tundra on a brand new 2022 Frontier. As a Toyota loyalist, Toyota lost me as a customer. Turbo engines are an *immediate* dealbreaker. No space shuttle miles for those engines. Also, the styling of the new Tundra and the new Tacoma is terrible. They’re overwrought, hyper-masculine, cartoonish bro-dozers. They’ve become silly caricatures of themselves. The Frontier has an NA V6, sensible styling, and is fairly priced. It’s quiet, rides well, and the drivetrain is a gem. $39K OTD for a loaded long wheelbase SV.
I used to connect an empty trailer plug and it would trick the computer into keeping the auto start/stop off. 6gang or 4 prong plug at Walmart is cheap.
Stop already with the “we know Toyota has too tear reliability, it’s just not true that Toyota has better reliability than Nissan. I’ve worked at both dealerships and on both manufacturers cars for years. I don’t understand why people keep just saying this without any proof. It’s funny that you don’t hear about all the engines blowing up on Toyota from the slug problems late 97 until 2007, and the engines from 2016 until now. Nissan doesn’t have engine blowing like that. Then there’s the Toyota rusting frames on the 4Runner, Tocoma, and Tundra…etc. why is it that the Toyota reliability issue always get passed over? I have a 2001 Nissan Xterra I’ve owned for 23 years I’ve put 447,453 miles on it. I replaced the starter at 303k all powertrain is OE and power windows all original. It’s lasted better than any Toyota I’ve seen or worked on. So stop it! Toyotas are good but no better than Nissan in reliability.
I am actually having to trade in my 2009 FJ for a pro 4x. Due to the fact the frame and body are rusting away. And I would wash my FJ weekly. So I totally get that Toyotas rust out. Excited to see how this Frontier lasts. I’ve heard they go 200-300k miles.
@OverlandNomad. I had a mystery squeak that seemed to travel in my Xterra. After a long while, it was the hood. No problem since. Just hit over 100k and had that truck all over the world, Germany, Turkey, Guam. I love it. My daughter took it over for college and I am looking at a Frontier. Great video.
I got a really clean 2017 frontier with about 60,000 miles on it as a daily driver. The most I drag around is water heaters, so it has the perfect size. I came from a stubborn big Chevy or nothing mindset, but this 4 bang is faster and more efficient than my old trucks! I come from 90’s lovin displacement over everything life and I’m glad I upgraded my mentality. Almost wasted money on the canyon, but I drift from time to time with a Nissan so why not work with a Nissan? Glad to see you adapt Brodie! You made me feel better about my findings 😂
How hard is it to slap a straight 6 on a box frame, offer 4x4 + manual transmission options under 40k? These American truck companies need to wake tf up. Thank you Nissan for making the effort. Picking up a 2023 Frontier (used) as soon as the price drops a little bit.
I think it’s really cool that you went with the frontier, me being a Toyota owner I appreciate the feedback that you’re going to provide from a previous Toyota owner perspective.
@@steve8803 no, we are not. when biden leaves, support for the climate change hoax will leave with him, along with the bogus companies that he enriched with our tax money.
Nice to see Frontiers getting some love. I've been driving a 2012 Pro4x for 10 years now and before that I had a 2000 desert runner which was my first love. It was a 4x2 but with the 4x4 suspension and a massive gear ratio of 4.6 that would just eat gas like no other. Doing 65 mph on the highway meant you were pushing 4k+ rpm in 5th gear lol
Truck looks awesome dude! Toyota is great, but I'm glad you're bringing some light to the Nissan world. I remember going to the Toyota demos when I worked with them. There were two things they said they would never do, bring a diesel over or go turbocharged.
I agree about the camera quality. I have a 23 SV and the back up camera is very poor, virtually useless at dusk/dark. Also, the computer lies about your mpg. Whatever it says, subtract 3 for the truth. Otherwise seem to be good trucks. Mine has the led headlights, they can be added to other trims besides the pro4x.
90% of people dont know how to offroad or drive down a steep questionable road. No human can send braking power to the wheel that needs it like the computer. I dont care what experience you have
@@steve88032017 TRD Sport 4X4. The transmission in the Taco is less refined that the one in the Frontier. If you check the undercarriage, the frontier is much more robust. The driving position is much better in the Frontier.

