If you’re honestly not sure what you want to do with life, take the 3-4 weeks it takes to clear your system. Study for the asvab on RUclips, get a good score and get a good MOS, pick a short contract 2-3 years. If you don’t have college, sign up when you get to your first duty station, Army pays for it. Depending on your MOS basic and AIT will be at least 6 months done and you’ll only have a year or two left. If you like it stay in if you don’t use that degree for a job you’ll like to do as a career

      Congratulations on finishing AIT, I know NIC at Night was a blast. I actually went to fort Leonard Wood for basic with the other 88M and MPs. I’ve got 3 buddies leaving for Hawaii from here, Schoffield and Wheeler. I would say if you have time to get your CDL while you’re there, even if you don’t want to be a driver after, it’s something really clutch to be able to have in your back pocket. Especially if you get all the endorsements(like 4 of them I think) you’ll be golden once you get out. Easily $70k+. Enjoy Hawaii! 🤙

      Good luck.... but as someone who enlisted in Army at an older age myself, you don't have to listen to me and you do you.... but I would advise that if you do want to enlist at your age.... keep the Air Force as an option instead of focusing all on the Army.
      Just the fact that the Air Force guarantees unmarried people will move out of the barracks by E4 (and in some cases E3) vs the Army's E6 (in some cases E5), is a huge example.
      If you are married and/or have kids you won't have to be in the barracks... but keep in mind that in the Army we go to the "field" (the woods) for weeks at a time where you would not be able to have any communication with your dependents. In the Air Force, yeah you can go on a TDY assignment where you'll also be away, but at least you would most likely have some cell data/internet service to communicate with your dependents.
      And on deployments, the Army has the longest deployments, which means you'll be gone for the longest time away from your dependents.
      And even the fact that in the Army, unless you are in a rare job unit, you will have to be at duty earlier for mandatory formations and PT, which means even less time with your dependents. A lot of people in the Air Force would report for duty later because the culture is different where they don't have to be standing out in the cold for a pointless formation and PT.
      I was just at a tradoc site where I had more than one older Army IET trainee vent to me ("complain" but they were right) how they couldn't even go to the restroom without a "battle buddy" while 18 year old Air Force kids were trusted to go to the shoppette (I might be wrong on the spelling) by themselves.
      So I'm not telling you what to do. Again I joined Army at a later age myself (34) but at the same time, I didn't know all this detail about the differences between the branches at the time either. Keep the Air Force as an option. Good luck. Don't be scared to ask any questions you might think of.

    • @victorgibson8587
      @victorgibson8587  2 года назад +1

      Wow! I appreciate this so much! So, being a fueler is not bad at all. It’s a simple job, mostly manual labor. It’s a setup,check,maintain, and dissemble MOS. Where I am is called the NTC, so we go on rotation”to the field” every month in order to train units from around the US for missions and deployments. The points needed to get promoted for this MOS are high, so that may be the one downfall. But wow again thank you so much for this comment. Hope You have a great day!

      Honestly, it was on my bucket list to join the Army. I’ve always had jobs where I worked harder than my peers but got nothing from it, in the Army, hard work gets noticed. There are a few other reasons, but if I could narrow it down to one it would be that at 34 I wanted this to be my last job, seeing as I did not have a “career” yet. And with a family, I know that if anything happens to me they will be okay and my kids schooling would be taken care of. I know if I make it the 20 years in this, I will be set. Hope all goes well at the physical. Practice your duck walk and remember to “hurry up and wait”

You'd rather spend money on a young fit person that does what they are told than an old dude trying to prove he still has it. If you honestly think it's just do some pushups and your all set then you need to do more research. I'm 33 and realize I'm in for a world of hurt, I'm about to get my ass handed to me trying to keep up with the young kids who can bounce back with other young kids screaming at me what to do while judging my performance.