The government is pushing this with trucks for emissions and fuel standards. In the future, all trucks will be going to smaller engines with turbos or hybrids.
pretty cool to see a very unbiased review coming from a previous tacoma owner and some one who owns Toyotas. I have had my D41 since they got released like three years ago. Im looking forward to see what direction you go with this!
The new ones are pretty solid too. I bought a 2013 Titan brand new as my daily work truck. 214k miles and it needed nothing. Have the new Pro4x now. A/C and heat worked great, with the original suspension.
Another uneducated generalized opinion. All Frontiers have a strong reputation, minus some early automatics that had a bad radiator that did trans damage if not replaced in time. The Million Mile Frontier on RUclips was a 2007 from the Ghosn era. It can't be the only good one. It's interesting how people will take one Nissan car mistake like a bad CVT and use it to smear the whole Nissan line, yet somehow they develop selective amnesia about all the Tacoma frames that rotted in half due to crap craftsmanship. Obviously blanket bias.
@@jeanclaude7018 RUclips is littered with videos warning against Nissan v8s and titan failures. I hope the frontier got engineered well as I like its design better than a Tacoma. But I disagree, there’s no flame without fire. Nissan is known for its cost cutting, and that translates into headaches for owners of the brand later down the line. Not a Nissan hater, or a Toyota loyalist as I own neither. I’m a Mazda guy, not a company historically associated with solid reliability. But they have been doing things right for about 15 years straight. Point is, I can change how I see something if new evidence shows different. Just haven’t seen much from Nissan in that regard. Their entire product line is blah. The Z is a worse Supra. They ruined the pathfinder name making it a crossover. The titan doesn’t sell. The xterra is dead. You get my point
Nice review. There are several options to bypass the auto start/stop. Easiest is using a jumper wire between two contacts on the back of the auto start/stop switch.
That noise isn't from your leaf springs it may sound like it is but it's coming from your front axle inside the hub. There is a repair that Nissan does that uses Molly lube on the axle shaft and that goes into the front bearings. No need to remove it just put Molly lube on the front and rear of the axle shaft outer portion once you remove the axle retaining nut. This will resolve the noise issue.
Toyota reliability was a thing. They have abandoned their loyal decades long following to try all the high tech, ridiculously priced and over complicated designs now. The verdict isn't out yet. Personally, I'm done with them as a brand and I'm currently in the last Toyota I will own.
The entire design philosophy of the vehicle is more of the California kind of hybrid, small displacement w/turbo and $2000 seats that come with their own suspension kind of "high tech". It's entire essence is like a Bro sponsored by Monster Energy designed it. If it had a turbo diesel it would have been more of a truck instead of a toy. So, it's not the turbo I'm talking about now is it. Batteries on a truck, give me a break. The new Frontier is more in line with what Toyota should have been thinking as that would have been the traditional Toyota way. Stop being an angry fan boy just because I don't like what they're doing to a brand I have trusted for years. It's like watching your cousin go off to college and then come back with pink hair, talking about "seizing the means of production".
💯 Toyota reliability is overrated ever since the tsunami. My last 2 cars were toyotas. 2014 camry had a bad torque converter from factory toyota would not honor warranty on it. Then my 2015 avalon blew a headgasket at 75k miles. These next gen 4runners and tscomas are going to be nothing but money pits. Id rather own a ford and thats saying something.
@@MrKyleBart Most of them are in their early 30s too, just repeating something they heard better men say years ago. Every manufacturer now has parts made by out of company suppliers from 40 countries. As far as I'm concerned they're all pretty on par with each other reliability wise. The only thing to worry about is the engineering behind it (ex: never buy a CVT) and customer service over all of that. People should just buy what they want because it hardly even matters anymore.
I can relate to this 100%, lifetime Toyota owner, currently have a 2011 Sequoia that is still running strong at 250k miles. Looks like I'll be adding a Frontier to the mix.
I would never buy electric or Hybrid garbage. I would never buy a Nissan either! Just not a fan. Don’t like the Tacoma trucks either. I want a 4Runner gas powered of course but they are all over priced new never buy new you lose money as soon as you drive off lot
I'm curious of how tall you are. I didn't get a tacoma because I didn't fit in it. 6'4" my knees were half way up the steering wheel and I couldn't get a good adjustment. I didn't get a frontier because the beds are too small for me.

I bought a Nissan as well---a Titan!
I honestly was considering buying a Frontier after my last Tacoma saved me from a car wreck, but I just ended up buying another Tacoma hahaha. Still, those Frontiers are looking mighty nice 👀
@@danielg6542 I would have easily bought the Frontier if it had manual. Easily.
WE all make mistakes. You'll come to your senses
Nissan hit it out of the park with these given the times. Kept the NA V6, hydraulic steering, no turbos and truck simplicity. These things also feel tanky and tough.
Wish they kept a manual though.

@@osamabeniladen It’s low end torque though and it’s plenty for a mid-size, light-duty truck!

Looking to get a truck and at 45K new
This is a tough decision between a Tacoma
I was so set on the New Toyota but so afraid of the new tech.

I wish Nissan would bring the XTerra back on the Frontier platform

Interesting! Does it have to be an older or newer titan? @gerritykan3019
You’re on the money brotha! Also a longtime Toyota guy. Keep up the good work!
Congratulations on your Frontier. I have a 2022 4x4 crew cab with 43,000 trouble free miles. It's a fantastic truck. loving every drive.
On the, "Everyone and their mom has a Tacoma":
I agree with you 100%!!
N/A engines vs turbos:
I agree with you, but coming from a very basic DIY mechanic guy, I don't want to deal with turbos putting a lot of unnecessary stress on my engine.
Reliability of Nissan/Why you chose the Frontier:
My wife and I own an 2010 Xterra 4x4 also. I love this truck, it's super reliable, and we haven't had anything break on it yet besides the rear leaf pack breaking but that was because it was out from the east coast lol, so it was pretty rusty.
The frontier:
Dude my dream would have to be to get the Sand (light brown) color, love that color.

Price, ease of financing, and lots of unwanted ones sitting on lots. The end, saved everyone some time
I'll add that this version of the 2022 Frontier (3rd gen) is pretty much like the 2016 (3rd gen) Tacoma.

Cool! But, what is a Tiyota?
I had a 16 trd off road that also go a squeak in the rear spring after some off road use. I feel like even the 3rd gen Tacoma was too much. That engine and transmission combo was just terrible, and it seemed like it had a lot of issues the first couple years. I remember when it came out in 2016 I was thinking that Toyota had just phoned it in at that point and was coasting on their reputation.
The magic words are: "naturally aspirated V6 engine"! So disappointed with Toyota!

Everyone has anecdotes
I am actually having to trade in my 2009 FJ for a pro 4x. Due to the fact the frame and body are rusting away. And I would wash my FJ weekly. So I totally get that Toyotas rust out. Excited to see how this Frontier lasts. I’ve heard they go 200-300k miles.
this person just said he has never had any problems with his Nissan vehicles but somehow Toyota are more reliable, oxymoron
I can’t believe you didn’t go with a Teeyoda.
I felt pain every time he said that
Months in the future and I was looking for THIS comment
Thank you for reviewing. Just wanna know everything about rooftop tent please.
These are going to be a steal in a few years due to Nissan's resale value. Mid 30's for Pro4x I imagine.
Actually true
Actually there are reports that Frontier is now #1 in class for resale.
Start building them. It’s easy like you say.
@@ryanb8736 too busy with ur mom. she says she will buy me the truck i want.
I think it’s really cool that you went with the frontier, me being a Toyota owner I appreciate the feedback that you’re going to provide from a previous Toyota owner perspective.
I'm predicting that the 4 banger turbo trend will reverse with the next generation of trucks.
or a new president who isn't a demented old fool
@RockCh4lk We are headed towards everything being hybrid or EV.
And they did😮 gotta love on them Nissans, they’re loved in the Middle East and in Australia. Let’s see how it holds up👌🏼
If they released an XTerra based on this, it would sell! I know I’d get one in a heartbeat!
Why do some people call it teoyota?
I agree about the camera quality. I have a 23 SV and the back up camera is very poor, virtually useless at dusk/dark. Also, the computer lies about your mpg. Whatever it says, subtract 3 for the truth. Otherwise seem to be good trucks. Mine has the led headlights, they can be added to other trims besides the pro4x.
What's a Teeoyto?
I thought it was Tea yo tah.
Good for you on choosing what you feel is good for you! I still chose my 2024 tacoma TRD sport and I love it , no hate with your choice , goodluck !
Crawl control is for people that can’t drive off road!
Amen brother
90% of people dont know how to offroad or drive down a steep questionable road. No human can send braking power to the wheel that needs it like the computer. I dont care what experience you have
I use crawl control as cruise control while off-roading. Give me foot a break after hours of stepping on brake/throttle.
Xterra Pro-4x guy here and been very happy. Mog is never overly favorable, but it's a good truck and does what i need to do.
I have both, the Frontier is much better, hands down.
@Teporame what year taco do you have?
@@steve88032017 TRD Sport 4X4. The transmission in the Taco is less refined that the one in the Frontier. If you check the undercarriage, the frontier is much more robust. The driving position is much better in the Frontier.
I was in same boat end of last year looking for new midsize truck did a lot home work and I do have a lot experience with trucks and different setup for off road and overland so I ended getting new 23 Tacoma TRD off-road almost loaded in January 24 for great deals I flew to Oregon to pick it up and had a blast driving long way home very happy with last production 3 Gen
Good luck with Nissan I hope you will have better luck then my Nissan in 2003
The government is pushing this with trucks for emissions and fuel standards. In the future, all trucks will be going to smaller engines with turbos or hybrids.
pretty cool to see a very unbiased review coming from a previous tacoma owner and some one who owns Toyotas. I have had my D41 since they got released like three years ago. Im looking forward to see what direction you go with this!
Old Nissan trucks were solid. The ghosn era and later trucks were trash. Most mechanics seem to agree
The new ones are pretty solid too. I bought a 2013 Titan brand new as my daily work truck. 214k miles and it needed nothing. Have the new Pro4x now. A/C and heat worked great, with the original suspension.
@@jeminvez that’s good to know. I’ve seen some mechanic RUclips channel and he said the v8 in those fail due to cat issues
Easiest is using a jumper wire between two contacts on the back of the auto start/stop switch.
the new tacoma is 4 cylinder single turbo.. not twin. the pro4x is comparable to the trd offroad, not the pro.
High tech? Have you lived under a rock they've been doing turbo motors for years
The entire design philosophy of the vehicle is more of the California kind of hybrid, small displacement w/turbo and $2000 seats that come with their own suspension kind of "high tech".
@@Scroll_Lockyota fanboys are also the reason im buying a nissan😂 these guys are worse than jeep ducky guys and thats BAD
Frontier all day long for a real truck guys. You need to yellow out your fog lights.
this generation frontier is actually really impressive and I am really glad to see Nissan learning from the past and going with something that works
TFL just took the 24 caca taco for a stroll and diff went out. All I can say is you picked the best time to swap over.
We fixed that ideal switch, using a toothpick broken at bottom of switch to hold it in it’s been 3 months and not a problem still
I would never buy electric or Hybrid garbage. I would never buy a Nissan either! Just not a fan. Don’t like the Tacoma trucks either. I want a 4Runner gas powered of course but they are all over priced new never buy new you lose money as soon as you drive off lot
Why a 4runner?
So what would you buy nothing?
@@thedude828-ed2nnthat's what I got out of it too.
You sound like an awesome guy to hang with - super positive and upbeat?
My friend your hard earned money your choice...and it looks like your happy owning it...good luck with it
Immediately after I watch the Big bend video I booked that campsite. That drive to Pilas de los Muchachos was freaking awesome for a first timer.
I'm curious of how tall you are. I didn't get a tacoma because I didn't fit in it. 6'4" my knees were half way up the steering wheel and I couldn't get a good adjustment. I didn't get a frontier because the beds are too small for me.
Had a 2012 frontier and wish I never sold it. Happy with my new purchase, but really wish I would have just kept that truck for life.
